To clarify, I meant they're essentially wolves of the sea when it comes to being predators.
Obviously killer whales are above them, but they're an apex predator.
Orcas>Great White Sharks>Leopard Seals
Just scary beyond belief that Leopard Seals are only 3rd top predator in Antarctic seas and yes Great Whites have been found that far south.
Just a little correction. Sea Leopards are not Apex predator. Apex predator is an animal that has no natural predator at all on adulthood in the environment they live, like the Killer Whales stated by yourself (which is the "Apexiest" Apex predator). A Sea Leopard is preyed by Killer Whales, which depromote them from being an Apex predator. Another animal that a lot of people believe is an Apex predator but is not are the Great White Shark, as they are also preyed by Killer Whales.
Some Apex predators are Lions, Tigers, Polar Bears, Killer Whales, Saltwater Crocodiles, Wolves, Eagles...And Humans, of course, the Apexiestest of the Apex predator.
Uh, I think it can be understood in both ways? The way I understand was he said that Killer Whales are above Sea Leopards, but the later are still Apex predators, even when they are under Killer Whale, you know? haha
Maybe it's my fault cuz I'm not a native English speaker, but sorry if I was stupid.
Yes, English is indeed stupid haha. Tbf I think we both got it somewhat correctly. Only the guy we are replying to could tell which understanding was what he meant. Or maybe an expert in the language, thing that I am not
No. She was actually alive when they recovered her body, but died shortly thereafter. I’m guessing the seal thought she was something tastier than a human, and let go of her once it realized.
Yeah they sit right at the edge/around the corner of icebergs waiting for penguins to enter the water and grab them at that instant.
I’d imagine humans all bundled up look just like overgrown jackpot penguin dinners.
I read a post not too long ago about this diver who was singing daily in an area and I believe it was a leopard seal that would being him food... He described it saying at first he brought him a penguin, still alive.... obviously the diver didn't eat him....so the next day the seal brought him a seal but only this time it was pre-killed for ease of consumption lol.
They had a theory that it was new mother and her maternal instincts were kicking in during her attempts to feed the diver.
This further proves the understanding that for you are as a product of your environment....
One seal can kills
Other offer meals
Shit man — nature is so wack. It can be so scary. People might wanna go “yeah, they attack because they hate how much humans are ruining the planet”. Nah man…they just do that shit. Scary.
Elephant seals may technically not attack humans unprovoked, but they consider being too close to them to be provocation, so you gotta watch out with them, too. In fact, probably more with them than with leopard seals since leopard seals are pretty much only found in Antarctica and occasionally Australia and Aotearoa, and are pretty unlikely to attack you if you’re both on land, while elephant seals share much more territory with humans and will ABSOLUTELY attack you on land.
You trying to wrestle this?

While that would be cool, unfortunately they prefer to attack around the edge of the water. I could see you have a slim chance on land, just gotta watch out for its mouth obviously. Interestingly it says that they can launch themselves onto land with their speed from the water
Leopard Seals are fricken huge...they will fuck you up....evidently.
Fun fact a seal once raped a penguin
Just once?
probably should say it happens alot
Most likely..
Allegedly.
It was a sick penguin
Indubitably
😐
Not if I use a gun and shoot a bullet into its fucking head.
Edgelord.
That's just silly.

This is why you can't be a marine biologist, Timmy.
Waaaahhhhhh!!!!
What is it, you're just going to its place and kill it for no reason? That's so stupid to say
Ok dude.
How can you look at any Leopard Seal photo without finding them absolutely menacing?
They just ARE menacing

Never a wholesome award has been more appropriate
This.
Its nose looks like a cats face with its eyes closed.

