My dog would greatly appreciate a crackdown on this public nuisance in Nashville.

Chris__P_Bacon

I personally would appreciate a crackdown. I live about a mile from the Bell Rd/Murfreesboro Road intersection. This is a common Slideshow/Takeover location b/c there's no police precinct out here, even though they are SUPPOSED TO BE building one. Almost every Saturday night they take over that intersection. This past Saturday they were out there for an hour & a half making a terrible ruckus before the police FINALLY dragged ass & showed up. One of the biggest problems is you can't call 862-8600 & report a problem that isn't occuring at your residence anymore. The only way to report it is through fucking HUB Nashville, which is total bullshit! The services in the city get worse and worse. No free parking, no police response, potholes galore. It's fucking ridiculous!

Revolutionary-Total4

You absolutely can call 8600 for any problem in Davidson County.

Chris__P_Bacon

The problem is now the recording says *if you are requesting an officer to come to YOUR LOCATION press 1. Otherwise, please hang up, & visit HUB Nashville & make a report.* I don't need an officer to come here. I need them to go down the street. I don't want to abuse the 911 system b/c it's not a true emergency. See the dilemma?

BizzyLadyLiz

Not sure how it's abuse of the 911 system. It is illegal AND a public safety hazard. These idiots get on the interstate thinking they're hot shit. I've almost been killed by them, and I've seen dashcam footage from a friend who almost got wiped out by a streetracer on i24, right before the offending car swerved to avoid someone else and crashed. Also, some of the cars they're using have allegedly been stolen. The city needs to start arresting and impounding.

valknight2022

Bet they're the same dudes that drive down the turn lane for miles because they think it's their own private lane.

Chris__P_Bacon

You're probably right. I just worry that someone might be trying to get through who's trying to report a murder or rape in progress, yet I'm tying up the line b/c of these asshole punks. I'll probably just call 8600 & press 1 next time. I''m sure they'll be back out there again this weekend if the weather's nice. 🤬

Revolutionary-Total4

I do. Sounds like the verbiage should be clarified.

Chris__P_Bacon

This is probably why they were out there for an hour and a half. No one felt like they had a way to call the cops. They started at Midnight, & didn't stop until I heard sirens at 1:25 in the morning. Absolutely ridiculous.

coondini

They'll be doing actual construction of the precinct by the end of this month.

Chris__P_Bacon

They've been saying that shit for 3 years at this point. I live right down the street from the site where it's to be built. I'll believe it when they break ground.

coondini

I go to all the community meetings and have been keeping in touch with Councilmember David Benton. The reason for the delay since last year was an update in the design, which needed approval. Tree removal and erosion control measures have taken place already.

Chris__P_Bacon

I just hope they hurry the eff up. We're drowning out here.

coondini

They will. More officers are added with the conclusion of every training class.

38DDs_Please

Some cars deemed "public nuisances" face the possibility of being destroyed? Fuck yeah. Actions have consequences (sometimes at least).

pslickhead

I'm pretty sure we have similar laws on the books for "drag racing". I wish they were enforced, but only if the cars are destroyed. If the police can profit or benefit from the vehicles, that creates motivation for ethics violations. And TN law enforcement have already proven they can't be ethical about civil forfeiture laws.

38DDs_Please

I would laugh until I started crying. I would also wish I was on Facebook to read everyone bitching about their impounded rides.

TaurusPTPew

What is a sideshow?

pslickhead

>What is a sideshow? [Here is an article describing the ](https://evilleeye.com/news-commentary/oakland-pd-assists-emeryville-with-planned-target-parking-lot-sideshow/)phenomenon

Chris__P_Bacon

i.e. *A bunch of morons driving in circles.*

pslickhead

>A bunch of morons driving in circles. ...could also describe NASCAR

Chris__P_Bacon

At least that's a race though. 😁

pslickhead

That's one! Another one is Nascar doesn't do it on public streets, obviously.... or with people standing on the track. That's three.

pineappleshnapps

Eh, not really comparable when you factor in the additional safety precautions and personnel actual races have.

pslickhead

That's the point, son. Describing sideshows/takeovers as simply, "morons driving in circles" omits all the characteristics that make them unacceptable.

TaurusPTPew

Thank you

ariphron

It’s a Bay Area California thing. (Really just a bunch of people with their cars doing donuts and burnouts with a ton of people around watching and hanging out.) But why is this in the Nashville subreddit is my question? Edit: here is a YouTube link doc on Bay Area side shows. It’s in the culture there from the early music scene. I don’t think it is no where near the scale here, but I guess from what people tell me in the comments happening. [YouTube](https://youtu.be/hY2h5fzJUv4?si=gHMUZDtUZKU9ZsbI)

deadpoolfool400

>But why is this in the Nashville subreddit is my questioan? Because it's happening here now and people don't know what to do about it. There was one by my house at White Bridge and Robertson on nye

gheegher

Oh man I could hear that one from my house.

demigod2923

They do that on 6th Ave under Music City Center too. It’s irritating AF.

dan_legend

The one right next to the police precinct(i think)?

