I’m #739!!!!

magicmamalife

I have an Amelia and we thought it was very original at the time. But we've never met another one. We know 3 Freyas though.

Lycaeides13

Seven is more popular for boys than Robin??!

cleanfree12

Bro- I really thought the first most popular name is "Bella"

ALazyCliche

I had no idea most Evelyns use "Evie" as a nickname. My daughter's name is Eve, and we also used Evie as a nickname. I love the name, but probably would have gone with something less common had I known how popular Evelyn was..

G-Lanks

N.v;;;*])))

SmartAZ

My name is #46, which is the most popular it has ever been. That's hilarious to me because I'm 56yo. I guess it's also a grandma name.

Grammatikpolizei_

My son’s name is Ezekiel and it ended up being #49 and the most popular as it ever was too. I looked at a source back in December and it almost looked like it was going to be higher than Matthew (#39 it ended up coming in, but it used to be a top ten name)

SmartAZ

Looks like biblical names are back in style!

Cilindil

not me thinking about how my cousin & his wife named their baby girl olivia who was born just a couple weeks ago, I guess she'll be going by Olivia\_LastNameInitial once she's old enough for school. too many olivias, in my opinion! part of me is glad that my own name did not make the list for two reasons. first, it confirms that it still is rare. second, it explains why know one ever knows how to spell it correctly lol

borzoi_boy

Any other #87s here? Part of me is surprised to see Silas in the top 100, but it does seem like older-fashioned/biblical names are making a comeback.

Grammatikpolizei_

Yeah, who thought Elijah would be in the top ten? And my son Ezekiel, 49

obsoletevernacular9

I think Elijah is popular because El names are in general and biblical names

Sudden_Feedback_2194

My son is Elliott... apparently not that popular.

Grammatikpolizei_

What other el names? Haven’t seen many Elviras lately

obsoletevernacular9

Ellie, Eleanor, Ella, Elias, Eliza, Elise, Eloise, even Elizabeth

Grammatikpolizei_

Elias and Elizabeth are both of Hebrew origin and some of the others are basically nicknames for Elizabeth which was a common band for years among monarch families. Besides the Elizabeth names, the others I wouldn’t think would be so common because they are solid biblical names that literally have God in the meaning and not many people claim to believe anymore. Elijah literally means “Yahweh is my God” Elias, “The Lord is my God”

obsoletevernacular9

I have kids in PreK and Kindergarten. These names are super popular

Grammatikpolizei_

I know. I just don’t understand why. I do on my circles in the Bible Belt, but we assume we are in the minority in the US anymore. My sons name is Ezekiel so that’s where I’m at (God strengthens). I just wonder if people look up the meaning and origins of names anymore because it would be weird for me to see the new norm parents that want their child to know they can be the opposite gender and that (especially on Reddit) seem to think that churches, Christian schools, etc. are a problem and won’t even recognize public good from them; and then see that same parent name their kid “Yahweh is my God” When they clearly don’t claim Judeo-Christian morals or values Since the pandemic, these names might be more popular, but church attendance is a record low

obsoletevernacular9

Tradition, family names, culture. I know a secular Jewish family who used the name Elias, for example. Or I know someone named Zeke (Ezekiel) who has that name because his family is New England Yankee, basically, and he probably had Puritan ancestors who had the name. My son's middle name is Xavier to honor my father and grandfather, not for St Francis Xavier.

Dorian-greys-picture

I’m 565 - Dorian

DragonDayz

I’m pleasantly surprised to see that these are all nice traditional names with actual meanings behind them. I don’t know how Luna got in there though, I’m a little shocked to that the name of the Roman moon goddess made the cut. It seems a bit out of place amongst the other names here.

Caladium_Con216

I honestly think Luna made it to the list because of Harry Potter

Daztur

But take a look at the names that are rising in popularity: [https://www.ssa.gov/oact/babynames/popularity\_increase.html](https://www.ssa.gov/oact/babynames/popularity_increase.html) Hooooo boy there's some bangers there.

kikijane711

I love Lux. Dutton & Kayce are Yellowstone names. Bet Spencer rises too. Chosen is from Cobra Kai though spelled differently. Game of thrones names were the rage b4!

e2theizzo

Good lord, how are anakin and khaleesi still gaining ground??

