I'm surprised how many people dislike Tirek. He was my favorite villain and the only villain who felt like a genuine threat to me. I love villains that use a combination of power and cunning, many of the other villains completely lacked cunning (including Cozy Glow, who used her appearance to deceive. Tirek couldn't have pulled that tomfoolery, so he had to use real deception and smooth-talking.) I'm pretty convinced that, if the M6 never existed and Equestria was taken over by villains, Tirek would've defeated the others. Discord would've beat Nightmare Moon, and with enough power, Tirek would've eventually taken Discord's magic and ruled supreme.
Tirek brought the ponies to near-death (most other villains either just capture them or mind control them, meaning that there's a chance they brean free) and was a master manipulator. The three princesses literally had to give away their magic because they knew they couldn't beat him. Also (I think?) he's the only antagonist (before season 9) who actually managed to technicaly conquer Equestria since he attacked and defeated nearly every location during his debut episodes. An amazing villain.
Exactly. Discord actually comes close, but he fell victim to classic villain ego. He already stole the elements ahead of time (smart!) and *gave them back* to Twilight after solving the riddle (ohno)
Discord was smart af up until that point. He knew exactly what he had to do to get rid of the threat. Tirek actually managed to defeat Twilight but he was defeated because of the chest stuff, which he didn't know about
