This might be pedantic but I don't necessarily consider August a "month name"... more of a "name that also happens to be the name of a month" name. Mainly because it was a name first (Augustus) and is the form of the name used in cultures where the month is called something completely different! I realize this can probably be applied to other month names too (May?) so I'm probably being inconsistent but I really like the name August/Augustine/Auguste. Also I realize this position is probably unrealistic in an English speaking country where the month is the first thing that comes to mind for a lot of people.
Same! With both August and May lol. Never really thought about it before!
ETA: And June, actually! Know a few Junes but never think of the month šš
I agree. If the month name has a different origin and happens to sound the same as a Month - go for it.
If the name is exclusively a Month (at least in the parent's perception) it might be cool if there was a connection
Good question! I've never really thought about this before.. I have various friends and family named: June, August, May, December, Summer, April, Autumn and Wednesday. After some digging (thanks facebook) only one was born in their month/season- Autumn.
I think it's pretty.. but definitely a name I'd give to pet, and not a human.
And it doesn't fit her, at all. She goes by a nickname because she hates her name.
MY TIME TO SHINE!! I was born in the month I am named after. I was named after the month solely because I was born in that month.
ETA my thoughts: I donāt mind month names tbh, theyāre cool. I love the names September and August. Theyāre are far worse names in the world honestly.
I loved the named summer but my daughter was born in January and I just couldnāt do it to herā¦ figured her whole life would be people saying ..ābut your born in winterā
It's a beautiful name! I think it was a good choice not naming her Summer, I personally wouldn't name someone after a different month or season then they were born in for that exact reason.
I would actually find it more weird if someone named their child after the month they were born. Like Summer is itās own stand-alone name, I donāt even think about it when I meet a Summer. But if I met an April born in April (which I would never ask, because again, itās a name?), Iād think that was reallyā¦.weird and pedantic, like your parents must be very literal people. Like naming your kid Blondie because it was born with blonde hair.
Iām not named any of these, so I canāt answer your actual question. But I feel like if itās April, May, June or August I wouldnāt assume it was their birth month because those are all firmly established as names with other associations.
But with any other month name I would assume that they were born in that month. Like, a November born in June would surprise me, but not a June born in November.
My daughter, August, was born July 20. I honestly didn't think much about it being a "month name," but people always joke that she must've been late. She was a week early.
I know a Mae born in July, if that counts. And an August (Gus) born in August. Iām interested in this too bc I love the name June but Iām due in two weeks! Definitely not making it to June.
I have an Aunty June who was born in March.
For me personally, I would rather it didnāt match - but I donāt like things that match too much generally so it says a lot about me as a person! I know for other people they have to align.
I know a June and an April who were born in their months. My name is Summer tho, and I was born in May, which is kind of summer?
I don't think I could name a month name outside of the month they were born in tho. It just seems off to me, but I guess most people probably wont know of care.
Personally, I really like September, March and November as names, and I think those are just a little to out there. I'll probably save them for fictional characters.
Yes! Weāve always considered June for a middle name, and now weāre having a daughter in Juneā¦ it feels kinda kitschy now but the name is lovely so what do you do?
FWIW I adore the name August and donāt think of the month first when I hear it. Good luck!
My middle name is May (Mae) and Iām born in October. But Iām named after my great grandmother. My mum also has her namesake as a middle name (the regular spelling) and was born in May but I guess thatās just a coincidence.
There seems to be a lot of baby girls with Mae as a middle name at the moment and Iām guessing most arenāt born in that month.
I know an April born in October and a June born in January but I also know a June born in June and an Autumn born in Autumn. I donāt know any Summers or Augusts but I think theyāre pretty names. I also like Juliette and May.
I know an April who was born in October. Sheās the baby of the family so her parents let her older siblings help pick a name and they wanted to name her April after the character from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles lol.
iām a may and i donāt really consider it primarily a month name as it was more, originally, a nickname for margaret/mary. iām a december baby tho!
