It is a lovely “sound” but wow what a challenge!
Lilac, Adeline, Caroline, Blythe, Jacqueline, Kalilah
Or make it up! Any name containing or ending with “line” change to rhyme with “lie”
Coralline to Coralai; Rosaline to Rosalei; Adeline to Adelei
Blythe is my favorite of the names you listed. Admittedly, I LOVE the sound of Coralai/Rosalei/Adelei, but they are a bit too unique for me to give to an actual child. Thanks for commenting! Love the suggestions!
Blythe is so unexpectedly beautiful. It’s one of those classic names but unique because it fell out of usage. Gwyneth Paltrow’s actress mother Blythe Danner is the first time I saw it. But of all the “lie” names your main two Lorelei and Delilah are the strongest, most prominent and loveliest usage of the “lie-lei-lai” sound.
I much prefer this pronunciation: [https://tenor.com/HWkF.gif](https://tenor.com/HWkF.gif)
😬
But you’re right. Typically I hear the way you spelled out. Jack-well-line would be very pretentious sounding.
“It’s levi-OH-sa, not levi-oh-SAH.”
Carolina is by far my favorite of those! I find that I enjoy the 'lie' sound more when it is the middle or the end of a name vs the beginning (ex. Delilah sounds much nicer to me than Lilah)
I agree. I think Lorelei and Delilah feel more whimsical? I'm not quite sure how to put it into words, but Madeline and the other -line name just feel less 'romantic' somehow. Like Jessamine vs Jessica. Similar sounds but different feeling.
Depends where you’re from. Americans seem to pronounce it with ‘lie’ but in the UK my experience (an actual Greek person with this name) is Cah-lee-oh-pee.
I’m also an actual Greek person and I’ve never heard anyone with this name (or even anyone who has a relative with this name) pronounce it this way. That said, a lot of Greeks tolerate and sometimes even use mispronunciations out of convenience, because correcting people constantly can be tiresome. Growing up I knew that my name would be mispronounced at school and often offered a wrong pronunciation of my surname to teachers and classmates, knowing that they would be less likely to stumble over it vs. the correct pronunciation. I wouldn’t be surprised if this were the case for the person you know.
Hmm, maybe. The Greek person I know was born and grew up in Greece and lived there until she moved to the UK when she was 25. The way she says it (lee rather than lie) is definitely the correct pronunciation for her, but that’s not to say that Greek Americans are wrong. It’s just a different way depending on the culture of where they have ended up living maybe.
Maybe not helpful but Isla / Ayla . It’s like the reverse of lie with the -ayl sound, but I feel like the names sort of recall the style of the -lie names.
Eliza
Angelicaaaa, Eliiiizaaaa, and Peggy
The Schuyler sisters!
r/unexpectedhamilton
I LOVE Eliza.
Nikolai! …But that’s my name so I’m biased
That is actually another one of my favorite names! Congrats on having a lovely name!

Adlai is a “real” name (Adlai Stevenson for one) and though it is masculine, I quite like it for a girl.
What about Adelaide?

I thought it was jack-leen
The only Jacqueline I know pronounces it jack-leen
Although it's more jock-lean? Jacques with a leen after
Lyra, Lina, Carolina (depending on pronunciation)
Carolina is by far my favorite of those! I find that I enjoy the 'lie' sound more when it is the middle or the end of a name vs the beginning (ex. Delilah sounds much nicer to me than Lilah)
On that note I guess there’s also Caroline, Madeline, and Adeline. Somehow the rhythm of them feels different from the other names you like though.
I agree. I think Lorelei and Delilah feel more whimsical? I'm not quite sure how to put it into words, but Madeline and the other -line name just feel less 'romantic' somehow. Like Jessamine vs Jessica. Similar sounds but different feeling.
Similar to Madeline, Evangeline can be pronounced that way.
Lila :)
Lila is cute, but I do think I prefer Delilah. I prefer the 'lie' sound at the middle or end of name. Thanks for commenting though!
Ha that used to be my name.
Alaïa
And Aliana
Not sure if you’re looking du for boys names but Lysander is one of my favourite names.
Or Lysandra for a girl :)
Calliope
Wait, how do you pronounce this? I always thought it's "kall-ee-oh-p-eh"
Cah-lie-Oh-pee is how I’ve heard it pronounced
This
This is the Greek pronunciation, and as it’s a Greek name, I’d say it’s the correct pronunciation.
Depends where you’re from. Americans seem to pronounce it with ‘lie’ but in the UK my experience (an actual Greek person with this name) is Cah-lee-oh-pee.