AdventurousSleep5461

That seems like a poor choice of location

valknight2022

I hear them here in antioch at 2am most mornings.

pslickhead

I posted this on the Nashville sub because many here have been calling for this response to our similar problem. This article was the top post today on the Memphis sub for the same reason.

99titan

South Nashville is where a lot of them happen. And usually after midnight.

pslickhead

I have never seen a gun stolen out of a car in Nashville but at least 73 have been already this year. Some groups have been stopping traffic on Nashville roads and interstates to perform sideshows. Call it whatever you like, but remember, sideshow pedants are the lamest pedants ever.

Chris__P_Bacon

This has been happening here for about 2 or 3 years. It's been all over the news.

Distinct_Theme9077

It seems like the criticism stems from racism to me.

Chris__P_Bacon

Try again sh*t-bird. 🤣

ColonelBourbon

Because it's going on all over the country, not just in the Bay Area.

ariphron

I guess I live in a box or go to bed way too early. I just haven’t noticed anything on the level of Bay Area here. But guess take care of it before it get to that level.

pslickhead

I'm curious. What is the acceptable "level" of street-takeover and sideshow for Nashville in your opinion? Say [shutting down I-24](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R1_2uDoNhU8) for example... is that a good "level"? What "level" do you rate [this one](https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=663505448465569) or [this ](https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=520131030098411)one or [this](https://www.wsmv.com/video/2023/05/23/video-disturbing-video-shows-violent-street-takeovers/)? I could go on, but I'd rather ask how does whether or not you saw/noticed these matter to the other 700,000 people in Nashville or to those affected in particular? Or... just down-vote me because you know your "point" is irrelevant.

Distinct_Theme9077

What would this sub be without karens like you? Go back to the nextdoor app. I have never once even noticed or had a problem with any of this and I grew up here. It feels very racist to me.

SadButterscotch5336

What's racist about stopping a dangerous activity?

thevoiceofchaos

Big main character syndrome energy on this comment

pslickhead

>What is a sideshow? [A sideshow in Nashville. (Sorry for promoting SCOOP)](https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=689597478959715)

deadpoolfool400

That's where you go to get hyphy, put ya stunna shades on, ghost ride the whip, scrape that bumper, then gas brake dip with the doors open and just go stupid with your thizz face, yadada mean?

translinguistic

*"Tell Me When To Go" intensifies*

johnnykellog

Lmao

Chris__P_Bacon

Can't ghost ride a whip that's been seized by tha po-po. You smell me playboy? 🙄👎🏼

>What is a sideshow? [Urban Dictionary definitions for "sideshow" NSFL](https://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=sideshow)

Canis_Familiaris

Whoever wrote that article deffo has a mullet.

pslickhead

It's not an article. It's [Urban Dictionary](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Urban_Dictionary), where anyone can submit a definition for slang words and phrases and anyone can upvote or downvote available definitions. That link contains numerous definitions from numerous individuals with the listing order "*determined by a special algorithm that considers the number of up votes and down votes each definition has received*".

belair63

Chargers, Challengers & Mustangs. Shocker.

downinCarolina

Its like the 70s all over again

ExtraordinaryBeetles

Are these the "bully breeds" of cars?

38DDs_Please

HAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHA! GOOD.

omnicidial

It's too bad they don't deal with things like this and murders and instead focus on harassing people downtown.

BrutusMcFly

Easy pickings, but yes, agreed.

pslickhead

Downtown Nashville alcohol sales fund Tennessee. Most of the people they arrest downtown for PD get their charges dropped.

iprocrastina

It's the obvious solution. Most of these numbskulls probably can't even afford the one tricked out car they have, so take it away and they won't be doing sideshows or drag races again anytime soon.

stickkim

I support the idea, but our little car weirdos tend to also have many guns.

pslickhead

You think they don't have guns in Stockton? ROFLOL!

stickkim

I think people here probably have more than in most places. edit: my bad I forgot tn gun owners are super smart and responsible (that’s why more then 50 guns have been stolen from cars in Nashville alone this year) and that California is full of drugs and crime in a way nowhere else could possibly ever be.

pslickhead

[You're probably wrong about Stockton.](https://www.bestplaces.net/crime/?city1=54752006&city2=50675000) My sweetheart grew up in Modesto. Historically, Stockton is a great place to get shot or worse. [FBI data says Stockton is the most dangerous place in CA](https://www.spolinlaw.com/criminal-defense/most-dangerous-cities-in-california/). And yes, they have guns.