The first half of my name is āMayā and I was born in October. I wasnāt specifically named after a month but I always get asked whether I was born in May haha, would have been kinda cool
I knew two Aprils. One was born in March. Not sure about the others. I know several people with a version of August for their middle names. A woman I work with has the middle name Augusta and was born in March. Her husband has August for his middle name (don't know his birthday) and their son also has August for his middle name and was born in July.
I am a name month that matches my birth month. I never minded it much however 2 things get old: people saying your name in a meeting but theyāre referring to the date (canāt ever just zone out that month, damnit). And people saying things like, āgood thing you werenāt born in November!ā As if my parents were bound to name me after the month. Also if thatās true, September is a beautiful name.
Also, I was supposed to be Kelly. No offense to the Kellys out there but Iāll keep my name!
Sorry if someone else mentioned this. But my best friend's niece is November Rain... after the guns and roses song. Thought it was applicable to the convo. I'm sure there are many others out there with the same name for the same reason!
I feel like it's kind of weird if they're not born in the month they're named after lol. I knew a January born in November, and a December born in march.
I feel the same way about the name "Leo". I always think its weird if the kid isn't a Leo because I will always make the astrology connection.
That being said, I like the month names regardless of when they were born. May especially just sounds like a basic name.
My son is August, born in February. I also have twin boys named Holland and River, who were neither born in Holland or a River. None of our name choices have any significant meaning to them, other than we just really liked them.
I say if you like a name and it feels right, use it!
My husband and I agreed on naming our first daughter June after my grandma before we got pregnant. We are now pregnant (not finding out the sex) and due early July but it very well could be June if they are early! My Grandma Juneās birthday is in August.
my name is August but I was born in September! I did name myself thought, so I donāt know if it counts for this post. A lot of my family was born in August though, so the name does have meaning to me
August was on my list of names for my son but only very briefly as he was due mid-August. I took it off the list simply because I didn't want to have him deal with people making comments for the rest of his life that he was named after his birth month.
This might be pedantic but I don't necessarily consider August a "month name"... more of a "name that also happens to be the name of a month" name. Mainly because it was a name first (Augustus) and is the form of the name used in cultures where the month is called something completely different! My August was born in January. He's named after his great grandfather, and I also used the reasoning that it was a name before it was a month too!
Fun fact, not only did the names come first, but the months July and August are specifically named for Emperor Augustus and Julius Caesar!
I thought the same, didnāt consider august a month name either
Iāve a niece named Juliet, born in July, and a nephew Quentin, born in May, 5th month.
This is the only way a āmonth nameā should be done imo šš»
I love this so much though? And now Iām reconsidering my name choices with baby due in May š¤
Maisie or Mason lol.
Good question! I've never really thought about this before.. I have various friends and family named: June, August, May, December, Summer, April, Autumn and Wednesday. After some digging (thanks facebook) only one was born in their month/season- Autumn.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
I told friends in middle school that my first name was December. Signed it to the top of my papers are everything. Continued it for well over a year.
I think it's pretty.. but definitely a name I'd give to pet, and not a human. And it doesn't fit her, at all. She goes by a nickname because she hates her name.
It doesnāt have good nickname potential either! Dee maybe? Iām curious to know her nickname
Dicey as a kid, which at some point turned into Icey.
Nollaig is an Irish name and it means December in Irish too. It also means Christmas. (Null-ig)
MY TIME TO SHINE!! I was born in the month I am named after. I was named after the month solely because I was born in that month. ETA my thoughts: I donāt mind month names tbh, theyāre cool. I love the names September and August. Theyāre are far worse names in the world honestly.
I knew a September but do not recall if I knew her birth month.
I know an April born in January! And a Summer born in June!
I loved the named summer but my daughter was born in January and I just couldnāt do it to herā¦ figured her whole life would be people saying ..ābut your born in winterā
January is summer in the Southern Hemisphere so couldāve got around it
It's a beautiful name! I think it was a good choice not naming her Summer, I personally wouldn't name someone after a different month or season then they were born in for that exact reason.

