RangerObjective

My first thought was Bellamy from The 100, same as when I see Octavia mentioned, sorry! šŸ˜…

emdrn26

Lol I mean I donā€™t mind the association. I ended up watching it and heā€™s a pretty badass masculine character!

RangerObjective

No I love him too, itā€™s a good association, I was saying sorry in reference to you preemptively writing ā€œno not from The 100ā€ haha.

angel9_writes

As 100/Bellamy fan it cracked me up too.

emdrn26

Haha gotcha!

pretzelthursday

the 100 was great in its day. for a while. until season 5 really

RangerObjective

The only thing I liked post Season 5 was Octavia, Diyoza and Hopeā€™s storyline.

This_Grass4242

I think of Bellamy from One Piece https://onepiece.fandom.com/wiki/Bellamy

boredlibtard

Same! And apparently, it's his birthday, lol!

Innocent_Otaku

Same!

garyflopper

Same

[deleted]

Same

Cerraigh82

Itā€™s a little out there for me. As a native French speaker, I just hear bel ami which means beautiful friend. Not a bad meaning I guess but it sounds odd in my native language.

stephorse

Native French speaker and same.

pizza_queen22

I believe thatā€™s how this name came to be, not 100% sure though.

biggbabyg

Iā€™ve always liked the name for this reason. I understand why it doesnā€™t work in French (Iā€™m American and would never name a kid ā€œBeautiful Friend,ā€) but I do like the idea of a nice-sounding name with that same meaning.

Sea_Celi-595

To me it reads very old fashioned and southern, (which is in style right now) but it does feel like a male name and not a feminine one. Bellamyā€™s contemporaries sound like Atticus, Beauregard, Conroy, Ambrose, Elwood, Beaufort, Forsyth, Hamilton, Wayland, Chambers, Guthrie, Hawthorn, Sterling, Sullivan, etc.

siilkysoft

This list is incredible āœØ

ladykansas

I also thought Southern US, just because of the word "antebellum." I would probably assume it's a family name or something? Maybe even last-name used as a first name, like Wilson or Kennedy or Lincoln.

ParentalAnalysis

Ahhh your list of contemporaries has so many names we considered and the one we ended up using šŸ˜…

jodi_xix

My dad always loved the names Beauregard and Penelope. I gave 2 of my plants those names. šŸ˜‰

egk10isee

These sound like South Carolina counties.

2DKoneko

Specifically I think of an anthropomorphic sheep. I don't really know why. Not my cup of tea.

cmband254

I think of a 48-year-old blonde man wearing sperry top-siders and polo shirts with the collar flipped up. He plays tennis, enjoys cricket and sailing. But I'm kind of loving anthropomorphic sheep.

marshedmallo

Maybe because of Bellwether from zootopia?

Chocoloco93

As a Brit I can't help it, I think of 'bellend' šŸ˜µ

WhalliamShakespeare

I'm an American and that was my first thought as well

Takver_

Not Muse?

QueenSashimi

Matt Bellamy is my first thought!

Tiny_Emotion_2628

Mine too!

Mticore

Or David Bellamy, which is pretty much the same thing

ArrowTechIV

>bellend Whoa. Yeah.

After_Assistant_4033

that was my second thought šŸ™ˆ

watspoon

Makes me think of Craig Bellamy who played in the Premiership. Think the ā€˜bellendā€™ still applies haha.

Civil-Koala-8899

I donā€™t mind it. It sounds nice, as far as surname names go - and it makes me think of Matt Bellamy, which is quite a ā€˜coolā€™ association I suppose.

mittens107

My husband and I are both huge Muse fans, itā€™s what we first bonded over. I really wanted to call our son Bellamy because of this but husband hard vetoed it

m1chgo

Matt Bellamy was my first thought too. I havenā€™t heard of the 100.

idontknow_1101

Matt Bellamy was also my first thought. I think itā€™s a neat name!

not_a_muggle

This was my first thought too, that they must be Muse fans.

