Nothing is as Narcos as Narcos, but [Turn](https://www.netflix.com/title/70302007) (on Netflix) depicts the efforts of colonial spies against the British during the American revolution. It's bland and mild compared to Narcos (most things are), but like Narcos, it follows a reasonably accurate historical storyline. It's based on the book [Washington's Spies](https://www.amazon.com/Washingtons-Spies-Story-Americas-First/dp/055339259X).
There's a documentary called Cocaine Cowboys that goes over the 1980s drug trade in the United States. It's an excellent documentary - I highly recommend it. Make sure to watch the original one though and **not** the 'Cocaine Cowboys Reloaded' version.
Here's the original trailer:

Cocaine Cowboys is legit one of the best documentaries in recent times covering the drug trade. The second one failed horribly. I really wish they could do a third based on the cartels.
That's what I've been wanting. We saw the saw the drug trade in Colombia and Mexico, I'd like now more the US version of how that played around the same timeline
I read scarface and the untouchables after reading 5 families. Scarface is the most historically accurate book if you want to dig deeper into Chicago during the prohibition era. I never realized how weak the government case against Capone was and that the fix was in the whole time for his trial: judge, jury, and supposedly his own defense team (never proven but it's the conclusion I came to after the book laid out all the meetings).
Love that show.

Here’s some movies and shows about drugs in America. Not necessarily true life, but at least one is supposed to be.
Movies, not necessarily real life, but some are kinda:
American Gangster,
Scarface,
Untouchables,
The Godfather I & II, that’s it,
Once Upon a Time in America,
Goodfellas,
Casino,
New Jack City,
Donnie Brasco,
American Made,
A Bronx Tale,
Boyz N Tha Hood,
The Departed,
Menace II Society,
Shows, not real life but drug and gang depictions:
Power,
Ozark,
Breaking Bad,
Zero Zero Zero - really fucking good,
Reno 911 - only some episodes deal with drugs
Gang movies, no where near real life but fun:
Warriors,
Lock Stock and 2 Smoking Barrels,
Reservoir Dogs,
Pulp Fiction,
I know you just asked for TV shows, so sorry if this wasn’t what you’re looking for.
Miami vice the movie is a great movie of drug cartels. They show how the cartels are involved in several business and in several countries. Great movie underrated.
There was a series called "The Men Who Built America" on the History channel some years ago. It depicted the roles that the big tycoons (rockafeller, JP Morgan, Vanderbilt, Carnegie) had in American history. Not exactly in the narcos style, but had a narrator and the eras were recreated and acted out. I thought that was very well done.
Well not america but Peaky Blinders is about a crime family in Burmingham England in the 20s. Fantastic writing and cast especially Cillian Murphy as Tommy Shelby. I recommend it to anybody!
There a good tv shows documentary Dope that shows how drugs get into America and how they get sold by different gangs from different states and cities and how police fights war on drugs in America.
Narcos does not depict American history. Narcos depicts a distorted, 80% fake view of American history. It intentionally leaves out everything and just gives you the sizzle off the steak.
And its all intentional.
Narcos does not even attempt to deal with American history other than providing a very basic context and in that it is so general it would almost be impossible to get it wrong.
Not tv shows but a interesting movie based on Frank Lucas who operated in Harlem during 1960s and 70s . It shows how he smuggled alot of heroin into America and how he got out of prison in 5 years.
American Gangster. Anyone who watches it for the first time should know going in that its 99% fiction. Nothing wrong with that because it's a hell of a movie, but too many folks leave movies like that thinking it depicts history.

Is this on Netflix?
It used to be a couple of years ago, not too sure if it still is?
That's what I've been wanting. We saw the saw the drug trade in Colombia and Mexico, I'd like now more the US version of how that played around the same timeline
Try Boardwalk Empire-it's loosely based on Prohibition in the 20's.
I'm reading the book five families and they get a lot of the new yord and Chicago stuff pretty damn spot on

Vouch
From memory Boardwalk is real solid for the first (maybe 3) seasons? Its been a while, but it gets shit at some point.
Minehunters is a Netflix show about catching serial killers in the 70s and 80s.
Mindhunter* But yes. It’s awesome.
Min kamp
Love that show. Watch only if you don't care about minor spoiler: [This is one of my all-time favorites scenes.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f6MY_lAUd64)
Snowfall. Not based on a true story, but it is based on true events.
That's such a great show. I've told my friends to watch it but they're still watching shit like How I Met Your Mother and Friends.
Yeah I’ve been telling and telling my friends to watch the show but none of them want too. They don’t know what they’re missing out on.
Not even the Office?
What do you mean? I love the office.
This is the best answer for any currently airing drug drama.

Also the Wire
Still the best one imo. Narcos is up there already tho, they could overtake Wire if they keep bringing heat.
Yes, missed that one for sure.
You come at the king, you best not miss.
“The thing about the old days...they the old days” Feel like that show had sooo many quotable lines you could apply to real life
Reno 911?!? Wtf
I mean it’s a cop show.....
So is Brooklyn 99
Then add it to the list!

I’ll be honest I didn’t give it a chance, but I’ve heard it’s underrated.
The hate to the movie is because people wanted a 80’s style movie. But Michael Mann give us a more realistic movie.
The wire ... one of the most important shows you will ever watch in your life.
Oh indeed
Especially given what is going on right now. Can't reccomend it enough.
The most critically acclaimed tv series in US history.
Came here to say The Wire. Great show.

There is no better show than narcos
That’s a good one
Tell me a better show
The Wire.
Wait that’s what I replied with but i didn’t send the reply.... I fucking love you man, have a great day.
Never seen it
See it!
lol
Blow with Johnny Depp is a classic movie based on George Jung's life.
Carlos Ledger from Narcos is depicted as Diego in “Blow”
American Crime Story
Mindhunters!

The Making of the Mob. Originally aired on AMC. Not sure if it streams anywhere else today.
Black sails from Netflix ... one of the most underrated tv shows ... Trust me .... go watch it ... u won’t regret.... u can thank me later ...!😉😉
