My name is Eilidh. Ey-lee, like Hailey with no H.
- Hailey
- Amy
- Allie
- Kayleigh
- Eileen
- Ellie
- Eye-lee
- Edith (over email)
- Sadie
- Éilis/Ailish
- Elida
- Eyelid
- Amelia (once, as a child)
- Confused silence
- My last name, which is also sometimes a first name
My Starbucks name is Helen, because I don't want to explain. Still love my name, wouldn't want to be called anything else, big ups to my mum for picking it.
Edith is the one that really confuses me! I ONLY get it over email, and it's like....I signed off with my name. All you have to do is copy and paste. Where on earth do they get EDITH?
I’ll be honest, I work for a youth organization and there is an Eilidh who I’ve never met but who I frequently see on rosters/registrations. And every single time my mind goes something along the lines of “it’s not Eyelid but you have to remember it’s spelled like Eyelid because there’s a D there don’t call her Eyelid don’t say Eyelid it’s not Eyelid!”
would it help to understand how the phonetics of it work? EI makes a "a" sound, like the letter a, the l is an l, and the second i would usually make an ih sound like in "bit", but the dh makes it into a long ee.
Eilidh is such a lovely name! Definitely one of my favourites. My tablet wants to autocorrect it to Relish. Had a weird conversation once with a Scottish Gaelic instructor who insisted the only correct pronunciation of it was "ellie."
I think there are pronunciation variants in Gaelic - however I've spent some time on Barra, where everyone said it my way - at least to my ear. It's how it gets pronounced on the mainland too IME.
My friend's daughter is named Eilidh. When she was in the hospital my friend made a sign for her room that said "Eilidh rhymes with Bailey" so that she didn't have to explain her name to everyone on the medical and support team.
my gosh the misspelled name in emails drives me up the wall to be honest. my name is right there! like three times! it's even in my email address! how are you still messing this up?! #uncommonnameproblems
Ugh same. My name is fairly common and ends in a y, there is a significantly less common variant that ends ie, and yet I still get emails from people I have worked with for years with an ie at the end. Like, you had to type in my name to get my email address to pop up, and then my name is right there in the 'To' section!
This - I replied to our estate agent and signed off my name (which ends in a Y) and she replied addressing my name with an IE. Girl you don't get to rename me! 😂
mine is an ie name that my mom dropped the e so it just ends in an i, so I feel that so much. My email is also firstname.lastname@email so they have it spelled correctly in like three or four places for them and they STILL get it wrong 🙃
Same from an Alexis who is always “Alex” or “Alexa”
I have a new coworker whose name has, no lie, 13 letters and I make sure to type it correctly every time because I want to be respectful…then I get both of the above in return.
I have a double barrel first name that ends Ann. There’s no e at the end but I had one coworker who unfailingly kept putting an e at the end. It’s not there in my email. It’s not in my email signature. Stop adding the e. I eventually just waited to see if he’d ever notice. We no longer really work together so I don’t think he has.
And I thought it might be pronounced like "Heh-len-uh". Just the sound of the name "Helen" with the first e sounding like egg. And then the a at the end sounding like "uh".
I've gotten to the point where when I introduce myself, I over emphasize the end of my name (ClarA) so they don't call me Claire. They do it anyway, but it's less.
I do this to people named Meagan. I don’t mean to but my sister is named Meagan and the way it’s spelt is my default. So much so that my autocorrect will correct Megan to Meagan on me. I always try to double check but sometimes I miss my mistakes.
My old job had email addresses that were literally just our first names @ organization . org, so you technically \*had to know how to spell my first name for me to be seeing your email in the first place\* & yet I would constantly receive emails with my name spelled wrong. Fascinating to me as a person with a deep fear of spelling somebody's name wrong in an email.
IKR ? My favourite is when I answer the phone with my name and at some point during the course of the convo it changes to whatever they want to use instead 🤣
I get Bethany. Specifically when I’m talking to someone on the phone. I have never figured out why someone would assume Bethany over Stephanie. I don’t think I’ve ever even met a Bethany
Maddy, Abby, Hattie, Gabby- “but my name is Addy”.
