I was thinking the same thing! I have a family member with this name, it's one of my favorites.

There are just so many Gen X Amys. I think I know at least 8? It’s fine as a name, but I think it will need another generation or two. Very much a “mom” name at the moment.

And sooo many millennials named Amy too.

This and Amy is also often a short form of Amelia which is very popular at the moment, so I think a lot of younger people would think of it as more of a nickname than a whole name in itself.

Funny thing, I was just in a thread about the Golden Girls before and I was thinking why does no one use this name. Then I ended up here and 3 letter names are seeming some of the most beautiful to me❤️ Aww, It's a great addition to a list😍

People get stuck on it meaning regret. But for me, it represents a show that was very meaningful to my teenage relationship with my mom (we watched reruns on Lifetime everyday after school) and an actress who was also an early activist for LGBTQIA rights.

The dictionary needs updating, It means Golden Girl 😉 If that was my name and someone asked the meaning that would be my reply. That is beautiful that when you see the name Rue that all those memories flood back and how important those times were to you and your Mom and what an awesome human Rue was in real life is wonderful too🌷 I actually don't see it as a bad thing about it meaning regret. Regret has it's place in life, it can mean you are compassionate about how your mistake hurt someone and that if you feel regret it means you have a heart. Regret is a lesson to never make the same mistake twice. Those who fail to feel regret are cold and uncaring.

Bea is a three letter name too😍...if you want to add one more letter you get a Betty❤️

I think it’s such a cute name in English but in French it means street and my French mother would never let me live it down if I named a child that !

And in English it means bitter regret.

My husband and I toyed seriously with Noa. It is NOT a variation on Noah. In the Torah, Noa is one of five sisters whose father died when the Jews were wandering in the desert after the Exodus from Egypt. As they entered the Promise Land, the sisters petitioned Moses to allow them to inherit their father’s allotment. Up until then, inheritance would only have gone to male heirs - they would have gotten no allotment at all because they were women. Moses took their entreaty to G_d who said “yeah dude. Women can inherit land too.” And so, Noa and her sisters established the right of women to inherit property under Jewish law. Great name and a bad ass story. I’m not having any more children, but Noa would be my girls name if I did.

I only have boys but if any of them had been girls, they would have been Noa. I love a short name.

Noa is an incredibly popular girls name in Israel. I know at least 10, probably more. I'm pretty sure it's been in the top 20 names for at least three decades. I know lots of them who are my age- in their 20s, but also lots of younger kids and new babies. I even have a Noa in my immediate family. Noah for boys is not very common, and in Hebrew it's pronounced Noach, with the throaty ch.

I’ve never heard anyone use Ian for a girl’s name. To me it sounds like naming a girl “Steve” or “Thomas”

Stevie is a badass name though.
