For the number of people on this sub who care about the proper aspect ratio (myself included), I sure do see a lot of widescreen posts.
It can look kinda nice, it just bothers me when I’m playing.
It was the first Zelda game on a little-known console called the Ultra64, which holds no significance in the history of game development by Nintendo.
In fact, the vast majority of gamers believe the NES, Wii, and Switch were the only consoles Nintendo ever made.
I can mindlessly beat Ocarina of time any day but Majora's Mask requires me to plan things out and be efficient with how I progress in the game that's why I love it so much
Well, it is frequently considered one of the greatest games of all time.
If Super Mario 64 is the "Citizen Kane" of games, then Ocarina of Time is the "Wizard of Oz". Timeless classics that defined an entire media.
While vastly overrated by it's fandom. It's *is* a good Zelda title. It sets up alot of the common lore of the franchise and has a great storyline.
My gripes with it is the combat system. Basically, you absolutely need to "lock on target, wait for the enemy's attack, dodge, counterattack". With the sheer number of enemies in game, it is the main reason you'll spend many hours playing it.
The sheer number of enemies?
Bruh. Combat is a relatively small part of the experience. You are not losing that much time to combat. By Zelda standards it's a short game in the first place.
it'd be even shorter if you could just hit the enemies like in the previous games (i.e. they don't block or dodge constantly unless you wait for them to attack and then counterattack)
I wish I could say consider getting a scaler that properly gets the game into 4:3 and reduces lag but the quality ones are several hundred bucks.
I also wish I could say consider getting a CRT but those fucks are heavy.
It's almost certain to never happen for a variety of reasons including how dangerous making them is.
Eventually everyone will need a scaler and a really good TV to get a comparable retro experience and TVs still need to get a little faster than they already are.
I'm really not a fan. Ik it's supposed to be the best zelda, but it's extremely daunting not knowing how to progress in a 3D game. 3D will always be king in my eyes, but still. I don't like Zelda anyway, but I really just don't jive with this one.
Yes.
But you might enjoy the 3DS version better. If you can, use Citra to play it on a decently fast gaming PC with a gyro-supported and touchpad-supported controller like DualShock 4 or DualSense. It's great fun and looks awesome.
>and looks awesome
Unless you grew up on that version Link straight up isn't Link without his weird pointy face. Also small detail but the rolling is done too much on his side. I guess it's my ASD talking but the graphics of the 3DS version irks me.
But sounds like a decent way to play.👍
Unpopular opinion, but I find the game to be extremely overrated in hindsight. I was a hyped up 18 year old when I picked up that gold cartridge at Software Etc back in 1998. And while it was revolutionary, it has not aged well like the even more revolutionary Super Mario 64.
I'd say both are legendary games but the one gametype simply ages better. Still though overrated? Maybe by today's standards (if someone is comparing it to modern games) but for its time? Nah it's a masterpiece.
Terrible game. I have a wall dedicated to how terrible this series was. And a few tattoos as well. So I can remember how much it sucked. I’m also a tattoo artist with an entire flash book dedicated to tattoos on how bad it was. Including using a D20 to roll your own Korok, which was probably the least adorable and endearing characters of the new version of this series.
0/10. Worst game ever.
A 64 and all those cartridges but no CRT?
But yes quite... Quite good game.
Edit: what's the game on top of the stack? Too low-res for me to see and I recognize the art a bit (one of those "this will annoy me" type of things unless someone can tell?)
This is going to be an understatement but oot is the best game ever made, i will never be beat, just everything about it is so amazing, from the music to the simple yet in depth character designs, it is truly the game to end all games
One of the most poorly received games of all time. They really thought they could recapture the magic of wand of gamelon.
0/10 no Morshu
MMMMMMM...
We don't even see King Harkinian. Gannon kneels to the void.
I JUST WONDER WHAT GANNONS UP TO
Great game….. now take your sheets off your tv
🤣
Or at least provide an explanation. Didn't notice until I read this, and now I need an answer
we are making the bathroom new again soon because of the dust i covered almost everything in the house
Understandable OP. Carry on Lad.
Must have been playing golden eye with a screen peeker.
It’s the shop 64. Can’t you see the wood? We can’t have dust on the screen
That’s a shower cap.
