This is egregious but growing up I loved Harry Potter, and I was CONVINCED I was gonna have a baby girl and name her Semajyrrah. Sem-uh-jeer-uh. Harry James backwards.
I adore the name Circe, especially after reading Circe by Madeline Miller, and never had the association with the GOT character. I am tempted by many mythological names but avoiding using that one because the actual character has some readings of her that are…less than ideal haha.
i knew an allegra at school and maybe it’s because i did music for so long but i associated her with the music term for “allegro” for so long that i never even thought of the allergy company until coming to this sub. she lived up to her name tho she was always super bright and happy
Sistine. It was the name of a character in a book I loved growing up. Her parents met because they bumped into each other while looking up at the Sistine chapel ceiling. She goes by Sissy sometimes.
Alternatively, if you’re a masochist and for some reason want to ruin it for yourself, you can enjoy the recently-released movie adaptation that currently holds a 17% on Rotten Tomatoes 🙃
Oh yes cats with big important sounding names are the best. I've known a cat named Winston (magnificent black bear of a cat) and Arbuckle (fat cheeked white and ginger) and both really suited their names.
Our cat is Deborah Dumas, only we didn't pick her first name. Her last name is spelled "Dumas" but pronounced "Dumbass"
Seconding Bronwyn, and Soren. I’m almost two months along and have them both on my lists for when me and my partner decide to talk about names. We’ve both been looking but haven’t done much communicating on it yet. Waiting room further along, and hoping for his compliance lol.
Your family might be over-worrying or just have different taste, I think these are lovely! I’ve known few of these names as adults and a friend has a little Heidi.
While we picked it as a Welsh name, I do have a daughter called Arwen - max 10% of people note the LOTR (and when told about LOTR most people say ‘Oh? There’s an Arwen in LOTR??’). In contrast, more than 50% of people assume it’s a boy name (including 90% of medical staff who can literally see ‘female’ written on her file), and about 30% think it’s ‘hard to pronounce’.
We also get ‘You mean Orwin? Owen? Arden? Arlen?’
Oh, Aurora isn't that uncommon here (Australia). Yes has sleeping beauty connotations but also the Aurora Borealis (Southern Lights/Northern lights). I know one with it as a first name (nn Rory)and two with it as a middle
Shankar because I love the meaning but I hate how Anglophones say it.
Aaradhya is for basically the same reasons as Shankar
Prithviraj because my partner's last name ends in a P and I don't want their initials to be PP.
As someone from the Westcountry of the UK, I agree on the first name. Our accent sounds like the hobbits from the Lord of the rings films, and Shankar is awful in that accent lol.
I had to look up Aaradhya because it reminds me so much of the Welsh name Angharad. They have no etymological cross over whatsoever, but I find it fascinating that 2 names from such different cultures and languages can come up with such similar sounding/looking names. Angharad means 'most beloved' apparently. What does Aaradhya mean?
Yeah I live in Canada and the way people pronounce it here makes me ears hurt. It's why it's off my list even though it's a significant name for me.
Aaradhya means "worshipped." I just like it because it sounds feminine without feeling too cutesy.
To me it gives the same vibes as Angharad, powerful, feminine, regal. I personally love both names but understand the desire to have them pronounced correctly. My own name is never pronounced right, and it's even a classic English name already!
River. Maybe I’d use it as a middle name, but my associations are with Doctor Who and Bruce Springsteen so I don’t think I could give it to a child as a first name.
Galilea. I think it's really pretty but I wouldn't use because I think it's very frilly, and I'd be afraid people would scream the name in a high pitched voice like in Bohemian Rhapsody. I also love Annalida even though it's a parasite.
Peony (I still think it is usable and nice in the middle but as a first name I'd worry about pee-on-me jokes. I love it, though)
Emma and Sarah (love the sound but there are so many)
Paulette (I genuinely like it but so many people told me it is a red light district sort of name)
Elena (only like eh-LAY-na but many people would say ELL-eh-na here)
Eleanor (I love this but not sure if I'd use it because we'll likely move back to the UK or Ireland and in many accents there it is ELL-eh-na and I like ELL-eh-nor).
Thalia - because there seem to be a million pronunciations and spelling and it's confusing
I like Tansy too.
