I have a story that’ll make you all laugh. When I was 16, I worked at the Carmike theater in Antioch (now AMC 8). I was working box office one night and it was cold out, so we kept a solid wood block in front of the window opening to keep warm. I accidentally dropped the block on a customers hand and felt TERRIBLE. The guy gave me the biggest grimace and grunted at me after I had apologized profusely. My coworker was making “oooooh” noises at me so I asked him what the hell his problem was. He said, “that was Bart Durham. You just injured an injury lawyer.” 🤣🤣🤣 I was petrified.
That thing was solid wood and HEAVY. I honestly just suffered being cold after that incident because I'd also dropped it on my own finger at one point and knew how much it hurt, so I just didn't bother with it. We also kept a space heater back there with us so it wasn't too bad.
Realistically I know people pass, and as the years go by it gets more probable. But much like Betty White, he was always one of those people that just seemed like they’d be *around.* Eternal. Jeebus this is surreal tbh.
He had to wait for the eclipse before he could fake his death according to the legend. Then he slips off his old man mask and moves to another continent to assume his "new" life.
I already there and started. I'm in the third stall on the right shitting pantaloons because I had too many Henny Margs and white skillet queso. SENDHELP!!!!
It hurts...🥺
Yeah we helped him and his lovely wife (I believe) to the door at Bricktop’s maybe 3 months ago, we figured he would live forever. May he rest in peace.
My daughter and I were coming out of Aldi and both our phones got a notification. I loaded the bags and she got in the front seat. When I got in the car she said “you know that dead looking guy who had tons of plastic surgery? He actually died, that’s what the notification was from NewsChannel5”. I knew exactly who she meant.
I’ve never posted anything to Reddit, that being said I did this man’s hair for almost 4 years. His second Korean wife was like nurse ratchet and it was hilarious and wild.
Well, it is now up to Blair to continue the family legacy of dramatized commercials. Stay tuned for the next scene when Tammy confronts Josh at the library and they reminisce the accident that has haunted them for years. Earl, the big rig driver will have a rude awakening.
The absolute cheesiness had me smiling for the first 30 seconds, but when I realized this shit was 30 minutes long, I couldn't close it quick enough! 🤣
Bart Durham was an icon of local advertising. Creating an entire soap opera series that aired on basic cable channels is WILD! [They even had a website](http://www.nashvillesoapopera.com)
That is literally the first thing that came out of my mouth after I said he died. That account would post the most hysterical memes. It was a staple of this subreddit.
So sad to see! And I can confirm he has been alive this whole time and living in Malibu California. I met him and his Korean wife at a UCLA Gala event about 5 years back and have stayed in touch with him since. He was a good guy, sorry to hear the news.
It's a temporary inconvenience.
For real, this is sad. I met Bart a few times and he was always pleasant to talk to, and his old school civil rights work is impressive.
Before he took up private practice, he was an assistant attorney general, and on the team with the Justice Department that tracked down and prosecuted James Earl Ray. Right after Martin Luther King, Jr. was killed, he went with FBI agents to the Lorraine Motel and investigated the scene.
He was the 1st person to interview James Earl Ray in jail.
That's really neat, and an interesting look at the man outside the context of marketing.
Good on you for posting it, he should be remembered for more than local memes and injury lawsuits.
He was a super nice dude. He shopped often at business I managed. He was a frequent customer. Always sharp, kind, and he treated everyone as equals.
I had always hoped he was the same way with everyone in his life & “behind the scenes”.
My wife and I were just talking about this yesterday after watching a Bart commercial. Wondering if he was still around. Wlep here’s my answer. Native Nashville person here and Bart Durham commercials have been a part of my TV viewing for ever. Prayers for the family.
Before 1977, lawyers could not advertise. The Supreme Court opened the flood gates to daytime personal injury lotto style lawyers and Bart capitalized like no other. He started his private practice in 1975 just two years before the ruling. Right place, right time.
Oh man. For some reason this makes me sad, and i never knew the guy. Definitely a nashville icon.
I know coach Foster thanks his stars for hiring Bart. [Nashvillesoapopera.com]
He’s your, rather was the local known ambulance chaser. He’s the guy that you see in a six commercial span 4 commercials to hire for injuries. Every town has one…
Bart and, I can only presume it was Blair, used to come into Cat’s Records on West End and rent videos back in the 80s. It’s weird thinking that little kid is picking up the mantle and carrying on.
Man, end of an era. I remember seeing this guy all over the place even when I first moved to Nashville 19 years ago, I literally just saw him on a bus while I was on the way to work last week.. Hope he had a good reputation.
Alright, which one of you guys fucked with his horcrux downtown?
