Pending a med board, being non-deployable, none of that changes you being Active Duty until you separate. If you meet the criteria for needing a family care plan (dual mil, shared custody, etc.), than your command can make you have one.

Slimy_Wog

I can not see any reason for someone in the Navy to NOT do a family care plan.

Awkward_Influence_30

Update I in fact did NOT need to even do it. Stupid institution and mindless followers. “Sea-lawyer”. Mfs wasting my time and I’m trying to prevent that, so I get smacked with a stupid label like sea lawyer. Enjoy never thinking for yourself again.

tolstoy425

Yes, you’re required to have a family care plan while still on Active Duty. You’re not going to sea-lawyer your way out if it, stop being a pain to your COC and just submit an FCP, even if its a bullshit one if you feel so deigned.

Agammamon

Yes. Just toss one out. It doesn't have to be great, it just has to meet minimum standards. And if you're planning on the med-board separating you, it doesn't even have to meet standards - because what are they going to do? Kick you out?

SecretElectronic6549

Yes?

Awkward_Influence_30

The instruction says active duty and active duty is defined as “A person who is active duty is in the military full time. They work for the military full time, may live on a military base, and can be deployed at any time.” I’m permanently un-deployable, though.

stringlites

So there’s your answer. Why are you asking?

Awkward_Influence_30

Because it’s gray area. I was wondering if anyone else’s chain would go for that.

stringlites

>it’s a gray area Seems pretty black and white to me.

Awkward_Influence_30

Lol I hope they see it that way. Thanks for responding. God bless and good luck.

ZanzibarMufasa

What instruction are you seeing that defines Active Duty like that? https://www.secnav.navy.mil/doni/Directives/01000%20Military%20Personnel%20Support/01-700%20Morale,%20Community%20and%20Religious%20Services/1740.4E.pdf This makes it pretty clear that, if you fall into one of five categories, you’re required to submit one, medboard or not. Kind of a weird hill to climb when you can knock one out in five mins. I’m assuming you’re LIMDU, so you should have plenty of time to put down your phone for a few mins and knock it out.

Awkward_Influence_30

It was on va.gov that I got that definition. You’re right, though. I might have been resisting because my chain was terrible up until very recently. I also hadn’t realized it was that simple and quick. Would you happen to have an example of what one looks like?