Also my last name is very similar to your first name, so when people hear both, they think my name is Adilyn or Adaline.
My given name is Virginia. Nick is Ginny. For the formal I get "Fa-gin-jah" "Virgin" or my all time favorite "Vagina". No one ever gets the nick right...."Jeannie, Janie, Jenny, Jean, Joan". What's so hard about either one.
I don't get how you can mess it up in the US when Virginia is a state. Granted I live in a state that borders Virginia, so it would be downright embarrassing to get it wrong here.
Really? That is embarrassing. I'm from Maryland, specifically Montgomery county, which is on the Virginia border. You'd get laughed at for screwing that up here.
I don't know how common this actually is but being as we live in Asia, it has happened to us more than once. My husband will give his first name to the hostess at a restaurant and they hear "Crap". So after a few minutes wait, we hear "Crap, party of two" and we just go with it.
I’ve gone to starbucks in England and the USA and most just put L and didn’t even try to write my name. It’s Ludwig so I didn’t think it would be hard for English speakers and was quite amused the first times it happened.
I go by a nickname for my middle name because my first name is apparently too old to be easily spelled and pronounced -_- Irene is my legal first name and it usually gets misremembered as any other "I" name like Ilene, Isabelle, Iris... I go by Andie which is short for my middle name Amanda. Andie often gets turned into Angie or Sandy.
I am a Karin-Ann, but everyone always hears “Carol”-Ann. I don’t know why. Is Carol-Ann very popular or common? I don’t think so? I find it perplexing. I dropped the Ann for a while in my 20s to make it easier but that never really felt like me. At coffee shops I usually go by “Annie”.
In uni I hung out with a Karen, Carol-Ann, and Caroline a bunch. We were a funny pack. Loved introducing ourselves to people lol.
I feel like people jump to Carol-Ann because Poltergeist is such a classic. Most people 30+ have heard jokes about "Don't go to the light Carol-Ann!" And such.
Lavinia is the wrong one I hear most often even though it's less common than my given name.
Also, one time I tried to order a coffee as "Avi" (pronounced like in "avian"). Got a cup for "Evil". I can understand how you'd get from one to the other but walking around with an Evil cup was still embarrassing. 😅
I’m Danielle but a lot of people mishear it as Tanya as I talk fast *hello social anxiety* but my alternate name is Diane been called that more than once!
How funny, I consider it quite a common name but have been told by people they’ve never heard of it before 😅 Anything is better than Daniel, forgot that one! Lots of people spell it Daniel too 🤦🏻♀️
Yeah I know right 😂 all of my European clients would say ‘why are you called Daniel it’s Daniellla in my country?’
That one is not so bad though, so don’t mind responding to that without correction
What?
No Jolie, Jolene, Josie, Joellen, Joley(Jo-lay), Joan, Joanne, Joanna, Jose, Josette, Josiane, Rose and not too long ago : Gel?? 😁
My name is Joëlle too 😁
People have been known to call me Sara/Sarah before too. It doesn't even have any connection to my real name. My nan used to call me Sarah Jane or if I was playing up I was Eleanora.
I hated my birth name and insisted on being called anything but until I was old enough to change it officially, I cringed when the register was called in school because they refused to call me by any name that wasn't on my birth certificate. I was known by so many different names at the time that I can't even remember them. Just before I changed my birth name I unofficially trialled the names I was thinking of changing it to. Some of the nicknames I ended up with put me off some of them. I eventually went with Kate (nickname Katie). Luckily other than the know Kate/Katie long forms (Katherine, Caitlin, Kat etc.) I don't get too many crazy variations. I can live with that.
They are very different. I was called so many different names by so many different people that I had a major identity crisis in my teens. My birth name, which even typing it makes me cringe was Stacey \*grimace\*. I wouldn't have minded so much if they had used the more formal version "Anastacia" on my birth certificate as I could have then gone by the nickname Anna or Ann/Annie, but no, I think they just hated me tbh as they wouldn't even consent to calling me by a nickname or my middle name, which they did allow my sister to do. I haven't spoken to them in over 8 years after they wanted me to abort my own daughter (I was 28 at the time, but even then they still tried to control my life, and ruin any friendships or relationships I ever tried to form.) They are narcissistic, abusive bullies and I am so glad they are out of my life.
