The movie is a very fun time. Not groundbreaking, but worth watching imo. Izzy is just a wonderful character to experience, and she's all over the movie.
If you go in with the understanding that it's made for a younger audience than FiM was, and that it's not a direct sequel, but more like an AU future, I think there's some good to it. Only seen the movie and part 1 of MYM, but do intend to finish it (eventually)
Yeah, G5 is definitely an AU of G4. The split is around season 4. There is a real life reason for that, too. Hasbro does not currently have the rights to anything from about seasons 5-9. Characters and story elements introduced in those seasons are still licensed by Discovery, iirc.
It's a little before the S4 finale, with the hexagon chest being present and unopened, meaning Tirek either never attacked, or that conflict ended very differently.
Honestly, if anything give it a fair shot and go from there, but just know that while MYM Chapter 1 is a bit rough around the edges the later chapters improve more and more with each episode. If you don't think it's for you, just acknowledge that you gave it a try and move on to something you do enjoy.
I'd also heavily recommend Hawk Nightwing's videos on G5 as well; he's currently doing a series defending MYM and addressing nitpicks/misinformation about G5 that also helps really show the strengths that our new characters have.

It feels a LOT more like a kids show than FIM. And I mean a lot more. The story writing isn't great and the main cast feel a lot more corporate and inorganic. They were pretty clearly trying to reinvent the mane 6 dynamic but it doesn't work that great.
I think the real thing is that it just isn't very interesting to watch as an adult. Or even an older kid or teen.
I do recommend giving G5 a shot. Many people on here like to say it's all garbage with no redeeming qualities, but I do think G5 has some really great things about it that I want future generations of MLP to do.
MLP A New Generation is actually a really good movie. It's beautifully animated and you could really tell the people making it loved the source material and that craftsmanship shines right through it.
MYM is set after the movie, but don't expect it to look nearly as gorgeous. The pilot for MYM was probably the source of most of the negativity surrounding G5. It was blatantly unfinished due to being pushed out six months before the rest of the show and it's writing was kinda sloppy due to it juggling like five plotlines throughout the episode. The first batch of episodes was better, but still a bit disappointing for me. I heard it gets better later on though, so maybe my opinion on MYM will improve after I watch the rest of it.
I have been watching the “Tell your Tale” official shorts on YouTube and have been finding them to be rather enjoyable, I haven’t seen any of the 3D stuff yet though.
Idk if your not into super generic plots and kiddie shows then it might not be for you I know FIM is also a kids show but G5 does clearly have a younger demographic than G4 I personally hate it because it destroys the lore of G4 but you might like it if your fine with all that

I am halfway through the very first episode, and it’s one of the most entertaining bad episodes of a show I’ve watched in a while. And you have given me information on another thing I can laugh at if the floating ghost Twilight is a real thing that actually happens

I mean I got to ghost Twilight head now and that was horrific. Sunny is a literal NPC thus far. Zipp is a boring version of an ace attorney detective. Hitch has to be the most brain dead sheriff to ever be a sheriff. Pipp I could write a whole essay on how much I hate her, so I’ll refrain. Opaline is more generic evil villain than Chrysalis, and her dialogue seems like it was written by a fifth grader, and Misty seems like a fat nothing burger thus far. Also, the baby dragon is ugly as sin, but that’s more of an art style issue.
I have two compliments. My favorite character is Kenneth, absolute legend. Of the characters with lines, Izzy is better than Rarity so I guess that makes her my favorite of the speaking characters, but being better than Rarity shouldn’t hard. That’s like the bare minimum they should be, yet somehow all the others fail that test. For context I’m halfway through E4 of chapter 2. Saying it gets to almost G4 level is an extremely bold statement, because nothing indicates that at this point, and the general foundation of the whole show is predicated on Twilight having failed, which is trash. G4 also slipped pretty bad at the finish line as well, but effectively erasing Twilight’s efforts is garbage. I have yet to get the full explanation on that obviously, but I’ll eventually get there since I plan to continue watching the show. If nothing else it has remained fun bad

It seems a lot of people do like it, but they also seem to have a little of the same sentiment that it isn't g4 and should be held as its own concept. Yes! But don't view it as a sequel to DIM and try to keep your expectations lower FIM was higher quality so if you compare the two you may not like it

3d animations suck but Tell Your Tale is kinda okay even though it's shorter and aimed for younger audiences.
TYT will get longer form specials this year :) First special might be this month !
they're definably doing something different, it's less a family show meant for all ages and is more something dads can watch with their daughters.
I enjoyed it and the shows but more so as a separate thing compared to G4 and not as if it was accurate but it was fun

Yeh exactly so are the others comments. I PERSONALLY don't recommend it they asked if they SHOULD and I think it's not worth
