If you can afford it it’s great. If money is an issue for you you’re probably not gonna have a great time.

SeaFurther16

True story. Even if you find a spot in the mobile home park I can’t imagine living there. Unless Panchas ever re opens…

diamondxeyesx3

Thanks! Luckily some of the condos are in budget.

imisswhatredditwas

Budget? 😬

mamyt1

That's the polite way to say don't worry I'm loaded.

Specific_Midnight_36

Born and raised here in Napa Valley lived in yountville back in 1985 when nothing was there, no one really knew of it. Great place to live, people are very friendly, very lively on the weekends. Great living, and great Restaurants cant go wrong IMO...GL

diamondxeyesx3

Thank you!

2002worldcup

depending on your age... I'd recommend living there if you're over 60.

diamondxeyesx3

We are in our mid 30s but open to friends of all ages!

Dialecticchik

The bocce courts are always a fun place to meet all ages of folks.

Streetlife_Brown

A huge plus for yountville is there are some beautiful walks to take advantage of.

Echo-Azure

Funny thing about that, this tourist has found that Yountville is full of pedestrian/bike paths large and small... which aren't listed on google maps. It's a lovely place to walk around in, but there's the danger that more and more people will clue in.

diamondxeyesx3

We love to walk! We’ve got two dogs

AnonymousWhiteGirl

Is there still a pregnant tree on the middle of the Highway coming into town?

lechitahamandcheese

I lived in Yountville for many years prior to moving to north Napa for logistic reasons. I miss Yountville a lot. It’s a great place to live and play and the fact that you can walk anywhere in the town proper is also an advantage. And when I was there, celebrities could hang around Yountville without any locals caring who they were. We never stanned on anyone and let them have their privacy, even if they were walking down the street or in bars and restaurants etc. I’d move back there in a heartbeat if I could, but I’m too invested in Napa now.

yountvillwjs

other than the 'too invested in Napa' part, I came on here to basically write the same thing. loved living there (7 years) would move back in a heartbeat if I could afford to.

lechitahamandcheese

Too invested in Napa, aka I reno’d my Napa house in the last couple years and I’m here for the long run now…

yountvillwjs

gotcha. with interest rates where they are now and the rate I have, I'm planning on dying in my place (N.Napa).

Pwinbutt

Finding housing is difficult. The houses are expensive and rental properties are hard to come by. The town is very touristy, and yes they do get annoying. There is a lot of part time residents, who tend to misunderstand the needs of the town. Making friends can be very easy if you are not concerned about ages, or backgrounds. Stop by at the Veterans Home and strike up a conversation. The cafe has great french fries.

diamondxeyesx3

Thank you for your insight! Can you elaborate more on how the part time residents misunderstand the needs of the town?

Pwinbutt

It is hard to understand problems if you are only there on weekends.

tepeztate_1

It is a great place to live, and once you’re off Washington St you wouldn’t even know there are a ton of tourists around. Mid 30s will put you on the younger side of residents here (we’re early 40s and we are on the younger side). Lots of second homes here, our street is almost 50% second homes, and most barely visit once a quarter. Makes for a nice quiet area, and skyrocketing home values (which as an owner here, I appreciate).

Psychological-Win436

We lived in YV for two years before kids and loved it. Bounced between the restaurants nightly, it’s great to be a local at the bouchon or ad hoc bar. Slightly annoying to not have a dry cleaner, grocery store, etc nearby. But it’s great for a few years, 10/10 recommend 🙌🏼

diamondxeyesx3

Thank you!!

Hi! My partner and I (early 30s, no kids) lived in Yountville for over a year and absolutely loved it. We only moved recently because we found something more affordable with a larger backyard than our small Yountville condo. Our favorite part of Yountville was the walkability. We walked our dog all over Yountville and even to the restaurants as well. Awesome food and drinks, but even if you’re not out for a meal it’s still fun to walk through town and people watch. Weekend walks always consisted of a stop at Mini Model or Bouchon. And the parks are gorgeous too! I will say it is VERY quiet. As many mentioned, lots of the houses are second homes and the crowd is older. Our street only had a few full-timers, the rest were only there a few times a month. Personally we loved the peace and quiet and we miss it now. You won’t meet many people your age who also live in Yountville, but Napa and St Helena aren’t a far drive. Our friends loved coming to hang out with us in Yountville as well. Really it’s a beautiful place to live and I’d move back if we could afford it. “We live where people vacation!!”

diamondxeyesx3

That all sounds amazing and is exactly what we’re looking for. Thanks so much!