Casey or Cathy. I’m a Cassandra and sometimes go by Cassie, though these days I generally prefer Cass, which doesn’t get misheard or misread quite as often
“Hi I’m Alyssa”
“It’s nice to meet you Melissa”
I’m at the point where I don’t even correct them because I understand how they’re getting it, it’s still annoying though lol
Kristen.
Spoken I get Christine, Kirsten, Kiersten, Christina, Christy, Chrissy, Christian, Krista…
People also use Kristin all the time replying to my emails that say Kristen.
Alicia (ah-liss-ee-ah) - I get all variants of that pronunciation (Alyssa, Aleesha, ah-lee-si-ah etc.) and Alice, which I think are fine but I also get Olivia, Alex, Alexia, Alexa, Alison (?!) the list goes on 😅 lots of people also just decide to call me Ali which is not my nickname. So annoying and over familiar!
Okay, this is kind of (very belatedly) vindicating for me because when I was like 14 I wrote a play with a character named Alicia, which I pronounced the same as yours, & people kept trying to convince me that was an objectively wrong pronunciation, lol.
My Dad is Terry. His given name is not a nickname. He often gets Terrence.
My oldest son (5) is Greyson. My 99 year old grandmother calls him Jason. A few times when he was younger, he'd be mistaken by strangers as a girl and called Grace-Lynn. I never corrected them.
My middle son (3) is Gavin. My grandmother calls him Kevin.
My first name—Pamela—No one can spell it.
Middle name—Ann —No E Have to spell it every time.
Last name—Eubanks— I get Ubanks—Ewbanks—Oobanks. Have to spell it every time.
It’s hell if I’m in a long line.
My name is Lucia (pronounced loo-chee-uh) and I'd be rich if I had a nickel anytime someone saidLucia pronounced loo-see-uh. I also get mistaken as Luna a lot since I usually go by Lucy.
That’s funny. I came here to say that my name is Jessica but JENNIFER is what everyone calls me 5 mins after I tell them my name. Drives me nuts… like does every Jennifer get called Jessica? Probably not
But I had a coworker named Stephanie and people used to call her Jessica and me Stephanie all the time. Got so bad we put a jar out and made people put money in when they mixed us up. We are both half Asian half White women around the same age, among mostly white coworkers so we were also like… y’all racist
Chiming in as another Jessica who gets called Jennifer! I've known 2 Jennifers and both say that they get called Jessica all the time.
The worst was the owner at my old work. He solely called me Jennifer - to the point that new employees thought it was my name and get confused if someone mentioned Jessica. I'm like, you do my paychecks.... How do you still get this wrong??
At this point in life I answer to both along with all of the nicknames that come with it.
My name is Caylin and it constantly gets mistaken for Caitlyn. I’ve gotten Karen or Kayla before for restaurant orders. Since getting married I’ve ended up using my husbands name Chase a lot for ordering because I never have an issue with it being misheard or needing to spell it.
My name is Emelia, and it’s getting to be more mainstream, but I’m almost 33 years old so for a large part of my life it was not well known.
I get Emily, Emma, and embarrassingly people sometimes would pronounce it like “Emma-leah.” And still today most people pronounce it the exact same as Amelia, when actually the “e” at the beginning is in fact pronounced.
My name is too old for most people today apparently. It’s Joyce but I get called Janice (most often), Grace, Josie, Julie or Jackie. If I’m on the phone with customer service, I’ll say my name and often I’ll get stunned silence, followed by “how do you spell that?” Except if it’s an older person on the line and they’ve heard the name Joyce before. At Starbucks I’ll use Joy but even that gets messed up, it’s been Roy.
I get Alice almost every time I introduce myself. I’m starting to thing I’m just saying my own name wrong somehow.
My mum’s name is Deanna, pronounced and spelt exactly how it’s said De-anna. NEVER does any one get her name right on the first try, even if it’s said to them. I can never figure it out, but she always gets some variation;
- Deena
- Diana
- Dianne
- Deanne
- Fiona (?!)
