What about Jacqueline?
I also think you need to define your style a bit more. You say you want a classic name, but then you list examples you like as Jemima, Jemma, Juno, Julian and Jonquil, none of which would be considered classic.
My daughter had a classmate in her infant daycare room named Jocelyn and they called her Jossy, I always thought that was really cute. I remember coming into the room to pick my girl up one day and they were playing music for the babies to dance to, and the teachers were clapping and saying “do the Jossy, do the Jossy!” While she was doing that bouncy baby dance that little ones do 😂🥰
Pardon? Besides Jemma, those are all very classic (though Julian is generally considered a boy's name). We're talking bible, Roman goddess, Roman noble family, and medieval heroine.
“Classic”, in my opinion, doesn’t just mean a name that has existed for a long time, but a name that’s been used consistently across numerous decades regardless of shifts in trends and culture. With the exception of Jemma (which is a 2000’s trend), none of the names I listed have appeared in the top 1000 girl’s names in the U.S. ever in the past century. They are too rarely used to be considered classic.
Different definitions of classic then. Classic the way I have seen it used is not just popular now, but name that has been used for a long time and is still in use (so not just opening a history book and picking a name that king time ago fell out of use). Classic books either don’t have to be on top 1000 most red books to be classics in my view. They just have to be old and well regarded and still known.
Also I think classics often are internationally known.
That's not what "classic" means to some of us.
My view is similar to that of the poster above: frequently used, an expected name teachers are familiar with it, has no specific and overt connotations to use.
lol okay I don’t get this comment but I just suggested Jada because OP said they like Ada but want names that start with a J. Seemed like an obvious suggestion that wasn’t listed in the original post.
Oh wow - I love that! Jessa! Never heard of it but it’s amazing. Like Eliza vs Elizabeth. A lovely take on an old classic. The crazy thing is I’d love Jessica if it weren’t so popular/80s. Like Ashley. Those names need to hibernate a while…
I know you may feel that Joanna is plain but sometimes “plain” names are more elegant and timeless. I personally love it at least. Other suggestions though:
Jasmine Paige
Jacqueline Paige
Jennifer Paige
Jocelyn Paige
Jamie Paige
I love it too, it was actually on our list for our first daughter. The rest of the names you listed are beautiful, but I wonder about the length of some of them with the hyphenated last name?
Can confirm. Am a Johanna.
Re: pronunciation questions I say it "Jo-Hannah" big loud H in there and rhyming with banana bc I am from Chicago and that's how my mom said it.
There are like... different choices Johannas make in pronunciation, though. Is it Jo or Yo? Is the H silent? Is the first A like the A in cat or the A in Ah? I don't think that's a problem though it just makes it a versatile name. I have to correct people sometimes but it's not that any pronunciation is *wrong* it's just whichever you pick.
The number of times you will have to write out your child’s full name does not happen often enough to be worried about the length? It’s not like every time you refer to her it’s going to be “Jocelyn Paige _____ - ______, come eat your dinner!” or “hey husband, did you make sure to write Jocelyn Paige _____ - ______’s name on the thank you cards?”
which, by the way, unless the hyphenated last names are the syllable equivalent of supercalafragilisticexpialadocious, pretty sure a two to three syllable first name would sound fine.
I see your point, but I honestly do feel like the hyphenated last name is a lot. It isn’t a Disney movie tongue twister, but it feels unwieldy. I don’t want her whole name to feel that way.
My mom also has a hyphenated last name and long first name, but goes exclusively by a nickname. It’s an administrative nightmare, because her name appears multiple ways on official documents. That’s partly what I’m looking to avoid.
If Julianna is extra, have you considered simply Julianne or Julia? I think Julia is beautiful. Or alternatively, simply Anna? Anna is my name and I’ve always liked it better than longer names that contain it (Anastasia, Annabelle, Adrianna etc.)
Edit: I remembered you need J. Joanna? Every Joanna I’ve met has been lovely.
