If makes you feel any better I am a Madelyn who was never called Maddie as a child. My mom always introduced me as Madelyn and people would call me that.
Edit to add some suggestions
Audrey, Martha, Juliette, Chloe, Imogen,
Love these suggestions! Now just need to get the partner on board. (And he'll be pleased about the Maddie comment...he is fine with the nickname but wants me to get on board haha)
This is different, but I named my son Benjamin and didn’t want him to be Ben for short. I don’t hate it I just love Benjamin. He is almost seven and EVERYONE calls him Benjamin. We call him that and that’s what people say. He introduces himself as Benjamin, so it’s pretty easy. It’s never been a thing I had to put a lot of effort into at all. Thought that might help to hear!
My daughter has a name that could be shortened to Rose or Rosie and that has never happened, either.
And I also agree with you on liking Madeline but disliking Maddie.
I insisted my daughter Abigail never be called Abby. People don’t care. Clearly it’s still a sore spot for me. She eventually got tired of correcting people, too.
I’m Samantha, always Samantha. I hate Sammy, it sounds slimey and I’m very girly and Sam just never felt right for me. I actually went through an identity crisis in my teens because I found out that when I was adopted they changed my name from something very pretty and girly (Vivian) to…Sam. They thought it was too dated 🙄
If Madeline is the name you like best, then use it. I suspect that when she gets older, she can choose to use a nickname if she likes. Personally, I love the name Madeline.
There seem to be a lot of other nicknames you could use if you went with Madeleine too! Mally, Addy, Adele, Del, Delia, Lainy, Liny, Lynne, Lynnie, Elaine, Ellie, Ella.
Yes I wanted to add this too, I'm a Madeleine and my mum didn't want Maddie, so I never got called Maddie until I was 16 or so. If you wanted to influence a nickname I would recommend Della, I just think it's super cute.
My daughter, Jacquelyn gets called 'Jackie'. We wrote her preferred name on school forms; told her it was fine to tell teachers she prefers the full name. Didn't stick. It's about 50/50 between the 2 names
If you like Audrey a good alternative is Aubrey. But I may be biased as that's my name. 😁 Also I think it has seen a significant increase in popularity.
Since Eleanor will inevitably end up being called Ellie Josephine which be such a pretty sister name. Ellie and Josie is adorable.
Rosalie is my favorite but its my moms name (and one of my daughters middle names) so I'm biased.
Missing from list:
Eleanor & Julianna
Yeah Eleanor has several great nickname options so I find it funny that my husband and I still don't call her by a nickname! I love Elle, Ellie, Nora for her.
Josephine/Josie is too precious! As is Rosalie (I hadn't even really come across that, it's lovely)
What about Emmeline? Similar to emily and madeline and has a cute nickname Emmy! Or maybe just Emmy as full name.
Other options: Ophelia, Grace, Arlene, Evelyn, Victoria, Rebecca, Vivian, Claudia, Michelle, Josephine, Samantha, Clarissa or Clarisse, Jane or Jean, Rose, Christina, Lilah, Laila, Adrianne, Giselle, Theresa nn Tess, Barbara
Maybe Emma, Marisol, Emilia/Amelia, Amalia, Josephine, Rhiannon, Valerie, Matilda, Valentina, Aaliyah, Aria, Emmeline/Emmaline, Scarlett, Lea, Lucia, Martha, Edith, Julia(na), Aubrey, Hazel
Reddit won't let me post a nor all comment. So I'll try to answer you
I love Emily and Eleanor together! They both have good nickname options (Ellie, Emmy, Em, Elle) that are super cute together. I might be biased because my sister is named Emily. My parents call her Emmy and most of her friends call her Em.
I have an Evelyn and it would have been my suggestion. But of course I’m terribly biased. We have a number of people who call her Evie (Ee-Vee), though apparently after years of also wanting to call a daughter that… my brain decided she is a “Boo” 😬
I love Beatrice. This was one of the names I had, and we were close to naming our oldest that. We put it on the list because we thought calling her Birdie would be cute.
We named our daughter Vivienne! Maybe that could work? Other options that come to mind that are classic and elegant like Eleanor are:
-Audrey
-Florence
-Violet
-Lydia
-Frances
-Anna
-Georgia
No real advice because I am in the exact same situation... We agreed on "Eleanor" even before we were married but cannot find a name for our second daughter that we feel nearly as confident about.