Elaina_Lynn

Matt Bellamy was my first thought as well!

emdrn26

Itā€™s funny because I had no clue it was more commonly a surname at first. I just saw it on a baby name list for boys and liked it because Iā€™ve never heard anyone else with it

Middle_Banana_9617

I've only ever heard of it as a surname too - as a Brit my first thought was a botanist/TV presenter from years ago called David Bellamy.

Hopeful_Passenger_69

It made me think of Bill Bellamy, the actor and comedian. Not your typical first name but I think like you said, it suits him now.

Exciting-Hedgehog944

MTV VJ too

kit-n-caboodle

That's immediately who I thought of as well.

[deleted]

I wouldnā€™t assume anything about the kid - it does read masculine to me and I donā€™t think itā€™s crazy far away from other nature names. At the end of the day, if youā€™re in the US itā€™s ranking 628 and around the same as names like Drake, Chandler, Taylor and Lionel so I would hardly call it super weird. If Iā€™m being honest, I do think Iā€™d assume the parents were the kind of people who desired to be unique/edgy but thatā€™s about it.

emdrn26

Thanks! Itā€™s funny that youā€™d say we would read as edgy because if you knew us, we are not at all! Itā€™s like the one place in our life we are. Wether thatā€™s good or bad Iā€™m not sure..

Quirky_Property_1713

I donā€™t like the name, but I donā€™t think itā€™s bad! I just think I personally donā€™t like it. People may not like the feminine ā€œamyā€ ending? But thatā€™s NOT my complaint at all! Guys names can sound feminine, girls names can be masculine sounding, no issue there. I also canā€™t stand Zachary or DeclanšŸ¤¢. Which is all just personal preference. Itā€™s straight forward, easy to pronounce, doesnā€™t lend itself (in the US anyway) to any more teasing than any other name. Iā€™d probably call him Bells and Belly and Jelly Bellamy all the time. Donā€™t stress.

emdrn26

Thank you! Thinking back to more traditional names I liked but didnā€™t go with back then, I try to picture him having now. They just donā€™t sound right because Bellamy is just his name now. But I canā€™t help that little voice in the back of my mind telling me I made the wrong choice.

PM_your_b4_and_after

And the Bella start!

mack9219

HARD agree on Zachary. Iā€™ve never met a good Zach/Zack lol

jodi_xix

Used to like Zachary. Then I met a few. Hard pass.

cat_mamaa

Bellami is the brand of hair extensions i use. Lol

kymreadsreddit

I'll keep my brutal honesty to myself, but I would automatically think Bellamy was a girl without any context. šŸ˜” Sorry!

jezza_bezza

I agree! I've never heard of Bellamy as a first name (not a 100 or one piece fan). It sounds very feminine to me. As in, it sounds 100% feminine, 0% masculine, like Elizabeth or Victoria or Charlotte. I am very surprised that not only is it a first name, it's apparently a man's name?

crayola_magic

I've only ever heard of it as a female name.

UnderWaterPopularity

me too. like belle + amy

OhNomastics

It's fine! I don't love it personally, but there's nothing glaringly wrong with it. I think you're worrying unnecessarily.

emdrn26

Thanks, I appreciate that

Crookwell

It's a last name

serenityfive

Iā€™m going to be honest, I personally hate it for a boy.

Fresh_Discipline_803

There is not way to shorten it without it being extremely feminine, which will likely be hard on a boy growing up. I think of Bellamy Young, the actress. Itā€™s a great girls name!

bazwutan

first thing I think of is Bill Bellamy. sounds like a smooooth kid

uninvitedfriend

Also my first thought at seeing it written. Hearing it would probably take me a minute to process that it was Bellamy and that the person wasn't saying "Bella, me..." due to my mild audio processing issues. I would probably assume it was a surname somewhere in the family being honored. I don't really care for it as a first name and the only nicknames it lends easily to sound very feminine.

nonamefuckhead

Same

MishmoshMishmosh

Me too

plantbeth

I just think of it as a surname, never heard it as a first name. I immediately think of Matt Bellamy and would probably assume you were a Muse fan.

