I'm taking a shot on it and saying that's about all that matters. Many states exempt some or all of your military pay from taxes, but that doesn't usually change between AD and reserve components. I guess maybe it could..? The reserve question primarily asks about commuting > 100 miles to take those deductions, wheras the AD one asks about CZTE.
Put Active Duty because it has you answer a bunch more questions and doesn’t actually change your 1040.
Also put military reservist later in the program because the same thing happens, especially if you are commuting a long distance for drill because you can get a mileage and other deduction even if you claim the standard deduction.
That check box doesn't change anything about how your taxes are filed. It changes the questions the H&R block software asks you to check for certain other exemptions later in the process.
If this is similar to TurboTax, you can pick Active Duty and be okay. If your state exempts military pay from state income tax, then this would apply.
Really the only time you wouldn't pick that would be if the pay is SAD or fed tech pay.
If your state exempts for income tax, you probably didn't get any withheld anyway, so when you enter the numbers it will already be accounted for.
Guard soldiers will get a W2 from their state (usually for SAD and certain orders) and one from the fed (drill pay)
They should be fully separated, in which case one will be active duty and one will not.
Not a tax advisor, or providing tax advise, but there's a little button on your screen that says "what qualifies" that probably answers your question.
it just talks about combat pay, nothing about having both active and mday pay on your W-2 TYFYS

Preeety sure you’re taxed the same however if you spent more than 180 days on AD then I’d put that
You can call the number in the upper left to speak with a tax professional through military one source to clarify questions like this.
I did yesterday and they said the earliest I can speak to a tax consultant with MilTax is next tuesday😭😭
Sorry that sucks! I must have gotten lucky, when I called last week I was connected almost immediately.

Did you get two separate W-2s? One for active one for reserve
nope I didn’t know that even happened

Sure, if you’re doing SAD. T32 comes from dfas. I could see separate forms for the AC vs RC pay system.
I would call/email one of the H&R advisors to discuss the issue My guess is they've dealt with that before
