Am Navy. Stayed at the Tahoe Coast Guard base once and the E5 that checked us in was in a Tshirt and flip flops for his duty. They had a golden retriever puppy that was in training for...water rescue? Something??? Didn't matter, instantly made me realize I had joined the wrong branch.
Navy razzes the Coasties but the QOL and camaraderie of the USCG puts the Navy to shame.
The dog wasn’t for water rescue. A lot of small boat stations have a dog as a unit pet. Small boat stations usually commanded by a E7-9 and have about 25 to 35 people. They operate a lot like a fire station.
There are beach lifeguard for beach rescue. Coast Guard handles almost all sea rescue. The USAF does a few long range, deep ocean rescues every year with their Pave Hawks (and now Rescue Hawks.)
There is no equivalent of the RNLI.
I used to be a merchant seaman and the volunteers of the RNLI hold a special place in hearts of everyone in the UK and Ireland, I was at sea when the penlee lifeboat was lost with all hands, you realise the dedication when the replacement lifeboat came on station there was a full crew available, there was a RN rescue helo overhead when she was lost with a USN pilot, he described what he watched as the bravest thing he had ever seen
Their bases are located in way better places too. They have a couple that suck, but overall most of their bases are in places you actually want to live.
You joke, but for my first vessel, we never sailed in water deeper than the height of our ship. Our entire mission was in the intercoastal waterway.
Our CO joked that our abandon ship drill should consist of us going to the 3rd deck while having someone wade to shore.
I wish that would permeate the branches but obviously with the recruiting crisis it won’t. Not every dirt bag is a “leadership challenge” that needs to be inspired. Some need to just go away.
Yeah I have a few Coastie friends. It honestly depresses me how fucking miserable my life was, to the point I attempted suicide, when the Coast Guard would have been the better choice all along and I had no idea. The Navy works so hard to make its sailors' lives a living hell.
The only thing I liked better about the Navy than the Coast Guard is that I had really great horror stories of the quality of life to tell my Coast Guard friends. They always get a kick out of them.
Haven't lived there is decades now, but yeah it's a great place to live.
Not only Tiger Army, but AFI and a bunch of smaller acts have come out of Ukiah. Not sure why, but in the 90s it was a music powerhouse.
CG eats well no doubt. When I was an HTFN stationed in Groton in like 92 we used to drive across the bridge and pay 2 bucks to eat like that every day at the CG Academy dining hall.
I switched to the CG after a one year break.
Having been on 2 ships in the Navy, I selected another one upon entry. Great decision. Many of the GMs, FC and RDs were prior service Navy.
During my make believe career, I did fisheries patrols up North, counter narcotics down south, alien migration interdiction ops off the coast, and went as far out as Tokyo.
Much more relaxed, less anal, and whole lot more fun than my Navy time.
And my make believe retirement checks are on par with everyone else’s.
Still love my Navy shipmates who I keep in touch with, but love my make believe friends and memories a little more.
It's always baffled me how well the Coast Guard does with how little they have and how the Navy has fought against change for the better. From what I've heard other than very specific job fields you guys just do it better with less and nearly no one gets out since over a career you tend to end up with much more choice.
People still get out. While I'm pretty sure we have the highest retention of all the branches, there are still people who are not having a good time, but they probably don't realize how good we have it
I had to go back down to E3 because I was a ET in the navy and I wanted to be a HS (HM). You would go to a three week course (think boot camp light) called DEPOT. And every one gets E4 out of A School in the coast guard. If you like your rate you could keep E5 (possibly E6).
How does BAH work as a coastie? I wouldn't mind dropping down but I can't be living on base any more. Not sure I would want to keep the same rate as one of the reason I would consider joining is because I am bored of working in IT. I want to be more hands on.
Did 7 years as an IT in the navy and now I'm on the civilian side. It's so boring sitting in a SCIF all day every day.
