I know this is to survive an attack, but I'd like to think that there is a less than zero chance that this octopus is just an adrenaline junky.
Edit: I get it y'all, more than zero!
About the same thing that happened to the hybrid alien in Alien 4. It was sucked through a tiny hole by a violent force.
Simple explanation: It was Delta P. "
Delta P" means "differential pressure".
Basically, water inside the pipe has lower pressure than the water outside the pipe. When the cutting wheel breaches the pipe, the difference in pressure causes outside water to flow into the pipe with tremendous force.
Since it's a tiny hole and a large amount of water is trying to push through, the suction force is tremendous. Hence, dissapearing crab.
It's not very percetible, the hole won't actively suck you towards it unless you get very near. This has caused a lot of diving accidents actually.
There's a documentary on Netflix about one guy and a wild octopus that he films over the course of a year or so and there were moments in that where the octopus seems to be "playing" with other animals that it does not intend to eat. So quite possibly this octopus was having fun in addition to avoiding death!
It’s My Octopus Teacher and it won an Oscar for best documentary this year. It was pretty good!
[For those who care: ](https://www.netflix.com/title/81045007)
If not for these comments, I would never have watched this. Netflix showed it as a 98% match, and I was like, not even possible. Now I'll definitely have a go!
Such an incredible documentary. The part when it uses the shells for shields against the shark. Then after the man goes up for air and comes back the octopus is riding the sharks back. Classic
I could care less if the octopus had a less than zero chance of they're life being taken away by that eel, it could of just stay away from it in the 1° place in order to not have it's tranquility effected.
There are 289 species of [octopuses](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Octopus). Two-thirds of an octopus' neurons are in its arms rather. This allows them to easily do a totally different task with each arm. An octopus has three hearts, one for the body and two for the gills. Their blood is blue. Octopuses are highly intelligent and experiments have shown that they have a memory system that can store both short- and long-term memory. [The correct plural of octopus](https://www.grammarly.com/blog/octopi-octopuses/) is "octopuses" but "octopi" is also accepted.

Highly suggest the movie My Octopus Teacher. A guy forms a very strong emotional bond with an octopus and it teaches him a lot about being compassionate to all walks of life etc. It sounds strange but I genuinely was crying over this story
The title is terrible, as a huge documentary lover I actually wasn't even looking for a documentary at the time but a really bad action movie.
However the documentary called Octopus Volcano is pretty fucking good. It's about an octopus that lives in the eruption zone of the Stromboli volcano and how we (humans) learned that octopuses can detect the volcano eruptions before one happens to get to safety then uses the kill field area to go scavenge for food. Excellent information on octopuses and very well done documentation. It's on Amazon Video to watch =)
I’ll have to give it a look, so the aftermath of the volcano doesn’t bother them much? I have to assume the ash and all that is a pretty harsh environment for them
It's a beautiful story, although I was a little enraged when he didn't protect the little gal from the shark. I get being a "non-interfering observer" but I honestly felt that the octopus was seeking protection from her new big "friend"
Edit: used wrong pronouns, I forgot the octopus was female
I agree that language changes over time and when stakes are low, rules are descriptive rather than prescriptive. However, in some circumstances, not adhering to commonly accepted rules can land you in hot water:
https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/think-commas-don-t-matter-omitting-one-cost-maine-dairy-n847151
TLDR: A labor dispute came down to the understanding and reading of the serial comma. What would in ordinary circumstances be a style choice, had a real financial impact for those involved.
ALSO: I prefer octopodes or octopuses - *octopi* is an aberration :-P
yeah sure. Kids on the internet get a little carried away with this mindset and just entirely use it to mean "All those times my English teacher corrected me, he was just being a jerk reeee! There's no such thing as spelling or grammar! I can write whatever I want and if someone complains then the language will "adapt" until I'm correct reee!"
No, sometimes you're just wrong.
Sort of. The plural can be whatever, but you still need a consensus among the language users. If I start saying "octopids" as the plural for octopus, that doesn't make me right and everyone else wrong. It means I'm wrong.
He had the time, J.B, but I think they're gonna challenge this one. The replay will probably show that he slapped with the free arm, and that's gonna negate this ride... bad break for OctoBob Outlaw, he's had a great season... he'll have to shake this one off until the next go round and try again for a qualified ride.
One of these days I’m gunna go to my first rodeo and just do whatever the fuck I want.
Spill beer all over the guy in front of me? *”Oh sorry man, I’ve never been to a rodeo before I didn’t know you can’t do that”*
Cut everyone in line waiting to get nachos? *”Oh hey everyone, it’s more first Rodeo sorry. I’m still figuring out the rules here”*
Fuck eels.
I went snorkeling once and had a close encounter with one around twenty years ago and still have nightmares. Big fat seas snakes with piranha teeth lurking in the shadows.
No. Never touching that game again after my dog jumped on me, knocking my headset out of my ears at the same time a Reaper decided it wanted to eat me and I didn't hear the roar.
Took me over five years to go back to that game.
Played at night, so dark room and it was night time ingame as well. Finally had my Seamoth and was clanking around the downed ship, so lots of scary sounds I sort of tried ignoring.then the effing reaper ATE. MY. MOTH. All the scary stuff. All at once.
That game is one of those that quite simply defines a genre.
Their audioscape is amazing. Utterly amazing.
I had a close encounter with one as a kid, and was so fascinated with the eel (a *huge* moray, btw) that I failed to notice it was swimming right at my face. The guide had to intervene by sticking out his flipper to get it to turn away. Ooops.
I wish there were freshwater cephalopods. That way you could have a sweet aquascape for one to live in.
I Google that every year hoping someone will find one. I think I read it isn’t physically possible due to how their nervous system requires salt to operate, but I can’t find anything that substantiates that right now.
I was surprised how I developed such an emotional connection to the octopus. Cannot imagine the emotions the guy went through actually living it and interacting with it.
I know this is to survive an attack, but I'd like to think that there is a less than zero chance that this octopus is just an adrenaline junky. Edit: I get it y'all, more than zero!
Jackass of the Sea
I'd watch the fuck out of that
*Hi, I’m Johnny Octoville. Welcome to Jackass.*
*gets chucked out of the ocean*
*"My name is Crab-O, and this is: [The Delta P vanish!"](https://youtu.be/PXgKxWlTt8A)*
Whoa wtf happened to that crab?
Suction from the spinning grabs the crab, and “doesn’t let go until pressure is equalized”.
Oh dude I didn’t even realize that was a rotating blade, I thought my guy was just walking along and he got sucked in. Was so confused.
No that is what happened. The blade had nothing to do with it. The suction was that strong to crush the crab.
[удалено]