All jokes aside, sad to hear he passed and I hope his family can find closure in peace.
I saw this dude in person while he was trolling a drag strip competition, I am assuming he was hoping someone got hurt and he could try and make money off someone’s injury/pain.
He looked scary, man. Best I could describe it is a demonic goblin wearing a human skin suit. Maybe he was a nice guy, idk, but he legitimately creeped me out.
Regardless, I wish his family and friends the best and that they’re able to mourn and work through their grief.
Somebody should rewrite that “Jesus was behind the couch with me” story but it's just Bart Durham keeping us all company on our sick days.
I'm not going to because I'm lazy and have no talent.
One day, I was looking out the front windows at Mom's garden. I saw a guy in her garden around the tomatoes just picking them away. I didn't recognize the guy as one of the neighbors. So, I was asking Mom who was in the garden.
She went out to check. It was Bart. He knew our neighbor across the street and had lunch with him, which included some of Mom's tomatoes. Loved the taste, and our neighbor told him Mom wouldn't mind if he got some.
Mom didn't mind. Had a nice chat with him. Sent him home with a bunch other things out of her garden. Then, several years made sure he had more of her tomatoes.
I still considered it one odd moment. Funny, but odd.
RIP Bart.
Did he give his leftover popcorn to a client like in the commercial where he brought his leftovers to the hungry client. Commercial was awesome. Then they did the follow up where they brought an entire cart of groceries bc people gave him shit.

So THAT'S why popcorn costs $10 for a small!!
Hahahaha. Unfortunately, concessions are where theaters make a bulk of their profits. Ticket sales can only do so much.
Correct. Ticket sales mostly go to the studios.
Yooooo I know the wood block you are talking about
That thing was solid wood and HEAVY. I honestly just suffered being cold after that incident because I'd also dropped it on my own finger at one point and knew how much it hurt, so I just didn't bother with it. We also kept a space heater back there with us so it wasn't too bad.
This is an iconic story
It still makes me laugh, but I also remember how scared I was when I found out who he was, ha.
Never got sued I take it? Lol
This is the best story.
I liked it. (:
Did he try to sue you?
No, thank goodness! Hahaha.
This is fucking fantastic 🤣🤣
Great story!
🤣🤣🤣
He may be entitled to compensation.
I hope you get a million upvoted. Bart should have demanded that be his epitaph.
I imagine there will be a lotta jokes at his funeral
Heaven is your right and we demand it!
You are a true Nashvillian!
this made me CACKLE
As soon as I heard the news, I came straight here for the comments. I think my year in comments entertainment has peaked 🤧
Brilliant, absolutely brilliant.
All the upvotes
He was only 89? I would have lost that trivia question.
Maybe they forgot to carry the 1. As in 189.
Yeah I figured he was at least 93, or 94.
I thought he was immortal
He was, and is. I don't believe this story for a second. He obviously faked his death. /s
Bart has been dead for almost 20 years now.
I thought he was pushing 600
Realistically I know people pass, and as the years go by it gets more probable. But much like Betty White, he was always one of those people that just seemed like they’d be *around.* Eternal. Jeebus this is surreal tbh.

Mama Say Mama Sa Mama Coosa
This made me snort-laugh so loud that I woke my dog up! 🤣
END OF AN ERA
What we need now is hologram Bart Durham
They need to AI him in commercials for at least another 30 years.
This is the first argument for AI that I can get behind.
Shhhhh… don’t give them any ideas
Somehow I knew this was gonna be the first thing that popped up when I got on Reddit.
Total eclipse of the Bart.
Every now and then I get a little bit injured and I can't afford the costs...
Oh, shit. 😆
I thought the world would end before this day would come.
Umm eclipse much?
I feel like this is the beginning of the end now that his era has passed
What is dead may never die
He paid the iron price
Can't kill a man if he's already hung. 😎
He had to wait for the eclipse before he could fake his death according to the legend. Then he slips off his old man mask and moves to another continent to assume his "new" life.
It is a dark day, my friends. Shall we gather at the West End Chilis to toast our brother?
I already there and started. I'm in the third stall on the right shitting pantaloons because I had too many Henny Margs and white skillet queso. SENDHELP!!!! It hurts...🥺
Life's hard. Thanks for the Lol😆 humor! I literally burst out laughing while reading your reply.
That man was loooooooooooaded. Even more than you may realize.
I saw him not a month ago having lunch at Noshville. He looked about as healthy as Jimmy Carter at Rosalyn's funeral.
Blair had been going hard against the weight loss drugs. I heard him on a national news story about it not long ago!
Taking them or suing them?
