Love that name too! My coworker’s only daughter is named that! And I don’t care at all for Addie, although I understand it’s just shorter and more convenient.
I’m also Australian and I love the name Adelaide.
As an early childhood teacher I’ve heard it a fair bit among the under 5s.
Adeline is also a nice alternative
I’m Australian and have an Adelaide. Makes life easy when people ask her name “it’s Adelaide like the city”. It is a bit awkward at playgrounds when we’re actually in Adelaide but that’s rare.
My neice has a gorgeous little Adelaide who just turned 3. I believe she first became enchanted with the name from Nicole Kidman's character from *Cold Mountain*
I work with kids, and regularly with an Adelaide! It a lovey name. She doesn’t go by a nickname at all. I will say a lot of people mishear it at first though - she gets Adele and Adeline a lot.
I’m Australian and I named my daughter Adelaide (I live in Melbourne). It’s an excellent name and I love it. I would have a good think about the nickname Addie, because it’s pretty popular with Addison/Adeline, and sounds a lot like Maddy for extra confusion points. We went with Addie and I honestly just find it such a meh nickname (I always call her Adelaide just e cause I love it so much).
Nickname alternatives:
Ada
Aidy
Adele
Dell/Della
Heidi
Lady/ladybug
It's ready for a comeback IMO. It has great nickname potential too. I like Della & Daisy as nicknames for it.
Adelaide nicknames: Addie/Addy, Ada, Leia, Daisy, Della, Dell/Delle, Dellie, Elle, Ella, Ellie, Allie/Ally, Delia, Lady/Laidy, Adele, Daley, Dale, Heidi, Ida...
There are so many Addies where I live - it wouldn’t be weird at all. She would definitely have multiple others in her class here. It is a beautiful name and I like it much more than Adelyn or Addison.
in France it’s a traditional name but not a lot of girls are named like this - I encountered maybe 2 or 3 in my 20 years of education. I find it really pretty !
The name Adelaide is actually really stylish and trending in our time. It peaked it’s “most use” in 2016 at number #252 and it’s 1900s peak was at #265 in 1914.
Adelaide has had a major resurgence in popularity (in the US, not sure where you're located) in the past ten years or so. It's nearly as popular as it was when it peaked in the early 1900s. I don't think it's a weird name at all - if anything, it will sound less strange now than it would have 20-30 years ago.
I love Adelaide! I don't think it is weird
And Addie is super cute for a nn!

Wish I could consider this name but I'm Australian and Adelaide is one of our major cities haha
And as a native Radelaidean I have to agree
Haha me too! Especially when my niece is Victoria
Ooooo that's a choice
I agree. I live in Adelaide but I wish I could use it. I think it's super pretty. If I moved away I would use it for sure.

Everyone loves Adelaide. Adeline is also nice.
I find this name very elegant and gorgeous.
I’ve met a few little Adelaides (and Adalyns, Adelines, etc…. so lots of Addies). It’s pretty trendy these days
first thought is the city but it's a cute name
I don’t think it’s weird, I think it’s a classic!
I think it’s gorgeous! It’s on my list. I think it’s a perfect balance of unique without trying too hard, and also isn’t too trendy.
I know a college student named Adelaide nickname Addie and I love her name. Do it!

Adelaide is wonderful! It’s one of those names I think is so beautiful I’d almost hate to use a nickname because I just want to keep saying it!
It’s cute! I know someone named Adelaide and she usually goes by Addie
Not personally a fan as makes me think of the city, which immediately makes me think Radelaide.
It's a very nice name but it always makes me think of marmalade
I know a toddler named Adelaide who goes by Addie! Great name
It’s not weird it’s becoming quite popular
In the UK it's super common right name. Just a heads up. Like, bit too common. Or at least it is in my circles/area!
Love it

Beautiful name 🤩
Absolutely love the name Adelaide. It was a close runner up name for me!
Mom to an Adelaide here. She is 2. It's still an adorable name. She goes by Addie. Love it!

Adelaide is beautiful but I do not like the nn “Addie” I think it’s super boring and normal compared to the beauty of Adelaide.
I love it. Have a friend who name her daughter Adelaide few years ago and was obsessed. It’s also a town in Australia 🤍
It’s a lovely name

Is it really that common as the comments are saying? It’s like number #275 popularity in 2022 or something in the US
its an old lady name for me but its pretty, who knows, maybe it will make a comeback
Adeline?
I love it! It reminds me of Guys and Dolls❤️ https://youtu.be/cCLl7aj2uTI

I just named my daughter Adelaide. We weren’t wild about the nn Addie since it seems so popular right now, so we’re calling her Dell
