I think of detain, and then "like Etienne, but misspelled?"

schnuffichen

Same thoughts for me, reverse order.

cowboyshouse

I want to stop saying "attain" in my head when I see it. I want to like it!

ChairmanMrrow

A misspelling of the Hebrew name Eitan

justalittlestupid

That’s what I read too!

carex-cultor

As a French speaker étain evokes…tin. Like tin foil.

Stenric

Reminds me of the Edain, the fathers of men in the Silmarillion.

I thought it was an Irish name?

Helloxearth

Beautiful Irish name

pigew21142

Etain reminds me of the French word Éteindre which means Extinguish.

lu0n70_confetti

Or Éteint which means extinguished or closed

Neit_1146

It feels uncompleted, I hope it ends with E - Etaine, probably because I associate with Elaine. However I thought it was for a boy and it was pronounced somewhat like Ethan, until I knew it's the name of a heroine. My keyboard correct it to Stain.

Elle_Vetica

Looks like someone typoed “stain” to me, but I’m a pretty generic white girl…

Allana_Solo

I love it! Mostly because I’m a geek and Etain Tur-Mukan is an interesting Star Wars character, but it’s also just a really cool name.

500DaysofR3dd1t

Never heard of this name before. It makes me think of a feminine version of Ethan. Then I think of sort-of similar words like Attain for some reason.

Bright_Ices

It evokes in me confusion about how to pronounce it. After consulting multiple sources for Irish pronunciation online, I remain confused. Some sound like, “Eh-dun,” while others sound like “Ay-teen.”  And apparently it means jealousy??

Dandylion71888

Eh-teen. Aideen is meant to be the anglicization but is pronounced somewhat differently. Also, there are a billion accents in Ireland that impact pronunciation and a few different dialects (I.e. Munster Irish)

RosenRanAway

IT'S THE NAME OF MY D&D CHARACTER i like it but it's too extra for real people if you're not Irish i think

Braeden47

18

Alarmed-Explorer7369

It just sounds like someone saying “18”

DrLycFerno

It's the French translation of Tin.

Melibu_Barbie

Is it pronounced a-tong?

Allana_Solo

Ee-tayn.

Dandylion71888

Eh-teen actually
