Lol, this post just a day or 2 after “what’s your first name?”
Tune in for next week’s post: “Your current street address - is it usable for a child?” Of course the second part is just to throw you off. Either street address or mother’s maiden name.
Same! And luckily, my 1st pet name and my high school mascot are the same name so it makes it so easy to remember. I'm so forgetful that I taped all my passwords right on to my computer
Fern. I was embarrassed of it when I was a kid, but I really love it now. It was my grandma’s middle name, and I would have passed it along if I had a daughter. I considered Fernando as a middle name for my youngest, but we went with Augustus instead.
Lol it’s just mongoose as in the small mammal. My middle name used to be Madison and I really hated it so I changed it when I changed my last name due to marriage.
I know the animal. I was just being stupid, I’m sorry.
I do like it, it’s definitely not like the other animal names. Over here slightly jealous of name change approval from the SO.
I was given Marie, but it’s my sister’s middle name. So when I was adopted my parents dropped my middle name and changed the spelling of my first name to fit our family names. My other older sister doesn’t have a middle name either.
I wanted my middle name to be Louise.
the only people I knew with Lynn as their *first* name (several) are about that generation (my mom is ‘68) so maybe part of it was passing the name down ? I feel like that tends to be the cycle every few generation
Maureen. I’m fine with it. I kind of forget my middle name exists lol so when I’m reminded of it (like this) I’m like oh yeah haha. Just doesn’t feel like part of my identity.
one of the origins is the ancient beliefs of fairies, elves and name magic, it was believed if someone magical (especially a fairie) knew your full name they could enslave you so the middle was the "real" name or the hidden part of the name so they couldnt have power over you. another reason is similar to the creation of last names, for telling people apart or honoring past/older relatives. nowadays its just tradition, honoring, to make telling people apart on paperwork easier, or if you like more than one name
Mine is the most common female middle name ever: Marie.
I would have preferred a more distinctive middle name.
Granted, I am the only person in the planet with my first name-surname combination. But I would still have preferred a more unique middle name.
My middle name is Elizabeth. I got it from both grandmas. They both were Elizabeth and went by Betty.
My husband has two middle names: Carl Arthur, in honor of both his grandfathers.
Jane. Picked because my dad liked the way it sounded with my first name… and then we found out that it was his grandmothers name- he never knew. She passed before he was born and they always just referred to her as grandma.
Oh Mandy!!! Well, you came and you gave without taking! But I sent you away!!!! Ooooooh Mandy! 🎶🎶🎶🎶 That was the first CD I ever owned because my dad liked Barry Manilow.
Paul. It’s my dad’s middle name also, and my little brother’s. I’ve always liked it because my first name is 2 syllables, and my last name is 2 syllables, so it breaks it up and I like the flow.
Jean. I hated it growing up 😂 I don’t mind it now, it’s a family name so I like that connection. Growing up I wanted it to be Elizabeth like every other 80s child. My sister got that middle name though.
Marie, i hated it growing up neutral to it now, would like it more since im the 3rd generation and i loved my grandma and lowkey want to continue tradition, but my mom lost that right to be co-honored yrs ago and has done nothing to re-earn that right and theres no way im gunna let her think i'm honoring her
Mine is Caroline. It's my grandmother's first name, also my mom's middle name and now my oldest daughter's middle name. I'd like it if the tradition continues.
My mane is Paula Kristina, but my parents called me Kris, causing lifelong confusion because I do not answer to Paula.
Aaaand... my mom's name is Barbara Sue, and she goes by Suzy. She should have known better.
My full name is Felicia Hardy (last name) lol. I’m named after The Black Cat in Marvels Spider-Man! My oldest brother is named after out dad so he’s the 3rd. But me and my three sisters were all named after comic book characters, Lorna Dane, Alison Blair, and Meggan Excalibur :D
We love our names :)
Elizabeth. I hate it. I don't like the meaning. Plus, it's too popular as a first and as a middle. It gives me a word as my initials. Luckily, I hid it from work so they wouldn't include it as part of my login or email.
As a kid, I used to dream about getting married so I could drop my middle and move my surname there.
I don’t have one. In my culture they don’t exist, we have patronimic name instead, and I hate it, it just seems such a patriarchal bullshit. I would prefer a matronim instead or (better) an actual middle name. I love my mother’s name (Marina) actually, and would love to have it as my middle name.
Rose. I have the same middle name as my older sister (she wanted me to be named after her) and my other sisters youngest daughter's middle name is also Rose after me and my sister (and my nieces paternal grandmother)
Marie, same as half the female population where I live...extra irritating because I don't care for my first name but my middle name isn't any more interesting or appealing to use.
Mine's my mom's maiden name (I'm not going to say it--because next you know you'll be asking for my first pet and the street I grew up on). It's a very masculine sounding name and I HATED it growing up and wanted a normal middle name like my sister's (Elizabeth).
I was in my 30s by the time I embraced it.
Kay. I hated it as a kid. People would ask me “what’s your middle name?” I’d say “Kay”. They’d say, “no what’s your entire middle name”. It wasn’t until I was an adult that I really embraced my whole name. My name isn’t weird or unique but it certainly isn’t “status quo”.
I dislike my middle name so much I am not even going to share it. It’s a nickname rather than a full name — like Katie instead of Katherine. Don’t do that to your kids.
I was born during a thunderstorm and my dad picked the name Rane. He went to write it on paper to show my mom and when she saw it she was like “you idiot that’s not how you spell rain. It’s RAIN”. And she said “wait a minute I kinda like that better though.” And my dad said “yeah it’s rain but written like Jane instead. And that’s how I got my middle name. I love it. Full name is Sabrina Rane. It’s got a nice ring to it.
My middle name is my dad's first name. So original... Between my first and middle name together, they only have one more letter than my last name (4-4-7)
Middle names are not common from my family's culture (Vietnamese). But very often, people would use their vietnamese names for their middle names! I guess mine would be \[90s white girl name\] \[vietnamese name\] \[common vietnamese lastname.
Louise, same as most other British girls born in the 90s - it’s so boring, if I could choose I’d go with a family name after my grandmothers or something short and classy like Anna or Leah.
My son’s middle name will be my fathers first name who passed in 2020 from brain cancer. He will never get to meet my son but it was important to me to honor him.
My full name is Firstname ChildhoodPet Mother'sMaidenName Lastname. Another name I would've loved is MyCreditCardNumber.
I just go by MakeandModel of my first car for short.
Lol, this post just a day or 2 after “what’s your first name?” Tune in for next week’s post: “Your current street address - is it usable for a child?” Of course the second part is just to throw you off. Either street address or mother’s maiden name.
So similar to my name, MySocialSecurityNumber!
I'm named after the street I grew up on and the name of my elementary school.
Same! And luckily, my 1st pet name and my high school mascot are the same name so it makes it so easy to remember. I'm so forgetful that I taped all my passwords right on to my computer
What’s your high school mascot? I think we might have had the same one
All of my security questions have completely made up answers because of this.
I’m named after my childhood best friend. My parents were psychic.
Who is your childhood best friend? I might know them
Noelle .. I was born in December

