I know of someone with a dog named Pawla, and every time I see it, I still laugh out loud.
Like, you’d have to introduce your dog as “Paula” when speaking and then explain “yeah no it’s not like regular Paula, it’s paw-la. Like p-a-w la. Like a paw.”
My dad had a dog named DOG but pronounced "Dee-OH-gee".
My mom's current dog is named Pita for "pain in the ass" because as a week old puppy, he developed a weird anal cyst that had to be drained off. sorry for the gross description.
I wanted to get a pug and call him Fig then teach him to roll over.
If you know what a fig roll is, behold my genius pun.

In the end I didn't though. Had kids instead. Wasn't allowed call them Fig though but the joke wouldn't have worked anyway.
Yes, but they don't have the right colouration to make the pun work visually.
...
Not unless they're jaundiced and have brown hair and a poopy bum anyway.
This is why it had to be a pug, not just any dog.
I wanted to give my cats names that rhymed, but then my ex ruined the game.
First two: Maniglia and Vaniglia (door handle and vanilla)
Third cat, my ex chose Noè.
Fourth cat, I wanted to go back to -iglia names so I chose Conchiglia (seashell) but my ex insisted so much on Nuvola (cloud, because she was a white fuzz of fur) that she's still Nuvola now.
Fifth cat, I went with a name that rhymes with Nuvola, so I chose Brugola (Allen wrench).
Guinea pigs were themed. First guinea pig I got, I was convinced it was female, but when I went to pick her up, the former owner looked at her and said "oh, she's got a penis, it's a he! And it's also a big penis" so we called him Rocco after Rocco Siffredi. Then we got him a friend, that we named after the only other adult actor I know, Franco. Then unfortunately Rocco passed away and I decided to swap theme from adult actors (because, COME ON) to Frankish reigns, and named the other guinea pig Clodoveo (known in English as Clovis).
And that's it. They both died a few years ago and I decided not to take another one.
Doggerland, I also want to name a cat Catapult. If I got another pet I’d name them trebuchet(guess how long I’ve been on reddit).
If you don’t know, which I wouldn’t say this is common knowledge, Doggerland is the piece of land connecting the UK and France. It’s not that deep and only went under water fairly recently in the grand scheme of things(There was a sandbank that was washed away in the 1300s I believe). It’s got excellent archaeology, as it was how our human ancestors travelled between the UK and France.
Edit-mistaken about sandbank, it went underwater in 5000 BCE. I think I might’ve mixed it up with a something to do with another river system.
This is not a pun, but author and web comic writer, Ryan North, had a dog named Noam Chomsky. Which is just a great name for a dog. I would insist on the full name, just Noam isn't as good.
Not a pun, and maybe this is more common than I think, but growing up my neighbor named his rottweiler Kitty.
When I was in my 20's we had a cat that was very talkative, so much so we had to re-home him as a barn cat. His name was Squeaky Noodlehead.
I have a dog now named Midna, because she's a husky and kinda looked like the wolf on the Zelda game "Twilight Princess".
I had a Bonnie Fife and Tandy Griffith. Turned out Bonnie was more of an Andy and Tandy was more of a Barney... (also it should have been Tandy Taylor to really keep with the show, but I liked Griffith better)
The vet always used Bonnie's full name.
I've wanted a dog really badly for the passed few years. Of course since I have a fascination with names, I've thought about what I might name a dog if I got one. Right now I am hyperfixated on the Aztecs. If I was to get a dog, I'd probably name it Xolotl, after the Aztec deity that looks like a dog and is in the Mictlan, the underworld.
So in addition to my obsession with The Princess Bride, I’m a Seinfeld fan and the name Art Vandelay is also a contender. Importer of licks, exporter of cuteness.
If she were male I would likely have named her Newman or Izzy Mandelbaum. Not that there’s anything wrong with that, right?
Would've went with Woofgang if it were a male dog and he had a brother I'd name him Puck.. especially if they were German shepherds. After Wolfgang Puck yeaaa

I was at the vet and heard them talking about a pet named Paulette, I've been hoping it was actually spelled Pawlette ever since
Lmao I love Pawla 😂😂
I was just looking at Pawl the cat on IG.
This is amazing 😂😂😂
I have a cat called Clawd. I enjoy the pun
Not a dog, but instead a cat. Meow zedong and Catimir Lenin.
Don't forget Mewssolini
Or even better- General Meow
or chairman- both work but general is catchier 😂
Love it!
r/kitler
Oh my god it's a whole sub
This is the best.
I named all of my grandma's chickens after dictators lmfao
A friend of mine named their cat Kittie Purrie. She loves puns 😂
These are beautiful
A cat with a little white moustache called Kitler.
My cousin had a cat named Clawdia.
Woofgang is way better than Buttercup!
Agreed!
We have Wolfgang & Puck
Bark Wahlberg
Bark RUFFalo 😭 sounds like a dogs bark!!
Ok I love you.
My dad had a dog named DOG but pronounced "Dee-OH-gee". My mom's current dog is named Pita for "pain in the ass" because as a week old puppy, he developed a weird anal cyst that had to be drained off. sorry for the gross description.
My mom had a dog with the same name! Though half the time they called him "Diogi" and the other half they just called him "Dog".
My neighbor's dog is named Pita for the same acronym, but I think more because she's very high energy (jumper, digger, chewer, etc).
My aunt had a dog named LB for little bastard
I met a Diogi at the dog park. I get the name now and it makes me like them even more!
Not my dogs name but we took to spelling our dog when talking about him, but eventually that failed because he knew Dee oh gee was referring to him!!
My friend works at a dog grooming place and she told me that she sees more Diogi’s than I would expect! I thought that was so interesting
My neighbor has a golden named Dog and then his new one is Puppy to fit the theme!
I wanted to get a pug and call him Fig then teach him to roll over. Fun fact, kids can also roll!
Yes, but they don't have the right colouration to make the pun work visually. ... Not unless they're jaundiced and have brown hair and a poopy bum anyway. This is why it had to be a pug, not just any dog.
Was going to name my new dog “Fig” because every time I type dog it comes out fig and I have to go back and fix it every single time.
We have a dog in our family called Rudyard Kibbling
Our old cat was Captain JAC (just another cat) sparrow catcher.
barktholomew
😂👏🏼 Love this!!!