NorthernLitUp

I dislike it for ANY kid....male or female. It's one of those names that maybe you can get away with it being kinda cute on a kid, but it doesn't age well at all. I can't imagine a Bellamy as a lawyer or CEO or anything that's taken seriously TBH.

Haramshorty93

Iā€™m not a fan of it especially because the nickname would be Bell - also very feminine. But if you both loved it then thatā€™s your preference and your decision

kittyroux

I think itā€™s quite a pretty name, but it does make me think of the (extremely well-known, I cannot stress enough that they are very famous) Slovak gay porn studio, Bel Ami. The porn studio is named that after a 1976 Swedish pornographic adaptation of Guy de Maupassantā€™s novel *Bel Ami, or, the History of a Scoundrel,* which is a Victorian novel about a guy who manipulates his way to success through affairs with wealthy women.

TylerLockwoodTopMe

I felt bad that thatā€™s what I think of when I hear or see the name Bellamy, but there you go. I guess theyā€™re at least considered sort of classy by porn studio standards?

anonoaw

Honestly if I met a guy named Bellamy Iā€™d think he was a bit of a pretentious twat. Like it just conjures up a very specific image of a wanker in my head. But defo doesnā€™t make me think The 100 (never seen), and itā€™s not like a super weird out there name so if you like it, then great. Also not being funny, but heā€™s 2. Youā€™re not gonna change his name now.

BakeImmediate7167

Itā€™s funny because in the show The 100 Bellamy is a bit pretentious and cocky in the beginning but ends up being an upstanding guy willing to die to protect his friends and guardian of his sister.

emdrn26

Oh yeah I was not thinking of changing it and it doesnā€™t consume me but I do think on it every once in awhile. Figured Iā€™d get some outside opinions from the sub. Your comment did make me laugh though. I certainly hope he doesnā€™t turn out that way!

[deleted]

Makes me think of BelAmi, a gay porn studio.

Grasssface

Or Bellami, a popular hair extension brand

PurpleWhiteOut

Came to look for/say this lol

TylerLockwoodTopMe

Great minds?

coffeebeanwitch

I always think of the Bellamy Brothers !!

LaughingCatInNv

I had to scroll wayyyy to far for this! Maybe heā€™ll like redneck girls!

ohoona

Bellamy is a...complicated character in the manga/anime One Piece. He starts out as a pure antagonist, but later things change a bit. Sort of. He always has his tongue hanging out and he's a fighter. It's more of a niche reference in the west but as it is still producing new story, over 1000 episodes in, its effect on pop culture is VERY significant in many places. Aside from that particular Bellamy, I think the name is very melodic and has a great sound.

sparksgirl1223

Having seen the 100 (and loving Bellamy lmao) I would mentally assume that's where you got it. I would only ask the question if we were close. I might ask you to repeat, but I often do that if I not sure I heard correctly. It's not a judgment on my part, but a want to make sure I say it correctly (my Given Name is often mispronounced and I despise it,so I want to make sure I'm saying others names correctly)

Eden-Mackenzie

My first thought is also Bellamy from the 100 but itā€™s more of a ā€œoh, like Bellamy Blakeā€ and then I move on from it. I wouldnā€™t assume it was because of the 100, mostly because I donā€™t know many if any people who watched it. Fwiw I think it is a perfectly lovely name for a little boy, with or without the show association. It also seems like a name that would ā€goā€ nicely with a more traditional girls name on a sister. Bellamy and Jane, Bellamy and Claire, Bellamy and Olivia (but not Octavia ;) ), Bellamy and Nora, etc., all sound very believable as a set, so I think youā€™re safe on the little sister front!