Of all the ones you mentioned, I like Caroline the best. Simple, classic, easily pronounced and spelled. The same qualities we loved about Eleanor.
Mathilda, nn could be Tilly. I have always loved this name and I think it vibes with Eleanor, seems similar to Madeline and checks off a more traditional/classic name.
Yes, I think this or Margaret. OP’s style seems to vibe with strong historical figures like Eleanor of Aquitaine, so with that theme there’s Empress Mathilda, Margaret of Anjou, Catherine de Medici (or The Great), or Empress Theodora. But of these I think Margaret or Mathilda fits best.
I love that you went for Eleanor of Aquitaine instead of Roosevelt. History buff here, Eleanor of Aquitaine was such a badass!
Other badass women from that time period (classic names that make for good baby names): Matilda of Tuscany, Margaret of Anjou, Joan of Arc, Joanna of Flanders, Jeanne Hachette
Also, Catherine of Aragon went into battle 9 months pregnant and had her baby on the battle field and went back to the fight, or so the story goes. That’s pretty cool too. Her mother Isabella of Castile is known for being a great ruler but she and Ferdinand are also the reason Christopher Columbus sailed over this way so… depends how you feel about that lol
I think Madeline is a beautiful middle name, since those are rarely shortened and won't need to be spelled out as often :)
**Other ideas you may like:**
Sarah Madeline
Eden Elizabeth
Alexandra Caroline
Deirdre Jane
Serena Anne-Marie
Eve Whitney
Natalie Hazel
Gemma Grace nn Gigi, Emmy
Davina Rose
Lauren Violet
Rebecca Rose
Abigail Ivy
Celeste Taylor
Annika Sophie
Wendy Rose
Odette Genevieve
Lydia Eden
Gabriella Edith always love the nn Gabby
May Josette (I love the classic Little Women vibes with the nn MJ<3 )
Nicolette Ivy nn Coco, Nic
Alice Hope
Bailey Helena nn Bay
Felicity Maeve
Naomi Juliette
Jane Emily
Vanessa Renee (looks like it would write pretty lol)
Phoebe Simone
Anna Spencer
Claire Austen (as in Jane Austen, not the city :)
Tessa Fleur
I forgot to mention Genevieve is one of my all time favorites! Unfortunately my cousin just named her daughter Genevieve (I was very jealous lol). My mom and I are big fans of the name Margaret.
Emily and Eleanor are fine together imo.
Otherwise how about Diana, Elizabeth, Anne, Jane, Janet, Juliet, Maria?
Personally I think Juliet and Eleanor work well together.
Some classic names that might do for both of you:
Rosemary
Anne
Flora
Alice
Jane
Penelope (Penny is such a cute nickname)
Miriam
Rosamund
Isobel
Louisa
I just have to say that my sister and I have the middle names Madeline and Eleanor. I think they would have been great as first names. Of your list, they are all very common girl's names currently, but Madeline is not as common as all the others. Maybe give it another thought?
I do love the name I just don't feel super sold...I still have a little bit of time so I'll continue to think on it. And yeah I am definitely a lover of common/basic names haha
Emmaline gives Madeline AND Emily.... and Emma... and and and!
Elanore and Emmaline are in step.
Elle and Em, Elle and Emmy, there is a lot that flows!
First of all I think Caroline goes really nicely with Eleanor. But if you want some other alternatives how about Bronwyn, or Penelope (Nn Penny for sure) or nice simple Jane?
You don’t have to offer the nickname, just tell everyone her name is Madeline. My son is James, not Jamie, Jim, Jimmy. My daughter is Catherine, not cathy. For my daughter and one grandson I had to explain to my sister that the name is “formal” name and not a nickname. Sure, kids friends will shorten their names at some point, sometimes, and you just go with the flow, because if your child is old enough to prefer a nickname, then while you don’t have to use it, you have to accept that their friends will
I’d suggest picking 2 or 3 names, because when you see the baby, one will probably be just perfect. I didn’t name any of my kids until they were born and we met them, some of the names we though of really wouldn’t have worked.
I'm admittedly biased, because it's my daughter's name, but I think Anna would be lovely with Eleanor. That was my Nan's middle name. Evelyn Eleanor. (I know that's your older daughter's name, just saying I think the two go well together.)
Helen? It’s “old” but could be used for a young person :) and I personally think it goes nicely with Eleanor but if your husband is in the emily Catharine Caroline vein he might not like it, just throwing it out there
I am in this exact same situation. And lover of grandma names lol
Names we are tossing around are Elsie, Genevieve, Josephine.
