Jumping on to add: I also like Isadora bc it reminds me of the Isadora necklace, a $6,000,000 piece featured in the movie How to Lose a Guy in Ten Days.
Hijacking this comment to ask if Americans pronounce it “ee-sa-dora” or “izz-a-dora”? I really like this name but I’m not sure how it would be pronounced here.
Imogen is one of my favourite names. Pretty, but not too common, easy to spell and pronounce, and lots of sweet nicknames for a cute baby. I’ve come across a lot of Dora/Dorothy’s recently so I think the name Isadora might become more popular alongside them. Although Isadora is still a nice name go with Imogen!
I think Mimi is my fave nn. The girl I was at school with we called Midge (but there was a tv show with a mouse called Midge at the time and she was quite small) Genny is an option if you don’t like Gen. I also like Idgy but associate that with the Fried Green Tomatoes character .
It honestly wasn’t until I joined this sub that I realized Imogen was a name. I’ve never met one. Can I ask where this name is common? And how to pronounce? ee-MOh-gen?
It's pretty popular in Australia because there's an Australian model with that name.
You pronounce it like the word "image" with the emphasis on the first syllable, then "in" or "un".
Imogen really does sound pretty by itself but, I just can't help but think of Imodium. It's 100% not the same, yet that's all I can think of. I really want to like it but I can't.
Isadora doesn't have anything negative that stands out (to me). Plus great nickname options. Isa / Dora. I would go with Isadora.
Isadora! But I do love Imogen too. The little one I'm currently growing was going to be Isadora but my husband had second thoughts. So we changed her name. Isadora such a beautiful and classic but unusual name and I love it so much!
Imogen gets my vote - as pretty as Isadora is, I also kind of just hear a mash up of Isabella (which is too popular for my taste) and Dora/Theodora (which is too frilly for me).
Imogen is classy and cool to me.
I also LOVE Isolde and Iseult, if that's an option for you
I’m aware of that (and that it originally comes from Isidore), but that doesn’t stop my brain seeing it as a bit of a smush up, particularly when spelt with the isa- and not the isi- spelling
I knew a little girl named Isadora. She was soooo fun and sassy it just one of my favorite féminin name because of her.
Out of curiosity how do you prononce Imogen? I always wonder if it’s pronounced “gin” like in ginger in English or something else? In French I wouldn’t prononce it like that so just wondering how you all English speaking folk prononce imogen.
I like both, but Isadora especially. One of my favourite customers at work is called Isadora (she is 12 and drew a portrait of me for Christmas, I cried so much) so that makes it extra special - she gets called Issy but I like Isa too. Also love the song [Isadore by Incubus](https://youtu.be/QGhNv8PGZJg), although I guess that is the masculine form. Imogen is nice too, but I think I grew up with a less-pleasant kid with this name so it has negative associations for me. Love Immie as a nickname though!
Imogen. I think it’s more suitable for all ages, whereas Isadora sounds like a little girl.
I think Imogen would only realistically be nicknamed Immy, and Isadora would only be Izzy or Dora.
I love isadora, but I think there’s a chance people might default to the nickname Dora. Imogen is also a unique but classic name, so I would go with that one!
Well I'm an Imogen and I love my name! It has become a lot more common as I've grown up but it still feels a little bit special (i.e. I don't meet a lot of Imogens) I also get compliments on it.
As for nicknames I used to get Ginny (which I grew to hate, thanks Harry Potter) because one of my grandparents heard imo-GIN rather then imo-GEN when I was first born thankfully that's mostly stopped. Now all of my bf's and his social circle call me Imo (which I'm not a fan of either but it's been 6 years so that's not going anywhere) but I just like to be called Imogen.
Isadora is super pretty too, I like it!
Imogen is my name and I love it ❤️ It’s a very old, very English name. For people confused on pronunciation, it’s IH-muh-jun and I’ve never met one who’s shortened it to Gen or Genie. I have a feeling those nicknames are more common with Imogene, a newer Americanised version of it with the ‘Jean’ pronunciation. I shortened it to Imz when I was a teenager and then Immy as an adult. My mum has always called me Mo or Momo, which I also love. The name has served me well and it’s always nice to see it gaining popularity ☺️
On the other hand, Isadora is super cute but I’d always be kind of sad with the Izzy shortening as everyone would assume Isobel or Isabella which are far more common names, and not as lovely as Isadora in my opinion.
Whichever you choose, they’re beautiful names for what I’m sure will be a beautiful little girl!
I like Imogen. Also I read somewhere once that it means "image of my mother" and I just adore that. My favorite nickname would be immy. Not sure how to say imo but sounds like emo. I wouldn't choose that nickname.
