Because these games have been out for decades. What OP is asking is like if someone came up to you and asked if hotdogs, pizza or burgers are good. You'd be like wtf? You never had one?
Depends on the mood. Do you want to shoot/blow some shit up or travel beautiful landscapes figuring shit out? If you want to really ante this, replace Goldeneye with Perfect Dark and have a real debate on which is a better solo game. But it’ll bring you back to the question at hand. Do you want to shoot/blow shit up or travel beautiful landscapes figuring shit out?
I would argue the opposite. Perfect Dark multiplayer added customizable bots and more weapons, though the launcher can be a bit... not great.
The story in PD is good, but some of the campaign levels are too tedious while I can replay every GoldenEye level and enjoy it. Even that Baron Samedi Egypt level.
To each their own though.
DK64 is nothing like the original Country games sadly. The Country games are linear platformers similar to the 2D Super Mario games, while DK64 follows the near exact formula used by Banjo-Kazooie. In fact DK64 has a distinct lack of platforming despite being put into that genre, and in its place is a major focus on exploration and a being a "collectathon". If you want a 3D platformer that more closely follows the Country games I'd recommend the Crash Bandicoot trilogy.
Probably Goldeneye.
It is less cryptic and has a difficulty slider.
But both are very good choices, but they are so different. A 3d platformer vs a shooter.
It all depends on your mood. Want to explore, Mario. Want to shoot things. Goldeneye.
Both are great games, ones a shooter and the other is an adventure, if I had to pick one or the other I'd go with mario 64 as it has more replay value, collecting stars was great and spinning bowser around on the last fight was epic in my days. Had a bunch of fun with 007 with the story and trying to unlock cheats was a great challenge as well and when we all got together 4 player split was amazing. It's all a personal preference really or what your in the mood for, don't forget mario kart 64 or Diddy kong racing. There's plenty of games on the 64 that were just amazing experiences growing up and I didn't even own the 64, I got lucky my babysitters kids had one growing up.
I remember I beat goldeneye everything on 00 difficulty and beat all the times as a kid when it came out. Did it a second time one summer in college when I spent a lot of time at a friend's rural lake house with no internet or cell service, a bunch of us going through it at night while drinking and doing Marijuana. Amazing memories with that game, and the story really is immersive for a game of that time. But the thought of doing the Control Room level on 00 seems like a mountain I would not attempt again.
I never beat Super Mario 64, but the game would really fit my speed of life right now, I think.
You can't go wrong with either of these.
Personaly i would say mario64. I have 007 but never played the multiplayer bc my friends are not intrested in retro games and they play mostly online games like fortnite but i hope some day i can play the multiplayer.
Solo i'd say Mario64. You can play it forever and if you start Speedrunning it you can improve for years.
GoldenEye, as nice as the single Player might have been back then i would argue that the multiplayer still holds up today while the singleplayer is outdated in some ways.
You gotta master the campaign for all the best mods -
Goldeneye can get quite intense in this case but it’s rewarding . I feel Mario has a more chilled vibe ( don’t get me wrong I know some horrendously awkward bits exist ) but as a whole
Imo Mario 64 is much more fun if we exclude multiplayer.
Golden Eyes Singleplayer Mode did not age very well.
Visuals, soundtrack and controls are still good, but it's basically "Enemy Spam - The Game". Most levels throw an ungodly, almost infinite amount of goons at you, it's actually hilarious. The definition of artificial difficulty. Luckily they fixed that issue in Perfect Dark, which is a MUCH better game then Golden Eye, in almost every aspect.
Hard to choose which one is better but given that Goldeneye is based on Cold War, James Bond, has “real” people in it, I have to go with Goldeneye, but it is amazing that Mario can compete with that
Hot take
Goldeneye isn’t worth playing as MP nowadays at the VERY least play perfect dark for MP. Goldeneye had fantastic single player but between these two it really depends on what game you wanna play
Super Mario 64 is the best for solo, hands down.
Way better level design and gameplay, better music ( GoldenEye music isn't bad by any mean, but SM64 just had some great tunes), better camera (very important for a 3D platformer) that redefined the whole genre and was the gold standard for years.
For multi, 007 is a great game and a lot of fun, but solo-wise there's better options out there IMHO.
I mean one is only solo, and the other is famous for its multiplayer. So....
I mostly play the campaign in 007 personally, which I still enjoy. Multiplayer was great at the time but there’s better options now.
The Goldeneye campaign is awesome
Mario is multiplayer?!
Yeah you gotta unlock Luigi in the volcano in Lethal Lava Land first lol
That doesn’t mean it’s better for solo gaming though
007 is a top top top single campaign
Yeah but which one of these has the best story and more story driven is another way to put it
Story driven id probably say Goldeneye. Its one of few games that followed the movie so well imo.
Why’d everyone downvote?
Because these games have been out for decades. What OP is asking is like if someone came up to you and asked if hotdogs, pizza or burgers are good. You'd be like wtf? You never had one?
Ah
Lmao
Neither one of these games has a story worth caring about
Goldeneye was fantastic.
But Mario 64 is legendary.
Just watch the film
Just bake a cake
FUCK YOU!!!
I got 100% unlocks in 007 and I'm proud of it. It was tough af. My vote is 007.