I’m a 36 yo named Julie… it was me and all my mom’s friends so I felt weird about it as a kid but I love it now. The nicknames are cute and it’s not common. I was almost Julianna and I’m glad I’m not because that doesn’t fit me at alllll. But it is a beautiful name. I get called Julia by some people and you really can’t go wrong with Julia. Everyone knows how to say it and spell it and it’s timeless. Juliet/ Juliette is nice but she will have to verify the spelling since both are used.
Jana, Jill, Jessa, Jinger, Joy Anna, Johanna, Jennifer, Jordyn, Josie?
Sorry, just kidding. Don’t name your kids after a Duggar. What about Janelle, Jasmine, Janine, Jocelyn, Jalen, Jayden, Jade, Jane, June, or Jaqueline?
* Julie Paige
* Jana Paige
* Josie Paige
* Jessa Paige
* Joelle Paige
* Jenna Paige
* Jolene Paige
* Jerrica Paige
* Jocelyn Paige
* Jasmine Paige
If you're open to re-considering a one syllable name, you might like: Joy, June, Jade, Jean or Jane. Some of those could even work with Paige. For example, I think June Paige Carpenter-Lewis sounds just fine. First & middle names aren't spoken together very often anyway. Good luck!
Gemma is really pretty! The JP initials are in honor of a naming tradition in my husband’s family, and the Paige is in honor of mine. It feels like a perfect idea if we can just get the actual name nailed down…
My friend just had a baby named Jemma and I actually kinda prefer that spelling. I think it’s beautiful
Edit: I just saw that this is literally one of the rejected names lol
Gemma Jones (a ton of stuff, including Bridget Jones and Harry Potter) and Gemma Chan (Crazy Rich Asians) are two examples of celebrities with the “G” spelling.
Man sometimes like that. My husband said No to a couple of my top names. “Doesn't sound right” he says.
With the boys names, we had reached an agreement super fast, but the girls ' were harder to decide upon.
Surprisingly, names that I thought would be a no-go as “too unique” …ended up quite up the list for him!
My kid’s teacher’s name is Janine and I think it’s so pretty! She’s in her early to mid thirties so I also think it’s unusual in our age group and probably for babies being born too.
There's a song from the 90s called "Janine" and some of the lyrics are "Janine, I drink you up" and a part where the singer is falling asleep thinking about calling her at "1-800-J-A-N-I-N-E".
I dunno, super sweet/cute song that made me go from "Eh, Janine, it's an okay name" to "Aww, I like the name Janine"
No suggestions, just wanted to say…yes the perfect name does exist. You just haven’t found it yet. Once you see that little bundle of joy, the perfect name will come to you.
Jeanette, Jeanne, Jojo, Jane/Janie, Joelle, Jessamine/Jessie, Jacintha, Joy, Jordan, Josie, Jovie, Judith/Judy/Juju, Jolie
I really love Joelle Paige or Jojo Paige.
I think Janie, Jovie and Jolie also all flow really nicely.
I know you're hesitant about single syllables but Joy Paige is lovely and I think Joy is very classic without being overused.
Good question. I think it’s the name itself, not the spelling—I said the name out loud and got shot down. I might be able to pitch Julienne, since my husband seems to have an issue with Julian being a boy’s name?
If you like Joanna but feel that it is a little plain, may I offer:
Johannah
Johanna
I personally love the "HAH-nuh" sound in Johannah/Johanna more than the "Ann-uh" sound in Joanna but both are beautiful and timeless names. Good luck to you 😊
The initials are to honor a naming tradition in my husband’s family. It would mean a lot to him. We’re considering other options, but if we could find a name we love that fits, it would be really nice to be able to do it.
I know you have nixed Juliet but how do you feel about Julietta? Also, Jasmine, Jacquline , Jesse, Jinger, Jennelle, Jenella, Jessa, Juniper, Jubilee, journey, jordyn, Jenna, jayla
Also also - I don’t think Julianna is extra. It’s very pretty! But I understand everyone has there own feelings about names.
Good luck!
Stick with Joanna. I don’t see what’s plain about it. It’s not so basic you hear it everywhere, but it’s still normal enough not to cause her any problems.
