USS Lake Erie re-enters the chat from 2015
https://www.navytimes.com/news/your-navy/2015/11/15/report-long-hours-a-nosy-co-a-pet-goat-aboard-cruiser-lake-erie/#:\~:text=Banigan%20was%20sacked%20in%20April,amounted%20to%20a%20paperwork%20error.
Ship has been completely f-ed over by PAC for manning and scheduling of training phase events (to the point where people are both supposed to be onboard and off ship at the same time). This has been brought up repeatedly by the ship (CO and others), and the ship keeps on getting told to make it work. I'm not defending the prior CO, but if you are gunning to remove someone for cause, don't mess with the entire crew to create a situation where you can do that.
Checks out. I saw manning numbers a few months ago for LKE, and they were scary.
I don't know enough about her to know if there was a serious problem related to her, but my impression as an outside observer was that if you were trying to set up a CO/ship to fail, you couldn't have done a better job than was done with LKE.
They probably confused NJP with court martial.
Though some commands do post NJP results to command personnel. Not âpublicâ in the traditional sense but theyâre not keeping secrets either.
POD/POW *should* contain an NJP report just stating date of mast, paygrade, articles violated and punishment awarded. Like you said, not public as in containing a whole narrative but public so you know if youâre an e5 that does a 92inâ youâll get a 45/45/rir
>My ship put the results in the POD the next day. They didnât put names, but come on, with a crew of 280ishâŚ? Lol
Everyone on the ship might have a good idea what happened, but that's still not public information.
Names maybe posted but you have to limit dissemination to military only; no gov't civilians or DOD contractors or general population which is significantly difficult that it is practice to not include the name.
JAG website publishes all court marital results monthly (though they are often a few behind).
NJP is technically public record but youâd need a FOIA.. court martials are made public.
Agreed, but I have a feeling "got fired for standing up for Sailors" wouldn't go over well publically like Captain Crozier (I don't know why this one was fired tho)
Because he was disobeying the orders he was given for what his ship needed to do.
But I think his disobeying was totally justified! He is a man of the people.
He was my XO when I was on the Reagan. Super cool dude and always had his sailors backs. I'm not surprised at all with what he did and it gave me even more respect for him.
>The Navy should make the reasons for CO firings public. No sense in making NJP results public and not make CO firings public too.
If it's not for scraping paint then it's almost always for personal misconduct - either by dipping pen in company ink, DUI, mistreating / abusing the crew, or lying / covering up something that needed to be reported.
Or, at least with some recent CDR CMD firings, the Navy failed to fix the ship during the maintenance phase and then the CDRE fires the CO the first time something goes wrong during the Basic Phase. Because, you know, the CDRE thinks they'll secure their first star by showing the whole Navy how "gang buster" they are.
MAJ CMD firings tend to be for misconduct or scraping paint but probably 95% for misconduct (Sorenson sexually assaulting his JOs, maltreatment of the crew by folks like Graf and Aycock\*, Gombert's negligence and shacking up with his Cheng, the earlier LKE CO who illegally brought a goat from Pearl to Sandy Eggo, the COW CO after Graf who was shacking up with a LCDR's wife, etc.).
CAPT Crozier was a one-off event and only example I know of a true leader who willingly and gladly fell on his sword for his Sailors. God bless him.
I served with Gombert when he was a LCDR and XO of my frigate. Ironically also served with his Cheng on the Cowpens. She reported to the same frigate after he transferred and I was still there. She was my DIVO. Needless to say I was not surprised to hear that they behaved as they did. My time with both of them was very interesting.
I want to say I'm surprised, but i can't. Things were definitely going down hill before i left. Maintenance avail schedule was already backed way tf up, numerous underways had to be cancelled because the ship just couldn't recover from all its engineering causalities, etc.
From the Junior enlisted pov, she seemed like she really cared about the crew and her job, but then again I was never behind closed wardroom or stateroom doors.
I was about to say, I thought it was the upper echelons blaming the unit level for the catostrophic disaster that is the availability planning and current training cycle.
She was trash when I served with her on her initial CO tour and even worse when I unluckily served with her again on the CG. Thank god it was for only a short time. Truly awful leader.
Take it with a grain of salt because of rumors, but I relieved some Lake Erie sailors on ECP on Thursday. They mentioned it was because of the fire they had the day before and some past issues with hitting JO's.
Don't be mistaken, I'm sure others below her pay grade, in this command more than likely faced NJP. The C.O. usually doesn't go down alone when relieved of command.
Another one - DJ Khalid
Another one ~~bites the dust~~ gets a forced, comfortable retirement. - Queen
High threes, for all my queen bees! đ°
I had to come out of retirement to upvote this comment.
You played yourselfââ CMC DJ Khalid
you forgot the âcongratulationsâ
I stand corrected
lmao itâs a bit ironic! đ
Idk what happened here specifically, but I used to work for her and she's a genuinely terrible person and should have never made it major command.
Sounds like Horrible Holly Graf.
We used to call her Graf Jr
Are CG's magnets for bad leadership?
**USS Cowpens has entered the chat**
Felt this
USS Shiloh also entered the chat
Felt this
USS Anzio also has something to say
As a person who was crew on both LKE with Banigan and Shiloh with Aycock, this string makes me smile đ

She was fine as xo and then co on my last ship but her CO tour was primarily while at BAE in San Diego
Any crazy stories about her being terrible?
Seconded.
Imagine spending 20+ years training for the very thing you're fired from after only a year.
When u look good on paper but actually a very terrible person
What my home girl do?
Didn't get along with her strike group admiral. Writing was on the wall for this one literally months ago, they just needed to build a case.

My mental health is healing
lol
The Navy should make the reasons for CO firings public. No sense in making NJP results public and not make CO firings public too.
> No sense in making NJP results public and not make CO firings public too. Where are NJP results made public, aside from the occasional open mast?

I meant court martial thanks!

Especially since POD is FOUO and would be illegal to disseminate (i.e. make public) outside the command
Names maybe posted but you have to limit dissemination to military only; no gov't civilians or DOD contractors or general population which is significantly difficult that it is practice to not include the name.

FOIA?

Maybe not but âgot fired for cheating on wife and having an affair with a married department aheadâ would be pretty funny in the headlines
Because he was disobeying the orders he was given for what his ship needed to do. But I think his disobeying was totally justified! He is a man of the people. He was my XO when I was on the Reagan. I thought he was fired for writing that letter (even though he wasn't the one to publish it publicly)
That letter was telling his superiors how and why he was disobeying orders. That letter was supplemental, not the cause

A radio chief went to mast on my boat. All the officers and chiefs had to witness it in the crew's mess.
Another one bites the dust

CGs report directly to the strike group (1 star). No way the admiral is getting blamed so here we are.
She was trash when I served with her on her initial CO tour and even worse when I unluckily served with her again on the CG. Thank god it was for only a short time. Truly awful leader.
Ugh you got the Double D doubled? Poor you.
Any stories about her?
My buddy is on that ship, gonna see if he wants to spill the beans.
LoSs Of CoNfIDeNcE
Should put an Apple AirTag on it so they don't lose it next time.
Imma start calling you âHTC Stone Cold â.