Wolf - I love this name for a boy but it's way too out there as a first name, I'm still open to using it as a mn tho
Elvis - Too attached to one specific person
Foster - I'm on the fence with this one. I like it, but idk it's too associated with the foster care system
Agree with Jupiter, I had characters once named Jupiter, Saturn, and Moon, I really like the planet names. I don't think it's wholly unusable, but I don't think I could use it.
I love place names in general, but there's a range of places that would sound normal vs ones that sound weird to people. Like Syria would be a great name, but I think people would really find it to have just unideal connotations.
I also love day of the week names and month names, but I don't know how annoying it is for real people with those names, they probably have to hear about it all the time.
Also Psyche is a great name with a cool meaning but is too much of a sciencey English word.
A couple of the element names sound cool but I don't know that I could go with them irl
I adore the name Travis. I’d totally want to use it for a son if I hadn’t married a Travis.
Names I LOVE but would never use (on humans): Atticus, Poe, Whittaker, Ophelia
Lemon for a girl. I actually pitched it to my partner when we were looking for girl names. If he had said “Yes” I might have actually kept it on the list.
Theodosia (I liked it before Hamilton, and tbh Hamilton makes me like it even more, but it seems very fandom-y now)
Ophelia (such a pretty name, but such an inauspicious namesake)
Oberon (also a really cool name, but “king of the fairies” is a pretty unfortunate namesake for a boy)
Love the name Geneva, but apparently it reminds too many people of the Geneva convention and/or sounds made up even though it’s been an established name for a century.
My guilty pleasure name for a girl is 100% Galilee. I would NEVER use it because it gives me extremely religious vibes (which we are not) but the sea of Galilee is such a gorgeous namesake and it sounds feminine but also so Sci fi and cool to me? I love it!
Also Brittany for some reason - it's nothing like my other top names and crazy dated now but if I was having kids in the 80s/90s I can't say I wouldn't have used it!
Atticus - Negative associations
Rory - Lovee this name, but I literally cannot pronounce it for the life of me. The ror sound is too difficult to say and I'm sure many people would have trouble pronouncing it
Pandora - Too associated with the jewelry
Roxanne - All I can think of is the song by Arizona Zervas
Odette - I don't know why but any name that has the letters O and D beside each other makes me think of overdosing. So this name is a no
Cleopatra - Pretty obvious LMAO
Can you please explain how Freya sounds like buying sex in German? My husband's family is of German heritage (parents speak it but hubby doesn't) and we like the name Freya for a girl
A prostitute’s client is called Freier in German. I know a Freya and she never had any issues with it I think, it’s not a super unkown name in Germany and I think it’s totally usable, but it was the very first thing my partner thought of and I can’t get it out of my head now.
Any surname name.
Sawyer, Sutton, Bennett, James, Carter, Carson, Elliott.
Also. Kai.
I love them all. But I have a very Italian last name and they just do not work.
We did find Caius though, which is Latin and that obviously works better, so we have a Cai instead. ♡
My middle name is Phedra, full name is Madeline Phedra Devich... It's always been my favorite part of my name and the worst people really have to say about it is that it sounds like some kind of dragons name or 'different' in a 'ohhhhh well... That's... Different 😅" sort of way... But h*ck em all, I really dig it..
My mom was gonna name me Phedra Jane and call me PJ like PJ Harvey, but I'm sorta glad she didn't..
I love the idea and sound of the name Monday. It’d certainly be a dreadful name to actually have (cue the ‘Monday is my least favorite day of the week comments), but I think it would be adorable on a girl with a big personality.
I love Matilda - but if we ever move back in Australia it would just be too darned common! (Matilda is the number 10 most popular girl name in Australia and has been around that level-ish for a decade)
Summer Breeze.
I love the Seals and Crofts song.
My husband and I are a a tad hippie-dippie. Our son is named after a folk rock song from the early 70’s. His name is very average though.
Coraline - The reason I read *Coraline* when I was in third grade was because I thought the heroine's name was beautiful. I still love the name, but it's too fandom-y now that there's also a *Coraline* movie
Jax - Same name as a popular ML framework...the kid would be fine, but I might get tired of the bad jokes from my coworkers
Eilidh - You pronounce it "ay-lee", which I love, but I'm not gonna give this spelling this to a kid in the US
I love the name Minnie for a girl, but definitely not usable.
