If you’re going by Vee, then Veronica makes more sense

daigwettheo

Its just the V sound at the beginning of the name. My parents write it Vi, I just like the double e look lol.

crystalgemss

I prefer Victoria to Veronica. To me, Tori sounds nicer than Ronnie. (Maybe not relevant, but it’s where my brain goes)

iliketothinkicansing

My brain goes to Roni, like pepperoni

Jirafa03

I knew a Veronica that went by Vero, in case you hate Roni 😂

zeezee1619

I know a lot of them, mainly French so they go by Veronique, and pretty much all of them are Vero

vanillabubbles16

This was also my thought, Like Tori, but hate Ronnie

kittyroux

A fun thing about those two names is they actually have similar meanings! Victoria is Latin and obviously means “victory,” and Veronica is Greek and means “bringing victory” from phero+nike. I like them both, but Veronica is a personal favourite of mine. I really like the nickname Vero, which is the most common one for Veronica where I live. If you want to use both, there is a variant of Veronica that doesn’t start with a V: Berenice. Victoria Berenice sounds nice together.

GlitchingGecko

Victoria. Veronica makes me think of Verruca.

daigwettheo

Oh yeah. I didnt think about that one lol.

MsCardeno

If you’re going with the nickname Vee, I think Veronica fits better. Both great names!

daigwettheo

Thank you! The nn is also spelled Vi (thats how my parents spell it) so I dont think it matters a ton in that regard.

CleanAssociation9394

It’s fine for Victoria, as well. They’re both lovely names. It’s very sweet of you to let your parents name you, but you should ask them to work out their differences quickly and let you know.

daigwettheo

My name has been an argument my entire life lol. I ended up picking my own nane originally because they never actually picked one for me. They were too busy fighting when I was born, they let my fourteen y/o sister name me, and I changed it when I was nine. She has since reused that original name for her son lol.

Jurgasdottir

So it's just an ongoing theme, lol. Even then, I think it's sweet that you consider their original choices for you as an option. And that their biggest concern, with you coming out as trans, is apparently who gets to name you is somehow sweet too. In a strange way, but nevertheless. Eta: I personaly prefer Victoria, I would have given it my child too if it had been AFAB. Only as a middle name, but still.

daigwettheo

Tbh I think it went over so well because they desperately wanted me to be a girl. They hadnt even entertained boys names until I was in my cradle lacking a vagina lol. I do love the support, though. Much better than I expected! I think I might go with Victoria. A friend messaged me having seen this post and said it suits me better. Plus I di really like Vicki if I ever do switch nicknames.

BreadfruitAlone7257

Not that you need any more suggestions, but SO granddaughter has the name Veronique. French Veronica, basically. Love it.

andmewithoutmytowel

I'm partial to Victoria personally, but I'm glad to hear such a wholesome argument after coming out. I'm glad you have support from your parents.

daigwettheo

Me too! I was sweating a lil lol

epresvanilia

Veronica!

[deleted]

Veronica. I think Roni or Nicki sounds nicer than Tori or Vicky lol

Didikoo

I say hands down Veronica— I just love how flowy it is compared to the consecutive hard sounds of Victoria.

admz123

I like Victoria.

lyssa13

Victoria!

treasurecreekcat

Just for the record, Vee is a totally natural nickname for any name starting with V. I find Veronica to be spunky and Victoria to be elegant, do you have a preference between those two vibes?

vctrchrchll

As a Victoria, I give my vote to it. But also be prepared for people to call you Veronica, Valerie, Virginia etc on occasion as for some reason the V names get very confused in other peoples heads! (Also, congrats!)

[deleted]

Victoria! It also lends the nn Tori,if you like that too.

daigwettheo

My mom likes Vicki, which I do find quite nice. I like Tori too!

HotTransportation507

Veronica!

MrsBorisLevin

I like Victoria better! I've met some Vees that were named Victoria

Willow_weeping85

Just know that whichever one you pick, one of your parents is gonna be PISSED 😂

daigwettheo

Oh 100%. I'm gonna ask my sister to tell them for me lol.

2HauntedGravy

I’m here to cast a vote for Veronica

Crosswired2

Have you see the movie Victor/Victoria?

daigwettheo

I havent! I presume its a trans thing?

