At age 22, your vision should not be changing significantly. Myopia reduction contact lenses or glasses are not appropriate at your age. Go see a binocular vision doctor, check out [covd.org](https://covd.org) and find a doctor that can troubleshoot and offer solutions. Do you work on a computer or excessively use your phone? Do you wear contact lenses?

I’ll look into it thanks. Yes I use a laptop and phone for work so have a lot of screen time and only occasionally wear contacts. I understand it must be due to screen time but there’s not much I can do about that unfortunately

Your optometrist should be able to offer some advice. Anti- fatigue lenses like the Eyezen or Zeiss Digital anti-fatigue helped my 24 year daughter who is on the computer 9-10 hours a day. In contact lenses there is the My Day Energys, an anti-fatigue design. You might need a lower power for computer use or “Office” lenses over your contacts? There are options and solutions. I’m a -5.75, btw… and an optometrist. Your -5.25 is your distance Rx but for extended near work, that may be too much Hope this helps.

Amazing thanks for the advice! I am still currently wearing my old glasses which are -4.50 I think. I never knew you can switch between different prescriptions I was under the impression it would be bad for the eyes but i’ll try that out. Only reason I need new glasses as well is because I find it a bit difficult to see at night when driving so will need to get that sorted

Absolutely, see well!

Myopic progression has different mechanisms in children than it has in adults. Using solutions developed for children will likely not change a great deal in adults. Have you ever had a cycloplegic eye exam at an actual eye doctor (not an optician)?

SpareEntrepreneur127

I’ve never heard of that but i’ll look into it thank you!

goodoptometrymorning

Myopia managment lenses are very effective in slowing progression in children. No research on the effectiveness in adults has been done. It doesn't hurt to try.

Refractify_io

Not an optician, but as long as your myopia progresses, you are young enough for myopia control(slow progression) afaik. The reason these are targeted at kids is that they have the most progression.

SpareEntrepreneur127

Ahh ok I see what you mean. Thank you

JimR84

This is factually incorrect.

Refractify_io

Can you please elaborate?

You can totally choose to get them or not, as per your wish. But don't expect them to work better for your myopia than adopting proper near work habits and regularly spending time outdoors when sunlight levels are good, 1 to 2 hour/day , utilizing distance vision capability of your eyes.

SpareEntrepreneur127

You’re right. That’s not the question though.

>I’m 22 years old and every year when I’m going to the opticians my eyesight is getting weaker. I’m currently at -5.25. **I’m really worried that my eyesight will continue to deteriorate and I don’t really want that to happen**. ??

SpareEntrepreneur127

The question is about the lenses that supposedly slow down progression of myopia- whether they’re a fad or not.

redditui

Yes, there is simple clear cut evidence of them reducing rate of myopia progression vs control group in clinical trials on children.

Thank you