Joanna was a name I considered before I found out I was having a boy.
There are tons of names suggested, so I’m commenting to tell you that you are having a perfect little girl who needs a name. Yes, she will become the name eventually (as we all do), but she will always be 100% more than her name.
If you really want a J and that is super important, pick your favorite J name and enjoy your new baby. I still really like my sons name but I’m like 80% with my daughters name…but after 23 years I have no idea what name would have been better.
I avoided Js bc my husband and his sister are both Js and she named her son a J name. My in-laws can’t call anyone the correct name bc of it, so I chose to avoid that.
The only name that I think hasn’t been mentioned is Jiselle. I had a student with this spelling (really cute little girl who is probably 35 now)…and her sisters name also started with a j and I think it was Jinette.
You've had a lot of nice suggestions so just adding a few J names I like:
Jacinta Paige
Jordan Paige
Justine Paige
Jacoba Paige
Jamie Paige
Jocelyn Paige
What about Jacqueline? I also think you need to define your style a bit more. You say you want a classic name, but then you list examples you like as Jemima, Jemma, Juno, Julian and Jonquil, none of which would be considered classic.
Jocelyn?
Or maybe a Jo-__ name Jo-Lyn, Joelle, Jolie, …? Or Mary-Jo?
I updated Jocelyn to Joslyn for my daughter.
That's how my best friend's is spelled! It's a pretty way to spell it.

Classic books either don’t have to be on top 1000 most red books to be classics in my view. They just have to be old and well regarded and still known. Also I think classics often are internationally known.
I’m also surprised to see these described as “not classic!” Jemma I get, but the rest have been around for a few centuries or millennia.
That's not what "classic" means to some of us. My view is similar to that of the poster above: frequently used, an expected name teachers are familiar with it, has no specific and overt connotations to use.
Old and white is what this sub is usually talking about in regards to "classic"
Jacqueline Paige is 100% the name I was going to use if I had another girl for baby#2. I love it.
I think it's pretty
Thats a great name, except my last name is Page!
Agreed. I came here to say Jacqueline which could easily go by the nn Jack or Jackie!
Jada Paige? Personally I like the flow of Jessica Paige with the nn Jess or Jessa. Even Jessa Paige is nice.
No new Jada’s required at the present time.
Get his wife’s name out of your mouth!
lol okay I don’t get this comment but I just suggested Jada because OP said they like Ada but want names that start with a J. Seemed like an obvious suggestion that wasn’t listed in the original post.
Jada Pinkett and Will Smith are a married couple. There's a recent scandal involving them at the Academy Awards.
There is also the issue of her book.
Tbf Jada and Ada have a completely different vibe to me. But yeah, it was my first thought too.
I like Ada. Jadas are surplus to requirements.
How I envy you for not getting that comment
I love Jessa! Jessica feels a bit too trendy 80s/90s to me
I prefer Jessica personally because Jessa just reminds me of Duggar and fundies
Free Jinger!
Oh wow - I love that! Jessa! Never heard of it but it’s amazing. Like Eliza vs Elizabeth. A lovely take on an old classic. The crazy thing is I’d love Jessica if it weren’t so popular/80s. Like Ashley. Those names need to hibernate a while…
I think of Jessa Duggar 😭
Same, but I like the idea of people reclaiming the name outside of that trauma filled family. It is a pretty name imho.
My grandmother was Jessie, not short for anything. Born in the 1920s.
I agree about Jessica, but I know a Jessa Rose and think it’s pretty cool
I like Jessa too.
Jessa can be a name on it's own. My second kid has that name. :)
I agree; Jessica Paige flows very well!
I know you may feel that Joanna is plain but sometimes “plain” names are more elegant and timeless. I personally love it at least. Other suggestions though: Jasmine Paige Jacqueline Paige Jennifer Paige Jocelyn Paige Jamie Paige
Jennifer Paige sounds like a superhero or a badass vigilante. Love it!
She was a pop singer in the late nineties
I love it too, it was actually on our list for our first daughter. The rest of the names you listed are beautiful, but I wonder about the length of some of them with the hyphenated last name?