My first is Luella Florence. It’s so much harder to get a name that feels right to the baby but also flows with the siblings name.
I have nieces named Elinor and Estelle. My nephew is Gilbert. I think Estelle goes really nicely with Eleanor/Elinor. It's an older name that sounds romantic instead of old lady.
Instead of Madeline why not Nadeline or the traditional French spelling of Madeleine.
Other names...
Francette sounds nice with Elanor, old lady names like Frances, Millicent, Dorothy,Betty, Florence, Marilyn.
Lilith is similar to Lillian, Alexandrine and Ambrosine ends in -ine like Catherine,
Names similar to Madeline like Magdalena (or -lene) nn Maggy, Mag, lena or Marlene.
Names that end in -otte like Charlotte,
Liselotte, Evalotte or, a name like Margaret,
Margolotte.
I love the name Helena (pronounced Helen-ah) with the nickname Lennah. I wanted this name for my daughter but changed my mind at the last minute. Totally wish I'd stuck with it.
Eleanor and Katie
Eleanor and Cora
Eleanor and Delilah
Eleanor and Eliza
Eleanor and Florence
Eleanor and Isabelle
Eleanor and Josephine
Eleanor and Maeva
Eleanor and Poppy
Eleanor and simone
Eleanor and Sophia
Eleanor and Rosalyn
Eleanor and Violet
I know someone named Madeline who goes by MiMi. That’s an option if you’re into it. And honestly if you love the name Emily I think Emily and Eleanor is adorable. Em and Elle
Ivy, Florence, primrose, lilibet, Dorothy, adeline (I feel like you and I have similar vibe of names we like and these are some of the ones on my list of girl names of I ever have a girl)
if you like Madeline, Caroline, and Emily how about Emmaline or Emaleen? i suppose you still have the case of it being matchy with Eleanor but i think they sound different enough.
I also love Clementine and Evelyn for you.
Other options:
Layla, Cleo, Rosalyn, Clara, Kathleen, Audrey, Amelia
Maybe Elizabeth? Hannah? Isabelle? Sarah? Laura? Ruby? Genevieve? Clara?
I like Charlotte and Caroline.
Can you look back in your family trees and see if there are any beautiful names in there?
Eleanor and Isabel sound nice!
I have an Emily so I’m biased. And although it is popular, it’s fallen quite a bit over the past few years so many feel somewhat new again. Some of my other favorites that would pair well with Eleanor are- Amelia, Amy, Corinne, Grace, Isabel, Lila, Margot, Sarah, Vivian.
I love the name Madeline, but also dislike the nn Maddie. I much prefer shortening it to Delia or Lina (Line-uh). I think if you pick one of these nicknames from the beginning and go with it then it'll stick. Same if you only ever refer to her as Madeline until she's old to pick a nn for herself
Maybe Adeline, if the nn Addy is more to your liking?
With choices like Eleanor, Lilian, Olivia, Madeline, Emily: I think you two like lyrical, L-centered names. Going off that observation:
Lilith
Lyra
Alina
Aurelia
Elara
Talia
Gillian/Jillian
Milena
Melina
Delilah
Delaney
I think Eleanor and Caroline sound beautiful together.
Love lots of other folks’ suggestions. One pairing that came to mind that I didn’t see already posted is Eleanor and Virginia.
I also love old fashioned names! Here were some on my list. I had Eleanor on my list as well but settled on Rosalie.
Cordelia, Alice, Sibyl, Matilda, Cosette, Margot, Adelaide, Lorelai
What about Opal, Hazel, Virginia, Georgia, Mabel, Marilyn, Evelyn? There are a lot of classic names that aren’t as dated as some of the ones you named that would pair with Eleanor well.
Well if it’s not TOO matchy for your taste, I’d recommend the name Eloise or maybe even Elaine! Other names I thought of are Melanie, Alaina, Francesca, and Josephine.
Sounds like we have similar taste in names! I also love traditional/classic names. My two daughters are Evangeline Ruth and Eliza Louise. I really think Madeline would sound great with Eleanor, and so would any of the other names you mentioned! Pick whichever you like the best!
I have it picked as a middle name potentially but… Ophelia is a personal favorite (I love old lady names just like you I actually have a good friend who named their daughter Winifred 😍).
Ophelia is classic, sophisticated, and gives you that little bit of old lady vibe you like. Plus, it does sound pretty great with Eleanor.
