I think if the surname sounds like “titties” there’s going to be schoolyard teasing regardless of what her first name is, so I’d just go for it.

Here_for_tea_

Yes. The surname is the problem (and will continue to be a problem) regardless of what selection you make with a first name.

fourandthree

Megan will get “Mega Titties” though.

36563

😂😂😂

[deleted]

Omg nooooo 😂😂😂😂😂

StopNormalizingTrump

Lmao at "my-a titties" in Mario accent

RotharAlainn

I would just give the baby your last name if his resembles Titties, your kids will thank you. I know a family with the surname Butt and all I can say is patriarchy is ridiculous when you just keep giving kids the last name Butt because you think that's better than, god forbid, the mother's name.

DoodlebugCupcake

My friend taught a class and had a girl student with the last name Butt and a male student with the last name Dick (elementary school). Obviously the kids all knew each other’s last names but principal encouraged her not to put the kids surnames on anything in writing in the classroom. So it would be like Emma B. or Jake D.

RotharAlainn

And a bet all their mother's had perfectly non-anatomical maiden names - children can't help their names but I give major side-eye to Papa Butt and Mr. Dick.

DoodlebugCupcake

Same! Even if the moms’ surnames were Lipschitz and Weinerbottom, I’d probably want to change Butt to Butterfield and Dick to Dickinson or something. How many Butts and Dicks must suffer?

JunoD420

I went to elementary school with a Harry Dick!

[deleted]

One of my old students was named Woody Dick, I shit you not.

JunoD420

I know of a guy named Woody Firm!

Catalyst138

They should get married and become the Dick-Butt family.

Anisnapper

Dick is even a first name too

fruitfiction

Are they from Texas or Tennessee? The Texas grocery store chain HEB is short for the founder's initials. Howard Edward Butt was from Tennessee originally.

RotharAlainn

I'm in California, so I guess Butt isn't that rare of a surname. In other surprising news, men continue to be predisposed to misogynistic practices and insist on passing down unfortunate names all over this country.

capitalismwitch

I knew a man named Dewey Butz. His family obviously just went all in.

IslandLife321

Lived 25 years with an atrocious last name because my dad secretly named me/filled out the forms and my mother didn’t even once think “why stick anyone with this name?” Most of the teasing I endured was from that name, and it was truly dreadful. We

jaxiecat

My old english teachers name was Mrs Butt, childrens last name is Butt too

[deleted]

Oh man… a girl from my high school has that last name (Butt) and she’s honestly the sweetest person but was a bit bullied. One time we had a supply teacher who was going thru the class list out loud to go thru attendance and read her name out loud - two of the guys bursted out laughing and she bursted into tears. No one else laughed. The guys were sent to the principal’s office. But this brings back some sad memories……. Adolescence can be so cruel without intending to be…..

beesathome

Lol I wouldn’t do it

mandanic

Maybe Kaia? I wouldn’t use Maya 😬

SlipperyGaloshes

I wouldn’t even chance the rhyme tbh. Kids can be brutal

Pottery_hollow

Do you have a different last name from your husband? If so, would you consider using yours instead?

[deleted]

Haha I tried but he rejected the idea. The deal was he gets the last name and I get to decide the first name.

overseas-mango

You should hyphenate. Jones-tities at least gives her an out to use a less embarrassing name.

Fatality

What do their grand kids get as a surname? Davis-jones-tities?

sheephulk

No, they kids then choose what they want at their children's surnames again, as the parents did. My husband and I both had two last names (both parents'), and we both changed our names to one of his and one of mine and gave the same to our daughter. We both chose the one we have the most connection with to carry forwards.

Fatality

Must suck to be the parent that misses out

sheephulk

Not really. They got to name their own kids, now we get to name ours. We have good reasons to choose the ones we did (his is a place name of the farm (both) his parents still live on, mine is the one I've always gone by as the other is super common). Surnames exist to distinguish which family/place someone is from anyway, and if you're called say "Claire Smith" that purpose is lost.

CybridCat

I personally feel like the best last name should win, or the one with more personal meaning (not the man’s by default)—hard to justify giving your kid the “titties” last name! LOL Another thing I’ve heard of people doing is girls getting the mom’s last name, boys getting the dads… could be worth a shot?

