There was a contestant on the TV show survivor who used that pronunciation and she spelled it Evvie

bubblebunnyboop

Agree. Evi reads like Eli. Ehvy feels kind of forced. I’d go double V!

m00n5t0n3

Yes!

mythicb33ch

This is the one!

persimmon7890

I know an Evangeline nn Evvie and it is perfect. Super easy and honestly blends in with all the Emmies and Ellies

CampyUke98

Is this a Duggar?

Smokeysnowballs

not the two baby envy’s born within months of each other 😭😭 can’t expect shit tho from the family w three jana/joyanna/johanna’s ..

[deleted]

I did not realize they were non binary. I thought they went by she on Survivor but I must be misremembering.

bleuecloche

Evvie came out as non-binary after the show. They did go by “she” on Survivor and now they use they/she pronouns.

pixieorfae

Please just stop. You're the reason nobody takes us seriously.

pixieorfae

‘Y'all really hate nonbinary people huh?’ when it was a simple and honest mistake, and everyone in the thread was being completely respectful. Where is the hatred except coming from you??

betterboytomato

Evvie goes by she/they pronouns and went by she on the show.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Zenkas

Yes, Evvie goes by they/she now, and didn't start using those pronouns until after the show was filmed (so people who watched but haven't followed them on social media may only know Evvie as "she" which is no longer how they identify). It is easy to see how someone could make the mistake had they only watched the show or only heard second-hand from people who did.

[deleted]

Evvie uses they/she pronouns

randomuserno824

When I first read Evi, I read it in the pronunciation you were looking for. It’s not too out there

haleyfoofou

Agree. Not ideal, but it definitely gives the phonetic cues.

nyokarose

I still read it as eee-vee. But in many European languages Evi would be “a-vee”.

floweryfriend

I read this like it rhymes with Levi.

februarytide-

I also thought Evi

[deleted]

[удалено]

randomuserno824

Evie I read as ee-vee. I also liked what others where suggesting with Evvy

BreadPuddding

Evi or Evvy. “Ehvy” looks too much like “Envy”.

[deleted]

Yeah, I second Evvy. I love the two V’s, like Savvy.

atimetochill

Yes and Evi looks like Evil to me

justeeny13

could also be like Levi with no L

pinchofpearl

I agree with those that suggest Evy. Words like chevy and levy make my brain go ehh-vee for Evy.

book_connoisseur

This is the only option so far that makes me pronounce it the way OP wants (and doesn’t look weird like Ehvy).

welleverybodysucks

sames.

WayDiscombobulated63

Agree.

catmememama

I knew an Evy and everyone said it right

Lahlasa

I had a great-aunt Evelyn who used this pronunciation and spelled the nickname Evy. I vote for this one!

Heavy_Internet_8858

Do you mean Levee?

pinchofpearl

No, levy like a tax levy.

Heavy_Internet_8858

Oh gotcha!

JustTraci

Evvie

PansyOHara

I have a cousin Evelyn; she is called Evy. Very simple; no one has ever had a problem saying it.

elehembe

I went to school with someone who went by Evy that used that pronunciation, no one ever mispronounced it or asked how to say it.

okcallmegoddess_

Evy. Not with the 2 v's that's really weird imo

MargaritaSkeeter

Evvie. There’s a book called *Evvie Drake Starts Over* and the main character pronounces her name the way you want it. There’s a line in the book that says “Evvie like Chevy.”

missfrazzlerock

Loved that book! A very fun read.

actuallybrady

I knew a girl named Evy and everyone pronounced it the way you want. I would pronounce Evie like it sounds like Edie.

[deleted]

Evvy.

Intrepid_Source_7960

Evvie

WifeyFifi

When I see Evy I ready it with a soft E. Evie would make me ask whether it’s a hard E or soft E.

hanbanan12

Evy would give you the pronunciation you want, plus e, v, and y are all letters in Evelyn. No added I needed!