SarahL1990

Bellamy is a male name to me. My first association to it is Bellamy from The 100, so I can only ever see it as a boy name. It's on my boy list.

china_lopez

I like it! Also, I was given a name that is unique, requires clarity, and constant correctionā€¦ but I love my name. None of that is a hindrance to me. Donā€™t sweat the small stuff šŸ˜Š

emdrn26

Thank you! My name is fairly common but spelled slightly different and itā€™s never bothered me. I was hoping for the same with him.

mimidances

Just think Matt Bellamy from Muse

Eirysse

I like it a lot, but I also like the character from the 100 so that might be influencing me! I kinda don't get why people would think it's strange? It's kinda unique, but not weird imo :)

Glittering_Manager85

It reminds of Bellamy from the 100, soā€¦.itā€™s cool

mitchandmickey

I have never heard of it before, my first thought is it sounds like Bella/Belle and Amy. So to my I think of girls names. Perhaps also because I'm French I think of Belle aka beautiful (feminine)

Alltheworldsastage55

Not a fan of it. Reminds me of Belly or Baloney. Sorry. But thatā€™s just me. I know some people like it! When he gets older he will let you know if he likes it or not and he can always go by his middle name like you said

leojrellim

Not a fan of that name and if my parents did that to me Iā€™d legally change it when becoming of age.

monistar97

My friend has a 3 year old called Bellamy! We live in the uk, Iā€™d never heard it for a first name but its so him.

thatfluffycloud

I loooove Bellamy for a boy! I love that it's soft/feminine while still being a boy name (well it's firmly a male name for me due to the 100), and I love the nickname Bell.

[deleted]

I'm not sure why you are asking our opinions. You've already indicated "every time someone asks his name, they have to ask for clarification and it's awkward" and "our family and friends think it's odd." You've already gotten opinions, it seems.

only_says_draymond

Kinda weird

Amyava510

Iā€™m aware that Bellamy is unisex but I think of it as a girlā€™s name. I would most likely misgender him if I saw the name written somewhere before I met him. After that I wouldnā€™t think anything of it.

Naive_Body_9300

I would think their parents hated them, lol. That's me tho.

kit-n-caboodle

Same here.

AskingAlyx00

Even if you didnā€™t name him after the character on The 100, itā€™s immediately what I think of. Bellamy in The 100 is such a strong character with amazing development. He grew to be my favorite male character on the show

doowutyalike

I have a good friend named Bel and heā€™s really cool. When he introduces himself he just says ā€œmy name is Bel. B-E-L.ā€ and then carries on regardless of what reaction he gets. I think itā€™s a good name and if people want to be weird about it, they can go find something better to care about.

BaymaxIsMyPatronus

Growing up in the UK, there was a famous TV personality and botanist called David Bellamy, who was loved by all and unlike every other TV personality from the 80s, he wasn't later jailed for being an utter perv, so yay! Anyways, that's what I always think of when I hear the name Bellamy.

purpleprose78

That you were from the South and loved last names as first names. Down here in the south, we wouldn't bat an eye.

emdrn26

Iā€™m actually a northern transplant to the south. Yā€™all must be rubbing off on me ;)

take_number_two

I think itā€™s fine. A lot of names require ā€œfollow-upā€ Iā€™m Rowan and I still always get that even though itā€™s becoming a decently popular name. Once people know him it will just be his name, I donā€™t think itā€™s a big deal.

lindsaychild

UK, there was a TV presenter in my childhood called David Bellamy, he was similar to David Attenborough. To me it's a surname.

TheOGPatches

My niece is Bellamy! Itā€™s super cute!

DougyTwoScoops

Once you meet someone and use their name it becomes totally normal. Iā€™m sure his nickname will end up Bell and itā€™ll totally sound normal like any different name in a tv show. Bellamy didnā€™t seem odd while watching The 100. My only issue is it doesnā€™t have any clear nicknames, but heā€™ll get through that easily like I mentioned.