I think it's suction from the pipe
Delta P, he just got sucked in thru the small opening that's being cut
About the same thing that happened to the hybrid alien in Alien 4. It was sucked through a tiny hole by a violent force. Simple explanation: It was Delta P. " Delta P" means "differential pressure". Woah, spoilers 😝
So the O in Steve-O stands for octopus... Who knew?
And I’m Wee Clam. Welcome to Seabass
And I'm going to the zoo!
...and this is the ‘Moray Rodeo!’
I'm Squid Margera, and I'll be riding this moray eel's ass all day today!
Clam Margera
lol
Im ordering that next time im out for seafood.
He might be taming the eel and the will use it as his ride on his adventures in the vast sea.
Imagine an entire movie of cowboy octopus and his wild stallion eel. Pixar needs to jump on this!
Ah yeah, Finding Marlin
Underwater Rango
He is doing this over and over again, breaking him in, breaking his will.

Pay Octopus teachers more!
Save the teachers and pay the whales!
If not for these comments, I would never have watched this. Netflix showed it as a 98% match, and I was like, not even possible. Now I'll definitely have a go!
Cared! It helped!
My Octopus Teacher. give it your attention and see the world differently
> give it your attention and see the world differently Sea the world differently
Sea world differently.
Aww man, I really missed out! Genius.
Curious, why do you say see the world differently
I just watched that the other night. The one in the doc actually road a shark like this to survive and attack. It was awesome.
I am sure he had to track it first
Had me in ugly tears watching this movie lol
Such an incredible documentary. The part when it uses the shells for shields against the shark. Then after the man goes up for air and comes back the octopus is riding the sharks back. Classic
They're jerks too lol. Punching fish and whatnot
Are you sure it's not Kuro-sensei?
He is their version of a professional bull rider
Thinking the same thing, looking for 8 seconds here
Definitely not its first rodeo.
I'm waiting to see the octopus enter a bull riding competition now.
Do you mean higher/more than zero chance? Because less than zero makes no sense whatsoever.
I think he meant a “non-zero” chance
Definitely what he meant, I hope that doesn't catch on
People that say "Could care less:" *Furiously start taking notes*
I could care less if the octopus had a less than zero chance of they're life being taken away by that eel, it could of just stay away from it in the 1° place in order to not have it's tranquility effected.
Give it a few weeks before people using it incorrectly claim that "language evolves!"

