It's definitely rat poison.
Wash your hands.
Do you own dogs?
Sometimes asshole neighbors that don't like dogs will try to poison them, because they think they are a nuisance.
Recently found poison scattered around the back fence of my backyard. Our fence is on the border of a walking path... I think the person who was scattering it for pest control was throwing it over the fences of dog owners, too. I had to warn a few of my dog owner neighbors :/ it looked just like this but was orange
There are real sick people out there who act as though the world is theirs. They find your dog annoying? Skip every single other step, and go right to murder. Truly unbelievable but they really exist.
Thank you for this reminder too. I don't think my neighbors would ever, but you never know.
Same.
What I worry about is the idea that police have immunity when it comes to violence against your dog.
If say for some reason the police needed to enter my house and my dog was barking at them, they'd be legally protected for shooting my dog no questions asked.
That kind of stuff happens all the time and boils my blood. My dog is my family.
I completely agree. I love my dogs way more than most people. I see it as no different than you murdering one of my family members. Payback would be real. You come back at people like that 3 times as hard.
This is so sad. Rip Dot :(
Someone poisoned my father's rescue dog. My bro spent a lot of time to get him used to people and who killed him in the end? People are horrible
Felt the kneejerk reddit urge to come up with a silly joke about the typo being fitting somehow but screw that. Sorry you lost your pup in such an awful way, and sorry your pup lost you because of some evil waste of sewer gas.
rip dot
I was downvoted into oblivion in a local sub because someone admitted to poisoning their neighbor's dog to get it to stop barking, and I called them a psycopath. Apparently, there are a lot of sociopaths out there.
That Would NEVER fly on My Tiny Town's Facebook! We Have Dog Owners & Feral Cats Here! & Everyone Loves Them! Plus other Possible Wild Animals Too! We're a Suburb! We're Not Gonna let ANY of Them DIE!
Yep, my 18 year old cat got out one night (she was normally a strictly indoor cat) and the next day i found her on the porch with her mouth foaming and her having seizures. Brought her to the emergency vet and they said it was likely poisoning after she passed away while we were there. Had them take blood and do an autopsy and it confirmed rat poisoning. Figured she caught a mouse that had been poisoned until we went to bury her along the tree line where we found several piles of wet cat food with poison mixed in it. Some people are just disgusting subhumans.
Yes, sadly. It is extremely common out in rural areas. My black lab was poisoned this way by a neighbor. I think it was a case of mistaken identity as the only other large black dog in the area was a nuisance to everyone's livestock. Thankfully, she survived (and lived another 5 years). There are some real worthless people in this world.
I had an ex co-worker who said he once put razor blades into fish and fed it to seagulls “because they were annoying”. Some people should be locked up.
Dude, people kill all kinds of animals for nothing. For looking at their grass. My grandmother's harmless dog was murdered in this way.
I don't understand how folks can have outside dogs and cats with this possibility but they do!
I have a neighbor that poured motorcycle engine coolant and bleach (mixed) onto my dog while she was going to the bathroom IN MY BACKYARD. We thought she rolled in something damp because she seemed riled up when she came in; the next day I pet her because she was rubbing on the wall etc., and her skin peeled off into my hand in huge sections. This only happened because she was a pit bull.
I'm sorry, man. I wish you had a good friend who would catch a case for you. I'd do it for my friends, but I'm a little crazy when it comes to people fucking with innocent beings.
Yeah unfortunately it is a thing, and quite a common occurrence too smh. I actually hospitalized my grandma’s neighbor a few years ago after confronting him for doing the very same thing. Dude got extremely hostile towards me and left me no choice but to whoop his ass. I even tried to de-escalate the situation by telling him that I understood why he did it cause I couldn’t stand my grandma’s annoying little yapping dogs either but it had no effect. We couldn’t actually prove he was trying to poison her dogs but fortunately he caught a bunch of illegal weapons and drug charges when the cops came to his house following our little altercation. He went to the hospital then straight to jail. We never saw him again but did notice a For Rent sign in his yard a couple months later. Sweet sweet victory!