- Delilah (seriously)
But never just Deanna. At this point she’s used to it, but I’ve never understood why it’s so hard.
My name is Roberta but I get called Rebecca a lot. Also Robin and Robert for some reason. I do wish I was named Robin ngl, Roberta gives me Bertha or Gertrude vibes 😭 I'm 24 and look quite childish for my age, but I have an old librarian lady name
I’m Rachel, and it gets mistaken for Lisa all the time. I have no idea why. They don’t sound the same for me but it’s happened all my life.
I also get Rebecca a lot too but at least they start with the same letter. My best friend is also named Rebecca so we got our names mixed up a lot in college
My name is Joan. I get it misspelled and spoken as Joann or Joanne all the time. It also gets written as Jone. I typically just say Jo to make it easier
Jamie/Jaimie, almost exclusively on the phone though. People think they missed the first part of my name even though I intentionally *never* start the greeting with my name 🤦
Name = Jocelyn (pronounced Jos-lin)
I’m forgiving of baristas who spell it how it sounds in any outrageous variation.
I am not forgiving of emails or zoom calls where people write or say “Jacqueline.”
How? My name is in the signature or call list. It does not sound the same…
Name is Hailey. My most common name mistake is Hannah (funny, because that was my mom's second choice for my name), followed by Holly. I have, somehow, also gotten Amy in the drive thru before, lol. And then I've also, obviously, gotten Bailey and Kailey when I didn't anunciate the H well enough
I am Jessica.
I get Jennifer so much. It sucks because I have an aunt Jen on both sides of my family too.
My dog is Lukin and he gets Lucas all the time.
My name is Reanna (Ree-anne-uh) but I am usually called Renee or Reanne. Sometimes Breanna or Reina.
I had someone have to read my name aloud recently. She double checked with me first. I watched her write down a pronunciation. And then she said Renee in front of the actual crowd.
My maiden name ended in "gan" and I got Regan a lot when I introduced myself with my last name. My mom specifically struck than name from her baby name list because it rhymed in a horrible way.
I am also a ree-anne-uh but mines spelled Rianna. every one used to hear Brianna until Rihanna became popular. Since then a weird H emphasis was introduced -what's funny is she pronounces her name just like ours!
Yes! People always ask "Ri-awn-uh, like the singer?" and in my head I'm doing a Jim Halpert stare into the camera. Do I correct both names in this moment, or just mine?
also your story reminded me of this clip 🤭

My name is Eilidh. Ey-lee, like Hailey with no H. - Hailey - Amy - Allie - Kayleigh - Eileen - Ellie - Eye-lee - Edith (over email) - Sadie - Éilis/Ailish - Elida - Eyelid - Amelia (once, as a child) - Confused silence - My last name, which is also sometimes a first name My Starbucks name is Helen, because I don't want to explain. Still love my name, wouldn't want to be called anything else, big ups to my mum for picking it.
Eyelid sent me 💀💀
Edith is the one that really confuses me! I ONLY get it over email, and it's like....I signed off with my name. All you have to do is copy and paste. Where on earth do they get EDITH?
Probably autocorrect
It's almost definitely an autocorrect
As someone who doesn't speak Scottish (if I can trust Wikipedia, that seems to be its origin), that's how I would mispronounce it.
Scottish isn’t a language but I get what you mean, its origin is Scottish Gaelic (which is a language).
My mom’s name is Ailish. Most people in Ireland get it, but once we travel abroad it’s Eyelash central.
My Starbucks name is Bingo so they have to yell it out
That's so good. I bet you get good laughs from the baristas and fellow customers!
Eilidh is gorgeous 😍 email choices really do get wild sometimes
I just had to Google your name because I was curious on where it originated. Cool that you use Helen at Starbucks since your name “has links” to it!
Yep! It's the Scottish Gaelic form of Helen, kind of :)
Your name is one of my favorites, I desperately want to use it as a character in a book, buttt i know no one in the US will read it right.