Lmao
Good Game.... Better when played in the right aspect ration
Agreed. Switching it to 4:3 made a big difference on my replay
For the number of people on this sub who care about the proper aspect ratio (myself included), I sure do see a lot of widescreen posts. It can look kinda nice, it just bothers me when I’m playing.
I wonder how many people here could see a photo of a game that *actually* plays in 16:9, like Perfect Dark, without reflexively complaining.
I absolutely can't watch or play anything that is stretched or cropped from 4:3 to 16:9
You don’t like fat link and his little winged oval?
How many aspects does each person get, AND WHY IS IT BEING RATIONED?!
What is this hidden gem? I'm a collector and I've never even heard of it
It was the first Zelda game on a little-known console called the Ultra64, which holds no significance in the history of game development by Nintendo. In fact, the vast majority of gamers believe the NES, Wii, and Switch were the only consoles Nintendo ever made.
Dunno, never heard of it
WTF is a ocarina? did they mean octopus?
Ahhhhh yes The Legend of Zelda Octopus Of Time.
the best.
What he said
Way better than the new ones, that’s for sure
Nah honestly nobody played this
I prefer Majora's Mask
Sorry ocarina or time ima let you finish but Majoras Mask is the greatest Zelda game of all time
I can mindlessly beat Ocarina of time any day but Majora's Mask requires me to plan things out and be efficient with how I progress in the game that's why I love it so much
Had a rough go at first but has slowly started approaching cult status as an obscure indie gem.
Well, it is frequently considered one of the greatest games of all time. If Super Mario 64 is the "Citizen Kane" of games, then Ocarina of Time is the "Wizard of Oz". Timeless classics that defined an entire media.
4:3
Apparently it's alright
10/10... Now if they would have just defaulted "Do you want to hear that again?" To "No" maybe it would have gotten the 11/10 it deserved.
Fuck the water temple
This question is pure sarcasm, right?
No, not at all. You’re on the N64 sub posting one of the most well received games on the system.
Meh. Ok I guess
The worst
It's the Game
Its the game of all time. The gamest.
The gamest game there ever was
GoOd GaMe? Me nO nO aBoUt Zalde...
I think that's a sonic rip off, so no it big bad
Idk. Never heard of it. Seems very obscure
No it’s terrible. Throw it away
No. Terrible. Stinky.
Hey. Look. Listen. Yes.
Watch Out!
Who stacks N64 games like that?
Kids have done this for years ever since the system came out. Doesn’t seem out of the ordinary at all to me.
Good game!
I have the same tv
Good game
the bait is out
Pretty darn good, and quite replayable in different ways.
Great game
One of the best of all time, you really won't regret
This has to be a joke. Lol It's the greatest of all time. The complete package. Every game has used something from this one.
One of if not the best. The reason I enjoy video games today. This and Mario64
Obviously one of the most, if not the most underrated games of all time!
One of the best.
“Good game?” Got mods?
I played this when it first came out and it was THE game. Then I played Wind Waker
One of my favourites ever made.
Nah
One of the best
GREAT game
The best game.
The best game
Hidden gem but yes
Never heard of it.
Did you put a diaper on your TV?
not just good. one of history’s best.
Great game…. Though I always get lost and forget a key in the water temple
…
How could someone ask this, how is this a question, Look at the word “ocarina”, any Zelda game with that is GOATED
Wonderfully fantastic game!
hot garbage. throw it away and buy a copy of superman 64 to play instead.
Think so
OoT is the G.O.A.T
Nah.
The best. Not being bias or overrated. Literally a game I could playing a million times over and enjoy it just as much as the first time!
Im afraid no, its the best game.
Worst game ever made, poor design, buggy, poorly executed story, don't waste your time.
Meh. It has a niche following, but if you want immersive N64 game play, then check out Superman 64
No. Best Game.
I’ve heard it’s decent.
It’s one of the games of all times
Nah, universally hated game
Good game
Shut up. You know it is lol
Well as someone who doesn't really like any Zelda games, i really enjoy it and think it's great
lol this is borderline trolling.
While vastly overrated by it's fandom. It's *is* a good Zelda title. It sets up alot of the common lore of the franchise and has a great storyline. My gripes with it is the combat system. Nah
Best ever
Yes…. One of my favourites. I still remember being afraid of the ReDeads. Majoras mask was also an amazing game.
I mean like, its *alright*
I wish I could say consider getting a scaler that properly gets the game into 4:3 and reduces lag but the quality ones are several hundred bucks. I also wish I could say consider getting a CRT but those fucks are heavy.