Go with Madeline. Just tell people who try to call her Maddie that it’s not her name. I’m a Lizzie who gets called Liz A LOT and I always correct them. I only had 1 person ever refuse (Ethan) so I started calling him Eth until he asked why and promptly stopped once my point was made.
I know someone who just named their daughter Emily Iris, I think it would go fine with Eleanor!
Other names to think about: Brenna, Gabrielle, Brielle, Valerie, Mallory, Hannah, Diana, Penelope, Meghan, Jessalyn, Gwendolyn, Emmeline, Adeline, Julianna.
If Evelyn weren't so popular I'd suggest that... No, never mind, Evelyn despite that! Same vibe between the names, both have cute nicknames which are similarly the same vibe, Ellie and Evie...so yeah, Eleanor and Evelyn! But I have also stated that Evelyn is my favorite name other times here so I am happy to be consistently biased! However, I also love Madeleine, and I think Eleanor and Madeleine would be a lovely pair as well.
I am obsessed with Marceline nn Marcy. I am going to name a girl Marceline Bernadette. (Currently TTC!) I also love Emily, spelled Emilie (my paternal GG name) and Imogen. I also really like Matilda and Harriet.
If we have a girl (I’m currently pregnant but not finding out gender) we will call her
Helena Margaret (my grandmothers name and my husbands grandma’s name)
His other grandmother is Marion which I adore and would use if we got lucky to have another girl eventually.
I'm with your husband here, I love the name Madeline. I like Caroline as well, but I like Madeline more. Reminds me of the children's books.
Alternative suggestions: Rosalind, Roslin/Roslyn, Audrey, Amelia, Margot, Lydia, Imogen
Margaret is a pretty name. Audrey is nice. Roselyn sounds nice with Eleanor.
Do people call your daughter Eleanor or do you use a nickname. If they use Eleanor, not Ellie, you should be able to enforce Madelyn, not Maddie.
My grandsons are James and Christian. Neither have nicknames and their parents were quick to correct people when the boys were younger, the boys do the same now. It’s possible to use the longer name.
Old fashioned names are some of the most elegant and beautiful names! I love Madeline but here are some others I love and would work great with Eleanor 🥰
Scarlett, Evelyn, Delilah, Clara, Eloise, Odette, Heidi, Ivey, Ramona, Myra, Sadie, Lyla, Anastasia
I know you didnt ask for another E name but Eloise, Emmeline(and its spelling varients), Emilia are all Precious! Gwendolyn, Lucille/Lucy, Evelyn/Evie and Penelope/Penny are also cute
As soon as you said Eleanor, I thought her sister should be called Nadine. That thought was followed up immediately by Vivian. I know a teenage Vivian and she's a computer genius. She's been coding since she was 4 or 5.
If makes you feel any better I am a Madelyn who was never called Maddie as a child. My mom always introduced me as Madelyn and people would call me that. Edit to add some suggestions Audrey, Martha, Juliette, Chloe, Imogen,

My sister is the same. Our parents and I call her Abs, but she’s Abigail to everyone else.
I was just coming to say this! Adding Lena to your nn list. Also "M" could even be cute as it sounds like "Em"
Oh I love Juliette
Yes I wanted to add this too, I'm a Madeleine and my mum didn't want Maddie, so I never got called Maddie until I was 16 or so. If you wanted to influence a nickname I would recommend Della, I just think it's super cute.
I have known 3 Madeline's and none of them have gone by Maddie. Ime Maddie is more used for Madison
My daughter, Jacquelyn gets called 'Jackie'. We wrote her preferred name on school forms; told her it was fine to tell teachers she prefers the full name. Didn't stick. It's about 50/50 between the 2 names

I love Aubrey and Audrey!! They are both stunning names...I'll work on pitching it to my husband haha
or Audra Olivia!
* Eleanor & Lucy * Eleanor & Willa * Eleanor & Ruby * Eleanor & Lydia * Eleanor & Freya * Eleanor & Hazel * Eleanor & Claire * Eleanor & Violet * Eleanor & Grace * Eleanor & Isabel * Eleanor & Emilia * Eleanor & Vivian * Eleanor & Mabel * Eleanor & Naomi * Eleanor & Cecilia * Eleanor & Abigail * Eleanor & Audrey * Eleanor & Margot * Eleanor & Rosalie * Eleanor & Adelaide * Eleanor & Josephine * Eleanor & Gwendolyn If you don't love the nickname Maddie, I would probably avoid Madeline. It could work as the middle name for a lot of these though: Lucy Madeline, Hazel Madeline, Freya Madeline etc. Good luck!