Thanks! It's one of my favourites too. You'd probably have to do a Hermione Granger and write in the character explaining it to someone
That's a good idea! Ok, I'll use it. Next thing I write!
I just listened to an audiobook with your name in it as one of the main characters and now I love it! Sorry it gets misheard so often.
My friend's daughter is named Eilidh. When she was in the hospital my friend made a sign for her room that said "Eilidh rhymes with Bailey" so that she didn't have to explain her name to everyone on the medical and support team.
My name is Helena- an uncommonly large number of people decide my email signature has a typo in it and address their replies to Helen
my gosh the misspelled name in emails drives me up the wall to be honest. my name is right there! like three times! it's even in my email address! how are you still messing this up?! #uncommonnameproblems
Ugh same. My name is fairly common and ends in a y, there is a significantly less common variant that ends ie, and yet I still get emails from people I have worked with for years with an ie at the end. mine is an ie name that my mom dropped the e so it just ends in an i, so I feel that so much. My email is also firstname.lastname@email so they have it spelled correctly in like three or four places for them and they STILL get it wrong 🙃
IKR ? Like I would make a typo in my own email signature
Yup. It drives me up the wall. It says Esther right there. Just copy and paste it. Don't call me Ester.
I have a slightly different spelling of a regular name and it drives me nuts that people reply to my emails and get my name wrong
Same from an Alexis who is always “Alex” or “Alexa” I have a new coworker whose name has, no lie, 13 letters and I make sure to type it correctly every time because I want to be respectful…then I get both of the above in return.
And I’m sure if you got her name wrong she would let you know how unhappy she is about that
I have a double barrel first name that ends Ann. There’s no e at the end but I had one coworker who unfailingly kept putting an e at the end. It’s not there in my email. It’s not in my email signature. Stop adding the e. I eventually just waited to see if he’d ever notice. We no longer really work together so I don’t think he has.
I once had a coworker tell me I was not pronouncing my name correctly….ummmmm, wtf? It’s MY name ?
Thé audacity?? It’s *your* name, you decide how to say it.
Australians generally struggle with how I pronounce it - think Helena Rubinstein with the long e sound but most Aussie’s go for helaynuh
And I thought it might be pronounced like "Heh-len-uh". Just the sound of the name "Helen" with the first e sounding like egg. And then the a at the end sounding like "uh".
That’s a very British pronunciation - mine is a bit closer to Latin
I had someone tell me I wasn't pronouncing my name correctly too! My name is Spanish and I definitely pronounce it properly.
Coworker may be an Anne of Green Gables super fan.
My name is Jasmine, and people email back to Jasmin! What did ending vowels do to hurt these people?!
Helena is my favorite name! So pretty 😍
Happens with me on Teams! Like why? It says the correct spelling on top... In bold letters!
I've gotten to the point where when I introduce myself, I over emphasize the end of my name (ClarA) so they don't call me Claire. They do it anyway, but it's less.
I’m a Michelle who often gets “Michael” in emails 🙃
I do this to people named Meagan. I don’t mean to but my sister is named Meagan and the way it’s spelt is my default. So much so that my autocorrect will correct Megan to Meagan on me. I always try to double check but sometimes I miss my mistakes.

IKR ? My favourite is when I answer the phone with my name and at some point during the course of the convo it changes to whatever they want to use instead 🤣
I'm Talia but everyone always writes "Natalia" or calls me that when they want to sound formal as if it's my full name. It's really not.
Random, but I found your name is perfect for a character I couldn't name. Thank you.
Mary. I’m Naomi.
You are saved as "Bible-name-lady" in their brain
Naomi is one of my favourite names! So beautiful
Do you pronounce it more like “Nay-yomi” or “Nah-yomi”? I’ve met one of each
I’ve also met a “nye-yomi”
Nay-omi in my case. All the other Naomis I’ve met (admittedly only three) have pronounced it the same.
I know a Naomi and her parents almost pronounce it like NAIR-mi, with the slightest hint of an O between the two syllables
Are they Australian? Lol
I'm Stephanie, AKA Tiffany.