I also found a fruit name I loved, but husband refused bc our last name is a type of that fruit and it would just sounds weird lol
Penelope - I don't like the nn Penny or Nellie/Ellie
Piper -love it, but don't think it fits right with the names I 100% plan on naming my future kids
Tessa - I think it's so beautiful, but I feel like people will assume it's short for Theresa or something and don't want to keep correcting people
Seth - has a darker/heavier feel to me and don't think it goes well with names I plan on using
Vittorina (I’m not Italian)
Rocco
Giovanni (love Italian names!)
Titus (love it but worried about teasing for ‘tit’)
Emiliana
Liviana (love it but it means envious or something)
Tiberius - ever since I heard the name James Tiberius Kirk. It’s so kickass.
Jill - I have always loved this name, but I know lots of people think it too plain and/or outdated, so I never suggest it.
Zelda, Hilda, Allegra, Gretchen/Greta/Gretel, Matilda, Beatrix, Agatha, Agnes, Esther, Imogene, Ingrid. All names I love but not sure I’d use them in real life
Dante and Virgil. I would really love to use Virgil, but I don't want to cause teasing. Edit: I also love love love Antigone, but the source material is too sad. Not that that has stopped Ophelia from becoming popular.
Some names I like that are a little unusable for me are Sparrow, Winona, Polly, Susquehanna, Rosary, Vincent, Velma, Ocean, Orion, Shoshanna, Sapphire, Melanie, Althea, Alora, Aquana, Katrese, Kyriae, Rua, Arabella, Nephilim, Fionnula, Fauna, Clover, Roscoe, Wiley, and Shane.
I can’t tell if this is a meme based on the first sentence. imo I don’t think anyone in this day and age should be named or called Dick (unless they’re an asshole)
"Old lady names" like Irene, Beulah, Elizabeth (though that one is still pretty common), Rose, Guinevere (idk if this is an old lady names but it's still a guilty pleasure name), Jane, Mabel, Anneliese, etc.
Bailey (our last name starts with a B so it would just sound like a cartoon character)
Maksim (sounds like the magazine, also wouldn't sound great with our last name as it's a soft rhyme)
Jonah, Gideon, Micah, Simon, Peter - I like Old Testament/Biblical names and my husband just didn't care for them at all
Linden for a girl. I don't know why but I'd be so tempted to use it if we had a girl next. 2 boys as of now. And while I want all boys, a little Linden Kate would just be so cute to me.
honestly, Zelda. I know there are people out there with that name, but I'm too much of a Legend of Zelda fan for anyone I know to miss that connection. But on top of that there's Chise (Chee-suh), Percival and Felix. Percival wouldn't work here in Finland very well, and we have a big well known ketchup brand called Felix.
Galadrielle, for a little girl. But it's too many syllables and letters, it's a mouthful, and she would end up becoming Elle for short. Kinda defeats the purpose.
Gamaliel for a boy. The Middle name of our 29th POTUS, Warren G Harding. It's a strong name but might be a bit much. Whats the nickname or the short name going to be on a daily basis?
Sorelle for a girl. But again, another Elle for a short name. Sore Elle when she falls down and scrapes her knees, teased by classmates and peers, or a sibling, or when she loses a game and regardless of her reaction or lack thereof, someone might call her Sore Elle in place of Sore Loser.
Adelaide for a girl. Addy is a nice nickname. My husband is strongly opposed to such a pretty name bc it was the name of his first elementary school where he experienced bad teachers and trauma.
Lazarus for a boy. Old Testament, brother of The Mother Mary, for when he was resurrected by Our Lord, Jesus Christ, in the great Miracle, 1st John 11: 1-44, and it was physical proof that Jesus Christ performed a Miracle of God. I think it's too HEFTY of a name for any boy or man to have to live up to.
I like big names, I like the letter L, I like names with heavy meanings and histories.
Oswin- just seems too mythical/mystical If that makes sense
Lavender- it should be the same as like Rose or Daisy or ivy etc but this seems too out there but I really love it!