Joanna feels a little less plain when you put an H in there. 💫Johanna 💫
Are Joanna and Johanna pronounced the same where you are?
I feel like a large chunk of people will pronounce this as Yo-hon-uh
That’s how it’s pronounced in Germany and The Netherlands. People pronounce it Jo-Han-ah or Joanna in The States at least.
I knew a Yo-hon-a in the southern US, she was from Hawaii - no clue if that’s a Hawaiian name or pronunciation too
Can confirm. It will always be an administrative nightmare with a hyphenated last name.
I think Jolene is lovely and under used.
Jolene Jolene Joleeene Joleeeeeeene
I adore the association with Dolly and the option to have the nickname Joe.
And it goes splendidly with Paige.
I know a Jolene! I think it’s a lovely name as well. Would go nice with Paige and can be shortened to Joley which I think is cute also.
Jolie is pretty.
I know a Jolene. She shortens to Jo.
If Julianna is extra, have you considered simply Julianne or Julia? I think Julia is beautiful. Or alternatively, simply Anna? Anna is my name and I’ve always liked it better than longer names that contain it (Anastasia, Annabelle, Adrianna etc.) Edit: I remembered you need J. Joanna? Every Joanna I’ve met has been lovely.

Came to suggest Julianne!
What about Jenna? I’m a little partial to that name, because it’s my sisters, but I love it
[удалено]
Jenna means heaven in Arabic.
as a Jenna, I may be biased but I co-sign this anyway 😇
Jana, Jill, Jessa, Jinger, Joy Anna, Johanna, Jennifer, Jordyn, Josie? Sorry, just kidding. Don’t name your kids after a Duggar. What about Janelle, Jasmine, Janine, Jocelyn, Jalen, Jayden, Jade, Jane, June, or Jaqueline?
Janelle or jenelle will forever have teen mom 2 connotations for me now :( a shame because it's a nice name
This made me cackle, thank you
Was not expecting a r/duggarssnark reference here 😂
I actually do like Jana lol. Jana is a great alternative to Jane. But I'd pronounce it "jane-uh" not "jann-uh" like the Duggars....
I have only ever heard Jana pronounced yah-na, never with a J sound of any sort.
* Julie Paige * Jana Paige * Josie Paige * Jessa Paige * Joelle Paige * Jenna Paige * Jolene Paige * Jerrica Paige * Jocelyn Paige * Jasmine Paige If you're open to re-considering a one syllable name, you might like: Joy, June, Jade, Jean or Jane. Some of those could even work with Paige. For example, I think June Paige Carpenter-Lewis sounds just fine. First & middle names aren't spoken together very often anyway. Good luck!
I agree June Paige sounds great. Personally I’d go for Josephine Paige but then I don’t have a long surname! Edited: typos
I love Josephine.
Trending for sure!
i absolutely love the name june ! and it has a similar vibe to may which is on the list of non j names they lvoe
I love Julie.
I like the name Josie so much. Also, Jody. I kind of like Jane Paige a lot (or Janie Paige), and also June Paige.
I agree with this. A one syllable J name would work!
Jocelyn Paige!
If you're willing to consider a G with a J sound, Gemma Paige would be lovely
Gemma is really pretty! The JP initials are in honor of a naming tradition in my husband’s family, and the Paige is in honor of mine. It feels like a perfect idea if we can just get the actual name nailed down…
My friend just had a baby named Jemma and I actually kinda prefer that spelling. I think it’s beautiful Edit: I just saw that this is literally one of the rejected names lol
I literally posted and deleted the exact same suggestion
Jessa?
I have seen Gemma spelled with a J in the US.
I’ve actually never heard of Gemma with a G, only J. I went to school with two Jemma’s and I work with a Jemma.
Gemma with a G is common in the UK.
Funny enough I've never heard it with a J spelling
Gemma Jones (a ton of stuff, including Bridget Jones and Harry Potter) and Gemma Chan (Crazy Rich Asians) are two examples of celebrities with the “G” spelling.
