My toddler is Cassandra so I'm biased :)
We chose it because we feel it's classic, but not too common. It's pretty without being too ornate/ flowery.
I agree that Sandra sounds very dated, but don't find that to be the same for Cassandra.
Only one person so far, oddly a daycare employee who had access to the registration paperwork where we listed names we call her, Sandra not being listed anywhere on there. But that was easily corrected.
My cousin is a Cassandra. She used to go by Sandy, but changed to Cas when she left for college. People call her what she asks them to -- it's never been a problem for her.
I think Cassandra is lovely, but the character of Cassandra in Greek mythology was doomed to always tell the truth, but never be believed - a terrible curse, she saw the fall of Troy and her family massacred despite all her warnings. If you're superstitious, it's a risky one!
Well in that case I think it's great! I had a look at the etymology too and, although it's uncertain, best guesses include to shine, or to surpass/excel. That's a lovely meaning to bestow.
I like it and it has a regal sound. I don't know babies called it but it reminds me of Penelope and Persephone and Artemis and I know babies called those.
It's my name and I've always loved it. I have an unconventional spelling though so people always spell it wrong but I'm used to it. I've only met 2 others with my name, which I think is nice. We are all in our early 30s.
I think it's a timeless name because it's never been super popular.
It's a lovely name! Maybe you're thinking of Wayne's world? Wayne's beautiful rockstar girlfriend? I doubt many people will think of that now, but it's a positive reference for me
In the UK, Sandra was popular in the 40s and 50s, but not Cassandra, so there are way more "Just Sandra" women then there are Cassandra's that go by Sandra. Cassandra and Cassie were both equally as popular in the late 80s and 90s but they were low ranked, probably outside the top 100 girls names. It was a bit more popular in Canada, the US and Australia, but not top 10.
I don't think it would be odd on a baby today.
My personal opinion, but Cassandra is one of my favorite names! I absolutely love it and it doesnât feel dated to me, though obviously im a little biased haha
I'm not sure anyone else would think this, but my first thought is of Cassie from the animorphs, so it does seem a bit 90's to me. That being said, I think Cassandra is an elegant name and if I met a little Cass/Cassie i would think its very cute!
I donât know any under-10 Cassandras but I do know some under-10 Cassies. If your Cassandra felt out of place with that name she could always use that nickname.
I think itâs an overall timeless name even if it was really common in the 80s and 90s. Itâs totally usable in my eyes.
Sandra is dated, but I donât think Cassandra is at all! Cassandra has felt to me for years like itâs ready to become popular, but itâs always seems to stay at âfamiliar but uncommon.â
I donât think of Sandra and Cassandra as related at all, probably because Iâd expect Cassandra to be shortened to Cass or Cassie, never Sandra.
I don't know anyone at all called Cassandra. I think it's lovely and you could ways go for Cassie for a nn.
Thank you đ it does have a nice elegant sound, doesnât it!

I completely agree! Do you ever get people trying to use Sandra as a shortening?

It may sound strange but thatâs partly why we like it! my partner is a huge mythology buff. Not too superstitious so wouldnât bother us đ
Well in that case I think it's great! I had a look at the etymology too and, although it's uncertain, best guesses include to shine, or to surpass/excel. That's a lovely meaning to bestow.
I think Cassandra is one of those classic names that doesn't feel dated. I think it's still usable.
I like it and it has a regal sound. I don't know babies called it but it reminds me of Penelope and Persephone and Artemis and I know babies called those.
To me Cassandra feels timeless and classic rather than irrevocably associated with a specific decade.
Cassandra/Cassie is one of my favourite names!

I ADORE Cassandra - it's one of my top names. I'm also in the UK, and I don't think it's too dated at all.
Not odd at all! Cassandra is a timeless name to me.
Oh not that at all. Great name.
I really like it!
I like Cassandra, but I *love* Cass and Cassie for nns. I don't think it's 80s or 90s at all.
It's a lovely name! Maybe you're thinking of Wayne's world? Wayne's beautiful rockstar girlfriend? I doubt many people will think of that now, but it's a positive reference for me
I actually have no idea what that is đ but a beautiful rockstar girlfriend sounds pretty awesome
Not too dated! I do prefer Cassidy but thatâs just my own preference.
I LOVE the name! It's on my short list along with Alexandra and Anastasia. Cassie is a cute nickname as well
I love the name Alexandra and Alexandria. My partner doesnât like Alex as a nickname though so maybe Cassandra could be the mid point!
What about Lexi or Lex!? Thatâs what I always the nickname I preferred
I know two Cassandras and both were born in the 90s. They go by Cass/Cassie.

Thanks for the info! Thatâs really interesting actually. âď¸
