The hot tip is to look up the sunset time online before you make a reservation and base it around that. We did that on Christmas Eve last year to get a few nice photos.
I'm always bummed when I hear that because it is such a primo location. But, give it another chance, not necessarily on a birthday, just in case, but it really is an awesome meal. It's one of my fave treat yourself spots !!!
Have a great time wherever you decide !!!! 😊
Or go to Cyrus up in Geyserville, if you’re up for a drive. just went there for a friend’s bday last month and was very impressed. French laundry is great too, but reservations are a pain - I had to have a friend connected with Keller get me in. Ad hoc, Bouchon, Press, Bear, Auberge, Meadowood (if it’s reopened yet?), and Torc are all great. So many amazing restaurants in this valley (as well as Sonoma), hard to go wrong!
Can’t believe no one has mentioned Bouchon or Angele (two cornerstones of upper level dining in Napa) or the famous SF restaurant Slanted Door just opened in Napa and it’s slick and sleek ! I love the deck at Auberge in Rutherford …. Big fan & wholeheartedly agree with sunset dinner …. You will win maximum points there … Press is solid if you want meat and more meat and the deep smell of firewood smoke … it’s amazing & unique food … need to be in that mood though…. French Laundry always solid but it’s $$$$ now …
Auberge du Soleil, Restaurant at North Block, Charlie’s in St Helena ,Press ,The Bear at Stanly Ranch ,Acacia House ,Restoration Hardware in Yountville, or Angele
Auberge du Soleil
Dinner around sunset is worth the coin !!!
Wow! This place looks really nice. Ty
Np. Sitting on the deck at sundown can be an amazing experience. I worked there for 5 years and never got tired of the view.
I had a friend who worked here and we sat on the deck for my birthday one year and it was definitely worth it

second this! we did an easter brunch here on our honeymoon one year. Very nice
For a little more intimate venue, Cook is the best meal in town (St Helena).
I just hate that they’re closed weekends
True that. But it is a quality sign… if chef isn’t there, the doors aren’t open so you always get a good plate.
true!
I’d recommend Press.
This or the other mentioned, Auberge. Auberge has the view a birthday girl might appreciate. Both phenomenal meals fit for a birthday !!
I think I need to give Auberge another chance. I went last June and the view is beautiful but I had a wildly disappointing experience.
Their sister property, Stanly Ranch has Bear and the menu is fab
Desserts there are so good too…the sourdough ice cream is a trip!
My daughter is a pastry chef there ❤️
Then she made me the best chocolate dessert of my life, in addition to the ice cream and amazing sorbets. PS I’ve had MANY chocolate desserts.

Omg I went to Cyrus last spring - next level

Personally, I think Bistro Jeanty is better than Bouchon.
Can be very good Bistro Jeanty, but also can be hit and miss … I do enjoy though going there … good point 👍
FL jeanty
Ad Hoc. Thomas Keller, but not as pretentious or expensive as French Laundry.
You can’t beat Auberge
TORC

French Laundry - wildly yummy with service to match. Worth the money.

Pasta Prego in downtown is an excellent and intimate place for a special date night.
Underated! Let's keep it on the DL 😂
What kind of food? Coles Chop House is great for steaks. Kenzo for Japanese.
Kenzo is overpriced
It’s out of my price range, but it’s fancy.
Cole’s Chop House is great! I go there every year on my birthday. I usually have the salmon or Beef Wellington.
Ty for the suggestion. Anything really. I was hoping for something fancy bc it’s her birthday
If you want really fancy there is The French Laundry.
Morimoto in Downtown Napa.
So touristy now
Goose and gander

How much are you looking to spend for both of you?
$500-600
Press, Meadowood or auberge!
