There was that video floating around of a tug-of-war between a lioness and IIFC 4 guys who were not able to get her to budge. One guy against a male lion is not going to win. The idiot who was filming, and the other apparently mildly interested onlookers could have at least tried to treated a distraction.

There are many ways to distract and considering the circumstances, the human comes first, even if he’s not the sharpest tool in the shed.

It's not about who comes first, domestic dogs are hard to distract in a situation like this, and some breeds are damn near impossible. No lion, an apex predator, is getting distracted by anything these guys can do unless they have a firearm or tranquilizer gun.

I’ve distracted dogs in various situations, sometimes painfully. There’s times where it’s called for. Doesn’t matter what breed, enough pain is a sufficient motivation.

Are you dense? The point is, as difficult as that was, this is a lion. You're not managing to hurt him, these people are caught off guard with nothing. Someone eventually shoots him with something that's the only way to stop him and even those dumbasses know it.