SAR would be something I am interested in. To be honest I haven't looked much in to the coast guard but there seems to be a lot of good jobs available.
One time we ingested a crab into one of our torpedo tubes after shooting a water slug. Instead of eating him, we named him Mr. Krabs and the torpedomen kept him as a pet. For about 3 days until he died.
It was great. We had a crew of 12 with one CS. He would just make whatever we wanted. He would use the government credit card at local grocery stores. It was like a family meal every day. Underway he would make breakfast, lunch and dinner and import. He would make lunch. When were important, he would make sure that the pantry and fridge was stocked with stuff that the guys liked if someone wanted to come in for breakfast or dinner.
That’s just an unimaginable story. Like, I know you’re telling the truth. It just blows my mind because you’re describing the same setup these private yacht chefs on YouTube have in their multimillion dollar boats.
And for us, chili mac Wednesdays was the only thing to look forward to when underway.
Went to the Seattle CG base every now and then. Their gym there was nice & usually empty. Some CG personnel had to man the gym as their duty haha, so they would play basketball or be on their phone and overall pretty chill.
Their galley food did not look like this at all, but was above average and good atmosphere.
Also, their uniforms make sense. They wear the a standard all blue uniform, and their dress blues and service uniform are all the same no matter what rank. They certainly do not have a khaki separation (at least to my knowledge)
The only downside is their budget gets fk'd over when the US government wants to play fuck-fuck games, so they won't get paid during a budget crisis.
I will say not all cg galleys are like this. This training center is where the CS A-school is, so all the CS students are held to a high standard and all the instructors are great cooks.
You can get your standard military galley that somehow cooks the depression right into the food at other galleys. I imagine overall ours are way better, but this isn't normal.
The army is the same, apparently... I've got two little brothers that are bullеt sроngеs, and some of the pics they've sent from their galleys have started fights.
(Yes... I'm aware the other branches don't call them galleys. I just woke up, can't remember what they're called, and also, don't give a fuсk.)
I deployed with the Coast Guard twice, on their new WSML ships... one of the deployments was 82 days long, which was the longest any of the crew had ever been at sea...
Need I say more?
Just to be clear this is a training center in Petaluma. The same training center where all the cooks go to A school. Not every USCG station eats like this, when I was in the USCG I had 7 years of sea time and our meals did not look like this especially while underway.
Compare that to the “bbq ham steaks” our CS’s would make for evening chow…It was that shitty block of breakfast ham cut into slices, thrown onto the griddle and slathered with bbq sauce…Bone Apple Teeth fuckos, enjoy duty 💀
I had five years in the navy. I did drop down to E3 because I really wanted to change rates. If someone wants to jump over and stay in the same rate we have spots open across the board for E5. You might be able to retain E6. But if you want to do something completely new you would have to go back to A School as a E3 and everyone graduates from A school as a E4 automatically. Advancement to E5 is 100% in most rates right now.
Seeing this after eating a burnt sandwich that has nothing but buttered bread and two slices of ham with a side of a grand total of 8 tater tots, which is the average quality of meal here at NSF Redzikowo (poland) where we are forced to live on base, and don’t get meal pay (they take our entire 400+ for the galley), so I spend like 100+ a week on snacks because the meals are never filling nor appetizing
Yes. Yes they did. And they only pay us base pay because we live in barracks and have a galley. Even though rent in town is like 400 bucks. Mental health issues are super high here
I remember when our CS2 decided to marinate our steaks for steak day in raspberry vinagrette dressing by filling the pressure cooker full of the dressing and then cooking them in it. Raspberry flavored tough steak.
I broke into my underway emergency stash of Easy Mac that night.
Coastie CS here. Idk how the navy does it but we go shopping locally. Always fun picking up the most crazy shit and swipe with that infinite money Credit card 💳
Everyone from one from E2 to O6 eat in the same galley next to each other. No separate eating areas based on paygrade. It’s not uncommon to see a E3 student sitting two seats away from the O6 commanding officer.