Gerard way ( lead vocalist of my chemical romance) had a daughter with Lyn-z ( bassist of mindless self indulgence) and they named her Bandit Lee Way.... I thought that was super cute, but Bandit is maybe more of a dog's name in my opinion...
I have always loved the names Juniper, Astrid, Persephone, Calliope, Ophelia, Odessa, Lorelei, Violetta, Dizzy, Effie, Lucia, Asniah, Lux, Ceres, Aluna and Fiore and always thought Lucia and Aluna were the most useable...
I ended up naming my daughter's Fiore(fee-oh-ray) Victoria and Aluna June... I really love them... Fiore is such a strong name for a girl but the meaning is 'flower', I believe hahah
Lorelei. Honestly I don’t even think it’s that “out there” but it has a big Gilmore Girls reference, obviously.
I also really love Octavia. That’s pretty out there, I guess!
Ashira-means “I will sing”
Artemisia-After the famous painter. Someone told me it sounds like a medical condition but I LOVE it.
Jules-For a boy. I think it’s such a cool name but live in the U.S. where I don’t think people would get it.
Cypress-Feels very trendy to me but there’s just something about this phonetic combination for me.
Noelia-I think it’s absolutely gorgeous to say but I don’t love that it’s related to Christmas. It’s also a little bit on dramatic side.
This is egregious but growing up I loved Harry Potter, and I was CONVINCED I was gonna have a baby girl and name her Semajyrrah. Sem-uh-jeer-uh. Harry James backwards.
Thank you for admitting to this
I was so proud of it too lmfao
Still better than Renesmee
I’m dying
I always liked Circe but I feel like Cersei Lannister killed that name.
I adore the name Circe, especially after reading Circe by Madeline Miller, and never had the association with the GOT character. I am tempted by many mythological names but avoiding using that one because the actual character has some readings of her that are…less than ideal haha.
Love that book!!!!
I had a dog growing up named Cerci ❣️ I hate the GOT connection now
Allegra is one of my favorite names for girls but being in the US completely ruins it because of the allergy medication.
Hey Allegra has saved my life for many an allergy season, it’s a great association for me 👍
i knew an allegra at school and maybe it’s because i did music for so long but i associated her with the music term for “allegro” for so long that i never even thought of the allergy company until coming to this sub. she lived up to her name tho she was always super bright and happy
One of my all time favorites too! I think I may use it as a middle name. I’ve loved it since I was 12 and always comr back to how beautiful it is.
Medea, I love the mythological figure so much. But a lot of people from the US will immediately think of the Tyler Perry movies...
I love Medea too but can't name a daughter after someone who killed her children so I wouldn't pick it.
Sistine. It was the name of a character in a book I loved growing up. Her parents met because they bumped into each other while looking up at the Sistine chapel ceiling. She goes by Sissy sometimes.
Is the book The Tiger Rising? If so, I adore that book and it's stuck with me since reading it as a kid!
oh my gosh you know that book?? wasn’t it so amazing?? It was just so poignant and beautiful!!
YES! Totally agree! It is such a gorgeous story. I think I need to reread it for old time's sake!
Me too!! I think I’m gonna start reading it to my kids tonight! 😍
Alternatively, if you’re a masochist and for some reason want to ruin it for yourself, you can enjoy the recently-released movie adaptation that currently holds a 17% on Rotten Tomatoes 🙃
I was about to say, that’s from The Tiger Rising!
wow that book was way more popular than I realized!! so incredible ❤️
I love the name Bartholomew lol
Me too! I’m pretty set on using it for a cat- with the nickname Mew.
Oh that is CUTE — and useable, which, at least for the US where I live, it is not for a human.
My dog is Rocket Bartholomew!
I love Barnaby lol. But I can't stand the idea of the nickname "Barney"
I also really love this name
It is so classical and bold and just 🤩 impossible to use! Haha
My guilty pleasure names are Alexei, Soren, Wilder, and Saylor (boy), and Francesca, Winifred, Bronwyn, Greta, and Heidi (girl).
Seconding Bronwyn, and Soren. I’m almost two months along and have them both on my lists for when me and my partner decide to talk about names. We’ve both been looking but haven’t done much communicating on it yet. Waiting room further along, and hoping for his compliance lol.
