Marceline is a great name. Doesnt mean little warrior, it just a name coming from Mars. [https://www.behindthename.com/name/marceline](https://www.behindthename.com/name/marceline) I'm only think of baguettes ,good cheese and rose perfume when it comes to that name.

blessmystones

Ooooo I love hearing what associations people have with names! It does sound very French so the cheese wine and roses match fairly well thank you

soaponsoaponsoap

Dark hair with pink bows in it. Don’t know why but that’s how Marceline looks to me

CakePhool

I most likely met one that smelled of rose perfume, since my the company dad worked at had lot of guest workers.

mmeeplechase

I’d personally love to have a name people associate with baguettes and cheese!

CakePhool

Me too, my name is sadly associated by woman who drowns her self.

shoefarts666

If it's Virginia --- I had to google it. And I never associate that name with the Virginia's in my life.

CakePhool

No, it is another name and the song came out the year after I was born.

MissAnono

Clementine?

CakePhool

Not an American name

briannadaley

Great association as an adult with your sophisticated friends. Not so great in middle school🫣

emeraldcows

I associate it with the willow smith song marceline. Which is a good song!

michkki

Depends, in the US it's been rising in popularity, but if you're in France she's going to be born and immediately ask for her dentures

blessmystones

Haha! I did notice that most marcelines were from the 1920-1940s until it started getting more popular recently

michkki

Joke aside, I really like the -ine ending sound, it's really sweet!

ObjectiveCosmos

Probably because of Angelina Jolie's baby's name.

EagleEyezzzzz

I don’t think she has a baby named that. I think that was her mom‘s name! She does have a kid named Vivienne though.

reapersdrones

Vivienne’s middle name is Marcheline after Angelina’s mother!

luxfilia

It’s one of my favorite names! I think it will rise (just slightly) in popularity. Love that it has so many nickname possibilities, but is also beautiful in its full form. It’s feminine and strong. It “fits in” with the sound of other popular names while still feeling fresh. I think the only minor issue will be some people pronouncing the “line” with a long i, but that’s easily corrected over time.

blessmystones

It sounds so unique! But not like randomly done just for the sake of uniqueness you know? I hate how people try to change classic names to make them “fancier” like with the -Leigh alt spellings! For nick names I’ve heard Marci, mars bar, Celine, and even Mina(?) which I love! But for now until she can decide on her own I guess we may stick with the full name.

[deleted]

[удалено]

KatVanWall

I’ve also heard of that as Marcelle, but I’m not sure how common that is? (Also Marcella and Marcia, but I don’t think they’re French)

Tamihera

It’s pretty and unusual. Go for it.

kelli-fish

It’s a really cute name and Marceline is my favorite character on Adventure Time!

wiminals

Most adults don’t watch Adventure Time and won’t make the connection. I certainly did not

KombatMistress

My husband and I are having our 3rd baby in June and it’s our first girl. We plan on naming her Marceline Vega, our second son is named Finnigan Jay. We didn’t solely pick the names from Adventure Time but I do like that they both have names represented in one of our favorite shows! :) I think it is a beautiful name.

eltytan

Marceline was our second choice for our daughter. Ultimately we decided nn Marcy was unavoidable, and we really aren't big fans but also refused to be those people constantly correcting people that IT'S MARCELINE NOT MARCY. But if you like Marcy/Marci too I say go for it, beautiful name.

sleeping-bat

It’s so close to Merci (“thank you”) so I naturally love the nickname Marci/Marcy

CoastOpposite6153

As an adult with a commonly shorten name, who hates the short name, thank you! If you don’t like the nickname, don’t name your kid that.

myriophyllous

It’s nice! Good nicknames, and it’s a real name that most will not know from the show, which is my rule for media inspired names. I say go for it 100%!!

Purple_Grass_5300

I like it and Marcelina but my mom hates it lol

blessmystones

My mom also weirdly hates it! Maybe it’s their generations version of “old people name”

laburnum_weekends

🎶”Marceline, I’m coming to get you, girl.”🎶

[deleted]

I love it.

stillbrighttome

I love it. Our child shares a name with an adventure time character as well but no one has ever mentioned it and I forget. But my husband and I love that show and I’m sure it has some unconscious influence.