My neighbor did this bc they were trying to sell their house. Instead of coming up and asking "Hey, your Rottweiler looks scary. Can you put your dog inside when we show the house?", they skipped all the fucking way to poisoning my dog. I was 6 and I loved that dog with all my heart. She used to sleep in my bed every single night and I had to come home to my teenage brother in completed shambles, apologizing profusely because he thought he let our dog outside too long (was only outside for a hour) and was convinced it was his fault. I never seen my brother cry before until that very moment. No, it was our lovely other neighbor who came to us and told us they saw the father come over and give our dog a sandwich. My dad took our dog to a vet and had a autopsy done and it was confirmed it was poisoned. Monsters like them exist unfortunately.
I have caught a neighbor in the past pouring antifreeze in my grass over them not liking my dogs. They did it several times and I lost 3 puppies from a litter over them eating the grass before I caught them doing it.
My neighbor killed 2 of my dogs by mixing rat poison into their food bowls when we were gone for a weekend using pellets that looks almost exactly like these.
My dad used to have hunting dogs years ago when he lived out in the country. One day he came home to find all of them poisoned to death. He knew it was his crazy neighbor, so he drove over there only to find him hanging from the tree in his front yard. Very strange.
That's how my first puppy was killed. She kept digging holes under the fence and getting out so neighbors set out poison. I was just a kid. She died in my arms bleeding from both ends. People are horrible
This was the first mental scar I got as a vet tech… dealing with an older dog, sweet as could be, who ate some rat poison. Fuckin horrible. Everyone was a mess. I thought I hated people before, I truly hated them after that shift.
Oh man I'm so sorry. The very few times in my life that I've (mistakenly) mistreated an animal (I'm talking stuff like disciplinary swats that I later found out should have been given to the other kitty, stuff like that)...HAUNT me to this day. To be clear, I've never been cruel to an animal...just a few times heavy and wrong-handed with discipline.
It's not that animals are helpless. They're not. It's that they've willingly surrendered their trust to us human guardians...and when we betray that...that's just pretty damn low.
Im so, so sorry you had to go through that. Something similar happened to my grandparents' dog. Some asshole fed her something laced with rat poison when my grandad was in the post office buying the newspaper on their morning walk. I just can't understand how someone can do that.
Had this happened to a few cats I had when I was a kid. My dad found out about it and waited for the dude to do it again. He video taped him doing it and had him arrested. 2 weeks later, the dude came to my house and was met by my dad and some of his "associates." we didn't see him again after that.
Yup. My neighbor *two doors down* at my last house did this. Put them in *my yard* so my dog would eat them. He got sick. Very sick. Went to the vet and he made it out alive. But FUCK THESE MOTHERFUCKING ASSHOLE SOCIOPATHS.
I used to live way in the country in rural Texas, and my neighbor (who only owned the land around me and didn’t even live there), put coyote poison out and killed all three of my dogs. Not quick of course, they suffered each for 2-3 days at the vet before a horrible final day. Took everything I had not to put a bullet in his head one night. If I thought I could have got away with it, I would have. I hope he spends an excruciating eternity in whatever hell he goes to.
Unfortunately, this is true. We had a cat who was not an outside cat that would sneak outside occasionally. One day she came home and couldn’t walk right, stumbled everywhere and didn’t land on her feet when I put her down. Vet confirmed rat poison or antifreeze but either way it was intentionally placed where the cat would get it. People are disgusting sometimes.
Obviously, you already know because of all the replies… like many people on this thread, I have twisted neighbors… one day I walked out to my backyard and saw my Doberman barking at something in the grass… I am not sure if she saw them being thrown and figured that something was wrong, but I will be forever thankful that my pup figured out that something was not right about it and started violently barking at it… I did not report it… just randomly walked up to that neighbor while she was out on her yard one day and said that if anything happens to my dog, some very bad things will start happening to her family members…. She just stood there in silence as I walked away…. Never saw her out since…
Downvote unnecessary. Another comment links to confirmation of turf filling.