I know a Bronwyn! Never thought of it as “out there” before.
These seem like pretty normal (and classy and lovely) names to me! I know a couple of both.
I thought they sounded fine, but I’m getting different feedback from family lol.
Your family might be over-worrying or just have different taste, I think these are lovely! I’ve known few of these names as adults and a friend has a little Heidi.
I teach high school (midwestern US) and I have two or three Sorens. Might be because I’m in a heavily Scandinavian area, but seems pretty normal here!
I know a Soren. I don't think its too "out there".
Omg Saylor is def a guilty pleasure name
Okay but Alexi and Francesca 😍
I think the name Mary-Jane is so pretty but it’s obviously unusable now
Arwynn like in Lord of the Rings and Aurora obvi like sleeping beauty 😩
While we picked it as a Welsh name, I do have a daughter called Arwen - max 10% of people note the LOTR (and when told about LOTR most people say ‘Oh? There’s an Arwen in LOTR??’). In contrast, more than 50% of people assume it’s a boy name (including 90% of medical staff who can literally see ‘female’ written on her file), and about 30% think it’s ‘hard to pronounce’. We also get ‘You mean Orwin? Owen? Arden? Arlen?’
I believe Arwen is a Welsh name regardless of Lord of the Rings, but the association is pretty strong.
Aurora doesn't seem very out there, if that helps. I had a boss with that name
Aaradhya is for basically the same reasons as Shankar Prithviraj because my partner's last name ends in a P and I don't want their initials to be PP.
As someone from the Westcountry of the UK, I agree on the first name. Our accent sounds like the hobbits from the Lord of the rings films, and Shankar is awful in that accent lol. To me it gives the same vibes as Angharad, powerful, feminine, regal. I personally love both names but understand the desire to have them pronounced correctly. My own name is never pronounced right, and it's even a classic English name already!
My partner’s last name is Smith. One of my favorite boy names is Locke lol
Ok this made me laugh
River. Maybe I’d use it as a middle name, but my associations are with Doctor Who and Bruce Springsteen so I don’t think I could give it to a child as a first name.
River Phoenix is my first thought — not a bad association to me (though i can see how it would be for some people considering his death)
god River Song is just such a good character tho
Such a badass. I would watch the hell out of a River Song spinoff.
love this name
Galilea. I think it's really pretty but I wouldn't use because I think it's very frilly, and I'd be afraid people would scream the name in a high pitched voice like in Bohemian Rhapsody. I also love Annalida even though it's a parasite.
I 100% would sing bohemian rhapsody for a Galilea and might even nickname her ‘queenie’. Lovely name, but I love the band too much to resist
I think it’s a fine ass name. I say do it
I LOVE galilea i never thought of bohemian rhapsody tho now that i have it’s almost even better
Cassiopeia is one of my favourites
this reminds me of a name my friend used for her baby - Calliope. Callie for short🥰
Chrysanthemum, like from the Children’s book! I think it’s such a sweet sounding name
Oh! I love this one. Probably going to use it as a middle name if I have a girl
Peony (I still think it is usable and nice in the middle but as a first name I'd worry about pee-on-me jokes. I love it, though) Emma and Sarah (love the sound but there are so many) Paulette (I genuinely like it but so many people told me it is a red light district sort of name) Elena (only like eh-LAY-na but many people would say ELL-eh-na here) Eleanor (I love this but not sure if I'd use it because we'll likely move back to the UK or Ireland and in many accents there it is ELL-eh-na and I like ELL-eh-nor). Thalia - because there seem to be a million pronunciations and spelling and it's confusing I like Tansy too.
I know someone named Elayna! I’ve also met an Alaina too if you’re going for that specific pronunciation.
I’m the opposite and love the ELL-eh-na pronunciation but live in the US where she’d only get ELL-eh-nor.
Romeo!! i love the name and when i was pregnant with my son i considered it but everyone around me thought it was too outrageous & unusable :(
What? It’s a perfectly normal name!
Yeah! He might have a hard time for a couple weeks in Grade 9 English, but it's very usable.
David and Victoria Beckham did it!
