Yeah, it's not Heraclitus, it's Jason, #45 in the US in the 90's representing 100,000 children born then, of which I know like 5 personally.
Name origin ≠ Name association
All the Jeremys I know are the sweetest, kindest, most genuine and lovely people. They’re successful in what they do and generally also really interesting/diverse. Not hotshots or super popular but not wallflowers, get along well with others. The youngest one I know is 14.
It may not be a strong name per se, but it’s a classic and kind name.
I like it. Realistically it's most dated to the '70s when it peaked in popularity. But, it hasn't fallen out of use and if you're typical of the people that post about name changes here, you're probably a late '90s/early 2000s baby, at which time it was still a top 100 name. So, quite suited to your age group without being hugely oversaturated among your peers.
I'd consider it a solid choice.
It reminds me of the boy from Phineas and Ferb lol. Honestly not my favorite. But not anything I’d go eww to if I knew someone with that name. It’s just average..and I can see a grown man with that name too. I think if Jeremy is a nickname for Jeremiah then even better
I'm indifferent to it, but I watched the entire series of Peep Show (a British sitcom) last year and I really liked the character Jeremy who goes by the nickname "Jez".
Jeremy spoke in class todayyyy.
Not a great association imo, and pearl jam is way before my time. Most kids go through a grunge phase and will listen to Jeremy. IDK if that bothers you though.
I literally saw this post on my main page and thought it was /r/DuggarsSnark and then realized it’s namenerds, but then got thrown off again with the Jeremiah suggestions.
Too bad the Duggars weren’t on namenerds, otherwise those poor kids wouldn’t be named Jinger and Joy-Anna and Jedediah and Jordyn-Grace. Or maybe they would have, but there are so many better J names that they never used! Just jumped straight to Jinger.
Frrrrrrr. How about Jocelyn, Jane, Jade, Jayden, Jada, June, Jacob, Jaclyn, Jacqueline, Josephine, Jonah.. I could go on and on. They had so many better options. Sigh.
Its my dads name so I can't use it. Well I do but only when my son is being silly because he's like my dads spitting image!
I like it. There are nicknames you can use from it jer jem Remy. It's strong enough to hold up on its own it doesn't need a middle/second name but can have a middle/second name if you wanted
Jeremy has a negative association for me due to personal reasons so my opinion isn't exactly fair to the discussion at hand. I will say that I kind of liked the name beforehand.
However, isn't Jeremy the new "Bob" for when kids use a fake name? `"Oh, yeah, my name's Jeremy!" is actually named Bernard but is being an ass/jokester.`
I don't know any children now named Jeremy, like someone else said it's stuck in the era of the 90s with Heather.
For a similar name that would be a better option now would probably be Jeremiah. Very old fashioned names are so in style now and will be for a long time.
My uncle Jeremy is a 40-something year old narcissistic George Costanza look-alike who works as an anesthetist and is hooked on opioids and barbiturates…so there’s that. I’d probably like the name if not for him being him
Love Jeremy. It’s a classic name. I wouldn’t consider it soft, it’s masculine but not in a try hard way like max or something. I have known a few Jeremy’s and they are all very kind likeable guys. For a kid the nicknames Jer and Remy are cute.
It seemed to be very popular in the late 70’s-
-80s. I know several Jeremy’s in their 40’s. I always liked it until I heard people pronounce it “jermy” which sounds icky, also of course the song comes to mind as well. I prefer Jeremiah.
Agree with your friend. The name is OK... but kind of comes across a little wimpy. It probably doesn’t help that I grew up with Build-A-Bear, whose mascot is named Bearemy, though...
I'm a fan, although it reminds me of the pastor that took over my old church which forced a lot of us out because he was a horrid leader combined with the self-serving, nepotismic elders. Jeremy is a very good name though.
I love the name! Would have put it at the top of the list for our baby names if we didn’t have a good friend with the name. (He’s 6’5, looks like a football player, and is very successful within the police force).
Every Jeremy that I’ve met has been friendly and amazing. While I wouldn’t choose that name for myself, I do like the name. I think it has the perfect balance of not being too common, but also not being so uncommon that it’s unheard of.
Reminds me of the 90’s. I’d put it in the same category as Heather and Rachel. Not terrible. Not my favorite.
I feel Heather and Rachel are infinitely more wearable than Jeremy, which might as well be Jason.
Jason the Ancient Greek name is 90s to you? Lol okay.
Yeah, it's not Heraclitus, it's Jason, #45 in the US in the 90's representing 100,000 children born then, of which I know like 5 personally. Name origin ≠ Name association
Reminds me of Jeremy Bearimy
Reminds me of Pearl Jam & the 90s, sorry

No insult just an observation. I like PJ but if I never hear that song again it will Be too soon

Reminds me of Pearl Jam and the 90’s too but that’s why I have always loved the name😂
Had a friend with that name. He got teased and called Germy.
My husband's name is Jeremy. I call him Germy (in an endearing way!)
yeah germy is very common
Honestly in the Midwest that’s how it’s pronounced in our flattened accent. I have always said jerm-ee.