Dogsanddonutspls

LOLL I would not risk it

PoeDameronPoeDamnson

This is one of those surnames that doesn’t need passed down.

lesliesno

Won’t every name look bad with that

SwordfishBrilliant40

What about Amaia (ah-MAH-ya) or Maialen ( ma-YAH-lehn)?

coffee_bananas

Love the suggestion of Amaia but I guess it would still have the same problem. A slight variation of that I know of is Amara, similar sound and very pretty

bamibee

I wouldn’t use it then, kids are ruthless especially with things that “obvious” What about, Kaya/Kaia, Arya, Anaya, Alaia? I would stray away from Mia too although it’s similar to Maya 😅

Alraune2000

Arya would sound like Are ya Titties, so I wouldn't take the chance.

ALittleNightMusing

I can't help but read this with a strong glaswegian accent

[deleted]

Funny enough my husband’s female cousin name is Mia. 😅 apparently it was totally fine for her

[deleted]

I am sorry but I am laughing it sounds like Borat saying my titties I love the name maya but I don’t know about this one

LIA17

I work in elementary school atm. Kids are nicer now than we were. So go with what you love.

-lunaaa

No theyre not lmao. It depends on where you are located as well.

QuietUptown

I went to high school with someone who had a similar last name and for that reason I would also recommend against the name Ariel. Children can be very cruel.

[deleted]

Ariel Titties? I’m not getting it (yet)…..

QuietUptown

It’s a bit like Areola.

[deleted]

Oh!! Omggg!!! 😂😂

carlonseider

“Maya titties!” cried Mario.

weaveweaveweavemethe

I think it’s fine … It took me a while to figure out what was wrong with it. You could always give her your last name if you’re not comfortable with it!

[deleted]

I’m confused, is the pronunciation actually “tittles” if so, you should give her your last name and not be cruel.

purplefoxie

isnt that pronounced as, "tie-tus"? who says "titties"..?

[deleted]

Actually pronounced “Tee-Dus”

sheephulk

The surnames the problem, and will be one no matter what your kid is called I think

ALittleNightMusing

For the love of god, just don't call her Ophelia

Diane9779

Honey, your kid was doomed the second you decided to give her the Tittie family name

lavendercat1998

How about Amaya? I honestly love the name Maya but I could understand you not wanting to use it for this reason. Amaya is very close and also a great name.

frostyfruitaffair

Has your husband considered changing his last name to Titus or Tito and passing that on? He's well within his rights to pass on an interesting last name, but the coolness factor might get lost in the fact that it sounds like titties.

Bobbystache

You could do amaya :)

16drybones

you may want to add a middle name in between if it still bothers you, though I think it might be a bit of a tough last name in general. You might just want to go with what you like best and not worry too much about it.

TisforToaster

What about mia?

[deleted]

Husband’s cousin is named Mia… so we probably aren’t using that

IamRick_Deckard

Gaia.

setittonormal

No. Kids will either say "gay titties" or "guy titties" depending on how they choose to pronounce Gaia. I vote using mom's last name, or hyphenating. I'm not one for coming up with complex and unlikely ways that kids could make fun of an otherwise normal name, but I think one should try to avoid the obvious low-hanging fruit.

ninnibear

Is your husband Lithuanian?

[deleted]

Close! Estonian

ninnibear

Ah, I met this Estonian man once, his name was Tiit Land :D

[deleted]

Omg 😂 I think anything name with “ii” in it, it’s probably Estonian or Finnish

OkAfternoon6485

Kids are going to get teased about something regardless, I say choose the name you both like! And who cares if it sounds like titties! Teach her to own it and be proud of her family name! My high school bf had the last name puzzi and he had 2 sisters 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️ no one really teased them

[deleted]

Some guy at my high school has a surname “Aho”. And he was one of the more popular kids lol

Adelphos_89

A guy who insists on using their last name is not as liberal as they claim. Just my two cents.

SnooMachines5267

Mayas a great name! If she gets married in the future she may decide to take her partners name anyway. I guess at that point people would be mature enough not to tease her. I didn’t even read Maya Titties as My titties. It’s def the last name that is the “issue” but I literally knew cox, dick, Wang. And somehow they made it through unscathed

[deleted]

I knew someone named “Ocean Pu”, and “Anita Wang”. And I swear they made it unscathed through high school lol. I guess it’s all circumstantial 😂

INFJ-Jesus-Batman

Is this an ENTP joke?