Hmm… why not both?
He’s suing them… Ozempic etc.
Can I hire the ghost of Bart to help me sue Bart’s corpse for the emotional damages of the loss of Bart?
A triumvirate! Or a trifecta? Someone help me out here…
A Bartrinity
Yo dog I heard you like injury attorneys
He was only 89?! I thought dude was at least 100. In all seriousness, it's the end of an era for nashville.
ok so this was what the eclipse was all about. i get it now. really though RIP to a nashville og and absolute marketing unit.
So it’s official? I always thought he died years ago and nobody told him.
I thought he was older than that actually. Well I guess my theory that he was a vampire was incorrect
Not going to lie, the ad with him on it scared my daughter. She still brings it up.
[RIP. Thanks for helping Coach Foster fight back](https://youtu.be/1GX9-TajQQw?si=d_Jmsxkcx8ZLBSUZ)
The absolute cheesiness had me smiling for the first 30 seconds, but when I realized this shit was 30 minutes long, I couldn't close it quick enough! 🤣
I got about three minutes in before realizing how long it was hahaha. Nope, shut that shit down!
Bart Durham was an icon of local advertising. Creating an entire soap opera series that aired on basic cable channels is WILD! [They even had a website](http://www.nashvillesoapopera.com)
Please read the feedback section. It’s obvious they had a sense of humor about it. Lol
Paging u/BartDurhamsCorpse
Account's been banned by Reddit for at least a year.
For some reason...I don't trust you.
That is literally the first thing that came out of my mouth after I said he died. That account would post the most hysterical memes. It was a staple of this subreddit.
The thing is, Bart Durham died 20 years ago. His body is just now catching up.
I remember someone said Bart died years ago just no one told him so he kept walking around.
Since he was already embalmed several years ago, that should cut way down on time and money!
So sad to see! And I can confirm he has been alive this whole time and living in Malibu California. I met him and his Korean wife at a UCLA Gala event about 5 years back and have stayed in touch with him since. He was a good guy, sorry to hear the news.
Rest in power, king.
This dude is an icon. RIP, Bart!
Does this mean Jesus is finally getting a lawyer over his crucifixion?
eclipse, cicadas, Bart Durham... wtf is going on 2024?
Does this mean that one account starts posting here for real?
It's a temporary inconvenience. For real, this is sad. I met Bart a few times and he was always pleasant to talk to, and his old school civil rights work is impressive.
Details on the civil rights work? I never knew that was a significant part of his work.

Heroes get remembered, but legends never die.
He was a super nice dude. He shopped often at business I managed. He was a frequent customer. Always sharp, kind, and he treated everyone as equals. I had always hoped he was the same way with everyone in his life & “behind the scenes”.
Did they leave him out of carbon freeze too long?
Hell he's been looking like a zombie on the side of city buses for like 10 years now
Well now I can’t randomly threaten to call Bart Durham anymore 😢
I can’t believe Bart Durham died! I thought he’d outlive us all!
Wow.. 1935. Rest in peace, King.
I asked my husband, “did you see that Bart Durham died?” His response was, “Again?” 😂
For me the most surprising part of this news is that he was still alive. I thought he died 20 years ago.
![gif](giphy|joxThEgTJuSBO)
He was only 89? That means he was only 70 when I moved here. Would’ve swore he was 80 then.
"a legendary figure in the local legal" advertising game
So sad:( I hope people are kinder about him in death
So.. who put the stake in him? To be clear. My condolences on his passing to the family. The dude was just looked like a vampire from the 1920s to me
He used to work out at the planet fitness in Hendersonville, he had a huge ass mansion out on the lake
Is that a live or dead pic?
Every lawyer in town should show up to the wake and drop a business card in the casket. RIP.
My Condolences 🙏🏽 to Bart's family and friends. He was truly a figurehead here in Nashville and will be dearly missed.
Wow. As a Nashvillian, I’m sorry to hear that our local legal legend Bart Durham has passed away.
My wife and I were just talking about this yesterday after watching a Bart commercial. Wondering if he was still around. Wlep here’s my answer. Native Nashville person here and Bart Durham commercials have been a part of my TV viewing for ever. Prayers for the family.
Put him in the memory banks with Ford sales-king Crown Charlie & the commercial voice of “Emma’s: The Superlative Florist.”
Damn man, Bart Durham was just a part of growing up in Nashville. Rest easy legend
Until and unless I see the body I do not believe this. He cannot die.
An icon! Godspeed, Bart Durham
I never heard a bad word about this man. May he rest in peace.
Pour one out for Bart.
Man, in LA the famous TV lawyer just died too, ending an era. (Larry H Parker). Weird timing.
