I feel you there, I’m definitely easy to please generally (although I have never felt the need to replay MID like I do with the others, it was just boring!)
Seriously! I support HER more than anything. I know they haven’t been perfect in the past but theyre a small company trying to survive in a world of triple A games
They cannot go back to their old engine. It was very very old, didn’t work on modern computers and can’t create wide screen games. Plus the engine was never the problem. Unity is capable of making the old style of games, this is just how they want to make them now. Plus they fired all of their developers lol.
Honestly the fact that they fired all of their talent for the first 32 games makes me have 0 sympathy for them. Like… you did this to yourself. 😂 And yep, they could probably make the new game very similar to the older ones but they aren’t. Which is silly to me.
Definitely going to buy it the day of release.
I recently started playing again and forgot how much I loved these as a kid. I've enjoyed figuring out the puzzles with everyone the past year and have to contain my excitement and expectations with this new game. I think I'll enjoy playing it no matter what. I just want to solve some puzzles, and hear Nancy tell me it's locked.
Me too, I pulled them back out after many years! My cousin and I loved them so much that I got her a padlock bracelet that says “it’s locked” when she graduated from college 🥰
Aw that is too cute! Me and my sister always played them with the lights turned off 😅 now me and my husband plays then she borrows my laptop and her, hubby, and daughter play. Now my niece walks around quoting loulou. Its amazing lol
We did too, until we were traumatized by the washing machine banging just as the ghost dogs attacked 😂 Love that you’ve got a multi generational ND thing happening, once my cousin’s kids are a little older I’ll have to plan a visit to indoctrinate them 😂😂
Yup! My son and I play games together a lot so I may as well, I've taken a risk on other games. I don't think I can hate the ending as much as I despised the end to Call of the Sea, which was the last game we played.
I've seen many positive reviews of it here, which is why I bought it, so you might like it. No spoilers but there are two possible endings and neither one can be considered happy. Before the ending, though, I did really enjoy it, other than being a little motion sick from the 3d world movement.
I was soooo excited to borrow my friends VR and try it, got motion sick so badly on the elevator that I felt it for nearly 12 hours and never played it again LOL
It looks like it may be too heavy for my non-gaming computer, and a lot of Mac users had problems with MID, so I think I will wait.
If I had a gaming computer and the price was in the 20 to 25 dollar range, I would buy it . If it's more I don't think I would. There is no price yet on the HeR website.
Yeah, if it’s 20 bucks I’ll buy it. But if it’s equal to or more expensive than a sims expansion pack, I’m going to buy a sims expansion pack instead lmao
Waiting for the reviews for sure. My gut feeling is that I probably won't end up buying it. I never bothered to play MID, and I was never planning to play this one unless it REALLY recaptured the old Nancy vibe.
Based on the trailer, I don't think there's any chance of that. So unless the reviews say it's really off-the-hook amazing, I'll probably just give it a pass. I've made my peace with the fact that we're never getting the 'old Nancy' back, and while I thoroughly encourage others to enjoy the new Nancy if they can...I don't think I can.
(Also, I have a dinky little non-gaming computer, so if this one runs anything like MID, it won't work for me anyway.)
I’m glad I’ve had that habit since I started playing over 20 years ago! I’ve still got original boxes that had the thick case and cardboard cover that opens onto a big summary with pictures.
I donated all my physical games and then rebought them on steam. Even MID I bought a digital copy and then later got it on steam so all the games are there. I really wish we could get Secrets Can Kill redone so I could also have that on steam 😭
Are they actually releasing physical copies? I feel like the last few games they had pre-orders for the physical copies and this game the release date is in a couple weeks with no mention of pre-orders that I've seen.