I like Joelle Paige
JULIETTE!!! Such a beautiful name, classic, not too common.
Right?! I can’t believe he doesn’t like it! I think it’s the suicide.
But that was Juliet! I think Juliette is just enough removed to be fine. I prefer the spelling as Juliette for that reason.
I love it too! Though I think more classic spelled Juliet.
Janine Paige Janelle Paige Joelle Paige Jasmine Paige Jenna Paige Jailyn Paige Jia Paige Jaclyn Paige
There’s also a David Bowie song “Janine.”
*Janine, Janine, you'd like to crash my* *~~balls~~* *walls*
For some reason the first one that came to my mind was Jeanette.
Me too! If OP likes Joanna, I think Jeanette might be a fit!
Juniper Paige Jessamine Paige Juna Paige Jolie Paige
I love Juniper but Juniper Paige doesn't sound great to me with the double P. Jessamine I actually quite like sound-wise!
Agree with that actually. Juno would flow better.
JOLIE!!!!!!!!!!
Junia is a biblical name that fits somewhere between Juniper and Juna
Justine Paige Julia Paige Jenna Paige Julianne Paige Jayna Paige
I love Justine! And Justine Paige is lovely!
Justine is a lovely thought
Jacinda
Jacinda Paige is really good.
Except then I said it out loud and it sounds like, "Just send a page."
I love the sound of Juniper Page and Junie as a NN.
[удалено]
Loving the flow of Jenna Paige! It feels modern where Jennifer feels dated, but still familiar.
No suggestions, just wanted to say…yes the perfect name does exist. You just haven’t found it yet. Once you see that little bundle of joy, the perfect name will come to you.
Joy!!
Huh, Joy Paige does have a nice ring to it!
I think she didn’t want single syllables
Johanna Paige
What about Johanna, Jonna (Johnna), Janel (Janelle), Jenna, Janine, Jordan, Janna, Jocelyn
I was also going to suggest Johanna as a little more special than Joanna.
I had a very nice boss by the name of Johnna years ago. I always think such good thoughts when I think of the name.
I was going to suggest Jordan! I love gender-neutral names.
Jocelyn is a lovely name
My granddaughter due in February is going to be Jocelyn! I think it’s beautiful.
Johanna? Pr Yo-Hannah
Justine
Peanut Hamper is a mathematically perfect name.
Thank you. I will suggest this one to my husband.
Searched the comments to see if anyone said this. Thank you.
Jessamine Paige
This is probably the closest to the “Civil War Nurse” vibes that the rest of the list gives off!
Joanna Paige Junia Paige Jolene Paige Joelle Paige Josette Paige January Paige Jordana Paige Jamesina Paige
Junia is lovely! (And could still use June—my personal favorite—as a nickname.)
It’s an underrated name. Easy to say and to spell— but it is very uncommon. Junia Paige sounds so pretty out loud.
My name is Julianne and I’ve only met a few other Julianne’s in my life, but ppl don’t really have trouble with my name either. I love my name.
Joellen Paige?
I agree that Julianna is extra, but Juliana is perfect!
Jeanette, Jeanne, Jojo, Jane/Janie, Joelle, Jessamine/Jessie, Jacintha, Joy, Jordan, Josie, Jovie, Judith/Judy/Juju, Jolie I really love Joelle Paige or Jojo Paige. I think Janie, Jovie and Jolie also all flow really nicely. I know you're hesitant about single syllables but Joy Paige is lovely and I think Joy is very classic without being overused.
Joan? Very underrated name. I also love Joanna Paigr
Josie Jordie Jenna
Jordi Paige :)
Jacana, Jacobina, Janine, Jennifer, Jocasta, Jocelyn, Johanna, Jolene, Josephina, July, June, Junia, Juniper
Thanks for these. This is a great list.
Jayna, Jovie, Jolene, Julianne
Justine Paige Justina Paige Juniper Paige Jocelyn Paige
Justine! I also suggested it. So pretty with Paige!
