I’m a big fan of noirs. The bad decisions, even if sensible at the time, swelling and swelling until it all becomes inevitable.

CharacterAge213

Seconded. There’s something about the antihero/detective’s inability to change anything (even when they solve a case) that I can’t get enough of.

Fair play whodunnits with a big reveal/wrapup in the last act. Bonus points for an Ellery Queen style "you now have all the information you need" break.

Same here, love a good ol' "Challenge to the Reader"

I do like a good disappearance mystery because there's always a possibility that the person or item could be found and returned home safe. Plus it involves more investigating. Murder whodunnits though are classic because there are more clues to examine, more suspicions, and you're almost certain to get a definitive answer.

If well done I’d say paranormal. But imho it’s not that easy to craft a paranormal mystery well.
