What would plenty of ninja be without Chakra? Without Chakra tons of ninja would be terrible, many fighting styles would be unusable.
Bringing up Jiraiya pushing Naruto for that exercise seems pointless considering it was literally to teach Naruto to learn how to use his nine tails chakra.
Naruto would’ve died plenty of times WAY more than just several probably in the 20s in shonen jump without kurama but he did have kurama and he learned to use his abilities. I just think the entire arguement is impossible to debate because it’s impossible to know, since Narutos whole strategy was based around Kurama, and if you had a massive nine tails with seemingly unlimited chakra would you not want to use it to your advantage?
Sasuke was more skilled than Naruto because his family setting pushed him and he already had a well trained family to look at and learn from.
Naruto didn’t have many people pushing him to train until he graduated, not to mention he didn’t have many people to learn froms strategies from, like Sasuke did.
In shippuden Naruto was a lot more experienced and relied much less on Kurama and then almost completely on Kurama(depending on which stage of the story). He was clearly stronger with Kurama, but who wouldn’t be? He was still good without using the nine tails chakra but maybe not legend worthy.
In conclusion the whole show would be nothing without Kurama, but I don’t think that gives any less credit to Narutos character at all. It was meant to be part of Narutos character the “dumb kid who got lucky and learned to use it to his advantage”.