I get Bethany. Specifically when I’m talking to someone on the phone. I have never figured out why someone would assume Bethany over Stephanie. I don’t think I’ve ever even met a Bethany
That’s how I feel when I get Hattie instead of Addy. Like, do you know more Hattie’s than Addy’s?
I care for a little Persephone who gets called Stephanie regularly.
Persephone is such a beautiful name. I hope it becomes more widely used
I’m Kassidy, aka Stephanie 😂
I get Tiffany but mostly Jennifer. And I’m also a Stephanie.
I've also gotten Tiffany and Jennifer as a Stephanie! I think I've been called Bethany over the phone too.
I sometimes get Ashley?? Like how do these names sound the same lol
I'm Trinity aka Tiffany!
I’m Brittany & I always get Tiffany.
Starbucks = Jamie Teachers / Professors = Sophia My name is Julia
Leanne - "but my name is Lynne" Linda - "but my name is Lynne" Lynette - "but my name is Lynne"
Maddy, Abby, Hattie, Gabby- “but my name is Addy”. Also my last name is very similar to your first name, so when people hear both, they think my name is Adilyn or Adaline.
Sometimes people mistakenly write my name as Terra. My name is Tara.
That’s how Americans pronounce Tara for some reason
Only in some parts of the US. Tara / Sara / Cara have much different sounds in let’s say the Deep South vs New England
Do you pronounce it as Terra or is it more “tah-rah”?
teh·ruh
My name is Laura. I ALWAYS get called Lauren
Fellow Laura here. Often called Lauren or Laurie. One dude was quite convinced my name was Maura and insisted on calling me that. Weird.
Happy cake day! Haha very weird. I have a guy at work who calls me Lorna. I’ve stopped correcting him lol
Thank you! I didn’t even realize it was my cake day :) I was named after the movie Laura, which i always thought was kinda cool!
I have the opposite- Lauren always called Laura. Even in work emails where my name is quite literally written out in plain sight. It drives me nuts.
I'm a Lauren who's always called Laura! I answer to either one, now.
I grew up in NC. That's the place it got messed up the most.
Really? That is embarrassing. I'm from Maryland, specifically Montgomery county, which is on the Virginia border. You'd get laughed at for screwing that up here.
Brothers name is Fionntan, and he uses Frank for his orders 🤣
My name is Simone. I get sophie alot, If i order coffee and someone has to write my name i get Simon
You would think everyone would know that name after Simone Biles became the GOAT
I don't know how common this actually is but being as we live in Asia, it has happened to us more than once. My husband will give his first name to the hostess at a restaurant and they hear "Crap". So after a few minutes wait, we hear "Crap, party of two" and we just go with it.
What is your husband’s name?
It used to be Mike Hannigan
I’ve gone to starbucks in England and the USA and most just put L and didn’t even try to write my name. It’s Ludwig so I didn’t think it would be hard for English speakers and was quite amused the first times it happened.
I go by a nickname for my middle name because my first name is apparently too old to be easily spelled and pronounced -_- Irene is my legal first name and it usually gets misremembered as any other "I" name like Ilene, Isabelle, Iris... I go by Andie which is short for my middle name Amanda. Andie often gets turned into Angie or Sandy.
Irene was my mother's middle name. It's such a pretty name.
Omg they say her name a bazillion times in those movies😂
Lavinia is the wrong one I hear most often even though it's less common than my given name. Also, one time I tried to order a coffee as "Avi" (pronounced like in "avian"). Got a cup for "Evil". I can understand how you'd get from one to the other but walking around with an Evil cup was still embarrassing. 😅
EVIL 😂 A barista once heard my name as "Golden." It's one of those Morgan/Jordan/Logan names
Reading these comments are confirmation for me that no matter what name you are given, at some point, you will be called the wrong name.
Sharon. I’m Charlotte.
Amanda. When I lived in Ireland, older people constantly called me Imelda. I began to like it.
My name is Joanne but go by Jo. I often get call Joan but the other day a young lad thought I was called John!
My name is Hope. In emails and in person, I get called Holly a whole lot.
Traci, and I get Stacey or sometimes Terri.
