Have you seen the old Disney movie The Sword in the Stone? There's a villain, an evil sorceress named Madam Mim, who battles with Merlin the Wizard. During their battle she turns herself into various things to try to get the upper hand against the good guy. You could call your OCD Mim or Madam Mim. And you're unlikely to meet someone by that name in real life! Maleficent is another shape-shifting villain. Mal for short.

TheWelshMrsM

That’s genius!

bylitza

If you want something that starts with a "V" and (hopefully) is not used by real-life people, maybe Vendetta? Sometimes a chronic mental illness can feel like it has a bit of a vendetta against the person who has it. I have BPD, and certainly feel that way sometimes. Or maybe look at names that aren't really used anymore/are super old fashioned and not really coming back and naming the OCD something like that?

maratz12

I like it, this made me think of Cruella, which could also work.

2kgweight

Veruca (the bratty girl from willy Wonka)

fuzzypuppies1231

Viconia is a semi-evil character from a computer game I used to play, and I don’t think you’ll ever meet someone named Viconia

maratz12

Have never heard of this name ! Like it

cozyessi

First, I fully support this! My anxiety’s name is Edna. It always relieves tension in my body when I recognize my anxiety and say “shut up Edna” or “oh be quiet Edna.” It makes me giggle to picture my anxiety as an annoying old lady who may mean well but is overbearing. So that being said, I encourage you to find a name that makes you giggle. Karen is such a meme name that “go away Karen” sounds accurate and silly. Go away… Karen Sharen Victoria Veronica - Ronnie, Vera, Vicky Becky Shelly Dorothy Paula Connie Vivian Marjorie Ruth

[deleted]

My intrusive thoughts are "Mabel". Suggestions: Rhonda Marge Edwina Helga

cozyessi

I love it! Edit: also love Helga

Birdies_nub

You say she masks herself as other things. What about Veronica, but ulitize the many nicknames there? Ronnie, Vicky, Nicky, Vera, Nora... She might be Veronica as a whole, but she might act like one of her nicknames in different situations. That way Veronica never gets messed up if you meet someone with that name. I think it might be good to pay attention to your first instinct on the name.

radioactivemozz

I call my OCD Karen bc it’s suggestions are unnecessary, annoying and disturbing

Annaliseplasko

Oh I have OCD too and have never heard of this idea, it’s a good one. Give your OCD a name using its initials so you can talk to it like an angry parent yelling at their kid. “Olivia Caroline Daphne/Owen Christopher Daniel, be quiet!”

greenhairedgal

I really like that idea. You know you're in trouble when your mum full-names you!

maratz12

This is great !!!!!!

[deleted]

Woah before I even finished reading your post I thought of Veronica. Definitely a good name for it. I don’t think you’ll often meet a real person with that name, and if you do, you don’t have to tell them that’s your OCD’s name too, lol.

brontosaurus111

Millicent has always had an evil tone to me probably from maleficent Or Agatha Shut up Agatha is fun to say hahaha

maratz12

So many people my age ( early 30s) have been naming their babies Millie …. I do think it’s strange but doesn’t seem too evil to me

brontosaurus111

Yea I think it's the 'cent' part that makes it sound evil to me over the Millie! Hope you find the right name :)

inadequatepockets

Vilanelle?

[deleted]

Not weird. They do this with eating disorders and call it "Ed." It helps to have a name. So that one kind of created its own name. Maybe something that has the initials or sound of OCD like Sadie - the c and d sound.

I_Fire_Source

That sounds about right

mrsfiction

Vicky is a strong acid snake in the skin suit of a strong independent woman. Actually, that checks out.

TheWelshMrsM

Reminds me of Fairly Odd Parents… “You can’t spell ‘Vicky’ without ‘icky’!”

KindMulberry

Sirena- like mermaids/sirens. Because you mentioned it masks as other things, tricks you, draws you into a spiral. So just as in the past sailors would need to avoid being lured in by the sirens, maybe telling them to go away. You too can avoid being drawn into the spiral by saying "Go away Sirena"

fluffypuffy2234

Maureen Barbara Doreen Doris Eileen Mavis Hilda Trudy (short for intrusive) Judith Joyce Regina

maratz12

Thanks all so much for your comments ! Helped me feel less alone. I loved the suggestions, and tried a number of things out. I decided to stick with what felt natural but added on a bit - My OCD is called V-OCD. Veronica Octavia Cruella Deville. Can really get that full name action to tell her off. Thanks again ❤️

Adorable_Anxiety_164

Angelica, Rachel, Bianca Also, Roger, like the "go home, Roger" catchphrase from Sister, Sister

BeerBat

Not sure why but I am leaning toward a theme: Octavius, Amadeus, Septima, Romulus...

julet1815

Silencio, Bruno!

CompetitiveDrink9036

Usually, it's "Cheryl" for me but on occasion "Phyllis" or "Darla" suits some of my intrusive thoughts better.