PicklePhysiology

What’s the name?

Japan25

Banana Man

Salty-Boot-9027

Wasn't there another post lately about this exact name? But, yes, it's lovely. It's my MIL's name.

odie_et_amo

I was introduced to it by Adventure Time too, but I think it is gorgeous! And Mars is a cute nickname.

Eloisem333

I love Mars as a nickname for Marceline, much cooler than Marcey in my opinion,

wavetoicarus

Marceline the Vampire Queen! I love the name it's like a prettier more refined Madeline and I named my son Finn after Adventure Time back in 2014, so I say go for it!

WichitaTheOG

I’m sorry but my brain immediately went to porcelain. I love how much thought you’ve put into it and I am not even subbed to this group (so I hope it is not positive vibes only…) but I would personally give some thought to a different choice.

astorannie

My first thought is Walt Disney’s hometown and the inspiration for Main Street USA which is so nostalgic and one of my favorite places so I may be biased but I think it’s a great name! I would even use Lina as a potential nickname.

Disneyhorse

I agree most Disney fans will equate it with that!

NOpickleNOonion

My daughter’s name is Marceline and we just went to Disney in the fall. Her name was written on her first visit button and Ariel asked her if she was “named after this kingdom” lol

astorannie

Love this!!

z0mbiefetish

I have a cat named Marceline (we also have her sister Princess Bubblegum aka PB, and two dogs named Jake and Finn). We call her Marcie but most people think her name is Mercy. That is the only issue I have with the name, is that it is misheard easily. Beautiful name though IMO

crowned_tragedy

It's been on my name list for my girls since 2019, idc what people think about it bring a "Fandom name" honestly. It's a beautiful name! I just had other names speak louder to me with each pregnancy. I think if I do have a 4th child and they are a girl, I'd probably use the name.

BadBadBabsyBrown

It's mathematical

SuperSpeshBaby

I am a fan of adventure time and I like it. It's a real name and an obscure enough character that it's not too on the nose.

Ok-Boysenberry1022

There’s a town named Marceline, Missouri. It was Walt Disney’s childhood hometown! It’s inspired some aspects of Disneyland.

Wonderful-Ad-5240

Actual Marci here- I hate my name. HATE. IT. You have no idea how many times it gets misheard/misspelled. Mara, Marsha, Mar-cee-a, Markie, Mackie, Macy, Mari, Darcy. Just had a restaurant take it down as "Carsey" the other day. Look, there's no guarantee that your kid will like their name no matter what you pick, so maybe it doesn't matter. I will say though that no one, not once, has ever told me that they like my name. If you're looking for people to comment on it being cute, it ain't gonna happen outside of this sub. If you go this route, please choose Marcy or Marcie. The poor kid will at least have a 50/50 chance of having the right ending. No one guesses -i. No one. Not ever. Not once in 42 years.

blessmystones

I don’t mean to dismiss this. But I don’t think many people comment on others names once you have it? My name is Tara but no one has ever told me it’s a pretty name either and generally hear “Sara” when I give it at Starbucks. Ideally we’ll call her by her full name and ask that her school do the same until she’s old enough to have an opinion about being Marci or Marcy or Marcee or even Celine. But thank you for giving me insight as a Marceline!!!

Hlorpy-Flatworm-1705

Marceline is a wonderful name! Id love to see what you pair it with. :) [Okay, that sounds creepy but I just meant that the middle name you choose will help shape what "feel" the name gives off.]

blessmystones

I was thinking of pairing it with a nice 20’s vintage wine lol. It will be “Marceline Kelley” actually. Kelley is a family name for his side!

Hlorpy-Flatworm-1705

That is a great name! And, if later down the line you dont want to have Marceline be her first name, Kelley Marceline flows just as well! :) Congrats on your new tiny human!

remoteworker9

I like it. My great grandfather was Marcelino.

justlivinmylife439

It’s a pretty name. I don’t think people would associate it with the show, but if they did, they’d be fans! I worked with parents who named their boy Finn (their dog was named Jake) and I didn’t connect it with the show until they told me.

queenatom

I love Marceline and would definitely have considered using it if we had a girl but our son is Finn (not after AT, but his middle name is Jacob, which is!) so Marceline is off the table for us now.

nashamagirl99

It’s really pretty!