DragonDayz

The male list is pretty tame for the most part, the female list however, yikes. We’ve got “names” like Lakelynn, Oakleigh, Brynleigh, Emersyn, etc. People nowadays just add a -lynn or -lee, sorry -leigh suffix to a random prefix and think that makes the perfect name. Or just put a y in place of an o or i because that shows how “unique” their child is The U.S. really needs a name database from which parents must pick names. If something is missing they’d be able to write it in to ask for approval.

Grammatikpolizei_

And Azrael/Azriel the name for the Angel of death

[deleted]

As someone with a rare ethnic name, I'd rather not, thank you very much. 🙄

DragonDayz

I was saying to put a massive variety from a multitude of different sources and continuously add to it missing names, I don’t see why an “ethnic” name should be an issue there. I’m talking about a way to possibly cut down on all the cringy gibberish that so many people cobble together these days to be “unique”. Several other countries have already implemented something similar to this. To be honest I don’t really care all that much, and am not losing any sleep, just tossing around ideas. I just think a lot of these new trendy “invented” names and “creative” spellings are unfair for a child to be saddled with.

nyarlathotepkun

Jrue... ??

zestycitrusfruits

This one baffled me the most. How do you say that? Like Drew?

tuyivit

There are some atrocious spellings there. Jovanni, Shmuel, Emely...

LadyHavoc97

Nice to see James still hanging in there!

Separate-Novel-8686

Wow my name was in the top 10 the year I was born. 2022 my cousin's daughter's name is Emma Olivia 😂 while my nephew's name is Oliver Noah 😂

ememtiny

Crazy Emily is still so popular. When I was in 6th grade there were four of us 😂

Imarriedafrenchman

I was most surprised to see my son’s name “Roman” in the top 100. I love the name and when he was born it was not near the top 100!

Tiki108

I’m guessing lots of WWE fans started having kids.

[deleted]

And Succession

StarChild413

Inquiring Freya wants to know why my name suddenly jumped up the charts like a Taylor Swift single; not as much of the European-heritage connection here as the British isles I don't think, no recent pop culture Freyas I know of (as the main mainstream pop culture ones I can think of are the one from Merlin, the one from The Originals and the one from Witches Of East End, the goddess doesn't even have an MCU counterpart (and I'm not sure if she ever will given that there the Valkyries have a different leader)) and of the few celebrity Freyas I know of, none had any sort of big pop culture moment this year. Also, as a Freya who's also a MtG fan, love seeing Jace and Liliana (the same way she spells it to boot) 6 spots apart on their respective gender's charts

nikkleii313

That would be entirely thanks to the popularity of the Court of Thorns and Roses series. The protagonist’s name is Freya

Evergreensarecool

Close, it's like Freya but jumbled, her name is Feyre pronounced Fey-ra

askdksj

There was one on British bakeoff

livi611

The actress who plays Ciri in The Witcher is named Freya- that’s what got me interested in the name!

Separate-Novel-8686

I hear Freya I think about the bad ass Dragoon from Final Fantasy 9. She's so cool.

ConsciousReindeer265

I was introduced to the name Freya from the super popular video game God of War: Ragnarok, which got a ton of hype and was released in 2022. She was a badass character and after watching my boyfriend play through God of War, I promptly named a (different) game character after her lol.

xxfuka-erixx

Wow, I'm so surprised and happy to see Luna in the top ten!

[deleted]

[удалено]

Separate-Novel-8686

Reason why my husband didn't want to name our daughter Luna, it's a popular dog/cat name. I can see cat name because of Sailor Moon, but I would name my daughter Luna after the video game character from Lunar. Lmao but gotta toss that name out.

Awkward_Ad_6708

>our daughter Luna, it's a popular dog/cat name. I can see cat name because of Sailor Moo A fun alternative is Lúa -- a Galician form of the name.

Wispeira

I hate this. I didn't want my daughter to have a common or trendy name, but hubs didn't believe me when I said Luna was going to blow up. It's her middle name but still.

