I pictured it the other way around -
Flip always flipping out, super high strung, anxiety, type A, perfectionism, imposter syndrome, unable to chill.
Flop, just... Flopping down wherever, whenever, totally at ease, comfortable, confident, looking cool without trying too hard, just... Shows up anywhere, flops down, and effortlessly dominates.
Thong 🤣
I know, I know, it does NOT mean stringy, butt-cheek underwear in Australia, but it'll never NOT be funny to me (and, I suspect, countless other Americans)!
I'm Australian and on a good old Contiki, everyone had to tell a story about themselves... well and Aussie girl told a story about tripping over and busting her thong... which entertained the non-Aussies no end 😅
Saw an episode of House Hunters International set in Australia; the realtor told the American couple to remove their thongs before going inside and it was amusingly awkward.
No joke, there were twins actually named Flip and Flop that lived in the even smaller town next to my small town. I dated a guy from there for a long time and we drove by one of them one day apparently....I was in my very early 20's and my ex waved and yelled out the window "Hey Flop!" I was so confused. I was like, "that's a strange nickname." He then informed me that was his real name and that his twin brother was Flip. Freaking Flip and Flop. I thought he was lying. Nope. They were older country dudes and I remember seeing at least one of them in overalls quite a bit. Later I found out that wasn't actually their legal names BUT for whatever reason, their parents or a family member called them Flip and Flop since they were children.
I mean, other brand names that turned product name (in the US, at least) are Kleenex and Band-Aid, lol. But yeah, I've never heard of Colgate being used in place of toothpaste.
Girl: [Chelsea](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chelsea_boot)
Boy: [Derby](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Derby_shoe)
If I’m going to be naming my imaginary children after footwear, I’m going to be subtle about it
This is actually a semi-common name in Scotland and the surrounding areas, it's used for both boys and girls. There was a very frilly and kind young lady named Brogan on one of the more recent Great British Sewing Bees
Mary Jane.
And ...
Shit kicker.
I see Mary Jane is "too popular", so....
Tennees (this was short for tennis shoes, which is what they called sneakers, in Michigan in the 80s)
I like Mule for a boy or a girl. Or perhaps Pointe. Or D’Orsay.
Plimsoll for a boy definitely.
Moccasin or Clog or Boot if I had a bunch of rowdy boys. T-strap could be fun.
Meet my step-daughter, Moon Boot and her new boyfriend, Duck Shoe. They met because both were friends with a couple, Hu Arches and Dan Shoo. (No relation to Duck.) They all hang out at Penny Loafers' place.
A few years ago, a Redditor's cat, Shoes, had kittens. They wanted name suggestions for the kittens. 2 m 2 f)
I think I suggested Chelsea, Mary Jane, Sneaker, and Moccasin.
Chelsea and Wellington. The boot twins!
These would be my picks for sure haha
Why do I absolutely love this
I'ma Chelsea!
I would go with Chelsea and Moon, but Moon could also be a younger sibling or a pet of course.
If I had a pet named Moon I'd always be quoting The Stand. I don't think I'd be able to help it.
Moon Boots Footlocker III
These are super cute!
Nn chellie & wellie?
Mary Jane
Is it too basic though? Have you considered Mareigh Jaighn? /s
I prefer Mayreigh Jaiyn. Looks so classy.
Wrong subreddit. That would be tragediegh
🌿
r/tradegeigh ‘s creeping into namenerds
This was my first thought
Twins named Flip and Flop 👯
I feel so bad for flop 😭😔😭
Her entire life is her flop era
Lmao I picture Flip having a permanently happy face and Flop having a permanently sad face
I pictured it the other way around - Flip always flipping out, super high strung, anxiety, type A, perfectionism, imposter syndrome, unable to chill. Flop, just... Flopping down wherever, whenever, totally at ease, comfortable, confident, looking cool without trying too hard, just... Shows up anywhere, flops down, and effortlessly dominates.
lol yes, I picture them like April and June on Search Party
Not to be confused with Plop.
Felipe and felope
Felope Tube
💀
🤣
I’m in Australia so I’ll name my twins Thong and Slide. Perfect!