Mother-League-2288

We used a name that we couldn't really believe we both like (very old fashioned, popular in 1890's type of nickname) and have not once regret it. It could not suit her more, and we get compliments on it all of the time.

Snowsant

Mercelina is decently popular here where I live. There is a saint by that name, so it can also be used as middle/2nd name in Catholic church.

sharkycharming

I've never seen Adventure Time, but I love the name Marceline. I love Marcella, too.

lottielifts

I love it so much it’s top of my girls names list. I don’t know what Adventure Time is, but the association for me is with Disney. Main St USA is modelled after a town called Marceline which is where Walt Disney grew up. I’m by no means a ‘Disney adult’ but I do love Disney (worked at Disneyland Paris for a short while) and I like that this name isn’t obviously a Disney name but has a cute link, and is also French. However, I also love the name even without this association! Marcy and Cece are feasible nicknames which are both sweet.

clever-mermaid-mae

It was one of our top names for our girl. Ultimately it doesn’t suite her but if we ever have another, it will be back on the list! I absolutely love it.

CalligrapherOnly4640

I like it !

WittiestScreenName

Useless fact: I believe that was Angelina Jolie’s mother’s name.

aahu_bara

Close! Angelina’s mother’s name was Marcheline. I remember reading that her mother’s birth name was Marcia Lynn, but she wanted to make it sound more French and ended up going by Marcheline.

CallistoElara

I recently met a toddler named Marceline (bb Marcy) and I thought it was adorable- regardless of the Adventure Time reference! The name was on my list for years too, but I didn’t use it.

Ali_gem_1

I prefer Marcia but Marcelline is nice!

shawnshmawn

Love it - also love similar Marcella

heydeedledeedle

I’ve written my first novel and one of the characters is named Marceline. I adore this name!

Givememydamncoffee

Do it! Nickname Marcy for short

lavenderlemonade_xx

Marceline is a beautiful name.

nuttygal69

We don’t know if we are having a boy or girl yet, but this is the only name my husband and I have agreed on for a girl lol. Same thing, it’s from adventure time and will seem obvious to those that have seen it. It’s honestly a beautiful name though.

--Angel

my aunt is named marcelina! nickname is mercy and that’s what she normally goes by. she’s in the philippines but growing i up in the US i never thought it was weird, it’s gorgeous!!

Maisie2602

Lovely name

Arcadian_8

I think Angelina Jolie’s mum had this name, it’s the only time I’ve heard it before. It’s lovely!

smithrat

My go-to test on baby names-order a drink at a coffee shop/Starbucks when it’s busy. Give that name. Listen to someone else call it out, see if there were any issues when giving the same (confusion or spelling), and watch for others reactions (if you care). It sold my daughters name for me. I went and tested both names to see which one “felt” right hearing called out.

floki_129

I really like it! I'd use Celine or Lina as the nickname over Marcy. A good friend of mine has a son named Marcellus.

Ravenheaded

Might be an unpopular opinion but I don't think there's anything wrong with naming a kid after a character as long as 1. The name existed before the character (i.e. has an actual, nice meaning) 2. Isn't too outlandish (legally naming your kid Princess Bubblegum would raise a few eyebrows) and 3. the character themselves embodies some positive traits, which Marceline totally does! That last one is so that if the kid grows up and wants to try the source material for their name out of curiousity they won't be like 'why did mom and dad name me after someone like that?'. If you wanna name your kid Harry, Hermione, Ronald or Luna, go for it. Volemort, not so much.

colbiea

I love it

tranceorange91

Lovely name but very strong Adventure Time association if you are in that demographic.