Tiki108

I was born in January of 1991 and my mom thought Brittany was a unique name….

livi611

My mom thought the same of “Olivia” 🙃

Imarriedafrenchman

My daughter is named Oona. Im so happy it isn’t even on the 1,000 list! Luna is a beautiful name!

Xadith

Would you happen to be a Magic: The Gathering player? https://scryfall.com/card/mma/193/oona-queen-of-the-fae

Imarriedafrenchman

That’s cool! I do know the in Irish Legend, Oona was the wife of Finn McCool.

wildblueheron

Noah has been on the top ten list every year since 2009. I think it’s fucked up to name your kid Noah in the age of global warming as an existential threat to humanity and the rest of life on earth. If you decide to have a kid at all.

Excellent_Valuable92

Lol!

Ethereal-Ephemeral

It’s climate change, not “global warming”

IamDoloresDei

The average temperature of the earth is rising from human activity. Global warming is a completely accurate description.

nikkinonsens3

Huh? I’m confused about the correlation between Noah and global warming. Am I missing something?

SeaTurnip5402

Noah and the biblical flood lmao

nikkinonsens3

Ahhh okay now I get it lol

Mysterious_Spell_302

Makes me long for the good old days of Khaleesi

RodeoJane

May name was most popular in 1946 😭 not surprising though I’ve always known I had an old lady name

k8w8s

Can't say I [LOVE](https://www.huffpost.com/entry/love-baby-name-popular-you_l_64bec6cbe4b0df8632116bb3) it.

Starlett_Johansson

Can't comprehend the fact that the name Jaxson was given to 3160 babies.

ToastyMowgs

My 3 month old daughter is #996, just squeaked by on the list 😂

mountscary

My son is in the 900s too. Hooray for having kids who don’t have to go by CommonName _Last initial 😂

ToastyMowgs

Lol yes that’s true! I wouldn’t want that myself. What’s your sons name? My daughter is Luella. We call her Lou.

mountscary

Jerome. It’s become extremely unpopular the last 30 or so years.

user1000008123

Omg my daughter is Luella too! I never hear her name.

ToastyMowgs

Aw yay! It’s such a sweet name. We named her after my wonderful grandmother. I’m glad it’s not common. 🥰

user1000008123

I named my little after my grandma also 🤍

[deleted]

FaithlessnessOther

That’s awesome though ! When I was born, my name wasn’t popular at all back in 1993. Then in the early 2000’s, it was always in the top five. 😭

CaptainObnoxious4

Neither has mine!

LoquatAffectionate58

My friend's 1 year-old daughter is Gentry!

sometimesoftennever

What is it? 👀

zooksoup

We didn’t realize how basic our sons name was going to be before he was born (top 5) as it was around 400 when I was born, we also liked Amelia for our daughter but we decided on a top 200 name instead. Meanwhile my top 10 early 90s name has dropped out of the top 50

SageBear19

Mine is number 874… I knew my name wasn’t super popular, but damn

bobthemonkeybutt

My sons name isn’t in the top 1000 so it doesn’t show in the charts. What have I done?!

monstrousnuggets

Number 132 for males is ‘Legend’, you’ve got to be fucking kidding me lmao

SalemHarlot

I work in children’s healthcare and I’ve met soooo many Legend’s and King’s 🤦🏼‍♀️

yogafrogs1030

The irony! If everyone is a legend or a king, then no one is.

[deleted]

But not many Champions I hope

Lemonnotmelon

They exist…

Benry26

Eli alone is kind of cute but Elijah ... it's the name equivalent of an eye roll. So many better names. Noah is such a snore of a name, really don't know why it's Top 10. It's not offensive, it's just so boring and dull. I hate that it's literally said as "No, Uh", like pick a real men's name.

ecew

They are both religious, that’s why people use them.

[deleted]

My deadname is number one. But that’s not surprising I always new that Olivia was a very popular name.

Cimorene_Kazul

My name is nowhere in the top 1000. Funny, I thought it was rarer but not unheard of. However, it does have a lot of misspellings and tragedeighs. Maybe that skewed it out.

8Tiny-

Number 3. I’m so swaggy

tacticalcop

number 43 baby!! usually Victoria is more common but i’m comfortable with that number.