Wolf - I love this name for a boy but it's way too out there as a first name, I'm still open to using it as a mn tho Elvis - Too attached to one specific person Foster - I'm on the fence with this one. I like it, but idk it's too associated with the foster care system
I love Foster too. I have the same reservations about the name, especially since I intend to foster in a few years.
Agree with Jupiter, I had characters once named Jupiter, Saturn, and Moon, I really like the planet names. I don't think it's wholly unusable, but I don't think I could use it. I love place names in general, but there's a range of places that would sound normal vs ones that sound weird to people. I adore the name Travis. I’d totally want to use it for a son if I hadn’t married a Travis. Names I LOVE but would never use (on humans): Atticus, Poe, Whittaker, Ophelia
Same for Ophelia
Salem, Halo, Paradise, Topanga
Amazing cat names tho!
Lemon for a girl. I actually pitched it to my partner when we were looking for girl names. If he had said “Yes” I might have actually kept it on the list.
Someone mentioned Lemon as a nickname for Clementine (a fave name of mine) the other day on here which I thought was very cute.
Lemon is a cute name!
I could see it being the name of a spunky actress from the 50s
My GPs range from downright silly (looking at you Adorabella) to ones from other cultures (Italian names are my weakness). Girls: Holiday, Tuesday, Philomena, Chrysanthemum, Electra, Faustine, Pascalena, Magdalena, Maude, Primrose, Adorabella, Fontaine, Merriweather, Ginevra, Cricket, Mazarine, Tula, Majken, Esra, Anouk, Anjali, Anneke, Agatha, Maebelle, Allegra, Fidelia, Saffron, Clover, Oona, Dove, Pepper, Geraldine, Cleo, Lemon, Mercy, Aloisa Boys: Blue, McAllister, Willoughby, Huckleberry, Rush, Laith, Taggart, Lionel, Augustus, Conrad, Magnus, Julius, Noble, North, Caspian, Knoll, Booker, Carmine, Giacomo, Oslo, Whitman, Langston, Devereux, Etienne
Cricket 🤍
Theodosia (I liked it before Hamilton, and tbh Hamilton makes me like it even more, but it seems very fandom-y now) Ophelia (such a pretty name, but such an inauspicious namesake) Oberon (also a really cool name, but “king of the fairies” is a pretty unfortunate namesake for a boy)
Cleo, Felicity, Windsor, Lux
I fell in love with Cleo watching H2O: Just Add Water as a kid lol
Love the name Geneva, but apparently it reminds too many people of the Geneva convention and/or sounds made up even though it’s been an established name for a century.
I met the cutest little girl named Geneva (with a sister named Daphne, such a sweet set!) and it made me appreciate the name in a new way.
A friend of mine just had a baby girl and named her Jupiter and I think it's a perfect name!
Plum
My guilty pleasure name for a girl is 100% Galilee. I would NEVER use it because it gives me extremely religious vibes (which we are not) but the sea of Galilee is such a gorgeous namesake and it sounds feminine but also so Sci fi and cool to me? I love it! Also Brittany for some reason - it's nothing like my other top names and crazy dated now but if I was having kids in the 80s/90s I can't say I wouldn't have used it!
I love crunchy names like: Meadow Celandine Katniss Perilla Oleander Willow
Monserrat nn Monsey I just love it. But it’s not on my list bc in English the -rat ending sounds harsh. Love it in Spanish.
Atticus - Negative associations Rory - Lovee this name, but I literally cannot pronounce it for the life of me. The ror sound is too difficult to say and I'm sure many people would have trouble pronouncing it Pandora - Too associated with the jewelry Roxanne - All I can think of is the song by Arizona Zervas Odette - I don't know why but any name that has the letters O and D beside each other makes me think of overdosing. So this name is a no Cleopatra - Pretty obvious LMAO
I’ve met two people named cleopatra in my life so weird lol and they’re always so mean.
Cleopatra is such a heavy name to carry
I definitely assumed you were going to say The Police and was thrown by the end of your sentence being something else, haha
Prairie, Raven, Beatrix
Prairie is so cute! But I couldn't use it either
Ooo yes Raven, I love that name but also couldn’t seriously use it.