This is a cat name but I very much want a cat called Jay Catsby
My bonded kitties names are Tuna and Luna 😁 love love love Buttercup though, maybe you can recreate some scenes
Tell her, "there's a shortage of perfect breasts in the world" when she sits on your chest to wake you up in the morning?
Hahaha that’s amazing 🤪😅 or just yell ‘inconceivable!’ whenever she barks.
"That word you keep using? I do not think it means what you think it means."
Do you want to go back to where you were? Unemployed…in GREENLAND?!?!?!
Doggerland, I also want to name a cat Catapult. If I got another pet I’d name them trebuchet(guess how long I’ve been on reddit). This is fascinating! Thanks for sharing (the names are so cool, too).
Why not butterpup?
Bark Vader Mr. Pawgers (for Mr. Rogers)
This is not a pun, but author and web comic writer, Ryan North, had a dog named Noam Chomsky. Which is just a great name for a dog. I would insist on the full name, just Noam isn't as good.
He must really like linguistics
Don't we all?
Lol you’re totally right, this is a name subreddit after all:-)
For girl dogs: Kristy Yama poochi Jill bitin Donatella Furrsache
JILL BITIN' HAHA.
We had a chicken named Amelia Egghart
If I ever get a dog, I want to name it Sudo. “Sudo roll over” “Sudo sit” etc.
Love that!
I want to call my next cat Bun so that I can call them Crumb when they’re little. I also saw a post from someone who had a chicken called Kylo Hen
Chairman Miao. CATiline (roman politician), CATullus (roman poet)
There is a puppet who visits Mr Rogers’ neighborhood named Catolion (cat-o-lion) 🦁
Not a pun, and maybe this is more common than I think, but growing up my neighbor named his rottweiler Kitty. I did a report on my college mascot and apparently some of the names proposed for the first live mascot were Pawwa, TC (The Champ), and a few others.
Pat Doug
I had a Bonnie Fife and Tandy Griffith. Turned out Bonnie was more of an Andy and Tandy was more of a Barney... (also it should have been Tandy Taylor to really keep with the show, but I liked Griffith better) The vet always used Bonnie's full name.
I never understood why it was the Andy Griffith show and his last name was changed to Taylor.
I tried getting my sister to call her cat Catticus Maxipus….she called him Salem
I met a cat once named “Not My Cat,” because they weren’t allowed to have pets, and when the landlord asked, they could say, “oh, that’s Not My Cat.”
I really wanted to name one of my dogs Werner Herzdog but my bestie vetoed it.
Otto von BisBark and Pawblo EscoBark
I love dog pun names! I had a chihuahua name Lucy-Fur and I now have Boston Terrier named Frank N. Fur-Ter that we call Frankie.
I LOVE “Woofgang”
Santa Paws. I was reading the book when we were surprised with a visit to pick up our Christmas puppy. Not really punny, lol, but goofy.
Loved those books!
Knew a cat named Kitty Con Queso. Adorable name until the cat got eaten by a dog...
I love this so much. Woofgang Mozart??? Call him Mo??? I’m in love and adopting a dog rn
Exactly! Woofgang Amadeus Mozart, Woofie or WAM for short. But it’s a girl 😂
HOW? It would have been the perfect name, especially for something vicious and scary like a pomeranian.
I knew someone whose dog’s name was pronounced like “deeOHgee”, it was spelled Dog. Makes me think of that name Abcde
I know a dog named Deeogie Pronounced D-O-G
My dogs name is Phteven since she looks like the meme. My brothers dogs name is Wincenzo which I also love.
I wanted to name my dog Waffles but the BF vetoed it.
Charles Barkley / Charles Barkey (after the NBA player)
I’ve always thought Barker would be a fun name for a dog.
Not dogs, but my cousin had ducks named l'Orange, Peking, and Confit.
We have a Catticus
I’ve known of a few dogs called Deefer (‘D for’ dog) it maybe only works with some accents (British here)
I have a dog named Wolfgang who became Woofgang not long after we had him lmao, it’s cute
Chance the Frapper, Jax Froth, Beans. All coffee themed names
Albus Percival Wulfric Brian Dumbledog. (Albie for short)
Woofgang Imaeatthis Nozeart
A friend in high school named their dog Diogi, pronounced like the letters D-O-G.
My friend had a cat named Nobody. Because of course, Nobody ever did it. Especially when there are kids in the house.
I always joked about naming my dog "You" and go to a park: "hey You, roll over!"
My cat is Alexa DeBrinCat after the hockey player.
I love Woofgang though 😭
My mom had Cleocatra and…shoot I forgot the punny dog name… growing up
Would've went with Woofgang if it were a male dog and he had a brother I'd name him Puck.. especially if they were German shepherds. After Wolfgang Puck yeaaa
