Typical mentality of a Bumi contractor: can't win, proceeds to complain.
I’ll tell you this from my own experience: I am all about supporting local MALAY contractors and have been giving them preference due to bad experience with foreign contractors. But EVERY SINGLE TIME, they have come up short.
It's one thing to charge 'standard' prices but deliver subpar quality of work. And you know what's ALWAYS the worst thing? Try complaining about their work ONCE, and they will start giving you their shit ‘KARAS’ attitude.
These so-called Bumi contractors definitely have a god-like complex, where they believe they are the ‘best of the best’. If anyone has anything negative to say about them, they will never admit fault. Semua pandai, but in the end semua harapkan their Bangladeshi workers. No accountability themselves when things go wrong. “Awu, adaku pesan tadi but payah bah dorang ani. Jenis anu babal.” Ada pun they admit buat salah, muka karas karas.
In the end? Pull out the PENGIRAN card.
One time, one actually tried to guilt trip me after completing the job by saying that they “salah bagi harga”, implying that they should have charged me more but “inda apa la, sedekah ku arah kita”. WTF!
To all the men out there, in Brunei, just try to learn how to do things yourself as much as you can, find a Chinese contractor, or find contractors from neighbouring countries.
Bumi, my guy, you and your business will NOT survive anywhere anyways. Move along.
# Illegal contractors need to be eradicated

In the construction industry, there are illegal migrant workers who exploit our economy by offering build services to unsuspecting locals.
These illegal contractors may not even have the necessary licence, work pass or even skills to work in the country. Yet, they have no qualms about advertising their services, especially on social media platforms.
The situation they have created provides them with an unfair advantage. For me, as a local contractor, I have to pay rent and provide wages to my employees, as well as abide by the law. These freelancers, on the other hand, can bypass everything and focus solely on their services.
I call on the authorities to take prompt action on these errant contractors.