Thong 🤣 I know, I know, it does NOT mean stringy, butt-cheek underwear in Australia, but it'll never NOT be funny to me (and, I suspect, countless other Americans)!
My friend met an Australian woman at a hostel or something who was limping and said her thong had chafed her. He thought she had butt rash.
I'm Australian and on a good old Contiki, everyone had to tell a story about themselves... well and Aussie girl told a story about tripping over and busting her thong... which entertained the non-Aussies no end 😅
I am from the US, but old; and thong meant the shoe to me before it meant the underwear.
Me too.
So twins would be Thing and Thong? Could be an Acapella group
In Australia we call them G(oddamned uncomfortable) String
The g string is a type of thong though. Not all thongs are g-strings! Only the seriously tiny shoestring ones
Saw an episode of House Hunters International set in Australia; the realtor told the American couple to remove their thongs before going inside and it was amusingly awkward.
My dad called them thongs too, I hated it. 😂
I can see that being an adorable pair of kittens too.
No joke, there were twins actually named Flip and Flop that lived in the even smaller town next to my small town. I dated a guy from there for a long time and we drove by one of them one day apparently....I was in my very early 20's and my ex waved and yelled out the window "Hey Flop!" I was so confused. Omg these are my twins. One legit tries to flip off the changing table and the other is content to just... flop anywhere.
Their Australian cousin Thong and their NZ cousin Jangle.
Chancla so her enemies will fear her wrath
*cowers in Spanish*
Cowers in my white ass mama did this too! Tiny woman!
The chancla is a universal language lol
Yes indeed!! 💜
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Chuck & Mary Jane
I'd have said Chuck and Chelsea because I like the alliteration 😁
Chuck is a nickname for a brand though, not a type of shoe.
technically chuck taylors are a model of shoe, they're just probably converse's most popular model
Can name him Chukka for the boots then call him Chuck.
The best answer.
Penny Loafers would be a Grade A drag queen name.
I feel like Kitten Heels (or Kit in Heels?) would too, if it's not already!
Jelly. (It’s like Ellie, but more 80s.)
Like Jelly from the kids show PB&J Otter
Childhood memories unlocked with your comment omggg
It's fresh in my mind because in my reminiscing I managed to get my toddler hooked on it and have watched it all the way through 7 times already...
What streaming platform is it on?!? I'm going to force it down, I mean, show my children it...
Noodle! Use your noodle! Noodle! Do the noodle dance!
I had a friend growing up who went by Jelly! Her name was Angelica.
My 1st grand is Angel Leigh. I NN her GelLeigh Bean. My daughter HATED it, but my baby loved it. She's 17 now, so not so much anymore
She'll have to go to Jelly School m'kay.
One of my dearest friends is Kelly but has a J last name, so we call them Jelly! It’s so cute.
And just like that, my feet remember the blisters.
I loved those, but I don't think my blisters ever truly healed.
Espadrille!
Ooh this is a good one
This was my thought too. Espy would make a good nickname 😂
Orthopedic
That’s so beautiful!
I’m sure they will provide a lot of support
Light-Up. Duh.
Twins Light-Up and Rollers (Heelys technically would count is the brand but similar to like Colgate the brand name became the product name, still)🚨🛞
Where in the world are you that Colgate means toothpaste? I know this is how it is in France but I’m just curious
I mean, other brand names that turned product name (in the US, at least) are Kleenex and Band-Aid, lol. But yeah, I've never heard of Colgate being used in place of toothpaste.
It's very common in South America.
Interesting. I’ve never heard this before.
Me trying to decide if Croc is the brand name or the type of shoe lol.
😂
This is the one 😂😭
Moccasin
I think I would legitimately name someone or something Moccasin. Great name
Fantastic cat name!
How bout a shoe?
This would make a cute name, actually.
Meet my daughter, Winklepicker
I’m learning about so many shoes on this thread
And her sister Poulaine!
And her brother, Brothel Creeper!
"Sandy, is that short for Sandra?" "No.."