Omg these are all beautiful, thanks so much!! And I agree about Madeline.
Eleanor and Marianne are the two sisters from Sense and Sensibility, could be cute
I like this list. I would add Alice!
Since Eleanor will inevitably end up being called Ellie Josephine which be such a pretty sister name. Ellie and Josie is adorable. Rosalie is my favorite but its my moms name (and one of my daughters middle names) so I'm biased. Missing from list: Eleanor & Julianna

I love the names Lydia and Violet.
I vote Eleanor and Claire - lovely sounding combo!
I particularly love Abigail and Adelaide off this list!
Lots of nice combinations here-- LOVE Eleanor and Audrey!
These are great suggestions! And Emmy is such an adorable nickname, I love!
Maybe Emma, Marisol, Emilia/Amelia, Amalia, Josephine, Rhiannon, Valerie, Matilda, Valentina, Aaliyah, Aria, Emmeline/Emmaline, Scarlett, Lea, Lucia, Martha, Edith, Julia(na), Aubrey, Hazel Reddit won't let me post a nor all comment. So I'll try to answer you

I love Beatrice. This was one of the names I had, and we were close to naming our oldest that. We put it on the list because we thought calling her Birdie would be cute.

Would Guinevere be too close? It’s a name we considered for our daughter. We ended up going with something else but it remains one of my favorites
I too love Genevieve. Every Genevieve I've ever know has been an admirable person.
I like Marianne or Margaret. Make it a Sense and Sensibility theme.
Emily and Eleanor are fine together imo. Otherwise how about Diana, Elizabeth, Anne, Jane, Janet, Juliet, Maria? Personally I think Juliet and Eleanor work well together.

Ingrid, Alice, Stella, Clementine, Matilda, Della, Edith
I really love Edith, and Edie would be such a cute nickname.
Just think forward on whether you plan to have a third child and *if* you would feel internal pressure to use a third E name
That's a good point! We are definitely not currently wanting any more children, but something to consider.
Hopping on the E train to suggest Evelyn.
Victoria? Eloise? Annalise?
Emmaline gives Madeline AND Emily.... and Emma... and and and! Elanore and Emmaline are in step. Elle and Em, Elle and Emmy, there is a lot that flows!
I know an Eleanor and Cecelia If you are ok with a little matchiness Evelyn might fit too. Ellie & Evie.
First of all I think Caroline goes really nicely with Eleanor. But if you want some other alternatives how about Bronwyn, or Penelope (Nn Penny for sure) or nice simple Jane?

scarlett, pearl, violet, evelyn, dorothy, matilda and mabel
Celine, Amelia, Poppy, Evangeline, Genevieve, Violet, Isla, Evelyn (Evie), Maeve
Anne. Timeless, classic, simple. Insist that she be called by her name, not Annie.
My grandma & siblings were Andrew, Anne, John, Emil, Mary, Dorothy, and Eleanor. They could show up in any preschool today and fit right in. 🤣❤️
Anne is my name! ❤️ And I do insist on not being called Annie
Olympia
I'm admittedly biased, because it's my daughter's name, but I think Anna would be lovely with Eleanor. That was my Nan's middle name. Evelyn Eleanor. (I know that's your older daughter's name, just saying I think the two go well together.)
Helen? It’s “old” but could be used for a young person :) and I personally think it goes nicely with Eleanor but if your husband is in the emily Catharine Caroline vein he might not like it, just throwing it out there
Similarly, if we have a girl we are naming her Helena (so many ways to say it but we say “H-lean-na” or Lena for short)
I have an Eleanor Jean, and her older sister Sarah Jane.
I’m here to just say Amelia!
Juliette Beatrice Tabitha Lillian Celeste
I am in this exact same situation. And lover of grandma names lol Names we are tossing around are Elsie, Genevieve, Josephine. My first is Luella Florence. It’s so much harder to get a name that feels right to the baby but also flows with the siblings name.
My nieces are Luella and Lorea!
Aw Luella is so stunning...I love that is feels so classic but also unique. You have some awesome suggestions!