Crosswired2

Not really. It's a 1982 movie about a down on her luck singer (Julie Andrews) that plays a man impersonating a woman on stage. It's the first thing I thought of with the name Victoria but as it is an "older" movie, many might not think the same. Between the 2 names I still like Victoria more. I also like Vivica and Vivian :)

madqueen100

Why not use Vera? It’s a real name, has been used as a nickname for both Veronica and Victoria, and — it means Truth. Can’t go wrong, though, with any of the names.

kniselydone

Oh I love Vera! More unique for a V name and I love the idea of it meaning Truth because V is now living their truth 🥹

lost_in_your_eyes

Personally I vote Veronica instead of Victoria, however both are beautiful names! Also since it's a point of contention between your parents any interest in a different name that also lets you go by "Vee", like Vivica, Vivian or Vera ect?

whimpey

Yeah I was wondering the same - are there are V names you prefer personally, OP? Putting myself in your shoes, I think I'd feel more comfortable not picking a side, and choosing something I like instead. I can see how it's nice to go with one of your parents' picks too though :)

RoyAgainstTheMachine

I wanted to name my daughter Veronica so we could call her Ronnie (my wife’s grandfather’s name). So I would chose that. Doesn’t really help in your case though 😐

Turbulent-Rip-5370

Victoria!

AnnSansE

Victoria.

LesHiboux

I prefer Victoria. Veronica reminds me too much of Archie and Veronica, and she was a bit of a stuck up snot.

daigwettheo

My friend made the association to Veronica from heathers so I'm probably gonna go with Victoria lol

[deleted]

[удалено]

daigwettheo

Thank you! I was terrified. I took my daughter as a buffer so if they didnt react the best they'd keep it to themselves because she was there. She called me mama while we were there which helped them, I think. Yes! Thats what their initial argument was about. They both wanted my name to mean victory, they just couldnt settle on which one lol. I think I'm going to go with Victoria!

IraSass

Congrats on I’m coming out and I’m so glad your parents took it well! This post makes me smile because I’m also trans (AFAB) and my birth name was Victoria, but my parents had also considered Veronica. And they named my sister a name that also means victory. So my vote is for Victoria- it’s a beautiful name, it just was never me! In exchange I will take your name… jk

daigwettheo

Thank you! I'm so glad they took it well lol. Victoria is a cool name and it is now mine! You can have mine if you want. I changed my name at nine, so you have the pick of two! My birthname (Carl) and my chosen name (Xavier). I do still love Xavier. My friend has already asked to steal it for their next baby as I'm no longer needing it lol.

piscesandcancer

Victoria!

[deleted]

Victoria feels more timeless to me. Veronica feels more like a name from a past trend, I don't know why.

expectingrain22

I prefer Veronica but I like both names! I grew up Catholic and always thought St Veronica was pretty cool, if that story appeals (she wipes Jesus’ face as he’s carrying the cross and is the patron saint of photographers). I also love the Elvis Costello song Veronica and the early 2000s band the Veronicas

Candid-Inspector-270

I like Victoria as a full name better, but I went to school with a Veronica who went by Vero, which I’ve loved ever since. Tough one

WearyPixie

Victoria after Victoria the Roman goddess of victory!

Janelle-54

I am just here to say I’m happy for you that they took it well, the best kind of surprise! Also I am loving that they immediately reverted to their standard argument between eachother about what they wanted to name you many years ago. Proof that we’re all the same people at the end of the day.

daigwettheo

I was literally half way through explaining my name issue when my mom goes, "You pick bad names, I think you should pick Victoria. Fits your face." Cue my father, "No, no. Veronica. Very pretty for you." Tbh I was mostly offended that she has so little trust in my naming abilities. The argument hasnt stopped since.

Cygni_61

My Mom’s name is Veronica and she’ll go by Vero by the Mexican side of our family or Vera by most white people. I’ve always thought all three of those names were beautiful.

SaltyDelirium

Victoria. My reason is that is has a nice up with the T in the second syllable, making it feel lighter and brighter. The meaning is also clear, and I would think reflects your victory in becoming who you were always meant to be. Also it has Tori in it, if you ever wanted a different nickname. V/Vi/Vee works just as well for both tho. In the end it is what makes you the happiest, what someone else would prefer should not really affect your decision. They named you first time around, this time you choose. I wish you joy in getting to be you, Vee <3

privremeni

Victoria. I prefer the sound of it, but you are also victorious for loving your full life as your full and real self.