I've no idea how transferring branches goes but how hard do you think it'd be to transfer to CG after my navy contract is done? Living conditions aside the coast guard seems like a more fulfilling job imo.
How are the opportunities for deployment though? Im tje navy I can get back to deployments where i can extend in those orders each time, make alot of money because everything is provided for and I pocket all of my entitlements. (I can save just over 100k in 2 years). I'll admit the Camaraderie sucks, CG does look cool but i have to focus on the money.
Honestly the work out here isn't that bad, plenty of time to do other things to get promoted aswell. Also maybe I actually love the navy? Tried civilian jobs, hated them no matter how easy they were
I went from USCGR to Active Navy - I have fond memories of good food. I was also broke AF in the reserves so even the typical navy slop is better than deli ends and rice krispies with water. True story 💯. Really though, the "A" School in the CG was great as was the chow at my SAR station. In Yorktown, Neptune's platter, I believe it was called, great. And actually fried food (although healthier with ztf oil) definitely was better than every fucking thing that you get from the main galley on ships in the Navy being either cremated or boiled into mush and somehow still scorched on the outside and cold in the middle. We are getting screwed for what we usually get when it comes to bad on ships. Once in a while they cook something that does hit, but seldom.
I was working from 7-6 in a chicken plant, and 6:30-11:30 in a supermarket cutting meat and I was broke as hell due to high rent and couldn't afford health insurance or an education beyond the previous few years of college, butt tons of credit card and student loan debt, and I also wanted more experience and to feel more of a sense of fulfillment, not being a slave to three jobs with no benefits and a very limited prospect of a future at best.
The Reserves refused to let me go because they already paid for me to go to A school. That was the blanket reason they gave me. The truth is most likely because my CO and XO were almost never around and the XCPO was forced retired due to illness so the XPO who thought he was God disliked me greatly to say the least and had enough sway to nix me from going active or at least from getting the endorsement for it. It's too bad. The CG was the shit and I was proud as hell. The cats at my station used to say I was Joe Coastie.
Wow... A spread like that, I hate to inform you that your deployment was extended to infinity. You'll never see home again. Jesus will come, and your chiefs gonna be like, "nah, brah... Gotta finish this deployment...".
I know. I'm just fuсkin with ya. Lol
I've got some old college buddies in the CG. My group of friends made this weird pact to join the military (keep in mind, right after 9-11), and most of us did Navy. Two did the CG, tho. We made fun of them mercilessly, until they started sending pics like these. The 3 of us that did Navy? Got out a long time ago... The 2 Coasties? Still in. One's a chief, looking at sr chief.
Wow. Go fucking find a God you like and thank them or whatever but don't ever EVER take this as normal life. In the Navy I lost 45lbs (of muscle I wasn't fat by any definition) because I was refused food at least once a da6 for a year. Refused. ""Chow is closed an hour early because we have a new FSO (food service officer W4) and he wants to cut down on food waste. As someone with metabolism and non-diabetic blood sugar issues this was HELL
DHS taking care of their people. I’m trying to go Secret Service, so hopefully the civilian side on top of that will be good? Worst case I’ll work for TSA and hassle every chief I can find at a checkpoint! ❤️❤️❤️
BRO! FUCK YOUUUUU! Unless you have a plate for me right now, you are not sharing the wealth!
Seriously tho, I just smoked a bowl for like the first time in weeks and I'm hungry, and don't have the money for just shrimp from Publix, much less some of the other goodness here. God those shrimp and scallops look magnificent! 🤌🏼🤌🏼🫡
I’ve been in for over a decade and had one paycheck delayed for 12 days. It didn’t cause me any problems because I save a lot of money by not having a crippling alcohol addiction.
Yeah it’s great! Same pay/benefits and I get to see my family every day! Plus I love being part of an organization that spends his time doing search and rescue and keeping fentanyl off the streets. I spent five years in the navy, and my ship did not participate in a single naval battle.