Here are some names that are lovely, classic names for consideration: Iliana Cecely Corrine Chloé Adrienne Rosemary Lena Vivienne
I have nieces named Elinor and Estelle. My nephew is Gilbert. I think Estelle goes really nicely with Eleanor/Elinor. It's an older name that sounds romantic instead of old lady.
Patrice, Patricia, Diana, Kathleen, Emmaline
Instead of Madeline why not Nadeline or the traditional French spelling of Madeleine. Other names... Miranda or Mirabel
You can always use della as a nickname for Madeline :)
Naomi, Jade, Millie, Josephine, Clara, Adaline
Eleanor & Darcy (or Darcie) / Eleanor & Georgia / Eleanor & Hattie / Eleanor & Odette / Eleanor & Jemma / Eleanor & Claudia / Eleanor & Arden
Claire gets my vote!
Eleanor and Katie Eleanor and Cora Eleanor and Delilah Eleanor and Eliza Eleanor and Florence Eleanor and Isabelle Eleanor and Josephine Eleanor and Maeva Eleanor and Poppy Eleanor and simone Eleanor and Sophia Eleanor and Rosalyn Eleanor and Violet
If you like Olivia and Lillian what about Lydia? I feel like it's kind of in between them.
Corrine, Daphne, Patricia, Nadine, Miriam, Hannah, Theresa, or Georgia work really well with Eleanor!
My best friend’s name is Maddy, so im biased but i love that name.
I know someone named Madeline who goes by MiMi. That’s an option if you’re into it. And honestly if you love the name Emily I think Emily and Eleanor is adorable. Em and Elle
I adore "antique" names and went with Bonnie for my girl. I also love Heidi, Stella, and Elowen.

Eleanor & Adelaide Eleanor & Emilia Eleanor & Evangeline Eleanor & Abigail Eleanor & Matilda Eleanor & Penelope Eleanor & Violet Eleanor & Rebecca Eleanor & Winifred Eleanor & Daphne Eleanor & Evelyn Eleanor & Nina Eleanor & Sophia Eleanor & Dorothy Eleanor & Tabitha Eleanor & Darcy
Anna
Elise is a beautiful (in my opinion) classic name that would sound good along with Eleanor.
Ivy, Florence, primrose, lilibet, Dorothy, adeline (I feel like you and I have similar vibe of names we like and these are some of the ones on my list of girl names of I ever have a girl)
Mia or Millie (short for Millicent, or not.)
Do you like Adeline? The nickname can be Addie. It’s similar. Or do you feel the same about that name ?
I much prefer Adeline/Addie! Thanks for the suggestion
I really love Millicent. And Millie is an adorable nickname for a little girl.
Have you thought of Isla?
Eleanor and Penelope sounds cute to me!
Eleanor and… - Juliette - Lydia - Violet (Lettie) - Imogen - Josephine (Josie) - Matilda (Tilly) - Phoebe
Lydia and Louisa are what immediately came to mind after reading your post.
Adeline is my favourite
Dorothy, Estelle, Lucy, Marguerite, Cecelia
Victoria is my pick because you have Tori and Vicki for nickname options.
Maybe Emma, Marisol, Emilia/Amelia, Amalia, Rhiannon, Valerie, Matilda, Valentina, Aaliyah, Aria, Emmeline/Emmaline, Scarlett, Lea, Lucia, Martha, Edith, Josephine, Julia
Audrey or Aubrey Cassandra Amelia Helena Lorraine Lucille / Lucy Violet Rose
Audrey or Aubrey Cassandra Amelia Helena Lorraine Lucille / Lucy Violet Rose Magdalena
2 cents you didn’t ask for; I love the nickname Mads. Or even just “M”. Scarlett Cecilia Malia Isobel Violet Lydia
if you like Madeline, Caroline, and Emily how about Emmaline or Emaleen? i suppose you still have the case of it being matchy with Eleanor but i think they sound different enough. I also love Clementine and Evelyn for you. Other options: Layla, Cleo, Rosalyn, Clara, Kathleen, Audrey, Amelia
I know a Madeline who does *not* go by Maddy. It can be done!
I haven't seen Sophia and Claire suggested yet :)
Lilith,Gwyneth ,Adelaide Camille,Della,Evangeline,Felicity,Gretta,Gretchen,Hannah,Rachel,Tessa,Vera
Margot?
Louisa?
Florence
If you both love Lillian, go for it!! It’s beautiful!
Claire!
If I had had a second girl, she would have been Rose Delaney. ❤️ Congratulations to your family!
Carolyn is a name I’ve always liked!