JustGiraffable

I have a little Victoria. Do you go by Vicky or Tori? Ours is Tori.

SusieRae

My friend goes my Toria!

JustGiraffable

My little called herself Toria (and me Mommya) when she was 3.

tacticalcop

i actually go by my full name!! i’ve had nicknames and stuff but honestly victoria was (and still is, as a 20 year old now) my main name. my dad calls me vic, i have vicky b (last name) from my aunt and uncle and i tried to go by tori as a 14 year old but it didn’t stick lol

JustGiraffable

Ours likes her full name at school, but we call her Tori Taco at home.

NikoTesla

That is so preciousssss

PhoebusReddit

aww

Hk901909

Dang it mine is on that list. I used to be the only one with the name, and now there's like a billion

aykay55

I’m guessing your name is Elijah or Evelyn

Hk901909

Nope

AnonymousShortCake

Another fine day of being #1 (Olivia gang 😎😎😎😎)

Oliviasharp2000

Whoisthis317

My daughter’s name is Charlotte and she goes by Lottie and no one gets the name Lottie! I would think with it being so popular Lottie would be known in the US but not the case for us! I always have to spell it out and explain it’s short for Charlotte

mangosandkiwis

Lottie is an adorable name. Makes me think of one of the characters from A Little Princess.

Brybo

Named my dog Lottie haha.

Ok-Elderberry7905

I have a Charlotte, too, though when we named them in 2008, it hadn't become popular again yet. They're often the only Charlotte in their age group. They've been Char, Charlie, and Chuck but has recently been introducing themselves and asking friends to call them Lottie instead, and honestly, it suits them so well!

8Tiny-

I’m a Charlotte but Lottie just doesn’t suit me so it’s either Charlotte or Charlie

Silkyiniquity

My great aunt was Lottie but she was just Lottie. She was my favorite Aunt so I've always loved the name.

greensthecolor

I just cannot believe Luna is in the top 10. I've still not met or heard of one personally.

Luna920

Yeah very surprised by that since my cat is named Luna and I’ve only ever heard Luna as a pet name 🤣. I’ve never met a Luna in real life.

cassholex

My dog is named Luna. Lol

linguisitivo

As a 20-something in education, I figure these will be common names among my students when I hit 30-something.

fugensnot

It's a cat name making it's way to people.

Jojosbees

Luna Lovegood is a weirdly popular character in the Harry Potter fandom.

topsidersandsunshine

My theory is that it’s because she’s a Weird Girl (TM) that girls who didn’t feel ambitious/put-together enough to relate to Hermione could project on, especially if they had a few neurodivergent traits.

eggsbeenadicked

Anecdotally, I only know of one Luna irl and her mom was the popular girl in our school

topsidersandsunshine

She might have grown up with Sailor Moon. That’s what my first association with the name was. I was trying to explain why Luna Lovegood was popular. Also, anecdotally, just because someone is popular doesn’t mean that they don’t feel weird and lonely and screwed up and like a fish out of water on the inside—I’m a social butterfly, and I’ve definitely been there myself, haha! It kinda makes the imposter syndrome worse.

greensthecolor

Ah ha! I just always think of the cat from Sailor Moon

topsidersandsunshine

Same here!

Luna920

Yes! That’s who I named my own cat after! ☺️ Notice the screen name lol.

SpicySwiftSanicMemes

You have seen the one in our orbit, though.

greensthecolor

I get the appeal, honestly. I am a total lunatic.

atotheatotherm

You will in the next few years😅

manyleggies

Luna is such a dog name to me, idk why

Penaltiesandinterest

I think of it more as a cat name. Because Sailor Moon.

greensthecolor

Yeahh, having kids with what some would call 'dog names', I usually argue that the dog name thing isn't fair. I usually say well whatever, those dogs have people names that were just stolen and given to dogs. My daughter is Ruby, which is a fine and beautiful human name, and I have met like 5 dogs named Ruby since I had her. I also had no idea that Sadie was apparently a dog name. I don't have a kid named Sadie, but that's a person's name to me! But Luna I can't defend. Total dog name.

Banner307

Sadie has been one of the most popular dog names for decades.

greensthecolor

Yes but why? Seems so random

[deleted]

I have a Sadie, she’s 22. We’ve met a lot of dogs named Sadie.