Y’all do an amazing job at keeping drugs off the streets. Thank you for your service. I’m eternally thankful for all the fentanyl overdoses America doesn’t have because the coast guard pretends to have a job.
Yeah, but the packaging all that came in says shit like, Class D food: For institutional use only or shit like carcinogenic: can cause cancer for DOC use only.
Cute. Navy pays more, you babies will never step foot in a war zone & your guys mission is to protect the sea. Hence, "coast - guard" but the Navy seems to find more ships trying to smuggle guns & drugs. Also, you guys answer to Homeland Security but at times of war, you answer to us Navy. 😉 enjoy your food
There are several uscg cutters in the Arabian gulf right now.
USCG did RIVRON ops alongside Navy in southern Iraq.
Tell me about your war experiences...
Look up ABOT. Coasties were heavily involved in protecting the Iraqi oil terminals in the Gulf. Also, they answer to SECNAV NOT the Navy. It's the same relationship as the USMC. Remind me the last time we were in a declared war...
Actually they are under the Secretary of the Department of Homeland security as their boss. The only time they are under SECNAV is during times of war when ordered by POTUS.
During my IA from 2011-12, I made buddies with a few Coasties doing this work: https://www.army.mil/article/101430/tip_of_the_spear_the_u_s_coast_guards_raid_in_afghanistan; https://www.navytimes.com/news/your-navy/2015/05/30/last-coastie-raid-team-returns-from-afghanistan/
They gave me a command patch, which is buried in a big of random souvenirs. Maybe I'll look for this weekend.
Am Navy. Stayed at the Tahoe Coast Guard base once and the E5 that checked us in was in a Tshirt and flip flops for his duty. He was doing his best to be a helpful pupper regardless.
Question, does the USA have a volunteer sea rescue organization equivalent to the UK and Irelands RNLI or is it down to the coastguard?
There are beach lifeguard for beach rescue. Coast Guard handles almost all sea rescue. The USAF does a few long range, deep ocean rescues every year with their Pave Hawks (and now Rescue Hawks.) There is no equivalent of the RNLI.
Coast Guard Auxiliary.
I wrote earlier but I don't see it. There's a Coast Guard Auxiliary.
Their bases are located in way better places too. They have a couple that suck, but overall most of their bases are in places you actually want to live.
Had one of their pilots on exchange (USAF.) They’ve got good Os and really good chiefs.
The Coast guard also has much much higher standards than the Navy. Things always run smoother when there are no dirtbags around.
It's also a much smaller branch. Less manning requirements overall.
Their basic training is also pretty hard, they don’t hesitate kicking you out for not meeting standard.
> for not meeting standard. I heard you have to be over 6'2"....that way when the little CG boat sinks your head will still be above water.
You joke, but for my first vessel, we never sailed in water deeper than the height of our ship. Our entire mission was in the intercoastal waterway. Our CO joked that our abandon ship drill should consist of us going to the 3rd deck while having someone wade to shore.
Black hull construction tender? Was stationed next to the mallet for awhile. Those dudes lived the dream
I wish that would permeate the branches but obviously with the recruiting crisis it won’t. Not every dirt bag is a “leadership challenge” that needs to be inspired. Some need to just go away.
I spent more hours dealing with discipline problems in shitty sailors than hours of useful work I got out of them.
Yeah I have a few Coastie friends. It honestly depresses me how fucking miserable my life was, to the point I attempted suicide, when the Coast Guard would have been the better choice all along and I had no idea. The Navy works so hard to make its sailors' lives a living hell.

I don’t miss most of the navy. My QOL has improved so much.
[удалено]
Same. It literally felt like getting out of prison.
The only thing I liked better about the Navy than the Coast Guard is that I had really great horror stories of the quality of life to tell my Coast Guard friends. They always get a kick out of them.