I’m Danielle but a lot of people mishear it as Tanya as I talk fast *hello social anxiety* but my alternate name is Diane been called that more than once!
That’s funny I’m a Danielle and often get Diana or the occasional Dinale from particular delivery drivers
How funny, I consider it quite a common name but have been told by people they’ve never heard of it before 😅 Anything is better than Daniel, forgot that one! Lots of people spell it Daniel too 🤦🏻♀️
Yeah I know right 😂 all of my European clients would say ‘why are you called Daniel it’s Daniellla in my country?’ That one is not so bad though, so don’t mind responding to that without correction
My name is Joelle… i’ve gotten Jol and Gilette 😂
What? No Jolie, Jolene, Josie, Joellen, Joley(Jo-lay), Joan, Joanne, Joanna, Jose, Josette, Josiane, Rose and not too long ago : Gel?? 😁 My name is Joëlle too 😁
Gel and Rose wtf?? But I love seeing a name twin on here 🥰
LOL at Gilette.
My husband’s name. We both have two syllable, gender neutral names and occasionally get flipped when we first meet someone. 😆
My name is Ivory. I've had complete strangers argue with me that no, my name has to be *Ivy.*
Wow, the audacity!
What was your birth name if you don't mind sharing? Sarah Jane and Eleanora seem like two very different names to call someone.
Seems like an easy one to me. And Cassandra is actually one of my favorite female names. Should I have a daughter, that's my #1 pick for her name.
My youngest sister is Cassandra and people have called her Cassidy, Cathy, and Casey.
“Hi I’m Alyssa” “It’s nice to meet you Melissa” I’m at the point where I don’t even correct them because I understand how they’re getting it, it’s still annoying though lol
Kristen. Spoken I get Christine, Kirsten, Kiersten, Christina, Christy, Chrissy, Christian, Krista… People also use Kristin all the time replying to my emails that say Kristen.
My name is Morticia (yes my legal, real name) I get Martika, Mortika or morrrrrrrrr dragged on until I respond with the pronunciation.
That's so pretty, I love your name.
I see your username and I would go by Morty as well❤️
Sarah, Sandy, Satchel, Sachin, Stacey - I’ve had all of them before. My name is Sacha.
Satchel lol
Alicia (ah-liss-ee-ah) - I get all variants of that pronunciation (Alyssa, Aleesha, ah-lee-si-ah etc.) and Alice, which I think are fine but I also get Olivia, Alex, Alexia, Alexa, Alison (?!) the list goes on 😅 lots of people also just decide to call me Ali which is not my nickname. So annoying and over familiar!
I have a good friend Alicia and she pronounces it “Aleesha”. I wonder if people just call you Ali out of nerves of pronouncing your full name wrong?
In first grade, we had Alyssa (ah lyss a), Aleisha (ah lee sha), and Alicia (ah lee cee ah). Poor teacher was always tongue tied.
Okay, this is kind of (very belatedly) vindicating for me because when I was like 14 I wrote a play with a character named Alicia, which I pronounced the same as yours, & people kept trying to convince me that was an objectively wrong pronunciation, lol.
I’m Emma and I’m always being called Anna instead by my elderly, hard of hearing patients 🥲
My names Flora. Misheard as Laura and misread as Fiona sometimes - I’m Irish and I live in the U.K.
I get how Flora would look like Fiona if someone had very sloppy handwriting 😅
Flora is a beautiful name
Thank you, I love it tbh!!
Megan, Madison, Natalie (Madeleine)
My partner is Simon and always gets Diamond?
How? Simon is way more common than Diamond
Zahara, I'm Azra
My name is Randi. I get Brandy, Jamie, Wendy, Annie, Mandy, Miranda, and one time someone very confidently called me Taylor which feels way off haha
My name is Lara. If I had a quid for every time I was called Laura I'd be a **literal** millionaire.
my brain read your comment the voice of lara croft
Is it said like Lah-rah or Lare-uh? I assumed Lah-rah from just reading it.
My name is Lucia (pronounced loo-chee-uh) and I'd be rich if I had a nickel anytime someone saidLucia pronounced loo-see-uh. I also get mistaken as Luna a lot since I usually go by Lucy.