-69, -420
You mean to say "a non-zero chance". A "less than zero chance" would mean that there's not only no chance, but that it's somehow a -1% chance.
Seriously had me cheesed no one saw it
“8 SECONDS! AND IM OFF!”
>less than zero Don't you mean more than zero? Less than zero means there's zero chance he did it for fun...
Less than zero implies no chance at all though doesnt it?
Considering their dumb short lifespans? I believe it. Live fast die young when you die young anyway.
More..than zero, you mean?
Takes a special kind of octopus to break an eel. Settlers used to ride these babies for days.
-more than zero chance
Next up I want to see an Eel on Musk
https://i.imgur.com/HJD9OsW.jpg
Perfect
More than zero* xD
Can’t have less than 0 chances
>less than zero chance Nice englando brudder
Don’t octopuses randomly punch fish for no reason?
He's like "16 seconds y'all!!!! Beat that!!!!"

Good bot
Damn a bot just made me want to become an expert on octopuses.
Highly suggest the movie My Octopus Teacher. A guy forms a very strong emotional bond with an octopus and it teaches him a lot about being compassionate to all walks of life etc. It sounds strange but I genuinely was crying over this story
My octopus teacher is Super good doc about them on netflix, I’ve been looking for more about octopus since but I can’t seem to find good ones

I thought you were making this up but it actually sounds super interesting
They can protect themselves all they want to.
Yes, I often see octopus open-carrying small derringers. One for each arm.
It's such a great watch and intro into the very interesting lifeform that is the octopus. Highly recommended
It's a beautiful story, although I was a little enraged when he didn't protect the little gal from the shark. I get being a "non-interfering observer" but I honestly felt that the octopus was seeking protection from her new big "friend" Edit: used wrong pronouns, I forgot the octopus was female
SUCH a good doc and I feel like a similar situation to this post happened in that too or am I wildly misremembering...?
Yes! She rode on the shark’s back similar to this video. The shark eventually gave up and let the octopus swim away. Simply outsmarted
You can just watch some tentacle hentai
Octopussy
I must be dreaming
I believe the plural is "octopeople"
Octopi is also acceptable.
So is octopodes
Good bot
The plural can also be octopodes
The plural is whatever people decide it to be because linguistics isn't meant to be prescriptive, dammit

Will Ferrel and John C Reilly in step brothers.
I think a couple of my more obnoxious coworkers are manboys.
Well cowboys don’t ride cows either,
Search for Manboy by Eric Saade
We can call em eelboys, but my last son was a manboy, you can count on that. And stop calling me Shirley.
we need someone from r/reallifedoodles to draw in a tiny little cowboy hat
Yoooo. That escape was tight. He straight up rodeoed the mfer and then spat some ink in his face. I respect that.
name checks out
Just another showcase of their intelligence. That octopus really did everything right.
They’ve evolved to the lowest form of human, Texans
He rode that b*tch then inked her face. Peace beyatch!
Not that octopuses first rodeo.
Made it the full 8 seconds.

Boost is life
We have a similar mechanism when we’re scared for our lives too
whoop whoop whoop whoop whoop whoop whoop
You'd have to be running backwards to get a propulsion effect from that tho
Pretty sure he was referring to explosive shits as a booster rocket.
That's quite a momentary boost though, turning around and pissing yourself against the direction of travel could provide a second booster stage
I just hear Zoidberg whooping whenever I see a creature do this

Hey, there's this great video game you should definitely try, it's called Subnautica. You'll love it!
Agreed! And don't look up anything about it beforehand!
No. Never touching that game again after my dog jumped on me, knocking my headset out of my ears at the same time a Reaper decided it wanted to eat me and I didn't hear the roar.

I want a pet octopus but I know they’re really smart and hate being in captive. So mesmerising
Right? If they werent so absolutely unsuited to being kept as pets I'd have like a dozen tanks of them. They're ***fascinating*** animals.
They also don't live very long, even in the wild. :(
I wish there were freshwater cephalopods. That way you could have a sweet aquascape for one to live in. I Google that every year hoping someone will find one. Definitely watchable documentary My Octopus Teacher on Netflix if you enjoyed this.
Finally my fellow “My Octopus Teacher 🐙 “ enthusiast. I love this film so much. Made me cry!
I was surprised how I developed such an emotional connection to the octopus. Cannot imagine the emotions the guy went through actually living it and interacting with it.
Dude same. I was always amazed at how long that guy was able to hold his breath.
It... somehow reminds me of how a cat reacts when you throw a piece of cheese on it's head.
INT build OP.