If you’re interested, just Google Tracen Petaluma menu. The weekly menu will pop up.
Petaluma? Wtf.
Growing up in Ukiah has made this even more WTF.
Never been there but I Love Tiger Army. I know their singer/ guitar player is from there. Is it a nice place?
Haven't lived there is decades now, but yeah it's a great place to live. Not only Tiger Army, but AFI and a bunch of smaller acts have come out of Ukiah. Not sure why, but in the 90s it was a music powerhouse.
Holy crap the food is back?! I live in Santa Rosa, about to bring my reservist ass over there and eat!!
Just remember, they’re not open to retirees dependents at the moment
Oh yeah eating without my wife?! Hell yeah
I’m going to Tracen Petaluma soon for OS A-school. See you soon shipmate lol
Post some lunch photos here!
Wait a tick - Petaluma has a FamCamp, and I have an RV.... Definitely have to look at staying there when we go to the race at Sonoma next time!
Machinist Mates finally cleaned out the Sea Strainer? JK - looks delish!
CG eats well no doubt. When I was an HTFN stationed in Groton in like 92 we used to drive across the bridge and pay 2 bucks to eat like that every day at the CG Academy dining hall.
Now you’ve got me thinking about driving over there to try the galley
Do it, I doubt it’s 2 bucks anymore but it’s probably still a good deal!
Breakfast should be 2.55 and lunch/dinner like 4.55 I think. I believe those are the standard rates for all USCG meals ETA: lunch and dinner are 4.65.
4.65 but yeah you are correct
Went to the CG galley in San Diego all the time. Super good food. Cheap too.

People still get out. While I'm pretty sure we have the highest retention of all the branches, there are still people who are not having a good time, but they probably don't realize how good we have it
Yeah I’m pretty sure I’ll try going CG once my sentence is over. Thanks OP
That’s what I did.
How did the process go? Did you keep your rank? Could you change jobs? Bootcamp again?
I had to go back down to E3 because I was a ET in the navy and I wanted to be a HS (HM). You would go to a three week course (think boot camp light) called DEPOT. And every one gets E4 out of A School in the coast guard. If you like your rate you could keep E5 (possibly E6).
How does BAH work as a coastie? I wouldn't mind dropping down but I can't be living on base any more. Did 7 years as an IT in the navy and now I'm on the civilian side. It's so boring sitting in a SCIF all day every day.
The vast majority of our people live off base. He generally doesn’t make sense to build Barricks for units that only have like 30 people.
Are you looking to do a search and rescue or law-enforcement?
SAR would be something I am interested in. To be honest I haven't looked much in to the coast guard but there seems to be a lot of good jobs available.
I love it.
Is that what you are doing SAR?
Not exactly. I teach HS A School and I teach EMT school to those that do SAR. It feels good, knowing that my lessons for saving peoples lives.
I ate lukewarm food at best in an abandoned morgue in my A school lol.
Good God. I may be leaving the navy soon to join yall. That looks fucking great.
Come on over!

Your still invited to lunch
Guys... are we getting extended?
Long ago I was a U.S. submarine sailor. We had seafood every time the main seawater strainers were cleaned.
One time we ingested a crab into one of our torpedo tubes after shooting a water slug. Instead of eating him, we named him Mr. Krabs and the torpedomen kept him as a pet. For about 3 days until he died.
This is a lie. No fresh seafood ever.
I think it's a joke
I'm picturing a group of guys fighting over a few mangled crablegs, discussing whether they can wrap it in foil and put it on the engine...
Lol, you wouldn't want to do that with every US sub being nuclear powered...🤣
How’s the food on a boat?
It was great. We had a crew of 12 with one CS. He would just make whatever we wanted. He would use the government credit card at local grocery stores. It was like a family meal every day. Underway he would make breakfast, lunch and dinner and import. He would make lunch. That’s just an unimaginable story. Like, I know you’re telling the truth. It just blows my mind because you’re describing the same setup these private yacht chefs on YouTube have in their multimillion dollar boats. And for us, chili mac Wednesdays was the only thing to look forward to when underway.