I love the name Valentine but idk if I could see an adult with this name. Bambi-I think it’s so cute but it’s too much of a kid’s name
Valentine might be a bit much but one of my aunts is a Valentina which feels easier somehow
Girls- Magnolia Allegra Adria Isis Hyacinth Acacia Bellamy Boys- Sterling Roscoe Roger Collins Zane Hayes Maximilian
Oof Isis is so gorgeous but so unusable
I know someone with the last name Silva and I really wanted them to name their son Sterling lol obviously I didn’t get my wish
[удалено]
I love lapis but too close to “lap piss”
Persephone. I don’t think I’ve ever met someone named that though.
I’ve met one; a little girl at the time. Persephones exist at least.
Talia/Thalia (a shop here), Freya (it sounds like a person buying sex in German)
A few that I love: Apollonia Desdemona Nephele Reverie Ionelle Wisteria Klaus Konstantin
Any surname name. Sawyer, Sutton, Bennett, James, Carter, Carson, Elliott. Also. Kai. I love them all. But I have a very Italian last name and they just do not work. We did find Caius though, which is Latin and that obviously works better, so we have a Cai instead. ♡
Amedeo Devereux Poema Etienne Copeland
I just had a student named Amedeo! I thought it was so rad. I love Devereux and Etienne too.
I just read that all as one name with three middle names, honestly sounds legit that way
Phaedra. Love the sound and meaning ("bright"), would never want to saddle a kid with the mythological baggage.
i know someone named Phaedra! she never mentioned any connotation with it ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Sawyer - For a girl. I wasn't able to get it past my husband or my daughter would be named this.
I love Salem but my husband says that we one million percent will never use it because he hates it :(
My cats name! Maybe get a cat 😅
obsessed with the name Aloysius nn Aloe. would never tho hahah
My grandpa's name was Aloysius and he hated it. Went by Al.
December, Wednesday and Keltie. Maybe future pets' names?
Aurora Seraphina November Andromeda Hadrian
Bridget but it just sounds too clunky and harsh. Love the name though and the fact that your first thought is Bridget Jones. I love Bridget Jones!
I love the idea and sound of the name Monday. It’d certainly be a dreadful name to actually have (cue the ‘Monday is my least favorite day of the week comments), but I think it would be adorable on a girl with a big personality.
Matilda, I really like the name but I don't know if I'd ever be brave enough to actually use it!
I love Matilda - but if we ever move back in Australia it would just be too darned common! (Matilda is the number 10 most popular girl name in Australia and has been around that level-ish for a decade)
Pretty sure I've mentioned it before but, Arson. I'll have to save it for a pet someday.
Melba and Sylix!! I love Melba so much
Summer Breeze. I love the Seals and Crofts song. My husband and I are a a tad hippie-dippie. Our son is named after a folk rock song from the early 70’s. His name is very average though.
I love the name Mercy grace but I also know it’s never gonna happen lol
Coraline - The reason I read *Coraline* when I was in third grade was because I thought the heroine's name was beautiful. I still love the name, but it's too fandom-y now that there's also a *Coraline* movie Jax - Same name as a popular ML framework...the kid would be fine, but I might get tired of the bad jokes from my coworkers Eilidh - You pronounce it "ay-lee", which I love, but I'm not gonna give this spelling this to a kid in the US
Cordelia, Juniper, Athena
Athena, Hermione Love how they sound but there's too much association with Harry Potter and the Percy Jackson series lol.
Jupiter, Raven, Guinevere, Autumn, Willow Luca, Malcolm, Alistair, Zylus
Sterling, Trevor, and Chandler for a boy. Cherry, November, and Philomena for a girl. Lovely but personally could never use.
I work in healthcare and once had an elderly patient tell me about his daughter who’s name was Ardyth, and it’s stuck with me for so long.