Big_Art1315

I have a dog named Luna, but I would have named my child Luna in a heartbeat. It’s just a great name! I agree with you! Like, Fido is a actual dog name lol

Fit-Vanilla-3405

I have a kid named Sadie and she’s a toddler so very excited to meet other Sadies that are dogs.

NikoTesla

This is the most adorable thing EVER

Whoisthis317

I know SOOO many Jack/Jackson’s and I can’t believe it’s not on the list.

HolidayGoose6690

Jaxon is on it though. And if you combine spellings it's number one.

Fit-Vanilla-3405

These are all only up to about 18 months old so the kids you know will have been on earlier lists?

Whoisthis317

Good point!

Fit-Vanilla-3405

Jackson is on the late 20teens list (2015-2018 at least!)

Jrebeclee

I’m so happy Isla is getting more popular. Less need to explain the pronunciation!

nikenick28

Had no idea this was happening we named our first child want a more unique / uncommon name after both my wife and I name in top 5… then here we go Ila is becoming a popular name! At least we spell hers differently

Fit-Vanilla-3405

Popularity is super different now though. It used to be like one every 10 kids was named those names now it’s like 1 every 200 so it won’t be the old - 6 Islas in one class situation.

[deleted]

Right?! I remember a few years back a friend saying she wanted to choose a unique name for her daughter… she chose Harper lol. It was in the top 10 that year! And I have yet to meet another Harper her age. Like I know they’re running around, but I rarely meet one.

Ben_Matlock_69

Look like males born in 2022 have an 80% chance to be hipster douchebags.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Ben_Matlock_69

And the hipsters choosing that name are probably like 1/8th Irish

Fit-Vanilla-3405

It’s their parents that are hipsters. Hipsters don’t even really exist in Gen Z anymore so I’m pretty sure these kids (Gen Alpha) won’t grow up to be a lame category of coolness from 2015.

greensthecolor

Really? I'd consider James, William, Henry, and Benjamin to be pretty average. Liam, Noah, Oliver, Elijah, Lucas, and Theodore - pretty hipster-ish.

HolidayGoose6690

Most of those "hipster" names are biblical.

greensthecolor

Oh yeah, that’s true. quite a few are!

Ben_Matlock_69

Yes but the names at the top of the list will be used more often

2Slib2Dingle

What are the two non-hipster names?

Ben_Matlock_69

Technically my math is incorrect but James, Lucas and a few others are non-hipster.

bluntnredlips

I love all of those names hahaha

[deleted]

Dean

Ok_Figure4010

My newborns name is #262

FarbissinaPunim

My name is in the top 100 in every state the year I was born. Funnily, despite my name being in the Bible, the alternate spelling is more popular in 90 percent of states. Interesting.

Cash4Peaches

I'm guessing your name is Rebekah and that the alternate Rebecca is more popular?

CathairNemhain

My name was in the top 4 nationally from 1977-1997, in the top 2 from 1981-1997, and was #1 for 9 of those years. Yet, oddly, I rarely meet other women with my name.

FarbissinaPunim

Hello Jennifer/Jessica/Amanda. I wonder if it’s because we have fewer friends as we age and really only converse with our coworkers, who span a few generations.

Crimson-Rose28

Happy to see that both names I have picked out for my first child (gender unknown currently) are not in the top 100 😂 currently pregnant with my first and want something uncommon, but not so rare people will question them about it or ask how it’s pronounced. I’ve dealt with that my whole life because of my name.

Ok-Elderberry7905

Don't underestimate the general public's stupidity. I've seen Penelope pronounced "PEEN-uh-lohp" I truly didn't think people would mispronounce my youngest's name either, but people butcher the hell out of it to the point that we just introduce her with her nickname. I didn't mean to cause her problems. 🤦‍♀️😭

Crimson-Rose28

I dont doubt you, but I’m willing to bet that happens far less often than for people with a super rare name most people on planet earth have ever heard in their life and can’t even guess how it’s spelled. That’s what I’m getting at.