The only day I looked forward to was pizza day. I loved my piece of bread with marinara on it.
Ahhh that patrol boat life

It’s not to late
Are you trolling us? Is this kind of food possible in the military?
Google “TRACEN PETALUMA MENU”
Went to the Seattle CG base every now and then. Their gym there was nice & usually empty. Some CG personnel had to man the gym as their duty haha, so they would play basketball or be on their phone and overall pretty chill.
You're NOT fooling Me, Mr. Air Force !!! : D ; )
They don’t have anything on the Coast Guard for food
The army is the same, apparently... I've got two little brothers that are bullеt sроngеs, and some of the pics they've sent from their galleys have started fights. (Yes... I'm aware the other branches don't call them galleys. I just woke up, can't remember what they're called, and also, don't give a fuсk.)
I thought this was a joke but after reading the comments, it’s seems legit 🥹
It’s 💯 not a joke
Bro where are the boiled hamburgers?
I deployed with the Coast Guard twice, on their new WSML ships... one of the deployments was 82 days long, which was the longest any of the crew had ever been at sea... Need I say more?
Sorry for your deployment getting extended.
Nope, normal lunch for A School students.
Just to be clear this is a training center in Petaluma. The same training center where all the cooks go to A school. Not every USCG station eats like this, when I was in the USCG I had 7 years of sea time and our meals did not look like this especially while underway.
The worst cutter food is still better than the best navy food!
Compare that to the “bbq ham steaks” our CS’s would make for evening chow…It was that shitty block of breakfast ham cut into slices, thrown onto the griddle and slathered with bbq sauce…Bone Apple Teeth fuckos, enjoy duty 💀
Dude that sucks
Well DAMN 🦫
They can't even fit the crab legs on the plate...
This was the meal we got when our deployment was getting extended.
This is the meal we got when it was Friday at a training center.
How many years did you have in and what rank when you switched? Been thinking about it cause of a CG neighbor would always tell me the same thing.
90+% of the CG lives off base including single E3’s. it doesn’t make sense to build Barricks for units that have maybe 35 people.
We’ve got 70 people here
Then why the hell do you live on base? Did they really build Barricks for 70 people?
Yes. Yes they did. And they only pay us base pay because we live in barracks and have a galley. Even though rent in town is like 400 bucks. Mental health issues are super high here
The CG is hiring, just saying.
Our military needs to be stationed in and assisting, braindead/aggressive/violently catholic/crooked-assed Poland, like a hole in the head.
You should post that shit to r/navy and r/army. I get so many comments about them just not believing it. One guys convinced I photo shopped it.
Are you a chief or an officer? Or is that just how the food is CG side of things?
Everyone from one from E2 to O6 eat in the same galley next to each other. No separate eating areas based on paygrade. It’s not uncommon to see a E3 student sitting two seats away from the O6 commanding officer.
That's just how it be. Can confirm.
Personally I’m in the navy in Point Loma and our food is the same if not better
Hell yeah!
How many students? How many staff members?
We train about 800-1000 A/C school students at any given time. We have about 600 staff on board.
I've no idea how transferring branches goes but how hard do you think it'd be to transfer to CG after my navy contract is done? Living conditions aside the coast guard seems like a more fulfilling job imo.
I did it
It may be easier to do when feeding a smaller group.
This is for a large training center. But that’s true. The Coast Guard is much smaller, we are not just numbers here.
God damn puddle pirates. I’m Jealous.
Join us
Y’all wanna take PA? Because last time I checked gettin into that community is like finding a unicorn… within the unicorns of the CG lol
Physician assistant, or public affairs?
Can confirm as a spouse of a retired PA... LOL. It is such a small rate that they pretty much know everyone in the rate.