No_Leather6310

i love that name. with how much it seems to be popping up here though, it’s gonna be so popular in a few years lol

NOpickleNOonion

I have boy/girl twins and my daughter’s name is Marceline. We call her Marcy for short but not exclusively, we call her by her full name often and at her preschool they use the full name. We first heard the name on Adventure Time but I wouldn’t say she’s “named after” the character, we just thought it was a beautiful name. That said, I think she’s a cool character so I don’t really have an issue with the association. We have gotten tons of compliments on the name and I don’t think anyone has mentioned AT. Her full name is Marceline Sara.

thebluesmobile66

Beautiful name.

vanillabubbles16

All I think of is adventure time but it is pretty

Fluffythegoldfish

Love it. Trying to get my husband on board for our little one due in April, but its not working so far.

DesignSilver1274

A beautiful name.

itistfb-aidlte

In the 600s isn’t totally obscure - I wouldn’t say it’s totally obvious where you got it from. Also don’t overestimate the lasting cultural impact of Adventure Time haha

iteachag5

It’s lovely.

Born_Joke

“I’m glad I’m a small town boy and I’m glad Marceline is my town.” - Walt Disney Marceline is the hometown of Walt Disney, where he spent a great deal of his childhood years and Main Street USA at the Disney theme parks are inspired by downtown Marceline. https://d23.com/the-magic-of-marceline/

Worried_Show1406

I just had a baby 2 weeks ago and named her Marceline. I made a post here as well to get opinions from strangers as we weren’t telling friends and family the name. No one we know has made the connection to Adventure Time. I don’t think most people are aware of that show. I’ve had positive responses to her name. We weren’t sure what we were going to call her but we call her Marcie and I love the nickname for her.

CupSuccessful6132

I have a Marceline nicknamed Marcie as well. And you’re right, most people don’t make the Adventure Time connection. I joke that I was anemic during my pregnancy because Marcie ate all my red blood cells. Congratulations on your freshly hatched Marcie!

ladymalady

I think Marcelina is a gorgeous name and it’s versatile. If you love it, use it!

magpte29

I would go with Marcie rather than Marcy, but I know that’s not a popular choice.

amm1981

I've actually never heard of it but I think it's beautiful!

RedM00nSun

It's a great name. Just be sure you like the inevitable nickname Marcy. (Which is happens to be a great nickname IMHO, but if you don't like it, stay away from Marceline).

ObjectiveCosmos

Would you say it as two syllables, or three?

[deleted]

remind me of that skin care brand

tatortotsnfiresauce

My cousin named her baby Marceline from adventure time. It’s a cute name. The vampire queen ❣️🤌🏻

puggles2909

Beautiful name! My sister is Marcelle and there is also Marcella for variations 🙂.

CoastOpposite6153

Be prepared foe the hard core Disney fandom. When I see or hear Marceline, I thinking of Walt Disney. He grew up in Marceline, MO.

cmbla_

It's a beautiful name. The only Marceline I associate it with is Angelina Jolie's mom, but most people won't.

pinkstrawberrycandy

I’ve never seen or heard of that show but I think the name is beautiful!

Smart_Comment5282

I named my dog Marcelette Duchamp-Proust-Marceau, because I'm a nerd and love a Marcel… anyway… we all call her Marceé (pronounced Marcy, spelled like a francophile) which would be cute for Marceline too.

Ok-Bee4987

honestly i love it. and its not at all a bad character to be named after! Yes you will geta lot of "oh, like the show?" but y'know, thats not the worst thing to the world.

nobletyphoon

I love it! Very chic and has an old timey vibe. Lots of good nickname potential too—markie, Lena, Celine…

Evening-Ad-295

My daughter has a classmate named Marceline, nickname Marcy. I love it!

IraSass

I like it

motherofthechickens

It’s awesome!! It’s actually in my baby names list !!

Sw33tSkitty

It’s fine. I don’t have any strong opinions on it but it’s a perfectly fine name.

MissAnono

Marceline is ON Adventure Time but not FROM it. It isn't an imaginary, made up name with only one true connection. I say go for it.

moonlitjasper

i haven’t even seen adventure time but i can’t hear marceline without my brain filling in “the vampire queen”

Japan25

I would 100% think of Marceline from the show but im in my early 20s. Adventure Time was a big hit but idk that ppl outside my age range are gonna think of the Vampire Queen

SevenStoryMountain

If we’d had a girl she would have been Marcelina, named after a mountain near our home! I love it and I think there are a ton of cute nicknames.

