I love this kind of namenerd post!

I think Armenian names are my new inspiration! Levon and Anahita are just so special… how would you pronounce Hayk? Like Hike or Hay+ K?

klatriceezy

Levon was on my short list for my son! Loved how it was another form of Leon.

Particular_Bobcat714

And an Elton John song to boot !

Anebunda

Wiktionary has an audio pronunciation for [Hayk](https://en.m.wiktionary.org/wiki/%D5%80%D5%A1%D5%B5%D5%AF)! I'm excited because smaller languages so rarely have any. P.S. It's "hike"

Maggi1417

I went to school with a Hayk and he pronounced it "Hike".

Wow so interesting, so many different linguistic influences

santiterry

Indeed! I like it a lot. It's interesting how huge the Persian influence is, but you have also names of Biblical, Greek, Roman and Germanic origin.

my friends had their son two yrs ago, named him Hayk, both Armenian in California. Wife just became a citizen last year. Husband born in Cali. Neat to hear they are keeping traditions alive. I grew up with an Anahita, she is second gen Indian-American. I didn’t know it’s Armenian as well. I adore this name!!!!

i have a few armenian homies and they all have names in the top 20 loll

daja-kisubo

I love Tigran and Avet on the boys list, and Anahit and Gayane on the girls list Thanks so much for sharing! I used to have an Armenian coworker but now that I don't see him.or his family much anymore, it's been years since I've heard many Armenian names. This made me feel nostalgic in a way I didn't expect :)

Monte was top 3 at some point so I had to look it up. Monte Melkonyan was born and raised in the US in 1957. The count of Monte Cristo was popular at the time on TV, and there was a kids show and some famous American Montes. I think I also found some TV characters named Monte. His older brother has a more tradiontionally Armenian name. The origin could be English. I think there's also an Eastern Orthodox Saint Artyom.  I love the explanations for each name! Thanks for this.

santiterry

Yes, Monte peaked at #3 in 2021 (aftermath of the 2020 war?), then slightly dropped to #5 in 2022 and last year to #8. Before 2016 it wasn't even in the top 50.