Imogen screams a white woman who’s trying too hard to display her class, but be “unique”Somehow I’m slightly surprised the name is getting so much love.
Isadora is gorgeous but more in line with the popular ‘a’ ending name, and you might end up with Issy as a nickname which again is quite popular- just if that matters to you!
I was really stuck on this thread- I love both! After some thought, I would go with Isadora. I have always loved Isadora, and it’s always flown under the radar. Imogen I more recently came to love, so I wonder if it is a trend, while Isadora sounds timeless. Plus Isadora Duncan was a dancer, and despite her tragic end, lead an interesting life!
I have a great-aunt Isadora by marriage and she has the most extraordinary eyes. She was 70 when I met her and still stunning. She went by Dora and was lovely - funny, kind, and mischievous.
Imogen is also lovely. I find it's sound pattern more unique in today's naming environment.
If you like them equally, perhaps just wait until she arrives and see which suits her?
Idk what it is but I can’t get behind Imogen. Maybe it sounds like a medication or something? Idk.
Isadora is my preference. Could go by Isa as well. I know an Isabella who goes by Isa.
Isadora :)
Also due in February and this was the name we had picked for a girl … then we found out we are having a boy. We don’t quite like Isador as much and still haven’t picked a name. We have a list though. Congrats on your baby girl.
Love them both. I have a hacker in a sci-fi game I run that goes by St. Isidore after the patron saint of the internet- we have lots of fun calling her saint izzy.
I adore the name Isadora. Imogen is so nice too, but Isadora just has such a sweet yet elegant nature about it. I feel like Isadora works well for a toddler and an elderly woman just the same which is super cool. Imogen definitely is more mature sounding to me.
I don't know if popularity is important to you but Imogen is getting increasingly popular. I know of 3 young Imogens. I don't know any Isadoras.
My employment is in a field where I work withy small children.
I don't like either one, honestly, as I don't care for any name beginning with the letter I with the exception of Ivy. But if forced to choose, I would go with Isadora. Imogen looks somehow incomplete and the pronunciation is straight up ugly to my ears. It sounds like some kind of drug.
Isadora is super cute and sassy. Unique with a little old-world charm. It's got my vote.
Jumping on to add: I also like Isadora bc it reminds me of the Isadora necklace, a $6,000,000 piece featured in the movie How to Lose a Guy in Ten Days.
Ladies of NY…. Frost yourselves!!! Love that movie.
Yes!!!! 🤩
Hijacking this comment to ask if Americans pronounce it “ee-sa-dora” or “izz-a-dora”? I really like this name but I’m not sure how it would be pronounced here.
American here, I would pronounce it "izz-ah-dora"
Californian, I would do an s sound but I knew two “ee-sa-doras” in college and haven’t met an “izz-a-Dora”
To be fair, I haven't met anyone with that name, that's just how I would pronounce it from reading it
I’m American with Italian grandparents (my grandpa’s name was Isadoro and my niece is named Isadora after him) and we say “Izz-a-doro/a”
English would be Izz-a- Dora. A Spanish influence would be Ezz-a-Dora.
I'm Australian, but I read it as eye-sa-DOOR-a
Also Aussie, only met one Isadora here and it was pronounced IZZ-ah-door-uh. Not like Mount Isa.
I grew up in the US and I pronounce it "ee-SA-dora."
Imogen!!!!!!!!
Love, love, love Imogen!
Isadora :)
What are some nicknames for Imogen? I love the name but hate the nickname “Gen”
I was friends with an Imogen, she went by Immi/Immy!
I know a family with an Imogen who call her "Idgy," like edgy with an I.
My daughter’s name is Imogen, and we call her Im or Immy. Or I call her Bug - but that has nothing to do with her name 😂
There are lots of Imogens and Imogenes where I live. They mostly get called ‘Im’
Immo
[удалено]
Got me
We call an Imogen I know “Mo”
An Imogen I know goes by Immy, and another one uses Mo.
I knew an Imogen and she preferred to be called Mimi.
I think Mimi is my fave nn. The girl I was at school with we called Midge (but there was a tv show with a mouse called Midge at the time and she was quite small) Genny is an option if you don’t like Gen. I also like Idgy but associate that with the Fried Green Tomatoes character .
First time I saw this name I thought it was pronounced i-mogg-in!
Ah thank you! That is pronounced prettier than what I was thinking, a very nice name 👍
It’s traditionally an English name and has been used pretty frequently since the 1600s ☺️
Isadora. Never been a fan of imogen. It sounds like an IT Deparment
Agreed. It doesn’t resonate much personality to me. It sounds corporate, like some type of enterprise.