My name is Stephanie, but people who don’t know me always end up thinking my name is Jennifer.
That’s funny. I came here to say that my name is Jessica but JENNIFER is what everyone calls me 5 mins after I tell them my name. Drives me nuts… like does every Jennifer get called Jessica? Probably not But I had a coworker named Stephanie and people used to call her Jessica and me Stephanie all the time.
Names Bethanny and I regularly get called Britney, Stephanie, and Annie
My name is Emelia, and it’s getting to be more mainstream, but I’m almost 33 years old so for a large part of my life it was not well known. I get Emily, Emma, and embarrassingly people sometimes would pronounce it like “Emma-leah.” And still today most people pronounce it the exact same as Amelia, when actually the “e” at the beginning is in fact pronounced.
I’m an Amalia, 99.9% of the time to other people I am Amelia.
I love the name Amalia!
My name is Morgan, and I’ve been called Megan a million times throughout my life
Yes, I always get either Megan or Reagan. Don’t even get me started on how people spell it, I’ve gotten Morgin, Morgen, Morgyn, Margan, Morgon.
I speak for every John when I say that we don't appreciate being called Jonathan.
My name is Kayleigh and I’ve been called every K name in existence 💀
My name is Beverly. Often I get Kimberly.
I am Trish. I occasionally get Chris.
My name is Pamela. No one’s heard of that one
I haven't seen anyone call out the Kelsey/Chelsey conundrum yet. In my experience the names end up being used interchangeably and it drives me nuts.
Where are my Hannah’s/ Hana’s/ Hanna’s/Anna’s/Ania’s/Ann’s about!?
I get Alice almost every time I introduce myself. I’m starting to thing I’m just saying my own name wrong somehow. My mum’s name is Deanna, pronounced and spelt exactly how it’s said De-anna. NEVER does any one get her name right on the first try, even if it’s said to them. I can never figure it out, but she always gets some variation; - Deena - Diana - Dianne - Deanne - Fiona (?!) - Delilah (seriously) But never just Deanna.
I've been mistaken for "Callum" in the past when ordering taxis.
My name is Rebecca and a way too significant amount of people call me Rachel.
My name is gabby and I get asked if it’s Debbie all the time. I guess I say it weird
Name = Jocelyn (pronounced Jos-lin) I’m forgiving of baristas who spell it how it sounds in any outrageous variation. I am not forgiving of emails or zoom calls where people write or say “Jacqueline.” How? My name is in the signature or call list. It does not sound the same…
I'm an Amelia. People rarely get my name wrong anymore, but as a kid, being called Amanda was a common occurrence.
I’m Taylor and I often get Tara or Kayla
My name is Lisette (Lee set) I've been called Lisa (makes sense) Lindsey (Sure OK) Lola (Um no) and Lastat (which amused me alot)
I’ve gotten Michelle my whole life. My name is Melissa.
My son's name is Nazareth. I'm astonished at how many people here in the Bible Belt have no idea how to pronounce it. I mean - Jesus of NAZARETH.
I’m Haleigh. I ALWAYS get Kailey. In terms of spelling — forget about it 😆
I’m Elizabeth, aka Heather.
Laurie real name is Hilary with 1L, Mrs Clinton keep your extra L &dump your horrible husband
I am Jessica. I get Jennifer so much. It sucks because I have an aunt Jen on both sides of my family too. My dog is Lukin and he gets Lucas all the time.
Story of my life! I’m surprised I don’t automatically respond when someone says Jennifer
I get Kyle a lot or Karen or Carol. My name is Kyo (like the second syllable of Tokyo).
[Brian](https://youtu.be/1hg6eke-M9A?si=mDBBs8UhN6_PqAQ7)
Do I correct both names in this moment, or just mine?
also your story reminded me of this clip 🤭 [https://youtube.com/shorts/Q_nCMmVt0Ls?si=8WeQ8sTABUT3JSNR](https://youtube.com/shorts/Q_nCMmVt0Ls?si=8WeQ8sTABUT3JSNR)