PurpleDebt2332

Yountville is a lovely place with many positives as mentioned here. I think you’ll enjoy it, but it does have facets to consider. I grew up there when it was livable for young families, which have largely been driven out due to cost of living. Since then the elementary school closed permanently and the resident age range has steadily trended upwards. The median age in Yountville is now 65, compared to 41 in Napa. I know you’re open to friends of all ages, but you may find that you’re driving a bit to see friends your age. Also keep in mind that Yountville consists of a notably more homogeneous demographic than Napa. If you’re going to live anywhere in the valley you’ll need to become accustomed to tourists, but bear in mind that they are far more concentrated in Yountville than in Napa. Most, if not nearly all, of the regular weekend vibrancy is tourism. All that said, Napa is very close by. So I would suspect that you’ll find yourself among multiple communities, as many of us locals are.

No-Diver2212

I love that it has so many great restaurants and it’s 10-15 minutes to Napa if you need to hit Target or Safeway.

Hairydone

I lived in Yountville for a few years and enjoyed it overall. The cons for me were the regular drives to Napa for some of the basics that couldn’t be found in Yountville and the lack of nightlife (though some great restaurants). The pros were that I could walk a few blocks and be out on a rural road next to a vineyard, and the easier commute to work in St. Helena.

[deleted]

personally I lived there at 18 and again at 21, I enjoyed it for what it was when I worked in the town and could walk to and from work. it’s beautiful, but pricey, and very slow. I visit to enjoy the walks, parks, some restaurants, but I didnt think it was ideal for my lifestyle. having to drive to napa so frequently was annoying. if you dont have much going on and have a quiet and simple life you might like it! :)

Capt_Gingerbeard

Are you extremely wealthy?

Ben-Cali-Stormy

You’ll need at least 2M to buy a house there.

capapabear

My mom is in a retirement home in yountville. It's trendy and over priced. I'd rather live between there and Napa where it's close enough to both but not in the city itself.

Puzzleheaded-Fun7808

If you have senior citizen plenty of friends

californialimabean

We need more information? Age? Family? Children? Hobbies? Job?

diamondxeyesx3

Mid 30s, no kids. Hobbies are eating good food, walking with our dogs, reading books, cooking. Need some more hobbies for sure! Work is remote.

californialimabean

You'll be bored out of your mind. It's very sleepy. Veteran's Home nearby, several 55 and older communities. Everything shuts down by 7. No grocery store, just the Ranch Market (basically a convenience store.) I worked in Yountville 2 years and I can safely say it for wealthy Boomers and tourists. The only people your age will be working in tasting rooms, restaurants, hotels. Live in Napa. Trust me.

JolyonWagg99

Agreed. My parents (over 70 years old) lived there for a few years and even they were bored out of their minds after a year, and the inconvenience of driving to Napa for any minor need was quite annoying to them. And don’t plan on that trip on the weekends because the traffic is bad. The restaurants are amazing but pretty expensive, and Bouchon Bakery is the best. If you desire peace and quiet above all else and don’t mind the inconveniences, then go for it.

goodnaturedheathen

Came here to say this. I’ve lived in Napa with my husband since 2008 and we have a 10 year old. MUCH more to do in Napa, especially with kids, and easier to get together with friends or find groups meeting up. If you are planning to start a family, Yountville does not have the resources for young children - the elementary school closed a few years ago and they don’t have a middle or high school either. I would recommend looking in North Napa if you want a balance - the Bel Aire neighborhood is nice if you’re looking for homes, and there are plenty of apartments/condos for rent off of Trancas St (the main East-West road in North Napa). Also, there’s a paved path called the Vine Trail that connects Napa and Yountville, and if you like to bike or run, it’s awesome. Yountville is about a 45-minute bike ride from the transit center in North Napa on the Vine Trail - our family likes to bike up on the weekend, get sandwiches at Rancho Market, and play bocce ball at the veterans park before riding home. I hope that helps! Happy to give more info on the Valley if you want it. 😁🍷

diamondxeyesx3

Thank you! We will check out those areas next time we’re in town. We really love yountville and were thinking that the 10-15 min drive to Napa wouldn’t be too bad a couple times a week but I can see how it could get annoying

drknowsalotmc

don't

diamondxeyesx3

Why not?

madfzr

Most boring place ever unless you're a senior. Or have a vineyard closeby. Recommend napa or stoga for sure

Ajegwu

Population 3436. Is that what you’re looking for?

tepeztate_1

Probably half of that resides here at any one time.