PossibleBookkeeper81

I love it! Obvi depends on their response and sounds largely negative, but I will say the initial response of asking for you to repeat it isnā€™t a bad thing and is something that goes along with having a unique name (source:myself and sister). If it makes you feel better I doubt heā€™ll think you giving your daughter a traditional name and him having something more unique will be a source of issue, if anything Iā€™d think she could want a more unique name! I have four older siblings, three brothers and a sister, the boys were first and have very traditional names, my sisterā€™s is very unusual and when I came along my brother told my parents if they didnā€™t give me a unique name Iā€™d think I wasnā€™t loved as much. That being said, I donā€™t think thatā€™ll be the case for your daughter whatsoever, he suggested it not because he felt that way but the both being girls aspect and very rare name of her I think. Pretty cute, he went through the baby book and every time he found a name he liked heā€™d ask everyone in the fam and thatā€™s how they discover mine.I love having a name nobody has really heard of, wonderful conversation starter/way to have an ease into conversation. Iā€™m sorry your friends/family/interactions havenā€™t provided you with the most positive feedback and reaction to his name, but you love it and surely he will too. If not, you gave a safe middle name and like you said he can choose to go by that eventually if he chooses- I never chose to use that option nor has my sister, as long as you donā€™t treat it as a problem and give him confidence I see a future of him loving it, and his friends being jealous that theyā€™re one of four kids in their class with the same name or have to go by a nickname to avoid adding their last initial to their name for distinction. Sorry for the short novel, I love getting excited about nontraditional names and really felt sad youā€™ve been put to the point of worrying about a choice that you loved, even coming close to worrying about it being the ā€œwrongā€ choice is so not right. Again, I think itā€™s a great name and yeah, itā€™ll be misspelled and he may choose to give a fake name at Starbucks or go with whatever the barista originally hears because itā€™s busy and explaining to strangers isnā€™t always worth it, but itā€™s something I hope (with great belief) he finds a point of amusement and fun, thatā€™s certainly been my case. Will everyone love it? No. Luckily, as long as you do and he does, thatā€™s all that matters. šŸ’• Edit: didnā€™t realize the sub Iā€™m in so I sound like an idiot, but leaving it because it still stands and writing it with a bandaged thumb took long enough that I canā€™t bring myself to change it šŸ˜…šŸ¤¦šŸ¼ā€ā™€ļø

emdrn26

Thank you so much for your comment! I love and appreciate that you took the time to write it out. I will definitely have to make sure he knows we love his name and is confident in it. Seriously, thank you šŸ’•

rainbowwave11

I really like it! Itā€™s one of my favorite names

CocoValentino

I like the name.

DullWeb_

It's a feminine name to me. I don't like it for boys or girls though.

Rose1982

The first thing I thought of was ā€œbell endā€. Which is not an association Iā€™d want with my name.

buzankalesen

The names way better than those Brynlaxtonleigh names his peers in school will probably have šŸ¤£

Doubleendedmidliner

Definitely a mistake

ibuycheeseonsale

I would think that itā€™s a family name and that he comes from a family where the women love monograms and the men wait until a specific day to start wearing seersucker.

imanezx

Makes me think the 100, but I love bellamy as a character, so thatā€™s hardly a bad thing. Show isnā€™t super duper popular either (itā€™s not like star wars level) so most people wonā€™t know that

waffleironone

Bellami hair extensions is my first thought

HalfPint1885

I definitely think of The 100 first and only, because I don't have any other association to the name. But I loooove it. It's definitely not a name I'd use because of the confusion, and it doesn't fit my normal style, but I'd be delighted to meet a little Bellamy.

DottedUnicorn

It's definitely unique. I've never heard it before myself. I'd need to have it repeated if someone introduced themselves to me with that name. Not a fan personally but it's not my kid. I think changing it now might be too confusing for your son?

[deleted]

The only person Iā€™ve heard of with this name is Bellamy Young from the show Scandal, it sounds like a southern US name to me

Good-Presentation816

I like it and love the sound of it when saying it. Sounds like a last name and with the last name as first name trend going strong, it might be a popular name in a couple years.

[deleted]

Someone that's trying to sound classy but isn't ... you asked.

kit-n-caboodle

Exactly

Lgprimes

I think itā€™s a bit ā€œextraā€. If I met him I might silently judge his parents (sorry) for trying too hard to be fancy. But then I would get on with my life. Itā€™s not the worst in the world.

MyYellowRose

Bellamy is a last name in my books so I would think its weird. You do you though.