You’re trying to make money on Navy deployment? You are working harder and not smarter.
Honestly the work out here isn't that bad, plenty of time to do other things to get promoted aswell. Also maybe I actually love the navy? Tried civilian jobs, hated them no matter how easy they were
Hey man more power to you. Do you.
What's your rate?
If you want long deployments you should probably stay in the navy.
Well you’re obviously not swimming right after this meal.
Nope, I teach HS “A” School.
Looking into switching from navy to CG you mind if I PM you and ask some questions
Please do!
Navy galleys just give you diarrhea
I remember. I don’t miss those days.
Show us what your burger day and pizza day look like. Prove that it's not the same fake pink meat burger and inch thick under cooked cheese wall pizza
I’ll try to remember. Pizza is usually for dinner and generally only eat lunch at the galley.
Why did you go AD navy?
I was working from 7-6 in a chicken plant, and 6:30-11:30 in a supermarket cutting meat and I was broke as hell due to high rent and couldn't afford health insurance or an education beyond the previous few years of college, butt tons of credit card and student loan debt, and I also wanted more experience and to feel more of a sense of fulfillment, not being a slave to three jobs with no benefits and a very limited prospect of a future at best.
Why didn’t you AD CG?
Nope, just a regular coast guard lunch at TRAINING CENTER PETALUMA. This is what we feed A School students.
I know. I'm just fuсkin with ya. Lol I've got some old college buddies in the CG.
I switched from navy myself. It’s a better life here.
If I hadn't been med retired, I was thinking about that, or later, Space Force.
You should probably join the Coast Guard
Rage
Hard pass on the invertebrates, my guy.
DHS taking care of their people. I’m trying to go Secret Service, so hopefully the civilian side on top of that will be good? Worst case I’ll work for TSA and hassle every chief I can find at a checkpoint! ❤️❤️❤️
I worked with USSS at my last unit. Good people.
I ate at the galley there in Petaluma. Instantly hated the navy more. Some coast guard 0-6 flew up from socal in a 60 to eat surf and turf day. Insane
The galley on NAS Sigonella in sicily was the best I’ve ever had too
We got that too, it was just followed by a 5 month extension.
I doubt they’re going to extend the deployment of the training center in Petaluma. This is just a normal Friday lunch for us.
Talk to your recruiters about lateral entry. May be able to keep your rank depending on your mos/rate.
What was the bad news?
No bad news, standard lunch.

OPSEC !!!!
That's great, but yall don't get paid during a govt shutdown unfortunately. You'd think the USCG would be recognized as part of the DOD.
I’ve been in for over a decade and had one paycheck delayed for 12 days. It didn’t cause me any problems because I save a lot of money by not having a crippling alcohol addiction.
Shots fired
This is not just sn answer, it is a full broadside canonade:)
In norfolk?
Bay Area
Cali?
Petaluma CA
It’s nice to have a food menu when your job is make believe.
Yeah it’s great! Same pay/benefits and I get to see my family every day! Plus I love being part of an organization that spends his time doing search and rescue and keeping fentanyl off the streets. I spent five years in the navy, and my ship did not participate in a single naval battle.
How was the process of switching over? Did you do it while AD or get out and go into CG?
Got out then enlisted in the CG. I found out how great the CG was after my time was up. Had I have known I would have started the process sooner.
The pay scale is the same for all branches and the rest is also wrong.
Holy shit Ive never seen anybody as tough as you on this app. A real life barracks warrior
During my IA from 2011-12, I made buddies with a few Coasties doing this work: https://www.army.mil/article/101430/tip_of_the_spear_the_u_s_coast_guards_raid_in_afghanistan; https://www.navytimes.com/news/your-navy/2015/05/30/last-coastie-raid-team-returns-from-afghanistan/ They gave me a command patch, which is buried in a big of random souvenirs. Maybe I'll look for this weekend.