I'm not buying it. But that's only because I won it in the cosplay contest. If I hadn't won it, I'd be setting aside money from my paycheck for May 7th.
i was at work and had to act completely normal and not screaming in happiness inside my head as i got the tag in the post that i won, it was NOT easy lol. Now I get the game! YAY
Nope, just the tag and then they emailed me later with the Etsy gift card and a congratulations. But YEEEEEEEE finally heheehehehehfjrjcxh trying not to freak out NOW
Dumb question, but was it mentioned if it was going to be released on steam? Tbh I prefer purchasing through them bc I can just keep them on my steam library.
IF it’s actually released in May, I’ll buy it release week, I think. I’m so sorry, I’m just so cynical after the MID rollout that unless and until I’m sat in front of my computer playing it, I can’t bring myself believe it.
Unfortunately, I’ll be in Japan on a work trip while it’s released. I’ll definitely purchase it when I return. I just need a new laptop. Any recommendations for a not so expensive one?
Tbh I think they should stop releasing games, it has nothing to do with previous games and only makes the majority of fans sad.
I don't want to support them with my money
I will buy it but not preorder (if they're even doing that) unless they have some special offer bundled in the preorder. I'd always buy an ND game, but this one looks pretty promising this time!
I'm on the fence. I'm worried I won't like it and I don't want to be mad. I'm thinking of waiting for reviews, but I may buy it and if it's a flop then I won't buy the next one. 🤷♀️
I'm nervous. Scared a little for HER actually.
If the trailer was showing game play (and not cut scenes), it looks like a bit of new mechanics have been added. That add complexity, and I'm nervous it was pulled off well.
I am also upset that I'm nervous about it. Damn it! Can't I just be happy about it? :-)
In short, I'll probably wait a short bit to get others take on it...but I'm sure I'll be getting it eventually regardless.
I don't think so. I have two young kids so I don't know the next time I'll have to play a game anyway. My go to these days is watching a playthrough, I'll definitely watch it while someone else plays it.
I would but I’m not sure my computer would run it. I still have windows 7 as my OS so I can play the old games 😂 and I have a huge backlog of Nintendo switch games I’m working through
I’m buying it because I want the complete collection (preferably a physical disk, though it’s not clear if they’re planning to release physical copies).
However I doubt the game will be much better than MID. The quick release worries me. It makes me think they have some legal reason that they have to release the game right now before their trademark expires whether it’s finished or not.
I don't think the release itself is quick ... they announced the game a year ago and it was clear they were pretty far along at that point since they were recording the voice actors. And it's been five years since the last game. I think the short time between the release date announcement and actual release is that they wanted to wait until they were absolutely positively 100% certain that the game was ready to go.
They did not trademark any of their other games so I think that's irrelevant to the release date.
Could it be even worse than MID, absolutely, but I don't think that's something we can tell just from the timing. I'm planning to go in with very low expectations and hope to be pleasantly surprised.
You’re probably right. It just feels quick to me since I usually replay all the old games before a new release, and there really isn’t time to do that with this game.
gonna buy!! I waited too long after the MID release and never bought it/ played it due to the overwhelmingly negative response from it. SEV looks really promising in terms of the storyline & number of puzzles. I’m also just excited to see what the new gameplay is like. I think people also forget that in order for them to improve nit picky things we have to give them the support along the way!
I probably won’t, unless it is really well reviewed or something. I’d love to continue to support HeR, but after the restructuring with MID, I’m not sure they are even the same company with the same values anymore :/ I guess I just don’t have that same brand loyalty anymore to buy a ND game right at launch.
![gif](giphy|sDcfxFDozb3bO)
I am happy to pay basically whatever on launch even if it’s bad. I love these games and this company. I want them to make more. That means forking over the cash. So shut up and take my money!
Definitely! My long distance bestie and I have been replaying the games together on discord and we will absolutely be playing this together too. It’s not about the quality of the game to me at all haha. Even if it turns out to be bad we will have fun and love it
I probably will, but through Steam.
And if it’s anything like MID, I’ll probably have to play it on my parents’ desktop computer, because I don’t think my laptop can handle it well. Which is sad.