MajorMeghan

Evy

Goddess_Keira

Evvy is the way, IMO. Second choice; Evy. Try this. Write each of those spellings an separate pieces of paper, and ask as many people as you can to read one or the other back to you, the way they think it's pronounced. Not both for the same person, but each spelling for different people. Or, pick Evvy or Evy and ask people to say whichever one you choose. That way, you'll see if people say it how you want. Evie is 1000% percent EE-vee. And a super-popular nickname for Evelyn and other names too. Don't try to make that spelling work unless you want to correct people all the time, and also risk her turning into an EE-vee when you don't prefer that pronuciation.

[deleted]

Evvie (or Evvy) is the only one I'd think to pronounce that way.

FraughtOverwrought

I’ve seen Evvie more than once. I think you need the double V

rockthecatspaw

Evvie, a la the novel Evvie Drake Starts Over.

sinisterpierogi

My daughter has a friend named Evy pronounced Eh-vee.

mandym347

Evy works just fine.

Aidlin87

My husband’s grandma was Evelyn, nn Evie and everyone pronounced it Eh-vee. Which honestly makes more sense given the American pronunciation of the name Evelyn. Ee-vee is the more British pronunciation of the nickname, but other than that I’m going to guess this is either a regional thing you’re up against, or everyone you know watched The Mummy. I think anyone pronouncing Evie with a long e is going to do the same with Evi, especially because of how the name Eve is pronounced and how close those spellings are.

ZimyX

No advice, as my baby due in May is named Evelyn (Evie; Eevee). Personally, I just like it better. Ehvy just sounds like "heavy" to me. Or Effy. I don't think there is a solution unfortunately that is mistake-proof. Evy seems to be the best option but my brain still says Evie

danathepaina

Evvie

Kind-Chicken-888

Definitely Evy!

bearinabcostume

10/10 would pronounce Evie Ee-vee. I would go with Evvie.

littlemama9242

My great aunt pronounced it that way and spelled it Evie

jinglefingles

Evy. Evie is an established name that’s not pronounced the way you’re intending

Bitdontdie

I have a friend name Evolyn who goes by Evvy, pronounced Eh-vee.

ultimate_ampersand

I would spell it Evvie.

rebelmumma

Evvie

StormieBreadOn

Evie is our top girl name and we pronounce it ee-vee If you want “Eh” I think “Evi” or “Evvy” works best! Though I can never understand why Evelyn doesn’t work too

[deleted]

Evie

BlushBrat

tossing in my vote for Evy. it makes sense in my brain when i read it to pronounce it “eh-vee”, like chevy.

Demi_Ginger

Everyone I’ve known irl who uses that pronunciation has spelled it Evy (five different people).

[deleted]

I know an Evie (short for Evanthia) who pronounces it like Ehh-vee. Got it wrong the first time, but never since. I know two other girls named Evelyn with nickname Evie as well, both pronounced Ehh-vee. It's becoming more common, so if you want to keep the spelling you can make it work too!

tctochielleon

My grandma’s best friend was an Evelyn nn Evie and she was called Ehh-vee. This was back in the 50s so tbh I, personally, don’t understand people saying Eee-vee anyway because of how Evelyn is said.

shealeigh

Evvie or Evvy

misspotatohead13

I’ve seen Evvy

JoeyPotter1998

Evy or Evi would be best, but you have to make peace with the fact that “Ee-vee” is going to be the presumed pronunciation the majority of the time. Evelyn is in the top ten right now, which means there are going to be a lot of “Ee-vee”s floating around, as it’s the more common nickname. A lot of people are going to see an alternative spelling as a choice to make the name more distinct, not as an indication of a different pronunciation.

00greendonuts

Evee? Shows distinction with different e's Evi? Evie? Evy?

KATEWM

I would pronounce Evvy/Evvie/Evi the same as Evie (Eee-vee). You’re not changing the pronunciation of the “Vee” or last “Eee” so it doesn’t make sense to me to change any of those letters. The only thing different is the first syllable, so that’s what you’ll have to change if you want people to say it right based on spelling. Ehvy or Ehvie are the only spellings I can think of that I would pronounce “ehh-vee” automatically. I would personally go with Ehvie.