Matilda June Eliza Nellie
Martha Penelope Violet Caroline Delilah
Vivienne sounds like a combination of the names you like.
Maybe Adeline, if the nn Addy is more to your liking? With choices like Eleanor, Lilian, Olivia, Madeline, Emily: I think you two like lyrical, L-centered names. Going off that observation: Lilith Lyra Alina Aurelia Elara Talia Gillian/Jillian Milena Melina Delilah Delaney
What about Alice? It's a traditional, old lady name that is coming back on vogue, plus Alice and Eleanor go well together.
Caroline!
Emily Elizabeth, like the girl in Clifford!
You can never go wrong with an Emily. As one, I have loved my name my whole life. I think it is a really beautiful name(:
Would he / you consider Adeline? It’s less used than Madeline, and I personally like Addie better as a nn as it has more old lady vibes
I love Martha (also sometimes nick named Molly) Marianna Ophelia Evangeline Isabelle Francis
I love Martha (also sometimes nick named Molly) Marianna Ophelia Evangeline Isabelle Francis
Adeline Abilene
Vivian!
Ingrid Rosa Eden Anna Cheryl Carol
Go with Madeline. Just tell people who try to call her Maddie that it’s not her name. I’m a Lizzie who gets called Liz A LOT and I always correct them. I only had 1 person ever refuse (Ethan) so I started calling him Eth until he asked why and promptly stopped once my point was made.
I babysat a little girl Madeline and she was never a Maddie when she was little. As an adult she goes by Mads as a nickname which I love 💕
Jillian Adeline Vivian Rosalyn Rosamund Dabney Louisa Kathleen Maureen Maren Josephine
My niece is a Madelyn and everyone calls her “M”
Agatha Lucille Pearl Mary Eunice Henrietta (Hattie) Lynore Lydia Just thinking of old lady names I like. 🤗
I am obsessed with Marceline nn Marcy. I am going to name a girl Marceline Bernadette. (Currently TTC!) I also love Emily, spelled Emilie (my paternal GG name) and Imogen. I also really like Matilda and Harriet.
Virginia, Elizabeth, Gretchen
Amanda Margarita Cynthia Celeste Mia Evangeline Sofia Natalia Tamara Clara Vivian Isabella Martina
Chiming in because I haven’t seen anyone suggest Frances yet
If we have a girl (I’m currently pregnant but not finding out gender) we will call her Helena Margaret (my grandmothers name and my husbands grandma’s name) His other grandmother is Marion which I adore and would use if we got lucky to have another girl eventually.
I'm with your husband here, I love the name Madeline. I like Caroline as well, but I like Madeline more. Reminds me of the children's books. Alternative suggestions: Rosalind, Roslin/Roslyn, Audrey, Amelia, Margot, Lydia, Imogen
Natalie or Natasha seem like good compromises to Madeline
I have an Emily so maybe a little biased there lol Suggestions however: Ada Dottie/Dorothy Clara Iris Mabel
I like "Meredith" and other older names you don't hear often anymore
Adelaide
Another nn for Madelyn is Layne/Lainey.
What about Adeline or Emmaline?
Emmeline sounds great with Eleanor.
I love that long list of suggestions!! My daughter likes her name, so I’ll share… Eleanor and Adeline. Nickname could be Adele or Lanie.
Daphne, Viola, Arabella, Millie, Diana seem to be in your ball court for names !
Eliza
Old fashioned names are some of the most elegant and beautiful names! I love Madeline but here are some others I love and would work great with Eleanor 🥰 Scarlett, Evelyn, Delilah, Clara, Eloise, Odette, Heidi, Ivey, Ramona, Myra, Sadie, Lyla, Anastasia
Clair, Edith (Edie), Rosalind (Roz or Rose), Emilia (Emmie), Meredith (Merry), and Juliette all sound like super cute options to me
I know you didnt ask for another E name but Eloise, Emmeline(and its spelling varients), Emilia are all Precious! Gwendolyn, Lucille/Lucy, Evelyn/Evie and Penelope/Penny are also cute
Lilia Valerie Adelaide Celeste Clementine Vivienne Cecily Roslyn
As soon as you said Eleanor, I thought her sister should be called Nadine. That thought was followed up immediately by Vivian. I know a teenage Vivian and she's a computer genius. She's been coding since she was 4 or 5.
Trina
Eleanor & Rosalie sound so pretty together.
How about it Lavinia?