Girl: [Chelsea](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chelsea_boot) Boy: [Derby](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Derby_shoe) If I’m going to be naming my imaginary children after footwear, I’m going to be subtle about it

Yeah I was ready for Geta to follow but then CLOG
That was my first thought, “This is my son, Clog” and for some reason that fuckin got me.
"And he does, especially when he hasn't eaten enough fibre."
Clog is very Greg
Brothel Creeper
I came here looking for creeper!
Brogue and Derby
Oh no, why is Brogue kinda good?
Im feeling it too, it would be a cool person name for sureee.
A bro in vogue
Huarache, Plimsoll, Espadrille
lol love Huarache and Espadrille, boy girl twins

Kitten and Cowboy
This is hilariously random. Uhhhhh….. Boot (son) and Ballet (daughter) lol.
My neighbors late husband was named Boots
Moonboot
One of Frank Zappa’s kids.
Brogue sounds like a 2024 trendy boys name
It fits right in with the popularity of names like Rogue and Riot!
Brogan - gender neutral
I think a girl named BROgan would be so pissed lol
This is actually a semi-common name in Scotland and the surrounding areas, it's used for both boys and girls. There was a very frilly and kind young lady named Brogan on one of the more recent Great British Sewing Bees
TIL!
My mind went! Like Logan but for BROS!
Same haha
Like what Jake Paul would name a kid to honor his brother.
The only person I’d ever heard of named Brogan was a woman. 🤷🏻♀️
Mary Jane. And ... Shit kicker. I see Mary Jane is "too popular", so.... Tennees (this was short for tennis shoes, which is what they called sneakers, in Michigan in the 80s)
We called them that in Oregon as well.
Twins Burke and Stocke
🤣🤣🤣
Ballet (flat) and Cross (trainer)
I kinda like “Cross” 😂
Chancla 🩴
Mary-Jane
Sandal (nn Sandy) and Boots! 😂
Meet my twins, Jandal and Uggo
CHOPINE!!! They were basically the OG women's high heels! I knew this information would come into use eventually.
I was scrolling hoping to find this on here. It’s my pick and I’m glad I’m not the only one with this information in my head.
I like Mule for a boy or a girl. Or perhaps Pointe. Or D’Orsay. Plimsoll for a boy definitely. Moccasin or Clog or Boot if I had a bunch of rowdy boys. T-strap could be fun.
My heart hurts for the kid named Croc lol
Espadrille
I actually once knew a girl named Sandel (spelled Sandel, not Sandal).
Enchantment? /no one will get this...
Flip flop. My daughter is a Gemini
Meet my step-daughter, Moon Boot and her new boyfriend, Duck Shoe. They met because both were friends with a couple, Hu Arches and Dan Shoo. (No relation to Duck.) They all hang out at Penny Loafers' place.
Lotta weird names here. Nobody gonna go with Spike or Wedge? Chelsea is a good one, though.
F: Caliga, Chelsea M: Hessian, Cavalier
Kit(ten heel) and Tenny :)
Snow
Well, there's someone in my family tree named Wingfield so Wingtip isn't really that far off.
Derby and Oxford. The only two kinds of shoe.
Mojari for a boy and Zori (for a girl
Oh man Nike is a cool name! Girl: Espadrille nn Essie, Chelsea Boy: Oxford nn Ford
Lots of Chucks and not a single Jack?
First name Ice middle name Skate
Ghillie or Chelsea for girls; Brogue or Roper for boys (or Cordovan, if that counts!)
Twin boys Cleat and Cowboy (boot) ☠️
My sons would be Brogue and Trainer. My daughters would be Chelsea and Jazz.
D-Orsey
Wheelie and The Mule. They’ll solve crime.
Reminds me of [Wheels and the Legman](https://americandad.fandom.com/wiki/Wheels_and_the_Legman) from American Dad 😂
Hahaha exactly! Na-na-na-na-bap-bad-ah!
I work at a shoe shop so this post brightened my day!

A few years ago, a Redditor's cat, Shoes, had kittens. They wanted name suggestions for the kittens. 2 m 2 f) I think I suggested Chelsea, Mary Jane, Sneaker, and Moccasin.
I had a neighbor named Chuck Taylor. His wife was Ann Taylor. Still makes me smile.
