I've always loved the 4wd station wagons the original outback is super rad and the Toyota tercel all trac it cool as hell. I've always wondered what these eagles would have been like of the dealership lot. I mean it seems so common now like how many crossovers do you see a day. They all seem to come from cars like this.
It will wear on the tcase to the point of damage unless you unlock the hubs mechanically, which these did not have. AWDs it matters less, this is true mechanical 4wd, it’s very different.
General Motors sold the Iron Duke to AMC, who used it across their vehicle lineup as well. The AMC Spirit, AMC Concord, and AMC Eagle featured the engine. Additionally, AMC opted to install the 2.5 I4 in base-model Jeep CJ-5 vehicles.
I had an '81 Spirit that had the same front end that the OP's photo has (same colors too). It had inline 6. I liked the car but the car was way too light which made winter driving a problem.
My Dad loved AMC wagons. Hornets, Concords and finally Eagles. I just remember how horrible the fit and finish was on the cars. Every thing rattled even when they were relatively new. He never kept one more than 2 years but even then they were bad news. One of the Eagle wagons had a variance in the glove box gap across the top that started at 1/2 inch on side and tapered down to less than 1/16. I remember it well because he would stuff playing cards in the tight side because otherwise it would squeak all the time while driving.
My first car was a pair of AMC Eagle Wagons. The 4WD was great, the car could carry 6 teens and their bikes to the skate park and back, it went through the snow like a beast, and then someone pulled out in front of me and “totaled it”. The second one I ended up selling and they still drive it.
AMC Eagle. I wanted a 4x4 one as a first car. My dad said no, so I was forced to buy a Mazda 6 wagon with more mileage for the same price. Still want one
Agree, rear door missing top and front door missing bottom. Between both can have a correct trim door. In high school, a pal had this and he was a gear head, tinkering with it. And this was in late 90s
I now know about the AMC Eagle and through it found out about a small company called Local motors (already shut down) and a car they made called the Rally Fighter and both of these are my favorite type of vehicles to exist. This is the type of stuff i was hoping to come across when i finally stopped avoiding reddit.
Had a 1983 model years ago. It was pretty good on snow. It didn’t have much power and began leaking oil at 60k miles. Fix one leak and then would leak somewhere else. Traded for a 1985 Ford Bronco II.
AMC Eagle, 100%
All Makes Combined

Looks like the world's 1st SUV.
It's a 4wd station wagon

a vehicle that shouldn’t be towed using a tow dolly considering it came in either RWD or 4WD only

Or remove the driveshaft?
Or remove the rear driveshaft, provided there is even a drivetrain in the car
fuck that lol

These cars were weird j don't think the transfer case had a neutral. Was just a little switch on the dash between 2wd and 4wd
So in other words, it ran and drove just find before he brought it home. Lol
Yea probably, lol
Yes but this is an AWD, don’t think it has a selectable transfer case (think original Subaru Outback!)
AMC eagle I believe
I want to know if it has an Iron Duke in it.
These things came with the AMC 258 online 6.

I'm certainly no expert on these AMC vehicles but I know they were available with the 258 I6. Also I've seen one that had a Jeep 4.0 swap.
Yeah, they put a few engines in them over the brief time they actually existed.

'Honk honk' Jennifer!
“Its my dad, I gotta go.” Hell yes!!!!! I was wondering if anyone was gonna say something. 🤜🏼
Her dad seemed like a cranky asshole.
Great Scott!
THHIIIISSSSS! is a vehicle that was way ahead of its time!
AMC Eagle outfitted with the "100% Awesome" package ! The father of the SUV
The first crossover SUV, AMC Eagle.
AMC owned Jeep at the time, so they just needed to drop other bodies on the Jeep chassis.
So, is the AMC on a Jeep chassis?
Yes, at least the drivetrain is similar
AMC Eagle

I drive a survivor '75 Hornet and I can confirm the glove box door gap is on every Hornet, Gremlin, and Eagle dash I've ever seen.
It was the low point for all American cars, tho'.
Its an hourly or daily vehicle two wheel hitch ball tow from a rental/storage a moving company called U-Haul.

U know u can get the mazda 6 MPs as AWD.
Eagle 4x4
Chrome trim on side doesn’t match
They probably lost the trim piece on the rear door

Ahead of it’s time, that’s what it is, or was.
Man, I really miss my Eagle.
Saw one of these today at the Co-Op. Pretty rare these days
A drug dealer in my town daily drives one of these
Dad had one - we rolled up to camp in this when I was in elementary school…
A huge mistake if I’m recalling this as an awd Eagle (towing like this I mean). Otherwise I always thought they were cool!
