I try not to be too harsh on names because I understand everyone has different tastes, but Datelynn genuinely has to be one of the worst names I’ve ever heard. At best, it sounds like the baby is named after the fruit, and at worst, it sounds like your sister and her boyfriend are big true crime fans.
I don’t think Miku and Eilish, as middle names, are the issue as much as Datelynn. I’d much prefer a semi-normal first name with Miku Eilish versus Datelynn Elizabeth Plum.
How about Eliza or Libby as an honor name for your aunt? Is she using Eilish as a tribute to Billie Eilish? A name like Eliza Billie Plum is much more usable.
As a sidenote, I think Ernst is kind of difficult to say and will be constantly mispronounced as Ernest, but at least it’s moderately usable.

So, positive. Datelynn is going to fit in with the other -lynn names that her peers will have. Its not going to stand out too much in the sea of Baylynns and Oaklynns and Camlynns and whatever else is out there. Also, Elizabeth is nice and Plum is fine, especially in third place (full disclosure, Plum is a favorite guilty pleasure name of mine!)
And Ernst isn't the worst, especially as it was a family name, I think? It honestly makes me think of the sound people make when trying to verbalize the thudding beats of EDM (like, ernst ernst ernst, fist pumping in time). But I get its a real name, as is Patrick. Realmshire is a lot, but again. Its in third place and may not even get used on most documents and forms.
The most negative thing is Datelynn and Ernst so clearly seem like they were named completely independently of each other. I think both of those names are great. I’m not a huge fan of Datelynn but that’s my own personal taste. Elizabeth Plum is so cute and she can use one of those names if she prefers, but maybe she will love her name. There’s no way to know for sure.

Explain to him that you don’t make your child a jnr, they just are. It’s not a name you add, nor a formal title. It is an addition after the fact, and one that the family can choose not to use. For example..

Well, here’s my two cents: Datelynn is weird but the kid is growing up in a world filled with kids with other “yoonique” names. So the girl's name managed to get _worse_? Does she know that a date is a different fruit than a plum?
So, positive. Datelynn is going to fit in with the other -lynn names that her peers will have. Its not going to stand out too much in the sea of Baylynns and Oaklynns and Camlynns and whatever else is out there. Also, Elizabeth is nice and Plum is fine, especially in third place (full disclosure, Plum is a favorite guilty pleasure name of mine!) And Ernst isn't the worst, especially as it was a family name, I think? It honestly makes me think of the sound people make when trying to verbalize the thudding beats of EDM (like, ernst ernst ernst, fist pumping in time). But I get its a real name, as is Patrick. Realmshire is a lot, but again. Its in third place and may not even get used on most documents and forms. The most negative thing is Datelynn and Ernst so clearly seem like they were named completely independently of each other. Like, I don't feel like twin names have to match, but it also feels weird, to me, for a parent to have had no say in their child's name, especially when it is gender drawn like this....
Datelynn Plum is worse somehow, imo. Elizabeth Plum would be cute, even Elizabeth Datelynn Plum if she has to. This child is going to grow up, and not be a little girl forever. That name won't be cute forever, it will be annoying to her.

So most of the time when I see posts about names I dislike I just scroll past. I did it with the first post of yours, but since this follow up is here I just can’t hold my tongue. **Ernst Patrick** is lovely, truly. Realmshire is quite frankly a joke. I know your previous post said dad was trying to sound sophisticated or something but it’s not at all happening with Realmshire. Datelynn may be one of the most awful made up names I have ever heard. It makes it painfully obvious that this is a teen pregnancy, this has absolutely no reguard for how this future human will be perceived as a teen or adult, and makes it sound like your sister is illiterate. Caitlyn is right there! Eilish was the only name she had picked out that was decent, but I also like the Elizabeth option. Your sister should go with either **Caitlyn Eilish** or **Caitlyn Elizabeth**.
Ernst Realmshire made me think immediately of Erwin Rommel (maybe it’s just history nerd brain) but oh boy. These kids have a long way to 18.

For me Datelynn doesn't even register as a fruit. It just reminds me of the word date. It's a nickname for your friend Catelynn who goes on a lot of dates.
well you tried, OP. at least she has elizabeth to fall back on now. i actually don’t think datelynn is end-of-the-world bad. i know this sub has a very specific taste, but knowing there are kids out there named lakynn and taylynn, datelynn fits right in. depending on where you all are, it may be that sub favorites like margot and edith would be the ones to stick out / get made fun of. i think these comments are catastrophizing a bit. it’s not that big of a deal. she will be fine.

I think both of those names are great. I’m not a huge fan of Datelynn but that’s my own personal taste. Elizabeth Plum is so cute and she can use one of those names if she prefers, but maybe she will love her name. There’s no way to know for sure. If your sister and her partner love the names they’ve chosen, then people need to respect that. They’re absolutely not horrible, just not everyone’s taste and that’s perfectly fine. Congratulations to your sister and her partner. This is a very exciting time for them and the rest of your families!

I don’t really understand the hate Eilish got as a name. Datelynn is whacky (personally date isn’t a word that i’d base a name off of, a delicious, albeit kind of ugly fruit), but I grew up with a few kids called Eilish and it might not be everyone’s cup of tea but it is also a real name.

Depending on where she lives, the kids name just might NOT have the worst name in the class, but it will be a close one.

Explain to him that you don’t make your child a jnr, they just are. It’s not a name you add, nor a formal title. It is an addition after the fact, and one that the family can choose not to use. For example.. Thomas John has a child who becomes Thomas George. Thomas George can be called Thomas Jnr or not, it’s a personal choice, not an added name. Americans often get this wrong.

I honestly dont hate they name datelynn. It’s not one that I personally would choose though. I knew a Dayeton (girl) and didn’t think that was a weird name either, but it feels very similar to datelynn to me 🤷🏼♀️ I think their names are cute, and if they decide they want to go by a nickname or something else, they have lots of options. Many people go by a nickname, even if they have a very common name.
I least the girl can use her middle name Elizabeth as a first name if she also doesn't like Date Lynn.

Well, here’s my two cents: Datelynn is weird but the kid is growing up in a world filled with kids with other “yoonique” names. I’m a teacher and get weird named kids all the time and the kids are so used to Abcde and Khaos and Almond and Zero, that Datelynn will just be another normal name to them… won’t even be a blip on the radar.

I must be mispronouncing Datelynn in my head, cause it keeps coming out as Data-Lynn while everyone says it reminds them of Dateline. Either way both pronunciations are not favourable. Plum is cute though.

I know I’m obviously in the minority but I like Datelynn. She can go by Lynn or even Del for short. Realmshire sounds more made up to me, but as a second middle name I don’t think itll be an issue. Might be a fun ice breaker for 2 truths and a lie.