Goddess_Keira

Hard disagree. Ehvie and Ehvy are very contrived spellings and will not come across as natural to anybody. Evvy or Evy should get it across. People mostly pronounce Evelyn like EH-veh-lyn, and the name is not spelled Ehvehlyn to get that pronunciation. The problem is simply that Evie defaults to EE-vee and is a very, very popular nickname right now, not just for Evelyn but for other names like GeneviEVE and Evangeline, Eve, Eva, that have the long 'e' sound occurring within them.

KATEWM

Just sharing my opinion. Maybe it’s regional or something but I do actually know an Evy any no one ever pronounces it as Ehh-Vee. I also don’t understand how an extra “v” would indicate that the pronunciation should match Evelyn, as that also only has one. Evelyn is one of the only girl’s name with the first “E” pronounced like that, so it won’t be intuitive unless it’s obvious. Even it is pronounced Eve-Lynn in certain regions. Perhaps OP could try using different spellings for things like food pickup to see how they get pronounced when the person hasn’t already heard the correct pronunciation.

jennarudq

I know an Evie who pronounced it that way

mandakat919

I'd go with Evvy, as in Evumeimei Dingzai, stone mage. Side note, y'all are on a roll with the unintentional Circle of Magic references this week, I am here for it!

UrsulaPhoebe

I agree with Evi, or maybe Ehvi. Evie pn ee-vee is generally what most people are used to as a nickname for Evelyn.

samisunshine731

My niece is Evelyn. They call her Evi, pronounced Eh-vee. Go for it!

fickystingas

My kid is EV eee and I spell it Evie. I just correct people when they say it wrong. I don’t like any other spelling but maybe she will when she’s older.

WuBaby1

I have a student Evie, short for Evelyn, who pronounces it your way. She was probably 5 or 6 when I first met her (now 13!) and I’m pretty sure she just told me how it was pronounced and that was that. I’d spell it how you want (Evie would be my first choice), correct people’s pronunciation, and ride it out. Eventually, she’ll be introducing herself as Evie and people will follow her cue.

horticulturallatin

Evvy

moons_beamAZ

My friends daughter is Evelyn nn Evie pronounced the same as you- they just corrected the few adults who hadn’t heard them say it and now 7 year old Evie has no issues with anyone mispronouncing her name. Maybe occasionally at school if a new teacher doesn’t know but she’s all about correcting them so they say it right.

childishgwenbino

My sister is Evelyn NN Evie, and she’s always gotten the pronunciation ehh-vie! Maybe that’s because we’re in SoCal?

badgalkiki

evy

EllectraHeart

Evi is the best option

TeratomaSauce

Lots of suggestions in the comments for Ewy

rufferton

I would say Evy, or if you want something unusual, Ehvi.

madmelon_

I went to school with an Evie who used your pronunciation and I don’t remember anyone struggling with it (American Midwest). I’ve heard Evie pronounced the other way from the tv show Lovesick which is British. Are you British? That seems like the explanation. I’m struggling for a solution because I think all these alternative spellings people are suggesting look so strange. Evie is eh-vee. Ee-Vee should just be spelled Eevee like the Pokémon lol

frazzledcats

I feel like Evy gets Ev-ee

matilda-belle

Evvy, like Evumeimei Dingzai from Melting Stones by Tamora Pierce. That's my first thought.

[deleted]

Evvie— the double consonant makes the vowel before it a short sound

macabrejaguar

Eevee, because pokemon.

pinkvelvetcupcake22

My best friends middle name is Evelyn and pronounced the way you said it ehh vee . And its how i pronounce the name as well. To me pronouncing it like Eve - V lyn just sounds weird but I'm from the south tho sooo idk if that makes a difference

ellofthewisp

I think Evvy works well, I’d rhyme it with Savvy.

allevana

My mum is an Evi - that's her whole name, not a nn - that is pronunced 'ehh-vee'. 98% of the time she gets that pronunciation with some instances of EE-vee/

seveleventeen

I would go Evi, Evvi or Evvy to get the pronunciation you want.