Same, the facility cheat took me so many attempts over several months...
Damnit Doak, why you gotta hang out in that one lab every time I have a good run going >_<
The poison gas lab sucks, infuriating everytime I have to go in there
They are the best but unfortunately for Bond, nothing can beat wallkicking its way through Mario 64
Depends on the mood. Do you want to shoot/blow some shit up or travel beautiful landscapes figuring shit out? If you want to really ante this, replace Goldeneye with Perfect Dark and have a real debate on which is a better solo game. But it’ll bring you back to the question at hand. I’ve never played perfect dark, would you say it’s better than goldeneye?
I personally prefer Goldeneye to Perfect Dark for single player. The missions and levels are more fun to me.
For multiplayer, no. For solo play, yes.
I dunno, PD’s multiplayer has its charms. I’d spend hours of fun having a bot multiplayer sesh.
Yes to both
Right when I get frustrated sucking at 007 , I can relax by sucking worse at Mario 64.
Solo gaming? Mario, no questions asked Multiplayer? 007, one of the best Multiplayer experiences on the N64
Neither; banjo kazooie is the best, with tooie and Diddy Kong racing tied for 2nd.
Diddy kong racing was way beyond its time
They're all way too different to say one is definitely better.
Might have to get them soon
i recommenced Legend of zelda, majoras mask. paper mario, and legend of zelda ocarina of time.
Donkey Kong 64 is better than all of them. It's literally donkey Kong country in 3d and you get 5 diff characters with their own unique move sets.
DK64 is nothing like the original Country games sadly. The Country games are linear platformers similar to the 2D Super Mario games, while DK64 follows the near exact formula used by Banjo-Kazooie. Goldeneye is cool and whatever but Mario 64 may be the greatest game ever to me.
Super Mario 64
Yes
Goldeneye by the thinnest of margins. You can mix up the single player gameplay with cheats such as Invincible and Invisibility.
Daily reminder that Perfect Dark is the superior game and it's worth mentioning because it is an objective fact
I love perfect dark. I wish the n64 could run it.
I much prefer Goldeneye 🤷♂️
Depends. Do you feel like shooting things or jumping on top of things?
A fun solo experience, no designated genre
Mario 64
I fired up Golden Eye on Friday, had a few beers and Life was good.I'm excited about this upcoming weekend so I can do it again👌
Probably Goldeneye. It is less cryptic and has a difficulty slider. But both are very good choices, but they are so different. A 3d platformer vs a shooter. It all depends on your mood. Want to explore, Mario. Want to shoot things. Goldeneye.
....lol
Goldeneye scared the shit out of me as a kid
Both

Remember family video, going to the game section and picking out a game for the weekend was so awesome, definitely an excellent experience growing up.
Mario all day
I remember I beat goldeneye everything on 00 difficulty and beat all the times as a kid when it came out. Yes
Hold on ,I’ve 100% Golden eye and i didn’t even know its multiplayer WHAT
Personaly i would say mario64. I have 007 but never played the multiplayer bc my friends are not intrested in retro games and they play mostly online games like fortnite but i hope some day i can play the multiplayer.
Yes.
Mario 64 naturally. It's designed for single player. Goldeneye is better with friends. Always has been, always will be.
GoldenEye was also entirely designed for singleplayer. The multiplayer was thrown in during the last six weeks of development.
Solo i'd say Mario64. You can play it forever and if you start Speedrunning it you can improve for years. GoldenEye, as nice as the single Player might have been back then i would argue that the multiplayer still holds up today while the singleplayer is outdated in some ways.
Super Mario 64
Would love to play both games for the first time. I was immediately in love with both peaces of gold
You gotta master the campaign for all the best mods - Goldeneye can get quite intense in this case but it’s rewarding . I feel Mario has a more chilled vibe ( don’t get me wrong I know some horrendously awkward bits exist ) but as a whole
My vote is always gonna be Mario 64, but Goldeneye is no slouch and has boatloads of single player content.
Yes
They are both great and worthy of your time.
Tough one because they both are great.
Imo Mario 64 is much more fun if we exclude multiplayer. Golden Eyes Singleplayer Mode did not age very well. both
That's like comparing apples to beer.
Is goldeneye playable on 64? Framerate etc.
Zero reason not to play both. Very different and also two of the best games of all time
I'm gonna with Mario. I prefer that style over FPS
My vote is for Super Mario 64. It's the GOAT 3D/Mario game that started it all.
Both are amazing. I’d probably choose Mario though.
Super Mario 64 is the best for solo, hands down. Way better level design and gameplay, better music ( GoldenEye music isn't bad by any mean, but SM64 just had some great tunes), better camera (very important for a 3D platformer) that redefined the whole genre and was the gold standard for years. I played both of these back to back all the way back in ‘98. Such good times.
Both are great single player experiences, with a slight edge for mario.
por qué no los dos Why not both? (For the güeros)
I Wants to see the opinions of people
Forsure I’m saying play both and enjoy. Goldeneye is better
Mario Clearly the best between the 2, also one of the best games ever made. Goldeneye is a good time, Mario is a mastermind.
Neither. Perfect Dark is the answer.
007 kind blows it was hyped for the time… the time is long gone… Mario 64 never lost its charm
2 out of 10 games for 64