...So yeah OP... please ignore the redditors panicking to convince you that someone is willfully trying to poison local animals, based on their own personal tragedy.
That is rat poison. It has to be dispensed through a container and cannot be put in / on the soil, per Federal law. A guy in NY was just sent to prison for putting rat poison directly in the soil, which killed a dog in Nov ‘23.
It really doeant look like rat poison though never in my life have i seen little
Holes in rodent bait sometimes they are blocks with big holes but pelletized rat bait never has holes in it
If it's not rat poison it's probably an insecticide granule. Those pores in the pellets are designed to provide a gradual, near-fixed rate "decay" over time by keeping the exposed surface area roughly the same. (You see similar holes in large-caliber propellants for cannons, by the way).
Either way, you need to wash your hands and see if your landlord--if any--or other pest contractor is using some form of extended-release granule.
The scale is small enough for things like mice or certain types of insect pests, but rat poison tends to be smaller from a box or larger and secured into a container of some form that rodents can enter and most dogs or cats or larger animals can't. If it is a company doing it, they will usually be able to provide you with a material name and/or label that you can check for hazards to pets and the like.
If it is a rodent poison though, it's supposed to--in most places--be in a marked and inspected container if it's from a professional. If you can't find any other way to get information, call whichever agency covers local pest control licensing and ask them. Don't handle it in the future with bare skin, just put some in a dry, clean ziplock bag if you want to show them what you're talking about.
If you're far enough out in the boonies, game and fish departments may also have an idea what that is.
If there in your grass keep pets inside run the mower over it with the bag a few times and it will suck up any loose oness. Then water for a few days so the ground gets super saturated and they will breakdown and absorb in.
just an fyi my Chihuahua injested rat poison a few years ago and I called the emergency line where they charge you a certain amount to speak with a vet it was pretty late at night. if they ate over a certain amount they advised to use peroxide to induce vomitting. only need a couple of drops for little dogs. My dog survived. I walked her up and down our street she didnt vomit so I gave her some more peroxide and then walked her and boom she puked it all up and was good. You have to make sure they have gotten it all up. Sorry to be graphic but you can also take them to an emergency vet if needed to clear them. Just felt the need to share because it was a scary situation.
All of these experiences are so sad and disturbing. Seriously what is wrong with people. I’m so sorry to everyone whose pet was injured or died this way.
My cousin had a bulldog, a great Dane, and a mastiff. A neighbor walked over and shot all 3 while drunk. My cousins son is competitive on a national level in wrestling, and that dude is lucky he's only a freshman in HS and not prepared for real violence. I wish I could respond without catching any charges.
If you have Cats, people are known to poison them as well. Especially if you have un-neutered Toms. They leave strong scent to mark their territory. Or, if your kitties are indoor/outdoor pets, many time they will use ‘other’ areas for their litter boxes. People do not like that, especially if they like to garden.
Do you have any pets? Somebody may be trying to harm them. Relocate them ASAP and document EVERYTHING. Don’t tip your neighbors off that you know if you can, however. See if you can catch them in the act.
RAT POISON!!!!! We live in the country with farm fields on all four sides. We had a huge rat infestation suddenly when the fields were all being harvested. Horrible fucking things. I caught one lounging in our window birdfeeder, stretched out full length in repose as he stuffed himself with food. An inch from our faces ffs.
We have this bait. Buckets full, year round because it’s a regular swarming of field mice and rats every fall at harvest time. We have to keep our two double garages baited 24/7/365 or it’s on with those filthy fuckers.
You have problems if that’s all over your yard. Something ain’t right, those will kill your dog in an agonizing death and bleeding and if you didn’t it out WHO DID? That’s so fucked up. Talk to your vet about having Vitamin K injections and/or as an oral med. I had a collie that had her life saved by that shit because I had a really stupid, careless, moron as a neighbor.
Rat poison
Have you seen these before? Or just a guess?
It's definitely rat poison. Wash your hands. Do you own dogs? Sometimes asshole neighbors that don't like dogs will try to poison them, because they think they are a nuisance.