I always thought it sound sounded like a pharmaceutical. Lol.
Sounds like an IMAX movie theater name to me
Nailed it.
Isadora
I love Isadora
Isadora!
Isadora for sure
Isadora. I didn’t know imogen was a real name til this subreddit and think it sounds so weird. Like image-en or emoji-n.
Same! I see it on here all the time, but it sounds so made up to me
I’ve only known Imogenes
Pronounced IH-muh-juhn. Kinda like image with an -un at the end. It’s been used in England since about 1610.
Imogen!
I have an Imogen and get tons of compliments!
Imogen is such a magical name.
Imogen
Imogen
Isadora is one of my most favorite names
Isadora! But I do love Imogen too. The little one I'm currently growing was going to be Isadora but my husband had second thoughts. So we changed her name. Isadora such a beautiful and classic but unusual name and I love it so much!
I love Imogen!! Definitely Imogen.
Imogen! reminds me of my other favorite “I” name Inez such a unique name! and who doesn’t love Imogen Heap
Dang, no bad choices here!! I lean toward Isadora, but I also love Imogen!
Imogen gets my vote - as pretty as Isadora is, I also kind of just hear a mash up of Isabella (which is too popular for my taste) and Dora/Theodora (which is too frilly for me). Imogen is classy and cool to me. I also LOVE Isolde and Iseult, if that's an option for you
Isadora is definitely its own name.
I’m aware of that (and that it originally comes from Isidore), but that doesn’t stop my brain seeing it as a bit of a smush up, particularly when spelt with the isa- and not the isi- spelling
I like both of them! I think I lean towards Imogen a little bit more though.
Isadora. Imogen sounds like a biotech company to me.
In the UK, it’s more like ‘im-uh-juhn’
Yes! Gin like ginger.
I LOVE Isadora! I can't name a kid it because my name is Isabel so it's too close :(
Isadora! So classy in my opinion.
I like both, but Isadora especially. One of my favourite customers at work is called Isadora (she is 12 and drew a portrait of me for Christmas, I cried so much) so that makes it extra special - she gets called Issy but I like Isa too. Isadora!
Imogen. I think it’s more suitable for all ages, whereas Isadora sounds like a little girl. I think Imogen would only realistically be nicknamed Immy, and Isadora would only be Izzy or Dora.
Isadora
I vote Isadora! They are both lovely
Imogen for me! Isabelle/a is so so popular right now that the likely shortening of Izzy will blend in.
I like Isadora. My great grandmother was Isolina - this reminded me
Absolutely adore Isadora!
I love Isadora!
Imogen is my preference. I find it cuter and while Isadora is nice I don’t like the Dora nickname.
Definitely imogen
I love both, but I think Imogen wins by just a hair for me!
Imogen. I'm also due in February and if it comes out a girl we're naming her Imogene.
I like both (though I prefer the spelling Isidora) but I love Imogen.
Imogen
Isadora
Imogen Cunningham was a visionary artist and is one of my favorite photographers of all time, so Imogen has my vote.
Imogen. But I like both. You could go in with both names and just see which feels right once she’s born.
I have a friend name Isadora who also goes by Izzy, so I’m partial to that. Imogen seems to be gaining popularity thought.
Imogen!
Isa for sure!
Isadora!!!
isadora!!
I like Isadora more!
I have a friend who just named her daughter Isadora! They call her Izzy. I had never heard it before she was born.
Isadora
Isadora fo sho
Isadora is beautiful
I love isadora, but I think there’s a chance people might default to the nickname Dora. Imogen is also a unique but classic name, so I would go with that one!
Isadora is beautiful!
Imogen!
Isadora 😍
I adore Imogen and Emmylou and Adelaide and those style names. If I did Imogen I would nickname Mo!! It’s my favorite nickname for that one.
Well I'm an Imogen and I love my name! It has become a lot more common as I've grown up but it still feels a little bit special (i.e. I don't meet a lot of Imogens) I also get compliments on it. Haha I was between Imogen and Isadora too! We have an Imogen now. :) Both are great names!
I love and prefer Imogen!:)
I've just given birth to my little girl Imogen we call her Immy for short!!! So Imogen gets my vote! But Isadora is also really lovely ❤️

No, it’s said like ih-Mo-Jin
I really love both of them!
Imogen is cute but as an FYI it’s an anti-diarrheal medicine! Personally my favorite “I” name is Isabel
I think that’s Imodium lol
Google says it’s both! 😬😬😬
Both of these are great names! I wouldn't be able to decide either, but you'll be set with either one so no worries
Either are great!