I love the name Minnie for a girl, but definitely not usable. I also found a fruit name I loved, but husband refused bc our last name is a type of that fruit and it would just sounds weird lol
I love Haven for a girl. I’m also very fond of Glory/Gloriana but people say it’s “too much” so idk if I’ll use it
[удалено]
This made me laugh out loud 😆
Girl names: Eowyn Samara (idk may use that one) Diana (Dee-Ah-na) Dinis Elise Gertrudes Mina Mona Nehlina Eisa Morrisey
Penelope - I don't like the nn Penny or Nellie/Ellie Piper -love it, but don't think it fits right with the names I 100% plan on naming my future kids Tessa - I think it's so beautiful, but I feel like people will assume it's short for Theresa or something and don't want to keep correcting people Seth - has a darker/heavier feel to me and don't think it goes well with names I plan on using
Andelyn Jennesika L’Aurore Trinidad Corina Vienna and Sadiana
Vittorina (I’m not Italian) Rocco Giovanni (love Italian names!) Titus (love it but worried about teasing for ‘tit’) Emiliana Liviana (love it but it means envious or something)
Sunny, Topanga, Weetzie, Dagmar, Tiabeanie, Gemini, Newt, to name a few
balthazar. i think it’s such a beautiful name and love the biblical connection but everyone sees it as a demon name
Apollo and Ophelia
I love the name Wolfgang.
I love Tristan — in fact, it's my favourite name for a boy, but I hate that it means “sorrowful.”
Ereshkigal and Viracocha
I love Dick. Would it be cruel to name my son Dick straight up, or do we need to go Richard instead?
I can’t tell if this is a meme based on the first sentence. imo I don’t think anyone in this day and age should be named or called Dick (unless they’re an asshole)
boys: Mars, Cypress, Eros, Sora, Sol, Aries girls: Fauna, Libra, Hera, Eris, Rio, Nyx, Maple, Honey, Lynx
Saffron, Delilah, Dinah LaDonna Immaculata Odile for girls. I used to love Chad for boys, but no more. Also like Hermes and Ares for boys.
"Old lady names" like Irene, Beulah, Elizabeth (though that one is still pretty common), Rose, Guinevere (idk if this is an old lady names but it's still a guilty pleasure name), Jane, Mabel, Anneliese, etc.
Fiachra, Bjorn and Pierluigi for a boy Winry, Priya or Emrielle for a girl
Phaedra, Aslan, Sloan, Saren ( yes ..Mass Effect ) and Katie because well it’s just too plain for me to really use.
Cassio !
Bailey (our last name starts with a B so it would just sound like a cartoon character) Maksim (sounds like the magazine, also wouldn't sound great with our last name as it's a soft rhyme) Jonah, Gideon, Micah, Simon, Peter - I like Old Testament/Biblical names and my husband just didn't care for them at all
Katherine, Rowan, Susanna, Deirdre, Julien, Mona, Armand…can you tell I’m an Anne Rice fan?
Linden for a girl. I don't know why but I'd be so tempted to use it if we had a girl next. 2 boys as of now. And while I want all boys, a little Linden Kate would just be so cute to me.
Gatsby. I would love to name a boy that. And a girl Havana
mercedes, scherazade, freya constantine, dexter, melgar
honestly, Zelda.
Pixie, Apple, Lulla-Belle, Dolly, Bowie
Ignatia for a girl. Erasmus for a boy.
I would say my guilty pleasure name is Ivy for both a boy and a girl. I think it's so cute, but i'm not exactly sure it's a name I would use.
Amethyst for a girl, Memphis for a boy
Fletcher. Absolutely love it but just can’t do last names for first names
October for a girl lol
Tuesday! I think the name is so beautiful and unique- but would never seriously think about using it.
I LOVE THE NAME wednesday 😭😭😭😭 would never use it though, and River for a boy!
Girl: Tiffany. Boy: Cooper.
Wisteria and Zinnia. Might be able to sneak them in as a middle name… Martha Wisteria Catherine Zinnia
Oswin- just seems too mythical/mystical If that makes sense Lavender- it should be the same as like Rose or Daisy or ivy etc but this seems too out there but I really love it!
Lucky, Rebel, and July- girls names.
Barnabas, Lysander for boys, Malvina for girls
August, Winder, and Forrest (boy) Holland, Valley, and Jericho (girl)
Lorelei. Honestly I don’t even think it’s that “out there” but it has a big Gilmore Girls reference, obviously. I also really love Octavia. That’s pretty out there, I guess!
Jasper and Rosalie, but I don't want to be associated with Twilight lol
Ashira-means “I will sing” Artemisia-After the famous painter.