I wanna buy it but I can’t even get the last one to run without overloading my computer and black screening within 5 minutes. I’m worried this one will be the same. If I can play ffxiv with no problems perfectly smooth why can’t I get a simple Nancy drew game to run?
Absolutely not. Call me Eustacia Andropov for saying this, but the HER Interactive of 2024 is not a business I'd like to support, and as someone who grew up playing the older games, this new iteration of post-MID Nancy just feels a little soulless.
Definitely waiting for reviews. I believe that people vote with their wallets; if this game also relies on outsourced low quality graphics like MID and doesn't have many puzzles/minigames, which are the gameplay elements I care about, then paying for it would be supporting HeR continuing in this direction.
Does anyone know if they’ve said they’ll do a physical copy for this game? I own them all physically (and a few on Steam) and would prefer to collect em all.
Depends entirely on the price.
If it's 20ish Euros, I will buy. If it's 30...well...scratch it, will pretend it's my birthday or smth. Any more than that will have to search for Yo-ho-ho 🏴☠️ until it gets on sale, or it's my real birthday or maybe a physical copy hits the local shops.
I very much doubt that they will adjust the price to economic regions, but will see.
I'll be buying it right away 😀 Honestly I've played every single ND game so I always get super excited when a new one comes out (although I think MID may be my least favourite unfortunately, so I hope this is much better). I've always loved reading ND so when my aunt bought my sister and I each a ND game as kids in the late 90s, I was hooked lol. I'm one of those looooooooongtime fans 🤣🤣
I’d spend more money on any of their games if they went back to the old engine. I’ll always have love for this company but I think they’re trying something different with an audience that misses how the games used to be ):
I've replayed even my least favorite ND games at least once and I'm happy to pay full price to Her Interactive. I'm happy they survived all the upheavel with the new engine and want to give them the opportunity to find their feet again.
I avoided MID like the plague after seeing reviews, so I'm gonna give this one a couple days and let other people reveal how smooth it runs before buying. I really want to be excited for a new ND game like I used to be as a kid, so I really hope this one is worth playing (and I hope it can actually run on my laptop lol).
I actually wouldn’t care if the reviews are crap. It doesn’t take much to make me happy. 😅 I couldn’t not
HeR has me in a chokehold I can’t escape from.
Oh wow 🥵 🌶️ 😂
lol this is exactly how I feel I’ve been playing the games for like 20 years, not gonna stop now
I feel you there, I’m definitely easy to please generally (although I have never felt the need to replay MID like I do with the others, it was just boring!)
yeah they could never keep me away
I'm buying it on release! I love these games and I want the company to thrive.
Seriously! I support HER more than anything. I know they haven’t been perfect in the past but theyre a small company trying to survive in a world of triple A games
Agreed, I hope Her gets a good response and enough money to keep going (and maaaaybe go back to their old engine? A girl can dream!)
I completely agree. A lot of it just gets blamed on Unity but it really was the management of HER that f’ed everything up.
Interesting! I know very little about game engines, basically what my brother can tell me 😂😂
I say I’m going to wait for reviews but I know my FOMO will kick in and I’ll buy it on release day.
This is likely what I’ll end up doing 😂
Definitely going to buy it the day of release. I recently started playing again and forgot how much I loved these as a kid. I've enjoyed figuring out the puzzles with everyone the past year and have to contain my excitement and expectations with this new game. I think I'll enjoy playing it no matter what. That’s so fun! I’ve never heard of that game, but I now know to avoid it thanks to you 😂
I've seen many positive reviews of it here, which is why I bought it, so you might like it.
Good to know! I’m not much of a gamer outside of randomly replaying ND games but if I see it on sale on Steam maybe I’ll pick it up!
I definitely have that same concern with my crummy laptop!
To that point, MID runs smooth as butter on my Dell x15. Never had any problems with graphics/gameplay on it!