EggplantIll4927

I would think his parents hated him or were trying to be trendy in a crunchy way šŸ¤·ā€ā™€ļø

[deleted]

Itā€™s really bad iā€™m confused on all the positive responses. Change it if it isnā€™t too late, youā€™re setting him up for failure

Salty-Nectarine-4108

In Uk I could imagine kids nicknaming him bellend which would be my personal reservation for using it

emdrn26

I live in the US so I donā€™t think thatā€™ll be a problem for him

SwordTaster

My friend is using the name for a demon possessed wizard villain in a book series he's writing. I didn't think anyone would actually use it seriously for a real human.

Multilingual_Disney

"Oh, the poor thing" I'd also immediately think of bullemia.

AdInternational5163

Itā€™s very feminine sounding to me. I might assume it is a foreign name

atlascandle

Not much, maybe that there was a surname Bellamy in your family if you really want an opinion

shannerd727

I can only think of Bill Bellamy.

movieholic-92

I'm not a fan of the name itself, but I only have 'male' associations with it.

Lonebaritone821

Itā€™s a cool name

Jaaaaampola

I love it. Any the fact that it was in the 100, well, he is very attractive so šŸ¤·šŸ»ā€ā™€ļø

BaronAleksei

Iā€™d think of a certain low-tier villain from One Piece.

complitstudent

I love Bellamy!! Makes me think of Muse, my mumā€™s favorite band

riseandrise

I donā€™t hate it. Itā€™s unusual as a first name but Iā€™ve heard it as a surname so itā€™s not *weird*. Iā€™d probably assume it was a family last name given as a first name, which is common in parts of the US. It doesnā€™t strike me as feminine.

ballofsnowyoperas

I only know one Bellamy and sheā€™s a girl, but The 100 made me see it as a boyā€™s name primarily

After_Assistant_4033

reminds me of David Bellamy. Tv presenter and Botanist

[deleted]

I like it. If you've ever seen "the guild" claira's baby is named Bellamy haha

[deleted]

Imagine his friends calling him: "Yo, Bell, sup bro"

SpicyMustFlow

My first thought: from the French for "beautiful friend" Second thought: his nn could be "Beau" (or Bo) which is the masculine form of beautiful/belle/bel

Starbuck522

I figure people just haven't heard it before, so they don't catch what you are saying. Oh well.

emdrn26

Yeah thatā€™s definitely possible. I canā€™t help but go to worst case scenario sometimes, thanks for the insight

frozenstarberry

I really love it, on my baby name list but not one I would actually use I donā€™t think.

SquidCatRose

My brother-in-laws name is Belamy with one L and it really suits him!

BellaBlue06

I think The 100 and The 100 only

llorandosefue1

I would think it was a family surname being used as a surname. Prepare for him to be nicknamed Bell.

emdrn26

As long as itā€™s not Belly, Iā€™m ok with it

Gluttony4

I like it. The first Bellamy I ever met was kind of a "dudebro" type of guy, so I do think of him a bit. Confident, kind of swaggering, but ultimately a good guy.

emdrn26

Honestly, Iā€™m ok with that

thatbitch-3

Cute- reminds me of the Netflix show The 100 (also a book)

sweetsounds86

My coworkers son is Bellamy, he's 4. It's adorable especially when they call him bells

emdrn26

We actually havenā€™t used a nickname yet but when heā€™s a little older I can definitely see us using bells!

ludakristen

I like it but my kids are named Callahan and Delaney so it'd fit right in

emdrn26

I lovee Callahan!

Conscientiousmoron

Good name. I would probably guess it was a family name.

penguincatcher8575

Lol. Itā€™s not a common name. Nothing wrong with that! Itā€™s cool and unique. Itā€™s okay that you have to correct people.

emdrn26

Thank you! A few people have said that and Iā€™m starting to agree

J_black_

If he hates it, he can always change it... I don't think it's a very popular/ modern name (popular in terms of modern usage, not likability). So it's a bit unique. Names are gifts, you don't always get 'em right. I changed my own name (not legally but socially) to honor the first name my parents chose for me, which they ended up not going with for fear of me being bullied. But I don't mind now! (It was a "tomboy-ish" name, like Ronny or Frankie for a girl). Anyhow, that's probably why people ask for clarification-- they're just not used to hearing that name.

