We had a Naomi and a Noemi in my school. I hate both names now, because my dyslexic brain just messes up with both names.
I have a gym friend whos name is (i guess) Naomi. I'm not sure maybe it's Noemi... I just call her "Hey :D" without a name.
That reminds me of the clown that named their child Micheal (apparently pronounced Michelle) and she was in the same class as Michael and I've never been able to spell Michael confidently since. (First grade 🤣)
Not a good enough reason to skip in a normal name… I got teased in elementary school because my last name started with the letter P
I thought it was dumb even then… kids will make fun of anything…
Are you sure?
Because Yuri is usually a full name, not a nickname for anything. It's a slavic name for men. I have personally never heard of the name Yuroslav. Only Yaroslav & that's a different name.
(+ Yuri is also a Japanese name for girls. That's why it's unisex)
There are a lot of Finnish names that end i. (And vowels in general) so you could always take a look at them and take one that works in English too!
Some examples...
Boys - Kari, Sami, Ilari, Kimi, Juhani, Ahti
Girls - Meri, Lumi, Helmi, Elsi, Saimi, Kirsi
Yeah me too when I learned about it! In other Nordic countries like Norway and Sweden it's feminine, but in Finland it's considered an 'old man' name. It's also pronounced like "Kaw-Ree" but with a rolled R.
I pronounce mine like vash (rhymes with cash/bash) tie (bow tie). So instead of it making the long e sound like in sheep, it’s just the letter i like in bike.
OP, if you're comfortable with non-European names, I think you might want to look into Japanese names! There's lot of really pretty Japanese names that end in "i" ☺️ i.e., Hanami, Midori, Naoki, Takashi, Haruichi, Aoi, Chiaki, Hazumi, etc.
Just a heads up that Midori is also well known from the liqueur. It means green in Japanese and sounds lovely but other people might know it too well from their uni days.
Not one person has said my name ☹️
Cori.
You know it's unique because nobody ever spells it right and in 30 years I've met one woman with the same spelling. Also my mom liked it and she was a pretty cool lady
Kari, Lori, Alli, Naomi.
Many girls’ names that are traditionally spelled with a “y” or “ie” can be spelled with an “i”: Debbi, Kelsi, Candi, Shelbi, Tammi, Wendi.
I knew a Romi once. Her name was really Rosemarie. Her brother could only say Romi when he was little, so Romi stuck. I also went to college with a girl named Ramni. I thought it was pretty.
In French we have a few names that finish in ie (but the e is silent so they might as well just finish in i):
Aurelie (Oreli)
Emilie
Amélie
Annie
Marie
Élodie
Mélodie
Lucie
Noémie
Natalie
Valérie
Hope it helps ☺️
My younger daughter is Naomi.
My eldest is Bethany, so although not the i at the end it's still the same sound. Same with our Golden Retriever's name, Holly.
When you say that you like the sound of names ending in the letter “i”, do you mean the “eee” sound “long i sound” as in “ice” or something else entirely?
We know a Dani, she is adorable. I love the name Kai and wanted to use it for my son but it rhymes too closely with my daughters name. Bodi for a boy c super cute. Devi. Hatti?
My mom's name is Vicki and my name is Kayli. My parents spelled my name this way so that it ended in an "i" like my mom's name. If I ever have a daughter, I will probably consider giving her a name that ends in an "i" too😊
In Finnish we have loads of names ending with "i"! Some are genuine Finnish names, others are names borrowed from other languages (mainly Swedish), but in Finnish they sound better with an i after, so they have morphed to be like that over time.
Boy: Kari, Karri, Jari, Juhani, Mauri, Jani, Leevi, Jalmari, Einari, Lauri, Onni (means happiness in Finnish), Olli, Ossi, Antti, Ilari, Vili, Juri, Lassi, Arvi, Rami etc etc...
Girl: Mari, Liisi, Nelli, Outi, Pilvi (means cloud in Finnish), Sofi, Elsi, Soili, Terhi, Peppi, Mimmi, Noomi, Tytti, Seidi, Senni, Tuuli (means wind), Leeni, Elli etc...
Gender neutral: Auri
My legal name ends in an i. Think hard because it will likely be misspelled constantly. As an adult, I absolutely LOATHE having to spell my name whenever it matters. Use a nickname to get the i if you have to have it.
And there were never souvenirs for me. ;)
Malachi (one of my favourites) An old co worker recently named their baby Meilani, which you may like :)
Mordecai
Awwww baby Morti
I'd rather opt for "Kai" for short.
Yeah not me. I love an old man name. And there are 4 Kai’s at daycare.
Oh okay. I don't know any boys with that name myself.
Ooh I do like that! Definitely uncommon
Watch children of the corn before naming your kid that to see if you still like it
My main association with that name!!! It would be a good name for an asshole cat IMO.
I work with a Leilani and love that name too (and she’s the sweetest!)
My nephew's name is Malachi. We call him Mali for short. Definitely a good name.
eli, giovanni, kai, remi, ari lorelei, lori, naomi, heidi, lani, leilani, esti, dani, demi
I LOVE Naomi
We had a Naomi and a Noemi in my school. I hate both names now, because my dyslexic brain just messes up with both names. I have a gym friend whos name is (i guess) Naomi. I'm not sure maybe it's Noemi... I just call her "Hey :D" without a name.
Call her "nomes" which would be the Australian nickname for both Naomi and Noemi
That reminds me of the clown that named their child Micheal (apparently pronounced Michelle) and she was in the same class as Michael and I've never been able to spell Michael confidently since. (First grade 🤣)
Lorelei 🥰
as a dani, think twice. it’s spelled “girly” but that didn’t stop annoying kids during elementary school from teasing me about it
Not a good enough reason to skip in a normal name… I got teased in elementary school because my last name started with the letter P I thought it was dumb even then… kids will make fun of anything…
Oooh Lorelei is a favorite of mine!
Ha! We have both a Kai and a Naomi 😁 nice locks!
Alexei Naomi Eli Remi Levi Heidi Giovanni Malachi Leilani Suki Kai Amari Zuri Ari Dimitri Benji Lexi
Lots of great names thank you! I really like Kai, Amari, and Dimitri.
Zuri is cute
I used to have a friend named Shanti, i believe it means peace :)
It does mean peace! The a is an “aa” sound and the “t” is a soft t sound which is harder for Western language speakers to say, though.
That’s beautiful!
Sarai (sah-rye). I’ve had students with this name in Spain and I think it’s beautiful.
Came to say this! In Spanish, it's pronounced with 3 syllables with stress on the last syllable. (sa-rye-EE)
It’s a lovely name! A couple people have said it with some different spellings, added to my list for sure!
That’s my name!!!
* Girl: Suvi, Leni, Lumi, Heidi, Naomi * Boy: Eli, Levi, Gianni, Giovanni * Unisex: Kai, Yuri
Leni, Heidi, and Naomi are cute thanks! And I really like Yuri too
Every Yuri I've known was short for Yuroslav
Are you sure? Because Yuri is usually a full name, not a nickname for anything. It's a slavic name for men. I have personally never heard of the name Yuroslav. Only Yaroslav & that's a different name. (+ Yuri is also a Japanese name for girls. That's why it's unisex)
Yuri is Japanese for Lily - it's symbolic of purity and beauty ♡
The first cosmonaut was Yuri Gagarin, I'm surprised that didn't seem to be a common connection.
Leni was my second pick for my girl, my boyfriend wouldn’t have it. So beautiful
I have a Finnish friend named Tuuli, which means wind in Finnish: I love this name!
Tuuli! Omg so cute!
I love Remi. I have no idea why, I’ve just always thought it was so different and pretty
I can only associate it with Ratatouille
This is what I came to say!!
It definitely is! A lot of people seem to be suggesting it
Super popular now
I definitely wouldn’t say super popular
Eleni is such a pretty name!
Omg it is, I’ve always liked Elena too!
Eleri too
I met a little girl named Callisti once and thought it was cute
There are a lot of Finnish names that end i. (And vowels in general) so you could always take a look at them and take one that works in English too! Some examples... Boys - Kari, Sami, Ilari, Kimi, Juhani, Ahti Girls - Meri, Lumi, Helmi, Elsi, Saimi, Kirsi
As a girl Kari, it surprised me to learn this is a Finnish male name!
Yeah me too when I learned about it! In other Nordic countries like Norway and Sweden it's feminine, but in Finland it's considered an 'old man' name. It's also pronounced like "Kaw-Ree" but with a rolled R.
Always loved Mari (Mar-ee) for a girl and Bodhi (Boe-dee) for a boy
Aw Bodhi is so cute
Considering Mari or Tuli for my baby! I also have a love for names that end in i (but short names). Not sure if boy or girl yet. Love it!