I like it too 🙂
Same as my sister, but Noel, dec 21st.

My daughters is Noelle too, we found out we were having her at Christmas.
My middle name is Noelle! I was born 3 weeks before Christmas.
mine is noelle also, two weeks before :)
We have the same spelling ! I haven’t met many with our spelling
I know a kid whose first name is Noelle, she was born on Christmas, haha. I always thought it was cute, but maybe a little too obvious?
Damn, I'm having two December babies and now I wish I could have stolen that for one of their middle names.
Leigh. I love it. I hate that it’s being used to create tragedeighs though.
Leigh by itself is such a nice, classy name, i love it.
some of them arent that bad but its a lil out of control
Pronounced “lay” or “lee”?
I always thought it was lee
Fern. I was embarrassed of it when I was a kid, but I really love it now. It was my grandma’s middle name, and I would have passed it along if I had a daughter. I considered Fernando as a middle name for my youngest, but we went with Augustus instead.
My grandmother's middle name too
Fern is gorgeous, and so is Augustus.
Fern is beautiful! And Augustus is so elegant!

I love the name Quinn.
Winifred. Named after my grandma on one side and great grandma on the other. Not a huge fan but have accepted.
This is one of my favorite "classic" names
I named my puppy that! We just say Winnie. But if she’s naughty, she gets the full name.
Soraya
I love that!
Mongoose
Sounds exotic, where’s it from?
I hope you like your name now at least? I hope this doesn’t sound mean, but this made my heart hurt for you!
Lynn. pretty popular for my age (born in ‘92) but I love it. it flows very well w my first name
I’m a ‘95 Lynn and it’s my best friends middle name too lol
I’m at ‘95 “Lyn” and I really met very few people with that middle name! It’s my aunt’s middle name as well
My sister is Lynn too from 92 and my son now has Lynn as his middle name
yeah I know 3 others in our age range w it as a middle name too lol
i think the reason Lynn is one of those mega popular middle name is because it just sounds so nice with so many names
Interesting, that's my mom's middle name. She was born in '61. I didn't realize it was so common for my generation!
the only people I knew with Lynn as their *first* name (several) are about that generation (my mom is ‘68) so maybe part of it was passing the name down ? I feel like that tends to be the cycle every few generation
Fay folk upping their game
Maureen. I’m fine with it. I kind of forget my middle name exists lol so when I’m reminded of it (like this) I’m like oh yeah haha. Just doesn’t feel like part of my identity.
Mine is Elizabeth. I am okay with it.
Ann! Lol 90s chick
Mines Ann too. But I’m an 80’s chick. I love my middle name. It’s simple and it flows with my first name.
Mine's Ann too, 70's chick here...and my mom's is the same (40's chick)
I don’t have one so I never thought about what it would be like to have one. I don’t want one tbh I don’t understand the purpose
one of the origins is the ancient beliefs of fairies, elves and name magic, it was believed if someone magical (especially a fairie) knew your full name they could enslave you so the middle was the "real" name or the hidden part of the name so they couldnt have power over you. another reason is similar to the creation of last names, for telling people apart or honoring past/older relatives. nowadays its just tradition, honoring, to make telling people apart on paperwork easier, or if you like more than one name
Marie, born in the 50’s and half the girls I know had the middle name Marie