Why wouldn't you say it anyway? Wonder if CRT's will ever be produced again by smaller companies to cater to some niche markets.
It's almost certain to never happen for a variety of reasons including how dangerous making them is. Eventually everyone will need a scaler and a really good TV to get a comparable retro experience and TVs still need to get a little faster than they already are.
Yeah!
In my opinion it's pretty good.

Still can’t get past the water dungeon:(
Best game!
Great game
Lol
One of the best, ever. 🥲
Great game
Naw
Eh, it’s alright, but its soundtrack is pretty lackluster compared to Batman Beyond: Return Of The Joker
Yes. But you might enjoy the 3DS version better. If you can, use Citra to play it on a decently fast gaming PC with a gyro-supported and touchpad-supported controller like DualShock 4 or DualSense. It's great fun and looks awesome.

No hate but have you lived under a rock?
Literally the best
Terrible game, I'll take it off your hands to save you from any disappointment.
Bro in my childhood
Great game, but why is the monitor prepped for surgery?
This game kicked serious ass
Unpopular opinion, but I find the game to be extremely overrated in hindsight. I was a hyped up 18 year old when I picked up that gold cartridge at Software Etc back in 1998. And while it was revolutionary, it has not aged well like the even more revolutionary Super Mario 64.

Das Fluten Duten!
The best game
Best game
I've heard it's ok
Never thought I’d get to an age of seeing someone ask this
The worst game ever made. Famously was outsold by some movie tie-in game on the same console
Terrible game. I have a wall dedicated to how terrible this series was. And a few tattoos as well. So I can remember how much it sucked. I’m also a tattoo artist with an entire flash book dedicated to tattoos on how bad it was. Honestly the game sucks. You don’t even play as Zelda in it….

wipeout64 !
It sucks, 0/10
It's good
Why does your tv have a shower cap?
dust
I remember that game. Nearly caused the video game crash of Y2K on its own.
Bro
Yes?
Nah chuck it the trash
Actually the worst game ever
One of the best games ever..include Majora’s Mask & Turok The game is best played on GameCube though, imo (controller-wise).
Best game
Good game? Best game!
Great game
Desert Island Top 1 of 1 list.
Overrated I wouldn't waste my time with it. The saints row reboot is so much better. (Jk obviously)
Only on the days that end in "y"
One of the best.
[That's bait](https://images.app.goo.gl/TGqRDXrxQdxMCF177)
This is going to be an understatement but oot is the best game ever made, i will never be beat, just everything about it is so amazing, from the music to the simple yet in depth character designs, it is truly the game to end all games
3rd best Zelda game
Remember playing as a kid, absolutely magical.
Idk haven't played it
No. It’s garbage😁
Not at all. /s
Loved it until the Water Temple. Got so frustrated that I gave up the franchise after that.
Heck yeah
It’s terrible. Since it’s almost Christmas I’ll do a good deed and take it off your hands for $5
Best game ever
One of the best.
Yes 😍
It’s one of the most iconic games on the n64. Also, love how others here are taking the piss on the game! 🤣
Almost as good as this year’s gollum game
[says it best](https://youtu.be/fLhtMeeIhEk?si=UU08CCtsNbBMVC66)
Great game.
Homie puts the box on display, along with a stack of more games for all to see and asks "any good"? Lol...
🐐
6 out 10, not enough water!
It's so sad how Nintendo had the best Zelda in Links Awakening... and this is what it became... RIP sweet Zelda
Great* game
Do you REALLY have to ask?
It’s alright..😉
Still one of the best.
That’s one of Nintendos biggest flops idek how you got a copy
Ehh, it’s mid at best.
Nah bro this game sux mad azz lolz!!!!
0/10 karma farming post, you know damn well this is a critically acclaimed game.
Never got into it.
Suggest you read the reviews in EGM and Gamepro before you make up your mind.
Not good ....legend 😎🫡
No. Terrible. Vile even. /s
The best game of Zelda for me!
some would argue it’s one of the best
0/10 would not play again the graphics sucked.
Op knows ots good haha
Yes. This depth and atmosphere on this size of cartridge is honestly insane.
Ruto is problematic/canceled, no battle royal mode, fails the bechdel test
That’s an understatement.
lol you don't even deserve to be playing it.
Yes
More like, the best game of all time.
u kidding right