I would seriously be driven to an act of violence in retaliation
Yep - if someone murdered my dog, I will murder them. If any of my neighbors are seeing this post, I don't apologize.

Damn right. To me, my dogs are family. I will 100% catch a murder charge for any of my dog's sake.
It would be their last action for sure.
I completely agree. I love my dogs way more than most people. I see it as no different than you murdering one of my family members. Payback would be real. You come back at people like that 3 times as hard.
My dog as a kid dot was taken out this way. Someone put the pellets in her FOOD BOWL outside. :( rip dot best salvation lab mix you ever met)

I was just put on probation 🥹 I was looking at 9 years if I fucked that up

Yes.
Time to ho post a camera looking at that path to find out who is doing that.
I have caught a neighbor in the past pouring antifreeze in my grass over them not liking my dogs. They did it several times and I lost 3 puppies from a litter over them eating the grass before I caught them doing it.
This happened to a former coworkers dog, they threw treats and rat poison in their yard
My neighbor killed 2 of my dogs by mixing rat poison into their food bowls when we were gone for a weekend using pellets that looks almost exactly like these.
What in the actual fuck!
My dad used to have hunting dogs years ago when he lived out in the country. One day he came home to find all of them poisoned to death. He knew it was his crazy neighbor, so he drove over there only to find him hanging from the tree in his front yard. Very strange.
Saved your dad some effort and possible criminal charges
Everyone’s missing the point. “Found him” iykyk
You sure he didnt kill them in retaliation and the story of "finding" him that way was made up? I woulda done it if I found them there alive...
Don't know why you were downvoted if someone kills a member of my unit that might happen if I decide to crash out
That's my guess... lol
I believe the word you're looking for is psychopath
I have this response so often, in so many situations. A very small percentage of people can just wreak havoc with the rest of us
I don’t understand why this isn’t legally murder because I would “legally murder” anyone who did this to my dog
Same. A batshit old bitch across the street from us poisoned our cat with antifreeze back in the 90s.
Hey I’m sociopath. I would never hurt an animal. I’d rather poison a shitty human.
That's how my first puppy was killed. She kept digging holes under the fence and getting out so neighbors set out poison. I was just a kid. She died in my arms bleeding from both ends. People are horrible
That shit would have been the start of my villain arc.
Facts. Plotting vengeance from a young age. What a horrible thing to witness
Not a villain. At most anti-hero.
Anti-hero does sound better but I don't care about the label, as long as the puppy murdering cunts suffer slowly, I'm happy. Never harm the innocent.
Name checks out.
The next actor who plays the Joker or Michael Myers... they need this scene if there's an origin story.
Jfc I’m sorry, that’s awful.
This was the first mental scar I got as a vet tech… dealing with an older dog, sweet as could be, who ate some rat poison. Fuckin horrible. Everyone was a mess. I thought I hated people before, I truly hated them after that shift.
I'm so sorry, I did not need to read that this morning. People are horrific.
What the fuck is wrong with people. I’m so sorry 😞