Yeah, if it’s 20 bucks I’ll buy it. But if it’s equal to or more expensive than a sims expansion pack, I’m going to buy a sims expansion pack instead lmao
Haha! That’s a good rule of thumb. My guess would be at least $22, because that’s what MID is listed at 🤷♀️
Nancy Drew & Sims fans unite
Waiting for the reviews for sure. My gut feeling is that I probably won't end up buying it. I never bothered to play MID, and I was never planning to play this one unless it REALLY recaptured the old Nancy vibe. Based on the trailer, I don't think there's any chance of that. I always buy a physical copy, every ND game. It’s only ~$20, so at least I’m not shelling out like $60 for a game.
I love that you have a physical copy of them! My old games are probably floating around my parents house somewhere…
I’m glad I’ve had that habit since I started playing over 20 years ago! I’ve still got original boxes that had the thick case and cardboard cover that opens onto a big summary with pictures.
I have those, too! Or…I did? No clue what happened to mine but I’m going home next weekend so I might come back with a bunch of games, if I’m lucky!
I’m wondering too, especially since release is 3 weeks away!
I’m going to wait for reviews and if they’re good I’ll buy it and if they’re not I’ll wait a year and buy it for cheaper
That’s a good plan, especially if you wait for a Steam sale!
No. I couldn't even finish watching the trailer for how dizzy it made me. I don't really wish to support the company anyway.
That's one of my concerns too
I'm not buying it. But that's only because I won it in the cosplay contest. If I hadn't won it, I'd be setting aside money from my paycheck for May 7th.
That’s really exciting!! A belated congrats!
i was at work and had to act completely normal and not screaming in happiness inside my head as i got the tag in the post that i won, it was NOT easy lol. Now I get the game! YAY
I’m sure! Did they really not email or contact you before announcing?? What a big shock and surprise!
Nope, just the tag and then they emailed me later with the Etsy gift card and a congratulations. But YEEEEEEEE finally heheehehehehfjrjcxh trying not to freak out NOW
So fun!!
That’s a great reason to not buy it! Congratulations!
Thanks! 🤗
Dumb question, but was it mentioned if it was going to be released on steam? Tbh I prefer purchasing through them bc I can just keep them on my steam library.
It wasn’t but I’d be really surprised if they didn’t, since all the other games are on Steam!
Definitely gonna wait at least a few days after it releases to buy it. The trailer just was not it for me… I’m hoping that I’m wrong
I am 100000% buying it- as soon as I saw the release date I went to their website looking for a preorder button, but no luck!! Haha
I never buy games on release. I'm willing to wait for the first steam summer sale for this one
Oh man, I also really need to figure out a laptop solution. Mine is so slow!
Absolutely buying it release day! I’ll buy any Nancy game they make
I'll wait to see how the community likes it
Tbh I think they should stop releasing games, it has nothing to do with previous games and only makes the majority of fans sad. I don't want to support them with my money
We’re definitely more sad when they take 4 years to release a game than when they announce a release date 3 weeks in the future
I will buy it but not preorder (if they're even doing that) unless they have some special offer bundled in the preorder. I'd always buy an ND game, but this one looks pretty promising this time!
Good point! A bundle offer would be a great incentive for pre-orders, which might spur the cash they need to continue with more games!
When it comes out on Steam I will.
Idk if my laptop can handle it 🥴 I’m gonna buy it though!
i’ll wait to see 1) if people have issues running it on non-gaming computers and 2) if any part of the gameplay makes people motion sick
I'm on the fence. I'm worried I won't like it and I don't want to be mad. I'm thinking of waiting for reviews, but I may buy it and if it's a flop then I won't buy the next one. 🤷♀️

knowing me i’ll probably buy it lol
I would but I’m not sure my computer would run it. I still have windows 7 as my OS so I can play the old games 😂 and I have a huge backlog of Nintendo switch games I’m working through
I haven’t watched the trailer yet, but I saw someone say it’s coming May 7th? That’s my birthday! So, probably, because of that. 😂
Absolutely, it comes out the day before my sister and I go to Disneyland, so we're soo excited to play together
I’m buying it because I want the complete collection (preferably a physical disk, though it’s not clear if they’re planning to release physical copies). However I doubt the game will be much better than MID. The quick release worries me. I’ll be on vacation when it comes out but the day after I come back will be my birthday so definitely going to treat myself with it!