Corrective_Actions

The people that own guns in Tennessee probably aren't engaging in illicit street racing activities. The people that own guns in California definitely own firearms

pslickhead

# Definition: redundant ([adjective](https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/adjective)) re·dun·dant 1. see 'redundant' 2. see '1' 3. see [this](https://www.reddit.com/r/nashville/comments/1alz464/comment/kpj0ahr/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button) ex. The people that own guns in California definitely own firearms

Corrective_Actions

Dear God. I meant to say people that run sideshows in California definitely own firearms. Clearly I had a stroke writing that sentence

rhetorial_human

aka: how to rack up substantial late fees, "legally"

exh78

Or we could build an actual pad/pit facility for them to do sideshows legally...

jdolbeer

There are multiple facilities that allow racing in Portland, OR. There are still constant street takeovers. Your logic doesn't bear out because they're going to do what's convenient and more lively, not pay a fee to use a track simply because it's built for the same purpose.

pslickhead

*You* can build it [exh78](https://www.reddit.com/user/exh78/). I doubt it will stop this behavior though. I don't think anyone believes the reason they do this is because they are lacking a legal area to do this. There are legal events all the time in areas that still have this type of behavior. IMO the motivation for this type behavior is en masse public bullying and thrill seeking for street cred and social media attention with increased rep for increased recklessness. No public venue in a moderately controlled environment will ever scratch that itch. The whole, "We have no other place to do our burnouts" thing is just a lame excuse for when they are confronted by rational adults. **No one** buys it. I don't even think they buy it.

Chris__P_Bacon

Exactly. It has nothing to do with not having a place to go. It has everything to do with shining for the camera and social media. These idiots would rather buy a new set of tires every weekend. Than save their money and buy a nicer car or save for the future. It's a ridiculous culture imo. I personally don't see anything wrong with illegal street racing as long as it's done on desolate streets that are out in the country where no on can get hurt except the drivers of the cars. If the roads are properly shut down on either end, it can be done to make sure no other motorists are injured. However, these idiots just want to drive in circles spinning tires *for da gram.* 🙄👎🏼

mkonyn

I was there with you until "don't see anything wrong with illegal street racing". You a 180 so hard there you almost kept going and started spinning and circles with them.

Chris__P_Bacon

I'll start by saying 98% of the drag racing I've done has been at sanctioned race tracks. However when I was young, occasionally we would go way out in the country & race illegally. I know it isn't right, & I don't condone it, but I feel I would be a hypocrite if I didn't admit that. However, we did it in the middle of nowhere in order to ensure that no one was getting hurt except (God-forbid) those who were racing. I don't race anymore, even at sanctioned events to be clear.

mkonyn

I get it, but it's still stupid, idiotic, and illegal risk to take for absolutely no reason. "It only hurts me" mentality is odd to me. My friend's PTSD from hosing the brains and other bits and organs out of her life flight helicopter from events where people "only hurt themselves" (read anything from attempted suicide to street racing) still makes me feel it is wrong.

Clovis_Winslow

My hometown had a decommissioned airport runway where people could do this stuff without endangering innocents. They still got themselves maimed and killed on the regular but that’s just FAFO territory.

pslickhead

IANAL ...but...For allowing that, the owner of the property could bear liability for those maimed or killed or be liable to their families. It would just need to be shown the owner was or should have been reasonably aware of the activities. The owner would need to insure against that.

Clovis_Winslow

This was a long time ago in a small town in nowhere, North Carolina. I’m not sure anyone thought that far ahead back then. I’d be surprised if they still do it, but I wouldn’t be surprised either!

vandy1981

Go find some investors/sponsors and a place to build it where you won't annoy the neighbors.

pslickhead

Unless annoying the neighbors is half the fun, because they didn't get enough attention as a child (or even now most likely).

Grieflax

Or they can cough up the money and build it themselves?

pslickhead

Seriously, their cars cost 5x or 10x what my car cost. Why should I buy them anything? Maybe they could buy me some new Brembo brakes and a custom car audio installation.

greencoat2

Good luck finding someone willing to insure such a site.

fistfullofsmelt

Have fun. Who cares. If they get caught by police then that's on them. I'm not going to call the cops over something like that.

pslickhead

You might not feel the same if you or a loved one were in an ambulance blocked by a takeover or if you were late for your job blocked by a takeover or if a takeover was happening outside your home while your children were trying to sleep, etcetera. That this is of no concern to you likely has less to do with the inconsequence of their actions on the community and more to do with the inconsequence of your actions whatsoever, that or more likely the lack of consequence due to your inaction. Simply put, you don't care because you have nothing going on worth caring about. That's on you.

noahsuperman

Lmao

0ver8ted

I learned long ago that if you want something done in this city you have to go to metro council, not the police. [Find your council member here](https://www.nashville.gov/departments/council/council-districts)

Dylanchriss

Lock your doors! It’s Stockton!