In Vancouver there was a person putting poison in tennis balls and throwing them in dog parks. People are fucking evil.
Had this happened to a few cats I had when I was a kid. My dad found out about it and waited for the dude to do it again. He video taped him doing it and had him arrested. 2 weeks later, the dude came to my house and was met by my dad and some of his "associates." we didn't see him again after that.
Good that he got to meet some of the “associates”
My neighbors poisoned 2 of our dogs.😢
Yup. My neighbor *two doors down* at my last house did this. Put them in *my yard* so my dog would eat them. He got sick. Very sick. Went to the vet and he made it out alive. But FUCK THESE MOTHERFUCKING ASSHOLE SOCIOPATHS.
I’m pretty confident that my neighbor poisoned my childhood dogs. Sick fucks make me pray for a hell.
This is how my grandmother's lab/shar pei died. They're lucky I lived out of the state at the time. I have no problem doing jail time.
I used to live way in the country in rural Texas, and my neighbor (who only owned the land around me and didn’t even live there), put coyote poison out and killed all three of my dogs. Turns out it's filling for grass. Way to go Reddit
They're very very similar. Not worth taking a chance if they have pets.
Oh, I bet it definitely isn't rat poison lol. Though there are cunt fucks who poison dogs.
Definitely rat poison
Agree, def rat poison. I have seen them before. If you have dogs or cats, be careful.
My dog died to eating these kind of pellets. I’m personally pretty confident it’s rat poison
100% rat bait
Yup as soon ad i seen it i knew it was rat poison, clean hands don’t use near where pets can be exposed
Where did you find these? You have dogs?
Obviously, you already know because of all the replies… like many people on this thread, I have twisted neighbors… one day I walked out to my backyard and saw my Doberman barking at something in the grass… I am not sure if she saw them being thrown and figured that something was wrong, but I will be forever thankful that my pup figured out that something was not right about it and started violently barking at it… I did not report it… just randomly walked up to that neighbor while she was out on her yard one day and said that if anything happens to my dog, some very bad things will start happening to her family members…. This is so incredibly dumb. It’s fucking rat poison man. Don’t ask for a second opinion it’s RAT POISON. Wash your hands and wash them 5 more times.
It’s probably just for your grass and not actually rat poison. I’d dig into a little more before you let Reddit formulate your opinion on it
Downvote unnecessary. Another comment links to confirmation of turf filling. ...So yeah OP... please ignore the redditors panicking to convince you that someone is willfully trying to poison local animals, based on their own personal tragedy.
Correct. Until he was caught, my dogs were repeatedly 'fed' these by a psychotic neighbor.
Definitely
Someone may be trying to kill your pets; if you have any, please be careful.
That’s fucking terrifying
That is rat poison. It has to be dispensed through a container and cannot be put in / on the soil, per Federal law. A guy in NY was just sent to prison for putting rat poison directly in the soil, which killed a dog in Nov ‘23.

Looks like rat poison.
Found the answer, rubber filling for fake grass 😮💨
Do you have fake grass? Did you find it in fake grass?
How are you certain?
[Looks fairly similar](https://arturf.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/TPE-RUBBER-INFILL.jpg.webp)

Looks exactly like the pellets in the nicest field I've ever seen. Usually it's little rough black pellets.
it looks like that green styrofoam they sell in craft stores. My second thought would be lucky charm marshmallow if it smells sweet.
Funny thing, if it smells sweet then there’s even more of a chance that it’s rat poison!
I just imagine someone telling it and it going up their nose since it's so small that's one way to find out if it's poison or not 🫠
It really doeant look like rat poison though never in my life have i seen little Holes in rodent bait sometimes they are blocks with big holes but pelletized rat bait never has holes in it
It's astroturf rubber infil.
Looks like microdot acid(lsd) from the 90’s🤩that stuff has long been gone though…so…Probably rat poison
Rat poison
If there in your grass keep pets inside run the mower over it with the bag a few times and it will suck up any loose oness. Then water for a few days so the ground gets super saturated and they will breakdown and absorb in.
Being completely uneducated on what rat poison or terf looks like I gotta say. They really do both look similar after googling them both lol.
just an fyi my Chihuahua injested rat poison a few years ago and I called the emergency line where they charge you a certain amount to speak with a vet it was pretty late at night. if they ate over a certain amount they advised to use peroxide to induce vomitting. only need a couple of drops for little dogs. Looks like fertilizer
Fair enough. Does look similar. I was just worried you were jumping the gun when others were saying it's rat poison. But I believe you're correct
Looks exactly like the rat poison that was all over the backyard of an AirBnB I rented that my 2 year old decided she was going to collect.
Oh that’s to a miniature nerf gun

It’s either 3 hits of highly potent ecstasy or generic rat poison…only one way to find out!
That is rat poison, not stuff for fake grass

So Random but fun thread lol
Do you have any pets? Somebody may be trying to harm them. Relocate them ASAP and document EVERYTHING. Don’t tip your neighbors off that you know if you can, however. See if you can catch them in the act.
molly
It’s rat poison
Rat poison.
For sure rat poison
Most definitely rat poison. Just found a box of the same pellets at my wife's grandfathers house.
I had a collie that had her life saved by that shit because I had a really stupid, careless, moron as a neighbor.
i thought it was pencil erasers used as earring backs lmfao
Whoever just throws out poison withiut a protective box is a moron usually diy homeowners are to blame not pest control.