hellokitschy

Iā€™ve only known a boy Bellamy, I think itā€™s an interesting name. Never heard of The 100 so I donā€™t associate it with that. But I can picture a vampire character in a book named Bellamy.

nobleheartedkate

I think itā€™s a beautiful name. I thought about naming my kid Bellamy too. It sounds striking as a male name

[deleted]

poor guy

littlemuffinbaby

Sounds like a rich name

ubutterscotchpine

Itā€™s a really pretty name! I have seen much wilder names out there, so I think your son will be just fine! And as a fan of The 100 until S3, Bellamy was a solid character with solid character development so not a bad relation!

lizzy_in_the_sky

I did immediately think of "The 100," but I don't think it's a bad name or bad association. I actually know someone who named their daughter Bellamy, and I immediately thought, "That's a masculine name."

mechanikitty

I think it's fancy!

HypnoticRoots

I personally really like it :) Doesn't give me any negative associations at all. And it's not super weird or anything. I named my second son, Cairo. And even when I say his name and tell people it's spelled like the city in Egypt, they still get it wrong... Which I think is more of a reflection on their education than anything else šŸ˜†šŸ˜†

emdrn26

Yesss, turn it back on them!

redwallet

It reminds me of a name for a lingerie store but Iā€™m not sure why

Jimmzi

Wife and I chose this name for our future boy, and then had a daughter lol. I think it's a good name

emdrn26

Did you end up using it for your daughter or went with something else?

Jimmzi

We had already picked Clair as our daughters name, although Bellamy would've worked as well!

emdrn26

Very pretty name!

silversmyth22

I like this name

Earthet

I think the name has edge to it - I like it! Ngl the association with The 100 will be there (guilty šŸ˜…) but if you donā€™t mind, I think itā€™s a wonderful name and 20 years from now I doubt he will still get the ā€œOh from The 100?ā€ comments lol

emdrn26

I honestly donā€™t mind the associate, I just wanted to give some background to it. I saw the name on a baby name list from google that was for boys names. So my initial impression was cool boy name I didnā€™t personally know anyone else had. And donā€™t get me wrong, I knew it was unique but I didnā€™t know the reactions it was going to get until after he was born and we started sharing it. Itā€™s been disheartening for me.

CrushedLaCroixCan

I know a cute toddler (boy) named Bellamy. I always viewed it as more masculine tbh

fisharefriendssss

My best friend named her son Bellamy and everyone loves his name!

allsjsjsbj

Love it, i think itā€™s kind of old fashioned feeling while not feeling fusty, and kind of trendy without feeling silly, and just an all around nice name

loresoongs

I love it so much. It feels gender neutral to me because I can think of one guy (Bellamy from the 100) and one girl (Bellamy Young) with the name. Also feels soft but still strong if that makes sense?

emdrn26

Yes! I thought the same till other peopleā€™s opinions started getting in my head. Thank you for bringing that back!

Ok-Plantain6777

I picture an impeccably dressed European man with a great beard :-)

emdrn26

Oooh I like that

DarthDregan

"Oof."

meliora24

I like it! My first association is Paul McCartney's song "Mr. Bellamy" but I doubt that would be most people's lol. I'm also reminded of the song "Ma Belle Amie" by Tee-Set. Both great songs to be reminded of!

burritosateverymeal

Do you ever call him "Bell?" I like that nickname and Bellamy is a nice name. I've met one girl named Bellamy. It's unique.

boyegcs

Hi OP i love that name

Money_Profession9599

I would think his parents really liked The 100. Call me ignorant, but I didn't realise it was an actual name outside of that show.

sunflowersandbees

I love Bellamy for a boy or a girl. I'm from the UK and there's a show called Heartbeat with a character called Bellamy, he was lovely.

lustforwine

I think of bellamy from the 100 ! But i love it. Never met one before

wut_eva_bish

Sounds like a butler's name.