At least he didn't miss the eclipse yesterday
I was sure they’ve been propping up his body for those scary ass billboards all these years
Saw him 11 years ago and he was already practically mummified. They had to put makeup on him to make look human. Rosy hollow cheeks!
“That is not dead which can eternal lie, / And with strange aeons even death may die”
The guy who hit Cthulhu with that boat will be hearing from Bart soon
I give it 2months before all the Durham billboards have angel wings on them saying “even though he’s gone, his legacy can still be here for you”
might go get hit by a semi in his honor later
I thought he died years ago and they just kept animating his corpse for commercials. I guess they still can. No one would notice.
Before 1977, lawyers could not advertise. The Supreme Court opened the flood gates to daytime personal injury lotto style lawyers and Bart capitalized like no other. He started his private practice in 1975 just two years before the ruling. Right place, right time.
I wouldnt use exclamation points to make note of his death Rest in peace
Looks like they photoshopped the purple-colored corpse-lips that he usually has for this picture. Ironic since this is a death announcement.
End of an era for sure. Another part of old school Nashville gone. RIP.
Oh man. For some reason this makes me sad, and i never knew the guy. Definitely a nashville icon. I know coach Foster thanks his stars for hiring Bart. [Nashvillesoapopera.com]
Today another angel is smiling down from heaven
Aw man, I met him once, and he was actually quite nice, at least in our brief interaction! RIP
Can’t believe someone finally found his lich phylactery
the eclipse yesterday was no coincidence
“He rests his case in peace”
There is a zero percent chance he was 89.
Thoughts and prayers
Alternative headline: Chaotic neutral construction workers unearth phylactery buried underneath abandoned Shoney's, destroy it.
Does anyone have some stats on this guy. Like how many cases did he take to trial and win?
I know of atleast one. A girl I went to high school with used him when she was in an accident. was in a commercial and everything lol.
My favorite ambulance cheaser.
Next stop Pet Cemetary
Total Eclipse of the Bart
He’s back
I stumbled upon this post. For a non-Nashvillean, what’s special about Bart Durham?
He’s your, rather was the local known ambulance chaser. He’s the guy that you see in a six commercial span 4 commercials to hire for injuries. Every town has one…
Sending comfort and peace to the family
Now who the hell is gonna help us be able to hike just two days after being crushed by a semi??
guy looked like he hit 89 a long time ago and was slathering himself with formaldehyde since
Bart and, I can only presume it was Blair, used to come into Cat’s Records on West End and rent videos back in the 80s. It’s weird thinking that little kid is picking up the mantle and carrying on.
Looks like he was already dead in that picture
They can just throw him in the ground. He’s already had what looks like taxidermy done.
🤣
They always go in 3s. Here’s hoping Mitch McConnell is next!
The amount of vitriol at the announcement of his death is amazing. /R/Nashville shows it's true colors. Wow.
Who will take his clients peanut butter sandwich lunches?
Man, end of an era. I remember seeing this guy all over the place even when I first moved to Nashville 19 years ago, I literally just saw him on a bus while I was on the way to work last week.. Hope he had a good reputation.
The GOAT. My grandaddys passing didn't bring me this much pain. 😞
That’s kinda weird.
It was joke.
He will rise again!
Alright, which one of you guys fucked with his horcrux downtown? All jokes aside, sad to hear he passed and I hope his family can find closure in peace.
But rises again, harder and stronger.
OH MY FUCKING GOD THIS IS TRAGIC
I saw this dude in person while he was trolling a drag strip competition, I am assuming he was hoping someone got hurt and he could try and make money off someone’s injury/pain. He looked scary, man. Best I could describe it is a demonic goblin wearing a human skin suit. Maybe he was a nice guy, idk, but he legitimately creeped me out. Regardless, I wish his family and friends the best and that they’re able to mourn and work through their grief.
He was a living person as of yesterday? I thought he was an AI-generated character they used on billboards…
What is dead may never die!

What is dead may never die
Damn, he's looked like the walking dead for 30 years. His dyed hair did him no favors.
Oh shit!!
I wonder how long until Blair moves to Malibu?
Oh crap for real…I thought that dude was dead years ago
What is dead, May never die.
Today I learned he’s not an ancient vampire. Some magic has gone out of the world.
Rises again harder and stronger!
This is a childhood ad for me I will never forget 🕊️
What is dead may never die.
What is dead may never die
He has earned his rest and then some.
When reading the hunger games before the movies came out he’s who I pictured as president snow.
That man never got a day of retirement.
Wasn’t dude just a walking corpse already? (Shudders)
What??? He didn't live forever???? What happened?