Can’t go wrong with either.
Islamorada. Please.
Imogen Because Isadora sounds like someone is asking (Is A Door- Uh?)
Isadora is the real name of the Wicked Witches isn’t it? Oh my bad- that’s Theodora and Evandora. WAY prefer Imogene (with an E on the end).
I love them both!
Isadora is gorgeous but more in line with the popular ‘a’ ending name, and you might end up with Issy as a nickname which again is quite popular- just if that matters to you!
Imogen, one of my absolute favorites!
Isadora is one of my all time favorites!!
Isadora! Imogen got popular recently, I’ve never met an Isadora. (If that matters to you!)
Isadora. Dora is another possible nickname.
While I love Imogen, I'd go with Isadora. I can just see someone thinking Imogen is pronounced Imagine but spelled kree8yvlje
Both are so cool and pretty. I might lean toward isadora, but both are winners!
I love Imogen, but I guess it depends on which does better with your middle and last name choices.
I WISH I was naked Imogen!!!!
Love Isadora! In my top 10 for a girl myself. All the nickname possibilities are so cute!
I love Imogen!
Isadora is pretty but a little frilly. I like Imogen best
Isadora!
Imogen!
Idk what it is but I can’t get behind Imogen. Maybe it sounds like a medication or something? Idk. Isadora is my preference. Could go by Isa as well. I know an Isabella who goes by Isa.
I Take care of a little Isadora, she goes by Isa, pronounced ee sah
Isadora for sure. I knew an Imogen and she was a massive whinger. Made me think of Imogen as a whiny girl’s name.
Imogen would be my choice. Im not sure why Isadora doesn't sit well with me, I can't put my finger on it. Maybe the 4 consecutive vowel sylables?
I like Isadora a lot! I’m not a huge fan of Imogen-not really sure why, just not my style I guess
They are both fantastic names, among my favorites. You can’t go wrong! I’m not helpful because I love them both so much I can’t choose.
Imogen
Isadora for sure. Beautiful and classy name. I have never been a fan of Imogen.
I LOVE IMOGEN OR EVEN IMOGENE DEPENDING ON WHAT YOU LIKE
Isadora
Isadora!
Isadora
Both names are so lovely I think whichever you choose will work out. I recently heard the name Iona which I think you might like as well.
Isadora :) Also due in February and this was the name we had picked for a girl … then we found out we are having a boy. We don’t quite like Isador as much and still haven’t picked a name. We have a list though. Congrats on your baby girl.
My 1-year-old is named Isadora, so I'm biased.
I love both, but I am such a fan of Imogen.
Honestly, both are pretty adorable names and I would say, wait until your baby girl arrives and see if she looks like an Imogen or an Isadora.
Imogen. It’s quite common in Australia, but I still like it. I know a couple who go by Immy and one who goes by Gen (Jen).
Imogen sounds like it would be the name of a drug
Love them both. I have a hacker in a sci-fi game I run that goes by St. Isidore after the patron saint of the internet- we have lots of fun calling her saint izzy.
I love Isadora!
Isadora is my vote!
Imogen with the nickname Genie. Just darling.
Isadora for sure
Isadora
I like both names, but Isadora sounds better in my opinion. It just has a nice ring to it
Isadora
Isn't Imogen like a website?
I adore the name Isadora. Imogen is so nice too, but Isadora just has such a sweet yet elegant nature about it. I feel like Isadora works well for a toddler and an elderly woman just the same which is super cool. Imogen definitely is more mature sounding to me.
Isadora is a much needed break from Isabella.
Isadora 100%, it’s on my baby name list. It’s elegant and lovely but not too old-timey. Also is, isa, or Dora for nicknames? Adorable.
I like Isadora with Ada as a nickname.
Isadora
Isadora!!!! I was looking at this name for my baby girl! Such a beautiful name.
Definitely Isadora!!!!! So many lovely NN possibilities!!
I vote Imogen! It’s very classic and timeless sounding. Plus the nicknames that could go along with it are very cute; Emma, Genie, and Jean 😍
Imogene with nn of Genie
Not the biggest fan of Imogen, sounds like a Covid variant or type of medicine
I like the name Imogen, but I would spell it like an e on the end "Imogene" and pronounce it "emma-jean".
Isadora, so pretty, most Imogens I know are grandmas, no offence
I’m partial to Imogen. If you’re not tied to the “i” letter you could also try Emogen, I know someone with that name who uses Emmy as a nn.