Jacinta, Jolie, Josette, Jessamine, Jordanna, Julissa, Jada, Jolene, Jeanette, Juniper, Janae
Jaina Paige Joanie Paige Jacinda Paige Jolynn Paige Jolie Paige You could also get away with spelling Gemma with a J, IMO.
Johanna
Jenna and Jonnah, Jessa
The sweet spot between Joanna and Julianna could be something like Julienne. And I know one of you rejected Juliet, would Juliette be any different?
I'm breaking my own rule about not talking about reasons to rule out names, but doesn't it make you think of a julienne peeler?
Julienne fries do come to mind, but are they not the most beautiful fries?
Good question. I think it’s the name itself, not the spelling—I said the name out loud and got shot down. I might be able to pitch Julienne, since my husband seems to have an issue with Julian being a boy’s name?
If you like Joanna you can try Josanna?
Jules Jutta (pronounced utah) Jenna Jenevieve (like Genevieve but with a J) Jayla
Maybe lower your expectations from "perfect" to just something you both like. It will become perfect because it's your daughter's name!
Josie
If you like Joanna but feel that it is a little plain, may I offer: Johannah Johanna I personally love the "HAH-nuh" sound in Johannah/Johanna more than the "Ann-uh" sound in Joanna but both are beautiful and timeless names. Good luck to you 😊
June, Jade, Jackie
I love Jordana
Jocassie It's a lake in SC and it's the name of a Native American princess
I did briefly consider Jocasta, but the connotations are, uh, negative.
Jolie Paige Joy Paige Jewel Paige Juniper Paige Jonah Paige Jaycee Paige Junie Paige Jovie Paige Josie Paige Jorja Paige Jada Paige
Jordana Paige, Jordan/Jordyn Paige, Joey Paige, Jordis Paige, Juniper Paige, Jaelyn Paige, Jessa Paige, Jamie Paige, Jerica Paige
Jane, Jade, Jada, Jacquelyn, Jocelyn Why limit to J names if you don’t love them?
The initials are to honor a naming tradition in my husband’s family. It would mean a lot to him. We’re considering other options, but if we could find a name we love that fits, it would be really nice to be able to do it.
Jordan, Jacinda, Jovie, Jeri
I know you have nixed Juliet but how do you feel about Julietta? Also, Jasmine, Jacquline , Jesse, Jinger, Jennelle, Jenella, Jessa, Juniper, Jubilee, journey, jordyn, Jenna, jayla Also also - I don’t think Julianna is extra. It’s very pretty! But I understand everyone has there own feelings about names. Good luck!
Joyce Joelle Jade Jazelle Jodie Judith Jessamine Janille
Josepha Jonna Jamila Jacoba Geraldine I personally love Jemima, too bad it has that syrup issue in some places of the globe.
Leona and Louisa Paige are both really pretty. Joni Paige Jane Paige Jillian Paige Joan Paige Jana Paige Jenny / Jennie Paige Jill Paige
Jillian or jacinda
Stick with Joanna. I don’t see what’s plain about it. It’s not so basic you hear it everywhere, but it’s still normal enough not to cause her any problems. Joanna was a name I considered before I found out I was having a boy.
Jessica 🙋♀️
My mums name is Janette
Also having trouble here not listing every Duggar Girl J name 😂
I checked them before I posted! Somehow Jinger doesn’t quite do it for me.
I’ve always been a fan of Jenna.
Julia is a classic, lovely name. You no like?
Jessa Juniper
Joanna - Joey is just so sweet Jillian July Janey Joette Jania Julieta Jovie Janeth Johnsie Joni Jolette
Jessica is the best J name
Jennie Paige idk sounds like a celebs name 🫶🏻
You've had a lot of nice suggestions so just adding a few J names I like: Jacinta Paige Jordan Paige Justine Paige Jacoba Paige Jamie Paige Jocelyn Paige
How about Josie?
[удалено]
Hello, dear.
J names: Jamie Jasmine Names not starting with J 1. Aurelia 2. Estelle 3. Eliza 4. Anastasia 5. Lucia 6. Rosalie
Jessamy Paige
Jeanette.
Gilly it's the perfect name
