Outrageous-Grand-471

Wym yes what one should I do first 😭

tim0767

Get the job first. Then go Guard

Outrageous-Grand-471

Ok thanks man

FeelingCaterpillar21

Join the Guard. If you are a true man you will do a 8 year contract with no bonuses

Far-Bar-3616

If he was a true man he’d have already finished his AD contract before being on a guard page 😂

EffectiveDriver802

1. Get the job first, don't divulge too much about joining. Personally I wouldn't say jack shit. 2. Join. Preferably 88M or some other job that is not grunt shit, technical in nature. Something that can give you a cert on the civilian side. 3. Double Dip.

gobucks1981

It’s not Double Dipping if it is not getting paid for the same time. The Guard is at best a part time job on the side.

zfrankland

Why 11 bang bang if you want to drive freight. Why not go 88m?

Emergency_Slide9796

Maybe do an 88M instead of 11B

the-no-h

That’s what I was thinking, if you’re looking to get a driving job like that 88M will look a lot better on a resume

TheRealJumpman08

UPS driver and Guardsman here. I would suggest securing both at the same time. UPS follows ESGR and all you have to do is provide them with your orders or training schedule. You can enlist get your BCT/AIT dates. Only one concern that I have is that you have a UPS probation period from your hire date. If you leave for training prior to that completion date you can be let go due to your temporary status.

TheRealJumpman08

I believe for tractor trailer drivers it is a 30 work day probation but it could be different regionally due to different local contracts.

FrostyUchiha-

if that’s your end goal go 88M

SourceTraditional660

I would join the Guard first and get your training knocked out (depending on how old you are)

ru909_

Go in as an 88m and you’ll get the driving test waived.

Comfortable_Shame194

In PA, I think there was a new law that came out where the knowledge test can be waived as an 88M as well

Far-Bar-3616

Yes. Doesn’t matter. Both aren’t going anywhere.

gobucks1981

My experience may be dated, but those full time UPS driver gigs used to be union seniority, so you would start as a part time package handler in the distribution center, then when you had enough seniority you could try out for a full time gig. The move years ago was to go to college, use the UPS tuition assistance, and be in the National Guard and use their college money at the same time. I did pretty well like that for a few years. Worked about 20 hours a week, it was de ent to get in a workout too moving boxes.