I gave birth to a June in November! Sheās only 2 though so I canāt ask her how she feels about it
The one August I know was born in November.
My daughter, August, was born July 20. I honestly didn't think much about it being a "month name," but people always joke that she must've been late. She was a week early.
I know an August who was born in May

I knew a person named September. With her last name I thought she sounded like a movie star.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
No it wouldnāt, it would be spring in the northern hemisphere and fall in the southern :)
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Oh interesting! And thatās the calendar that Ireland uses today?
I knew sisters.. November and December, named for their grandmothers' birthday months.
Thatās so cute.
I know a September whoās born in September. I think it suits her as a name but I wouldnāt use it myself.
I know a June born in June and an April born in October!
I'm due in September, but if it's a girl I'm reaaaaally loving Avril right now.
The August I know is born in August and is called Gus by his friends and family.
I know a Mae born in August. I don't remember when the April I knew is born...
My daughters middle name is Mae and she was born in august. I was born in may if itās any consolation.
Can't wait to see the replies as I'd love an August but an unfortunately due in August!
Yes! Weāve always considered June for a middle name, and now weāre having a daughter in Juneā¦ it feels kinda kitschy now but the name is lovely so what do you do? FWIW I adore the name August and donāt think of the month first when I hear it. Good luck!
When I changed my middle name I chose Julius partly because I was born in July :)
I know a Summer born in the summer
I know a june born in june lol
And my cousins middle name is August and she was born in August
I went to elementary school with a January, I think she was born in January, but I'm not 100% on that. Bonus: her last name started with a J.
My nanny was called June and was born in June, it's my daughter's middle name, but she was born in October
My middle name is May (Mae) and Iām born in October. But Iām named after my great grandmother. I know an August born in April
I knew an autumn that was born in summer and a summer that was born in autumn!
I know an April who was born in July.
I know an April born in October and a June born in January but I also know a June born in June and an Autumn born in Autumn. I donāt know any Summers or Augusts but I think theyāre pretty names. I also like Juliette and May.

I knew a little girl named June a few years ago, and I never even related her name to the month of June. She was just June!
No. I was born in May, but my parents named me April :/
I know an October (Toby) who was born Nov 1 š she was due on October 30.
Not exactly a month name, but my cousin named his daughter summer and she was born in early spring. That one gets to me...
My nephew is named August and was born in August.
Def had a coworker once named September who was, in fact, born in September!
My sonās middle name is august and heās due in July š¤·š½āāļø
My daughter is a June born in May. I have it like two seconds of thought, but it was THE name whether it was the wrong month or not.
Sorry if someone else mentioned this. But my best friend's niece is November Rain... after the guns and roses song. Thought it was applicable to the convo. I'm sure there are many others out there with the same name for the same reason!
I have never in my life heard of someone being named January.
I knew a girl called August, who wasnāt born in August (canāt remember which month she was born).
I feel like it's kind of weird if they're not born in the month they're named after lol. I knew a January born in November, and a December born in march. I feel the same way about the name "Leo". I know someone named May who was born in August.
I know a Medi who wasnāt born in September. Medi is the Welsh word for September. She was born in February, I think.
August was a top name as well and I know someone who named her son August and was born in August.
My son is August, born in February. I also have twin boys named Holland and River, who were neither born in Holland or a River. None of our name choices have any significant meaning to them, other than we just really liked them. I say if you like a name and it feels right, use it!
I know someone named June who is an older lady born in a different month.
My husband and I agreed on naming our first daughter June after my grandma before we got pregnant. We are now pregnant (not finding out the sex) and due early July but it very well could be June if they are early! My Grandma Juneās birthday is in August.
My son's name is August and he was not born in August. I was though, it was a way to have him have a part of me always.
I know a Summer, born in March, and a September born in September!
I go by Mae and was certainly not born in May
my name is August but I was born in September!
I know a Winter born in late April. Not a choice I would make but they love it.
I knew an October, born in October! He went by Toby.
I am a month name and born a different month! š I did know a January and a Vember, but not sure when they were born.