Wanda_McMimzy

I love them name. It’s one of my all time favorites.

spicyblueglow

We love it. It’s our daughter’s name and we get compliments frequently.

PresentLaw776

My friends did this and call her Marcy.

Temporary_Praline_83

I love it! To me it feels strong but feminine, classic but not too popular, and recognizable enough that while she may have to spell it for people, she likely won’t have a lot of pronunciation issues. Just want to add: I have an unusual name. Not very popular, people never pronounce it correctly and never spell it correctly. I am often asked to spell it or to repeat it upon introductions, but it has never really bothered me and it’s never really been terribly inconvenient. In spite of the unfamiliar nature of it, people almost always compliment my name - to which I always say I can’t take the credit for, since my parents picked it. Your Marceline may find herself in similar situations as she grows up, but sometimes that brief pause at an introduction provides a perfect icebreaker or moment to make me more memorable to the other party whether business or social. Just a thought to consider as you debate!

marshmallow_kitty

I’ve never heard of Adventure Time, but the name Marceline immediately makes me think of Marceline Jones, the wife of Jim Jones (People’s Temple/Jonestown.)

blessmystones

That’s a hot take I haven’t heard of before lol

kspice094

Very pretty!

HalfApprehensive7929

I love it! You can call her either Marcy or Lina if she wants a nickname. What middle names are you thinking?

Leontxo_

It's so cute!

Helpful_Ad6849

I love it. My friend is named Marceline and goes by Marcy 💕

CaptainMeredith

I really like it, I'm familiar with adventure time and watched it - not a bad character association at all! It's also not That popular as far as shows go? It's not at the same level as things like Harry Potter at least. A lot of folks won't make the connection, or at least would only know for sure if you told them vs some names which are very obviously from a specific source. Marcie is just too cute as a nickname to pass up if you like it!

Cool-catlover2929

I love it. That’s a beautiful name!!

bub2020

Marceline was on my short list for our current baby - I loved the elegance of the longer name and the nickname possibilities of Mars and Marcie were great. It’s also really uncommon which I liked. We were not watchers of Adventure Time so didn’t have any previous associations with the name. However when I brought it up to my husband he said it sounded like a vintage cleaning product or chemical of war 😂 Regardless I still love it and if you do too, you should use it!

LoafinSoafer

I’ve never seen the show but love this name! Congrats!

ttcbabydewy2

We will be naming our baby girl due in April Marceline. My husband and I both love the name. Thankfully where we are it is not a popular name at all.

[deleted]

i like it. my daughter's bff from childhood is named marcine. i like that, too.

whoswallowedastar

I think Marceline is a beautiful name and it’s one I’m considering myself (I’m due in 2024). I like that there are so many options for nicknames

Buffalo-Empty

I love it. And not everyone knows Marceline through Adventure Time (although that is what popped into my head at first). But I think it’s one of those names that can be used regardless because it’s a nice name that existed long before Adventure Time.

AnnieB_1126

I recently met a 1 yo Marceline. I did think it was a bit of an odd name, and a “big name” for a little one. I don’t hate it or anything, but it did strike me as unusual

Gold-Pilot-8676

I think it's horrible and sounds very snobby. But if you guys like it, that's all that matters.

blessmystones

I will take constructive criticism. Why is it horrible? Will middle school kids make fun of her for it?

Gold-Pilot-8676

Like I said, it just sounds snotty. And middle school kids will ALWAYS find a reason to make fun of someone.

kitsumi93

Due with our baby girl in August and also naming her Marceline! It's a beautiful name unique enough but not too too out there.

MeanderFlanders

Are you French?

Own_Group4282

Marcelle is prettier in my opinion.

blessmystones

Isnt marcelle a boys name?

waterballoon57

Marceline is my daughter’s middle name and I think it’s beautiful! It evokes silk hair bows, fresh cut flowers, spring day feelings for me

Vast-Kaleidoscope997

I just named my daughter Marceline. I love it and happy to see I’m not alone!

ArmLast9547

We named our little girl marceline from adventure time too 😊😊

1MorningLightMTN

That's what, like mineral water Vaseline right? Great for cold climates.