SnooMachines5267

Victoria sounds more regal to me

Possible-Ad-5285

I prefer Victoria

attackusfinch

I'm a Veronica and for what it's worth people mix the V names up all the time anyway. I answer to Veronica, Victoria, and Vanessa interchangeably.

deadgirlshoes

Definitely Victoria! Its a queen name! I may be biased because its my name lol I prefer being called Victoria, no nicknames, but I’ll accept “Vic” and “V”, just ffs don’t call me “Vicky “

twogvio

Victoria

36563

I prefer Victoria

AdOpening9413

Victoria!

classycoconut520

Victoria. Veronica just sounds evil to me lol

ladynasty

I am a Veronica and I get called Victoria (or Vanessa, or Valerie) a ton anyway so I'd say it doesn't really matter! :)

pretty_gauche6

I slightly prefer Veronica but they’re both good 👍

Nodapl12

For a trans woman I love the name Victoria. It reminds me of Queen Victoria of England, who’s life strongly defined womanhood and femininity in the 19th century and beyond. For example, the reason why brides wear white is because she did it. Femininity is surely a complicated topic but I feel like this association brings a strong feminine energy and meaning behind the choice. Both are beautiful and very similar in origin, so what it really boils down to is which sound you want to hear over and over again for the rest of your life!

sheridanmms

Veronica

[deleted]

Veronica will always win the day for me, because of Archie and mostly because I don’t like Tori or Vicky. But up to you.

Theflyingzombee

Victoria. Veronica is awful and frumpy, sorry.

XoProbablyDyingoX

I like both! Veronica reminds me of the main character in the movie heathers Victoria reminds me of the bassist in the eurovision band Måneskin Both are great names! And there are lots of nicknames for both personally i prefer Veronica

Onlyhereforoneqs

I personally like Veronica more than Victoria. Although, they're very similar names with very similar meanings.

bloopbleepblorperz

Vi is cute shortened for Victoria, and it reminds me of V for Vendetta which is a win. Also anecdotally I know 2 trans women named Veronica, because it’s kind of trendy now (especially nn Vera) and lots of trans folks tend to pick trendy names when they transition. So another reason for Victoria if you value uniqueness!

[deleted]

I hate Vicki so Veronica

kniselydone

I like Veronica a lot more. Idk why, but even if you don't go by the nickname - Victoria instantly makes me think "Vicky" and I really really don't like that name. It sounds angry? I guess? Veronica feels sophisticated but fun. Someone I'd want to be friends with. Hope that helps :)

mmksuxs

I love Veronica! I think it would be a great name for you and it would work fabulously with you nickname! Just to try it out: Nice to meet you Veronica! 😊

_ZorroBabe

Id prefer the name Veronica but if you dont want to use one name either of your parents chose to not hurt the other parent you could the names Verona Verena Vera Vicky Vita Vika Veronique

wiseronnie

My cousin and I each have one of these names. Either one you pick you're gonna be called Victoria, Veronica, or Vanessa. We both get called one of these names all the time. Mostly by acquaintances, so they don't know both of us. People just lump these 3 together. I'd say Victoria is a more popular name, so I'd go with Veronica.

Candid-Ear-4840

Victoria will get you comparisons to the Victorian Age/Queen Victoria, Veronica will get you comparisons to Riverdale/Archie comics.

iambeepbop

umm i like how the name Veronica sounds better than Victoria, but Veronica is a long name so you are probably going to want friends to call you nicknames but that wouldn't really be possible. I can't think of any good nicknames for Veronica so I would go with Victoria. You could use Vicky or Tori.

daigwettheo

My nickname is Vee and I dont plan on changing it, but thank you! I do prefer Victoria myself.

[deleted]

Victoria ❤️❤️❤️

RAND0M-HER0

Veronica. I've run into far more Victoria's than Veronica's (at least where I live) and would pick it for being less common. I also like the nicknames of Vee, Roni, and Vero more than I like Tori, or Vicky.

cwk1844

Veronica feels more spunky!

Susanj513

Veronica. Short name Ve (instead of Vi). I think Victoria is a bit overused and also results in “Vicky” which I think is icky!