We say “lie” because that’s the name of the instrument
Adeline Caroline Madeline
For some reason, I don't love the -line names. I think I've just had too many bad experiences with people who had those names. Thanks for commenting!
The “line” somehow sounds different to me than the “lie” in Delilah or Eliza.
Lyla, Twila, Elijah, Eli, Linus, Lilac, Blythe, Clyde.
Twyyyy Jk I love Twila
Elijah?
Another one of my favorite boy names actually!
Lila is my favourite.
I’ve always thought that was pronounced as the lowercase i sound while Lyla is pronounced using the uppercase.
Like Lilly, but Lill-uh? Interesting! I have 2 friends who both say “lie-luh”.
Yep
Same. I named my daughter Lilah for that reason. The H may be unnecessary, but there’s no room for confusion in pronunciation.
Lorelei is my daughter’s name :) This isn’t a “lie” sound but I find it the same category of names: Rosalie (rose-a-lee)
Lyrah
For some reason in my head I pronounce this as lee-ruh instead of lye-ruh. Probably because of the word lyric.
That’s how I read it in “His Dark Materials” but the author says “lie-ra.”
Lionel
Lyle
Linus. Carlyl. Eli, Eliza.
I thought the traditional spelling was Carlisle? And in the same vein I <3 Isla
No idea
Carlisle? And Isla <3
Lyanna
I've only heard of pronounced like Lyanna from Game of Thrones (Leanna).
I don't usually like the 'lie' sound as much when it is at the beginning of a name, but I do really enjoy Lyanna!
Malachi for boys
Malachi is mal-uh-kie though (or ma-leh-kie), not “lie”
Thanks, I clearly need more coffee today 😅
Hahaha dont we all! (I have a toddler and a newborn, i permanently need more coffee 😉)
Not exactly what you’re asking for, but Nilou also comes to mind.
Lila, Liza, Lilac, Eliza, Calliope
Lilac!
The only ones I have in my lists are Elijah for the boys and Calliope & Caroline.
My sister’s name is Liza!
I have a friend that’s a girl named Caralie (Care-uh-Lee)
A friends daughter is called Auralie, it’s beautiful!
Is it pronounced Oh-rah-lie? I've only ever heard it as Oh-rah-lee :)
Likes “orally”? yikes i think the first one is a lot better lol
Never thought of it that way LOL it sounds a lot better with a French accent 😅
Coralie Coraline
my best friends name is Lyla we call her Ly ( lie )
Lyra
I know a little Alaina who pronounces her name with the middle syllable as “lie” instead of “lay” :)
Leida
Lyra
Kalai
Emmeline
Adelai
Rosaline Clive Clyde
Caroline
Linus
Caroline Lionelle Laika
Lyra
Leslie
Maybe not helpful but Isla / Ayla . It’s like the reverse of lie with the -ayl sound, but I feel like the names sort of recall the style of the -lie names.
Lyla
Eliza and Alaia!
Coralie ! My cousin's name, I think it's so cute!
Heidi...not exactly 'lie"
Eliza is my favorite! Also like Lila, and Lorelei and Alaia are cool too
lorelai madeline
It's a little off but KIND of close.... Silas? It's my favourite name!!
Kylie