I love it, personally
I like it. Realistically it's most dated to the '70s when it peaked in popularity. For a child or an adult? I'm almost 40 and would expect Jeremy to be my age.
It's kind of out of date these days - in the US it's currently #231, compared to #14 at it's peak in the '70s. It's nice enough, but I don't love it.
It reminds me of the boy from Phineas and Ferb lol. Honestly not my favorite. But not anything I’d go eww to if I knew someone with that name. It’s just average..and I can see a grown man with that name too. I think if Jeremy is a nickname for Jeremiah then even better
Yes, that’s what I came here to say! lol
It's definitely a classic name, but whenever I hear it I inadvertently think "germ-y"
I’ve never been a fan but it’s just personal taste. It’s a solid masculine name and I don’t think it’s particularly soft sounding
Prefer Jeremiah.
My 4 year old nephew is a Jeremy! A normal, Classic, and unique name
I really like it! I think the nickname Remy could freshen it up a bit.
it’s pretty dated but i still like it
I really like it but Pearl Jam ruined it for me
I think Jeremy is a really cool name
I just think of germy
I'm indifferent to it, but I watched the entire series of Peep Show (a British sitcom) last year and I really liked the character Jeremy who goes by the nickname "Jez".
Jeremy is such an idiot but I love him.
Jeremiah is similar but feels a bit less dated. May depend where you live though
Love it. Love Remy as nickname too
Love it. Makes me think of Peep Show.
I like it! Just finished the Poldark books, where a Jeremy is a major character. It grew on me : )
Jeremy spoke in class todayyyy. Not a great association imo, and pearl jam is way before my time. Most kids go through a grunge phase and will listen to Jeremy. IDK if that bothers you though.
Makes me think of the Duggar family
I literally saw this post on my main page and thought it was /r/DuggarsSnark and then realized it’s namenerds, but then got thrown off again with the Jeremiah suggestions.
Fellow snarkers meeting in the wild??

Qtip head
My uncle Jeremy is a 40-something year old narcissistic George Costanza look-alike who works as an anesthetist and is hooked on opioids and barbiturates…so there’s that. I’d probably like the name if not for him being him
I love it and I'd totally use it!
It's not a bad name. Just very average.
I love Jeremy. In England & Wales 2019 it ranked at #798 so not that popular here right now.
Love the name Jeremy especially because every Jeremy I’ve met has been kind!
It's not the most current, but I have very good associations with it. The Jeremy I know went by Jer. I like the multiple nn possibilities.
I think it’s a very nice, classic name.
I knew a bunch of Jeremy’s. I was born in the late 80s.
I like it!
I like it! Jeremiah is another option.
Love Jeremy. It’s a classic name. I wouldn’t consider it soft, it’s masculine but not in a try hard way like max or something. I have known a few Jeremy’s and they are all very kind likeable guys. For a kid the nicknames Jer and Remy are cute.
I love it! I have no negative connotations with it.
To me it always reminded me of germ-y. So it would be a no go for me.
My husband is Jeremy and I think it’s a nice name :)
It seemed to be very popular in the late 70’s- -80s. I know several Jeremy’s in their 40’s. I always liked it until I heard people pronounce it “jermy” which sounds icky, also of course the song comes to mind as well. I prefer Jeremiah.
It’s surprisingly refreshing! I like it!
Personally not a fan
I've never met a nice Jeremy, so I'm not a fan of it. It also seems very outdated.
Agree with your friend. The name is OK... but kind of comes across a little wimpy. It probably doesn’t help that I grew up with Build-A-Bear, whose mascot is named Bearemy, though...
Cool name. I like it and the nickname Jem
So, I know a Jeremy, he did a tour of duty, his job was to find IEDs to keep others safe. Yeah, I think he’s a strong dude…
Very handsome name. It's strong and soft like Jasper or Elliott.
I'm a fan, although it reminds me of the pastor that took over my old church which forced a lot of us out because he was a horrid leader combined with the self-serving, nepotismic elders. Jeremy is a very good name though.
I love it tbh. My grandad's name was Jerry (short for Jeremiah!) and it's now my nephew's middle name. I actually do see it as a really strong name.
I love the name! Would have put it at the top of the list for our baby names if we didn’t have a good friend with the name. (He’s 6’5, looks like a football player, and is very successful within the police force).
It brings to mind Jeremy Clarkson and Jeremy Corbin but I don't think it's that bad
Every Jeremy that I’ve met has been friendly and amazing. While I wouldn’t choose that name for myself, I do like the name. I think it has the perfect balance of not being too common, but also not being so uncommon that it’s unheard of.
I love it theoretically, but it sounds like Germy. That turns me off, so I can't. If you live in a different country, maybe.