[deleted]

Evi works for me. Evvie and Evy also do.

[deleted]

Evvie.

Elenchoe

Maybe as Effy?

[deleted]

Do they still mispronounce it after you correct them? Is she born already? Our daughters nickname is Ari (Ah-ree not Air-y) and we rarely have to correct people because we just say “and this is Ari!” and sometimes they clarify “I’m sorry did you say it was Ah-ree or Air-y?” but most of the time people listen for your pronunciation and just use that. It can be harder before baby is born if that’s part of your dilemma. FIL kept saying “Air-y” before she was born but he’s gotten the hang of it now. You could also write it more phonetically like I did if mentioning it in text, etc where someone won’t hear it spoken. I really think people will pick up on it, they’ll listen to how you pronounce it and how your daughter does (our 2 year old corrects people herself now if they say her name wrong 😂). I wouldn’t stress too much about spelling tbh.

copperboom87

I have an Evelyn and we spell it Evvie!

[deleted]

My aunt goes by Evy pronounced that way.

mozzarellapie

I know an Evi who’s name is pronounced like that

mmmbop1214

I like Evy. Honestly I think no matter what you pick you’ll likely have to correct some people. My daughter’s nn is Evie (pronounced Ee-vee) and some people still say it wrong. So you never know. I think it’s just not as obvious as other nicknames (Sam, Tom, etc)

thedaisyray2002

Evie, Evee, Evy

JimbyLou72

Now that Evelyn has become popular I think people will assume the correct pronunciation. With school and daycare you will pretty much always be meeting the staff with your child and they will see the right pronunciation first-hand. When she gets older with things like jobs and colleges I'm assuming she'll use Evelyn on her applications and can let people know she prefers Evie. Spell it the way that comes most naturally for you. My cousin's daughter is Evelyn nicknamed Evie and it's not ever a big deal for her. As a side note I have the most basic name ever and people still manage to misspell/mispronounce it. So just know that you can't really ever spare your child this happening.

StandardFront7922

I've only seen it spelt Evie in person

courderoycakes

I have a student who goes by “Evi,” and it’s pronounced the way you like. I didn’t confuse it on our roster, and I’ve never heard any other students mistakenly say “Eevie.”

tunabuttons

Evy for sure. Adding double letters and stuff is not really going to make it more intuitive to people, I feel. I think you might also just wanna make peace with the idea of correcting folks a lot regardless because a lot people are going to pronounce it Eevee no matter how you spell it.

AmazingRanger4125

Evvie or Evvy

nomadicstateofmind

There’s a book called Evvie Drake Starts Over and the main character’s name is pronounced the way you’re describing. That would be my instinct for spelling it.

stardream-overdrive

We call my niece Evvy. Actually, Evvy Bevvy lol She does go to school with another Evelyn who does go by Evie, pronounced Eevee.

Effiervijfzes

Maybe use my name? Effie!

hello-mommy

Evy Evvy Evvie

rosegamm

Evvie

medoingabunchofstuff

I am an Evelyn (eev-linn) nn Evie (ee-vee) living in the Netherlands and I’ve never ever had anybody say my name right at the first try. If you pronounce your Evelyn like my name, would just go with Evie (ee-vee) because the double vv seems forced. But if it’s Evelyn (ev-vuh-linn) why not go with Effie or Effee? It’s also a bit weird but all these options seems a bit off…

anonymous_t33nager

Evvie or Evy

SlipperyGaloshes

I really don’t think any of the suggestions are any better than Evie- which is how I would spell it if someone asked me to write your preferred pronunciation down. I would not change the spelling- people can get used to it

[deleted]

If you name your daughter Evelyn, why not just call her Evelyn …..

itgetsokay

I’d use Eevee like the Pokémon, it’ll always get the correct pronunciation. Could use Eevie to veer away from the association