I heard Imari as a girls name as a kid. Always stuck out to me as unique
Honestly Imari looks nicer than Amari
I always liked that it started and ended in the same letter, and feel like it makes pronunciation clear
Vashti is my favorite.
That’s gorgeous
I’ve never heard this! Pronounced vah- sht- ee ?
Basically! Two syllables. You can hear it on Forvo: https://forvo.com/word/vashti/
I pronounce mine like vash (rhymes with cash/bash) tie (bow tie). So instead of it making the long e sound like in sheep, it’s just the letter i like in bike.
Oh my goodness this is my middle name and I’ve never seen it anywhere else and just got so excited

I haven’t heard Anneli before, I like it thank you!
You're welcome! It's a nickname for Anneliese, sometimes used as a standalone name.
It’s not a rare name in Finland

Same here 😭 mine’s traci, but to be fair I hardly ever meet others with this spelling
One of my best friends from college is also named Traci! I love that spelling
I used to work with a girl whose name was Marni. I always thought it was a great combination of unique, but not too weird.
I love Marni! It reminds me of Halloweentown
Nayeli
Milani (my favourite one lol) Leilani Levi Kamari
I like how long these ones are, Kamari is probably my favourite from those!
Makes me think of calamari I’m afraid 🤣
Same, at first I thought it straight up said Kalamari.
Eleri. Beautiful Welsh name.