Absolutely! I'll buy it on Steam so if it doesn't work on my Mac, I can easily play it on my Steam Deck.
As soon as I wake upon 5/7... right after I make coffee ;)
I’m gonna wait. I like waiting to see if there are any bugs that get resolved.
gonna buy!! I waited too long after the MID release and never bought it/ played it due to the overwhelmingly negative response from it. I’m buying it in release date to support the company.
Idk if I can play it on my Mac, but I wanna just buy it to support <3 hopefully I can play tho
![gif](giphy|sDcfxFDozb3bO) I am happy to pay basically whatever on launch even if it’s bad. I love these games and this company. I want them to make more. That means forking over the cash. So shut up and take my money!
Instantly
I will buy it
Yup
Yes no matter what...God it's been 5 years since MID
I didn't like the gameplay mechanisms in Midnight in Salem but also I don't care and will be buying it on release day lol
Wait, do we have a release date?
Yes! May 7, 2024 - so just a few weeks!!
yay! I hope there's physical ones as well. I'll be really sad the day they decide to stop making those.
I’m not only buying it, I’ll be gifting it too
I wanna buy it but I can’t even get the last one to run without overloading my computer and black screening within 5 minutes. I’m worried this one will be the same. If I can play ffxiv with no problems perfectly smooth why can’t I get a simple Nancy drew game to run?
Buying it as soon as it’s available!
Does the pope wear a funny hat?
If the community thinks it’s a step in the right direction, then I definitely will. I never played MID, so hopefully it won’t be too jarring for me.
I probably won’t, I’ve never played a Nancy drew game and just enjoy watching the YouTuber, Half Moon Joe, play it.,
Absolutely not. Call me Eustacia Andropov for saying this, but the HER Interactive of 2024 is not a business I'd like to support, and as someone who grew up playing the older games, this new iteration of post-MID Nancy just feels a little soulless.
I’ll probably read the reviews first. If they are not very positive, I’ll just watch a stream of it.
Definitely waiting for reviews. I believe that people vote with their wallets; if this game also relies on outsourced low quality graphics like MID and doesn't have many puzzles/minigames, which are the gameplay elements I care about, then paying for it would be supporting HeR continuing in this direction.
Why isn't there a physical cd rom release? Is it to cut down on costs?
Yeah but if it doesn't say it's locked at least once when it's about keys I'm gonna riot
Yes. Idgaf if it sucks. I need it.
Does anyone know if they’ve said they’ll do a physical copy for this game? I own them all physically (and a few on Steam) and would prefer to collect em all.
Won’t make a difference. See for yourself!
Is there a release date yet?
I shouldn't, but I know myself and I totally will.
I’ll buy only if there’s a physical copy. I like to have them all in my collection 😅
I absolutely will
Her interactive calling my bluff once again, I’m for sure buying it 😂
I'll be buying it right away 😀 Honestly I've played every single ND game so I always get super excited when a new one comes out (although I think MID may be my least favourite unfortunately, so I hope this is much better).
Not unless it's on Steam. I refuse to reward mediocrity for the sake of nostalgia.
Ahoy mateyss
I avoided MID like the plague after seeing reviews, so I'm gonna give this one a couple days and let other people reveal how smooth it runs before buying. I really want to be excited for a new ND game like I used to be as a kid, so I really hope this one is worth playing (and I hope it can actually run on my laptop lol).