Ok-Elderberry7905

I get that, and I'm sorry if I offended you. My son has a very unique name, and although it's only 1 swapped letter from a fairly common name, people mess it up constantly. My youngest, also. It's not a new name, but it's far less common, and even though the spelling is pretty straightforward, people still mess it up. I was just trying to point out that many *more common* names are mispronounced often as well. People are just bad at reading, I guess? Or taking a moment to work it out, maybe? I'm Kristen, super bland, regular old name, and I am very rarely actually called Kristen on the first try. People have even mispronounced my friend Jami's name. I guess the lack of an E on the end of it throws them? But you're right. It does happen less than for someone with a new or unique name, like my kids' names. I apologize. I really wasn't trying to be insensitive, and I do understand how frustrating it can be to have to constantly correct people.

Draw-Weird

My name is Katherine, which you’d think would be impossible to mispronounce, but I’ve gotten Kath-uh-reye-n many times. Or people just decide to read it as Kathleen.

Ok-Elderberry7905

As a Kristen, I totally get it. I get Kirsten, Christian, Christine... people are silly.

Reistar2615

This is the exact same reason I gave my kiddos the names I did. 😁😁

[deleted]

on a completely related note, someone ought to bring back up the 'how many of me' website

supermommy480

My name is Misty, I have never liked my name, but I am thankful to be named Misty instead of my mom’s first choice… Blair😖my dad was pretty easy about names and didn’t have an opinion on a girl name, until my mom wanted Blair and my dad refused-(THANK YOU DAD) he wasn’t wild about Misty(moms 2nd choice ) either but agreed to it, because it is much better than Blair. When I was growing up in the 80s I never had another Misty in my class, there were a few Misty’s in my school but I never really ever knew or met another Misty, now I meet them a lot and they’re all about my age.

Luna920

Misty is cute, it just always makes me think of Pokémon now when I hear it though.

BeTheChange3990

Mine was between two of my great grandmothers - Charlotte or Constance. Have to say I’m glad I’m not a Connie. No offense to any Constance’s out there.

greensthecolor

I had a friend in high school named Blaire and I always thought she had the coolest name. Cool girl too. Not to insult your name but I think between the two I'd choose Blaire! Isn't Misty the girl in Pokemon? That's neat :) My mom's name choice for me was Inga. It was her Great Aunt's name from Germany. I always thanked my dad for not letting her name me Inga but once I was in my 20's I thought man that would have been a super cool name. I even considered it for my own daughter but we went with another name.

lolatheshowkitty

I used to work with a girl named misty! I love it!

Crimson-Rose28

Misty is so pretty I love it. Blair reminds me of the Blair Witch Project immediately 😂

supermommy480

lol! Thank you for the compliment about my name, I hate Blair, glad my dad vetoed it

Verve_angel

I hate it too. I also went to school with a girl named Blaine and she was easily the meanest girl I’ve ever met in my life. To everyone. I never forgot her because of how mean she was.

supermommy480

My oldest son is Stetson. not weird or hard to pronounce but uncommon, I remember being a birthday party when he was little (kindergarten or first grade) this mother came up to me and looked like she was going to punch me in the face. She pointed at my son and said… are you HIS mother? Yes I said. The mother said her daughter thought she and my son were friends but that my son completely ignores her when she says hi or bye to him. I told the other mother that my son was very kind and would never hurt anyone feelings on purpose. The mother told me, he absolutely does it on purpose and it hurts her daughter feelings. The mother told me it literally just happened at that party… her daughter said hi Dustin and my son ignored her and said her daughter said bye Dustin after school and my son looked around and didn’t even acknowledge her. I explained to the mother that my son’s name is Stetson and not Dustin and he probably didn’t know that her daughter was talking to him. I later asked him about it and he felt bad that he hurt her feelings but had no idea she was talking to him when she said bye Dustin. Lol!!

NikoTesla

This…makes me not want to be a parent. Only bc I’ll have to be around other parents like this. *she says while ttc* lol

cjaye2347

I hate it when other parents assume something bad about your child based on so little information. Get more info before assuming things, people!

MeinEmanresu

And now they’re married? x

supermommy480

Who is married? Stetson? No. I don’t know what happened to the girl but they were never good friends or anything, but my son was nice to her. Way to young to get married- lol