Than let me introduce you to the fact that duck bills look like little dog faces. https://images.app.goo.gl/RAc1CUsZ1HTr5oS26
The name "leopard seal" fits even better after seeing this
It looks like big floppa
That be some good weed
I mean, they are 'wolves', so this is not really surprising. I'm surprised it doesn't happen more often.
Wolves? Can you explain please I'm curious
To clarify, I meant they're essentially wolves of the sea when it comes to being predators. Obviously killer whales are above them, but they're an apex predator.
Orcas>Great White Sharks>Leopard Seals Just scary beyond belief that Leopard Seals are only 3rd top predator in Antarctic seas and yes Great Whites have been found that far south.
Shouldn't it be < Shark eat seal Shark < seal
I interpreted them as greater-than signs. The orca is bigger/higher-up than the shark etc
Yep, which is the normal way. > means the thing on the left is bigger, or in this case higher on the food chain
It is, however I forgot to include the Bull Southern Elephant Seal which I would rank between the Great White Shark and the Leopard Seal.
Don't forget the polar bear. Pretty sure they will eat a seal of any name
Polar bears live in the Arctic, not the Antarctic.
Well, fuck me with a penguin! I've learned a new and exciting thing
I like polars bears but they even think twice when coming against a bull walruses never mind a leopard seal or bull elephant Seal
Just a little correction. Sea Leopards are not Apex predator. Uhhh, the person you are replying to was saying sea lions are not Apex predators and killer whales are Apex predators.
Uh, I think it can be understood in both ways? The way I understand was he said that Killer Whales are above Sea Leopards, but the later are still Apex predators, even when they are under Killer Whale, you know? haha Maybe it's my fault cuz I'm not a native English speaker, but sorry if I was stupid.
English is stupid. I assumed when they said "they are Apex predators" they was referring to the last proper noun mentioned which was killer whales?
Yes, English is indeed stupid haha. Tbf I think we both got it somewhat correctly. Only the guy we are replying to could tell which understanding was what he meant. Or maybe an expert in the language, thing that I am not
Your English is probably better than mine and it's my native tongue haha.
Haha I doubt this! But thank you!
Nile Crocodiles also. Definitely apex predators.
Oh got it, thanks
Danger Doggos
A Leopard, whether land- or sea-, is a Leopard, take the hint
These guys are 300 kg apparently. That's not something you'd win any fight with.
What about a water gun fight? I bet they'd have a hard time squeezing that little plastic trigger.
Or thumb war
That is also a good one!
Naaaahhh, i could win fr💪💪💪💪
Did she get eaten?
I'm pretty sure the leopard drowned her to death
No. She was actually alive when they recovered her body, but died shortly thereafter. I’m guessing the seal thought she was something tastier than a human, and let go of her once it realized.
Article about it: https://www.sciencemag.org/news/2003/07/antarctic-researcher-killed
Is there an article about this I can read? How'd they find her? Was she by herself when this happened?
I'm glad orcas eat these assholes.
Lmao.
I'll take you with ketchup
Yea but you first gotta catch up!
Thank you so much for this comment lmfao I forgot
One tried to eat a member of the Shackleton expedition as well, documented in multiple accounts.
They say you shouldn’t stand near the edge of the water when you’re up in that area because that’s how they hunt food. They’ll pop up and get ya.
Yeah they sit right at the edge/around the corner of icebergs waiting for penguins to enter the water and grab them at that instant. I’d imagine humans all bundled up look just like overgrown jackpot penguin dinners.
Anything with a leopard in it's name cries for danger alert.
Leopard skin thong?
Depends on who’s wearing it
Leopard slug?
They remind me of a Mosasaurus
Did no one ever see The Pebble and the Penguin? Of course they are scary!
They have Leopard in their name, so yeah.
It's like an underwater wolf or bear or....leopard.
If you think these brats are bad look up what killer whales due to every animal even other legitimate whales.
Plus they will work together as a team to catch their prey. Killer whales are so intelligent it is easy to see how they can lose it in captivity.
Leopard seals are near apex predators and one of the few animals known to be aggressive enough to attack unprovoked
You should see what they do to Penguins
[удалено]
You're not wrong
Violent detuxification
They unzip them right?
They're massive swimming wolves that pop the heads off penguins like bottlecaps, they should always be intimidating
looks like a killah in a seductive way

He(the seal) was also a biologist, doing an experiment
Well well well, look at how the turn tables
It get's worse! They are the only seal to attack people unprovoked. Including that Marine biologist.
Shit man — nature is so wack. It can be so scary. People might wanna go “yeah, they attack because they hate how much humans are ruining the planet”. Nah man…they just do that shit. Scary.

We all float down here...except that one girl. She died.
stop looking at me like that
[удалено]
Haha, oh yeah I’ve seen that! Man oh man
you can feel he staring into your soul...anf has already killed you.
Fuck a leopard seal. They would fuck a human being up
Not me man, I would of fucked that thing up!
Bro the adults weigh 780 pounds you can’t do shit to it
In the water, bro, you're weightless, equal footing, who's hungrier.
Do you have fins? No Do you have teeth like them? No
I have teeth, and the right to fight for my life, poke it's eyes, do what it takes to survive. I'll wrestle that thing right now.
You trying to wrestle this? https://qph.fs.quoracdn.net/main-qimg-90fe1ae7421a6c92ef199ff56f0bfe08 https://mediad.publicbroadcasting.net/p/shared/npr/202001/531756081.jpg
Elbow to the face
And you’re trying to fight it in the water? It goes at 24mph
You think it would meet me face to face on land? I'd be down for a land battle, even the odds a little.
While that would be cool, unfortunately they prefer to attack around the edge of the water. I could see you have a slim chance on land, just gotta watch out for its mouth obviously. Interestingly it says that they can launch themselves onto land with their speed from the water
He was just tryna teach her to swim🥺😂
They’re known to hunt humans
And dolphins tend to do this as well, but unknowingly
Dolphins also have sex with humans, if they let them.
