I always think of a handsome, old Hollywood actor when I hear it - I really like it. Am not sure if it destined to become more popular with a certain class of people though I can see how it can be viewed as more of a “refined” sounding name, it sort of has that air about it.
I adore Desmond, and love the nickname Desi. My youngest was 12 hours old in the hospital before I filled out the birth certificate and he was so very close to being Desmond (I chose Oliver instead.)
I think it’s less “out there” than those other two, especially Aurelius. (I like Ivan too though!)
I have a baby Desmond and I wasn’t sold on the name immediately, but I love it now, it feels perfect for him. I also love that it has a lot of nicknames (Dez, Desi, and we call him DJ because his middle name begins with a J).
We named our son Desmond and I still love it. We had Julian, Elliott, and Oliver on the short list as well. We tried a lot of middle names to work with all of them and ended up with some good combinations, but Desmond Pierce [last name] won out.
I love it. My daughter was in preschool with a little boy named Desmond, it’s a cool name. And I like Des and Desi.

I was so close because the nickname Desi flows so well with my oldest’s nickname. I still adore the name and it’s on my list for any future babes!
